"Around since 1992, this fine-dining stalwart in Bethesda specializes in North Indian cuisine. Minced lamb kebabs barbecued in its clay oven are a good way to start, and a long list of mains cover all sorts of lamb, chicken, vegetarian, seafood, and tandoori entrees. Basmati rice with notes of saffron and black wild cardamom accompanies each dish. A Friday-to-Sunday lunch buffet is a good way to sample a cross-section of the menu." - Tierney Plumb

Food was nothing special. Quanities were great for the prices! This place has average food, but they make up with the quantity. This restaurant is a bit pricey, especially the non-veg. I ordered the palak paneer with naan for takeout. The naan was a bit thick and undercooked, not a big problem. Since I do not like eating undercooked dough, I had to warm it up a little bit at home. The panner was nothing special either, it had a great texture but lacked salt. So- I had to add in some of my own salt as a result. Will not be ordering the same dishes. Might try something new. Overall, not impressed.

Google
Lunch buffet was great, though there were only like 10ish options, the quality of the food was great, at $21/pp. We especially enjoyed the rice and the dal. Lamb was done well too! We would come back again.

Google
We tried this restaurant for the first time and it is the best around the bethesda downtown location. The food portion and the service is good. The Gobi Manchurian was delicious and the chicken kadhai was OK. The goat biryani and malai Kofta was good as well. The Mango Lassi was awesome too. We would definitely try more options in the future.

Google
Very tasty and authentic food. A delight. I asked for some changes to my malai chicken which were done perfectly. The portions are great. You will never leave hungry!

Now I have been to a lot off Indian restaurants but this happened to be the worst one I have tried. The food looks good but taste awful. The paneer that I ordered tasted as if the sauce was already made and they just threw in the paneer and served it, the rice was burnt, the vegetable breyani was cooked but the vegetables was still hard as if it wasn’t cooked at all, the dhall which suppose to be soft it was hard and seemed uncooked and the paratha would have been great if it was made with white flour instead of whole-wheat. It is my opinion on the restaurant and my experience based on the day that I went to eat there. I will not be returning to this restaurant again.

Google
Kadhai has the BEST Indian food in Bethesda! Great sized portions, delicious food, and super friendly staff. We love coming here and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic, reasonably priced meal!

Google
The food was absolutely incredible. I ordered everything for Takeout and it still blew me away. Every dish was bursting with flavor and the portion sizes were incredibly generous. I ordered the butter chicken and it was the best I've ever had in DC. The creamy, rich sauce was perfectly balanced with the tender chicken. For appetizer I had the Chicken Tika and it was very tender and flavorful over sautéed onions. The garlic naan was also outstanding - crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and packed with garlic flavor. The mint chutney was a refreshing accompaniment to the entire meal. I can't wait to return and try more of their delicious menu!

Google
Our favourite Indian takeout spot! Consistent for years and, contrary to other reviews, the staff is always very polite to us! Would definitely recommend.

Dani R.

Yelp
We love this restaurant, it's one of our favorites. The food is flavorful and delicious every time. Khadai is one of the best Indian restaurants in the area. Every dish we've tried has been very tasty.

Myra M.

Yelp
We love love love Kadhai! It offers the usual Indian cuisine selections but they do it very well. The mullitagawny is rich and delicious, samosas are filled with perfectly seasoned and cooked potatoes and the palak chaat is good although not quite at Rasika level. Chicken korma and butter chicken are always prepared well, with tender chunks of chicken breast. Aloo gobi and saag paneer are good complements to the entrees which are served with basmati rice. Don't forget to order their breads and mango chutney and ask for tamarind and cilantro sauce! Service is friendly and prompt!

Yelp
My family and I were in downtown Bethesda and stumbled upon this place and decided to go for dinner. We had an absolutely lovely experience. We went around 6ish on a Friday and were immediately seated. The service was above and beyond - our server was so attentive and kind. We loved all of the dishes that we got! We tried the garlic naan (of course), korma chicken, chicken tikka masala, the appetizer sampler (which I highly recommend - it has beef kabob, samosas, and chicken and all were perfect samplers), and goat curry of some kind. I also tried the mango lassi and I loved it. Would definitely return for solid Indian food in the downtown Bethesda area!

