South Africa's Super Bloom Has Amazing Wildflower Views

"Offering unique lodging such as a cave suite with a private terrace, this reserve in the nearby mountains is popular for exceptional stargazing and for viewing ancient rock art dating back some 6,000 years created by early San and Khoikhoi peoples, combining natural spectacle with cultural heritage." - Greta Rybus

Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve | Best Spanish castles to stay in

"This spectacular nature reserve, three hours from Cape Town, is home to a unique spa resort and its ten unusual ‘cave suites’. Although the facades are man-made, the suites are cleverly integrated into the surrounding rock topography to be almost indistinguishable. Cave-like interiors and uninterrupted landscape views reconnect you with your primitive self. You can also opt for one of their two ‘open-air suites’, situated away from the main lodge for more privacy and utter tranquillity. Guests sleep out under a carpet of stars, and wake to sunrise and uninterrupted views of the bushveld. " - Matthew Roach

An absolutely beautiful setting I had high expectations reinforced by the price point and previous stays in other Cederberg places. I really wanted to love my stay. But: the caves are really just dated cramped very basic 2* hotel rooms made into a fake cave. Curtains kind of broken, basin that did not drain and no cupboards to store clothes and belongings so our room looked like a teenagers mess the entire 3 days. Food was really expensive and mediocre. Staff were friendly although not particularly professional but service was generally good.

Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve is more than a gem, it is an experience! From the dramatic rock formations, through to the ever changing geography and views - if you do the sunset cruise - you can see tomorrow on the horizon as the Karoo is spread out below you. Highly recommend the tours as their highly experienced guide eagerly shares so much information of the secrets nature holds. The accommodation was 100% in service, cleanliness, private, and comfortable. There are 2 swimming pools, one nestled in the rocks. One can do your own catering or visit the licensed restaurant where all meals are available - remember to book! Take your walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and definitely a camera along, it is suited to families or honeymoon couples - rooms are private. The staff excel in offering good service and information relating to the reserve. We will definitely go back - it is only 200km from Cape Town and great views on offer when you drive to the Reserve, so budget extra time and fill your tank at the last (very small) town: Oppie Berg. Just go!

We travlled from Calvinia on our return from Kgalagadi. Two flats but luckily had two spares. Staff was very helpful and we are greatful for there assistance. While at dinner all staff was vested to make it a priceless experience, the stay and the meal. The couples massage at the rock towers, the trip to the drawings and the story telling was unforgettable, we thank you.

First I must comment on the food - WOW! The lamb chops in particular are just the best I’ve ever had. Honestly one of the best meals of my life. Especially when sitting outside by the huge fire of the boma under the stars. The location is of course beautiful. Stark and raw and natural - stunning and ethereal. The team went out of their way to make my stay a pleasure. Not only were they great, when I had a puncture on the road they arranged for my tire to be taken to town to get sorted out and arranged the whole thing for me. That’s really going the extra mile and I want to thank them all again for that. All in all, it’s a magical place. Do all the excursions, go spend time alone in the wilderness, chat to the strangers you’ll meet there and enjoy the silence. Thanks for an incredible stay!

We enjoyed every moment thanks to friendly and capable staff. We enjoyed the scenery and the resort is situated on a beautiful spot. We would have like to do your sunrise tour and maybe a spa session but we have limited time. Will come and visit again for at least a day longer.

One of the most beautiful places in South Africa 🇿🇦. The food was great and the staff was really amazing. Would like to thank everyone at Kagga Kamma for making the weekend spectacular. Thank you for making the proposal so special. Will be back next year.

A unique experience. Preferable if you have an SUV or 4x4 or high clearance vehicle. Those last 37 kms, are a little challenging but lots of fun if you drive a 4 x 4 like we did, it was part of the adventure. The hotel resort site has cave rooms, and all the different packages available make it perfect for a