Christine Y.

Yelp
Never mind! The flavor is back. Think it was just a one off day... I fully recommend kadhai and all their dishes-from mataar paneer to lamb korma, everything is on point!

Nikita J.

Yelp
Pretty good, classic North Indian restaurant menu. This is all about comforting familiar classics no fusion or trendy things here, and there's nothing wrong with that! We were in the mood for something traditional so it worked perfectly for us. A heads up that they have a bar but no cocktail menu. Palak chaat was pretty good. they get the mix of flavors down right and the palak is crispy. This appetizer is light which is nice considering how heavy North Indian food can be. For me, Veg korma is a classic "if you can't do this right what are you doing" dish I pick when I first try an Indian restaurant. Love that it's truly full of veggies. And they aren't cooked to death. Sauce is creamy but you do get the tang that tells you it is yogurt based. They passed, but barely. The sauce definitely needs more flavor (not just heat -- more flavorful spices). My husband really loved the sauce in his hariyali chicken. You get Plenty of chicken but it may be a bit mild if you are used to Indian food like we are. That's easily remedied, though. The other spices are just right. Garlic naan was not great, more crunchy than soft and some garlic was burnt so that was disappointing. Service was fast (maybe a bit too fast?) but no complaints in that department. If you want the traditional North Indian restaurant spread this is a pretty good option in the area.

Dinh N.

Yelp
The Rogan Josh was great! The sauce is very creamy and rich and very different than what I'm used to but it was delicious. The masala was also good and just what you would expect.

Barbara K.

Yelp
Four of us came for dinner a week ago. Service was good and obviously a popular place for takeout. We ordered 4 entrees (portions are generous so we didn't try any of the appetizers). We had lamb vindaloo, chicken vindaloo, Rogan Josh, and Tandoori Chicken. The vindaloos got high marks for both chicken & lamb. The Rogan Josh was also tasty. Tandoori chicken was very dry and flavorless. Lots of other options for Indian food

Nicole D.

Yelp
Kadhai is the best Indian Restaurant in Bethesda, MD. Our waiter, Padam, exceeds five star for his incredible service. He alone makes this dining experience amazing. The food is fresh and the spice levels are done to perfection! I highly recommend this restaurant if you love high quality Indian food!

Nil K.

Yelp
We visited Kadhai restaurant friday night for dinner. The food quality and taste was decent, the portions were good sized, and the service was commendably fast. While the food was okay overall, the veg items surpassed the non-veg ones in terms of taste. The experience was enhanced by attentive service.

Lauren K.

Yelp
Expensive but worth it. The staff are lovely and the food was absolutely fantastic. Everything was made fresh!

Paul F.

Yelp
Best Indian Food in the DMV. Place is always packed, and deservedly so, especially for vegetarians. Their Saag Paneer is simply Michelin worthy. Shrimp Masala - also outstanding.

Marcela F.

Yelp
The food is very good! Service was amazing !! Our server was very efficient and nice. Definitely will be coming back. The ambience was perfect !

Paloma K.

Yelp
Just ate a quick dinner for one on a recent business trip. I had ordered take out a few months ago, and had time to dine in this time. Always awkward to be a one-top, but the waiter was kind and attentive. Other diners were welcomed like they were family and the atmosphere was just what I needed for a quiet night. I have celiac, and the waiter was able to clarify that there was no gluten or wheat in any of my selection, and I had no issues with cross contamination. Recommend the carrot pudding!

Jannie B.

Yelp
I ordered the Chicken Makhani - the plus side is the portion was huge! So much left over! Loved the creaminess of the curry however it could have used more pepper and spices to balance out the sweetness of the curry. The coconut rice was nice

Ryan K.

Yelp
Excellent Indian food. We visit Kadhai on a Wednesday afternoon, and the restaurant was nearly empty. Ostensibly culturally appropriate music played over the speakers for the duration of our visit, and the restaurant is decorated with sumptuous red velvet. We split a variety of dishes, but I specifically tried the saag paneer, daal tadka, baingan bharta, and garlic naan. The saag paneer was as good as any other Indian restaurant. The daal tadka was mild but still had a pleasant richness to it. The baingan bharta was a delicious blend of sweet and savory flavors with the perfect amount of spice. The garlic naan had a strong garlic flavor and was prepared as well as any other naan that I have tried. Overall, I left Kadhai satisfied and would recommend them for Indian cuisine in Bethesda.

Yelp
I've been going to this Indian restaurant for years, even before it changed names. The quality has always good and I've never had anything on the menu I didn't like. They are also quick to prepare your order and friendly both for in restaurant dining and carry out.

Amit N.

Yelp
I regret to say that I was disappointed with the quality of some of the dishes at the restaurant for the price tag . Instead of the richer, more flavorful preparation that was anticipated, the kadai paneer lacked the dish's typical qualities and appeared to be paneer in a simple gravy with raw tomatoes and onions. In the same way, the dal Makhani was flavorless and lacked the typical intensity of spice. It was more akin to cream added to cooked lentils. The lacha paratha was also undercooked. I contacted the restaurant regarding these concerns, and I felt like I was getting a cold shoulder. I wanted to give my honest opinion in the hopes that it might be useful, even though I am aware that taste can vary widely.

Estie T.

Yelp
Nice Indian spot in downtown Bethesda. The waiters were really accommodating and kind, we were seated quickly and didn't wait very long for the food to show up. I got the butter chicken, my friend got vindaloo chicken. Both were good, although the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. We also had the samosas and naan, which we enjoyed.

Michael D.

Yelp
Amazing Indian food probably the best i have ever tried. The service is really fast and super friendly my waiter was so nice refilling my water asking if im ok. The overall place looks very nice inside too and i loved the indian music playing. I really would love to come back and try all there dishes it was so tasty! I highly recommend. I am sad that i am from California and won't be back for awhile.. as soon as im back in bethesda i am going to Kadhai baby!!! Yummm!!!

K J.

Yelp
This is Indian food in general terms, but the flavor has been altered greatly to please a different audience. The vegetable biryani was really oily and lacked subtle flavors that typify biryani. The butter chicken was literally sweet. Almost candied yam sweet. There is a wide variety of good Indian food in the DC area. This restaurant must cater to those that like their watered down and sweet version of Indian food. The service was great. Ambiance is nice. Good tableware make it feel pleasant to eat there. If only the food matched...

Leah C.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant with some friends yesterday. The restaurant was clean, the staff was attentive, and there were many options on the menu. Our server went above and beyond, offering suggestions and catering our meal to the number of people in our party despite the number of items per menu item (i.e. we got Samosas for 5, although I think it's a 2 count per order). He also provided extra rice as we were packing our meals up, so we had some to take home. I had the butter chicken and it was great, although I wish it had more of an herbal flavor. It may just be personal preference. I would say pricing is slightly above average. All in all a solid spot, I will be returning to try different menu items.

Nikki M.

Yelp
What a great gem! We were in town for a Couple of days and felt like Indian food and this was a great spot. The staff was super friendly, the food was delicious and came right away. We devoured it all! The Goa shrimp curry was Divine and the mango kulfi did not disappoint t!

Alessandra D.

Yelp
An incredible Indian restaurant! Only have ordered takeout twice but both times have been phenomenal. We love the Butter Chicken, the sauce is so creamy and chicken is tender. Other favorites include the Chicken Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobi. The naan is a must get- ITS HUGE and fluffy. And definitely start out with a samosa!

Chiara S.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable Indian food restaurant in Bethesda! I got the chains masala and some mango chicken with some veggies on the side. The plate also came with a side of jasmine rice. The staff was very friendly and the environment was cozy.

Maya W.

Yelp
Just incredible. Everything was perfect. From the food, to the service, to the atmosphere I could not have asked for more.

Daniel R.

Yelp
Great food and excellent services. Food was fresh and have the original Indian flavor food.

Daniel B.

Yelp
I love Indian food and had high expectations! Kadhai Boutique did not disappoint at all! This is a great place for date night, a family meal or even a corporate luncheon. It is located in a busy section of down town Bethesda, but there are plenty of places to park including a garage nearby. The menu is very impressive with a lot of my favorite selections. They also have a pretty good wine list and a semi full bar if you prefer an adult beverage. I had the Pinot Noir which paired perfectly with my entree. I had a tough time choosing what to eat because everything looked sounded so good. I had an order of garlic Naan and went with the tried and true Chicken Tikka Masala! Kadhai's CTM is definitely tied for 1st with another place I recently reviewed! The chicken was tender and the sauce was excellent! And the Tamarind sauce... Wow! It really took the meal to a whole-nother-level! I didn't have room for dessert due to the generous portions of my entree. I'm certain I'll be back to try the Lamb Vindaloo next time. I have a feeling it's going to be great!

Casey K.

Yelp
Bro! Stop! Didn't need to be that good! This was like cocaine for my taste-buds. Got all the favorites and the servers are friendly. My family ate outside on tables adjacent to the sidewalk, so I was hoping no giant dog would knock over my samosas.

C. G.

Yelp
Another exquisite meal from Kadhai! We ordered Baingan Bharta, Bhindi Masala and Daal Tadka. Our food was perfectly cooked with deliciously balanced spices. The basmati rice was SO fragrant & fluffy (not oily like many other restaurants). Food is not spicy unless requested. Our special requests/extras we're graciously honored. Best Indian food in the DMV! Many kind thanks Mr. K and Chef M!!!

Eric G.

Yelp
The service was superb just like 2019, the last time I was there. The food was especially delicious. I had the fried cauliflower and Goat Curry. The ambiance was immaculate. Very tidy and a little formal but comfortable.

Jill K.

Yelp
We have been eating from here for years. The only place we go in bethesda for Indian. Delicious food. Great service. Easy take out.

Skay L.

Yelp
One of the most delicious Indian meals of my entire life. The crispy spinach was unforgettable.

Emma J.

Yelp
ALL TIME FAVORITE! Get the panjabi lamb sooo good, we go back here at least every 2 to 3 weeks and get two entrées and an extra side of rice and it last us for 6 meals. The leftovers are even better somehow. The rice is also fantastic.

Cheryl T.

Yelp
Friday night take out. The place is packed as usual. Understandable for such good food. Ordered and was told 20 minutes, 45 mins later was the actual wait time. There was disorganized chaos. Staff overwhelmed and rushing, focused. Yet the food is always excellent. Standards we enjoy: naan, samosa, palak chat, dal makhani, eggplant purée (bb), saag paneer, tandoori salmon, shrimp masala. So yummy. Makes several dinner meals for my family of 3.

Kelly P.

Yelp
I recently got takeout from Kadhai. They're quite vegetarian and vegan friendly and their portions are HUGE. My husband and I ate for days on our takeout order. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. We got the Daal, Aloo Paneer (this was my favorite), the Baigan bartha and the vegetarian samosas, and they all just tasted under seasoned. They lacked the punch of flavor that I go to Indian restaurants for! There are simply better Indian options in MoCo, and I probably won't return to this one.

Gerard A.

Yelp
Horendous customer service. I've tried this place twice before, doing so because I live a block away and wanted to support local business, but I would rate this place a ZERO if I could. The customer service here is HORRIBLE. The guys working at the front and register are rude to certain customers and a certain demographic only. I've had a 5 star experience at Tikka Marsala on Elm st. would highly recommend them for this particular type of cuisine.

Kelly S.

Yelp
We had a lovely team lunch at Kadhai! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and features white table cloths which gives it an elegant vibe! There is plenty of street metered parking or a parking garage a block over. The lunch buffet offered a variety of dishes hot and cold to enjoy. I personally have not tried a lot of traditional Indian dishes so it was nice to be able to sample a lot of options all at once! My favorite dish was the lamb! It was flavorful and tasted delicious on the rice. The bread on the table was absolutely amazing and accompanied the sauces on my plate. If you saved room for dessert they had rice pudding and these little honey balls for those with a sweet tooth! The staff was friendly and accommodated our larger party of 9!

Billy V.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. I would recommend the chicken makhani over the chicken tikki masala as personal preference. The makhani was creamy and buttery, which I enjoyed more than the tikki masala's sauce. I gave this a 4 star since I thought it was a bit pricey. Two entree's and naan came out to $45. However I would come back when my bank permits. Pro: -Delicious food -Fast waiters and service. Took orders, got check, attended us quickly Cons: -They need to replace some lights, they kept flickering and got annoying -Bit pricey for the atmosphere but food ratio was pretty good -Wish they had their own parking lot so I dont have to get street parking Tips: -Order different dishes if you come with friends or family then share them so that you get to try every option since they have a fair selection

Rachel W.

Yelp
Excellent Indian food in downtown Bethesda! The okra masala specifically was fantastic, and the naan was excellent as well (tried both plain and garlic). The palak paneer was a bit too creamy of a base for me, and I did not like the bhel puri (too much sev, barely any tomatoes/chickpeas), but they did pack it well for delivery and you construct it yourself - they provide the ingredients separately including tamarind and mint sauces, so it does not get soggy. I will definitely come back for the okra and naan though!

Connie B.

Yelp
I always enjoy the entrees I get. The butter chicken is great and the eggplant dish is so tasty. I love the sauces and dipping the naan bread in everything.

Tyler C.

Yelp
Simple unassuming storefront holding amazing meals within! I love being able to walk into a restaurant and just start eating! Beautiful buffet that is complete and ready to go. Terrific butter chicken, beef curry, basmati rice and lots more. Food was spiced right. Dessert was pumpkin or rice pudding. Also excellent. Lots of waiters to fill your water glass or take a drink order. Worth a drive over.

Nina J.

Yelp
Best Indian restaurant. High quality food, big portions & friendly service. What more could you want?

Neelam S.

Yelp
Better than Rasika! As a brown person, I'm always looking for excellent South Asian dining options as a way to skip cooking for the week. If you've ever made South Asian food, you'd know it's some of the most time-consuming cuisine to make. Hence why there are so many terrible South Asian restaurants that take short-cuts in terms of cooking or using quality ingredients. We've been dining at Kadhai for years and it still stands out as top-notch Indian food. Whether we're dining in or ordering take-out, we've never been disappointed! Must-tries include the crispy spinach (palak chaat), butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, kabobs, lacha parata, and gajar halwa!

Lia M.

Yelp
Kadhai is my favorite Indian buffet in the area. It's reasonably priced, the service is great, and the food is delicious. It is super popular, so I try to go before noon so I don't have to wait. The spread is huge, and there's something for everything. I think Kadhai excels at their meat dishes. Chicken tikka, butter chicken, lamb curries--the meat is tender and sauce flavorful. I also really like their samosas and pakoras. They usually have gulab jamun as well, and it's good here. Naan is served fresh. Kadhai is my favorite place for lunch in Bethesda.

Gary H.

Yelp
We have been ordering and eating at this restaurant for awhile now. Thw last carry out we had from here was horrible. The quality of food we received was not comparable to our past experiences. We will not return.

Noreen B.

Yelp
The food quality seems to have declined since we last went before the pandemic. It's all pretty bland, for the American palate. The spinach appetizer was good. We ordered the mixed grill which was ok, not great. The bhindi dish was unrecognizable as Indian. It's a great location with outdoor dining right in the middle of Bethesda. I wish the food was more authentic, tasty.

Heather H.

Yelp
I've ordered from here several times. It's always a solid choice. The meals can easily be split for two or leftovers. I've tried their aloo gobi and saag paneer, and I'm happy with my order every time. Hopefully, I can enjoy dine in service in the near future.

Dawn M.

Yelp
Wow, wait... double wow. Bhindi masala okra in peanut coconut sauce was a favorite. I really enjoyed my lamb Punjabi medium spicey. Just a hint of burn. Very suitable for Indian food newbies but still not wimpie. Chicken Saag was great according to my Indian food loving friend from Washinton state. These must be savored with eyes closed. Bhagara Baingan and chicken makhani were also strongly recommended.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service! Prices are fair for Bethesda area. Highly recommend and will definitely go back.
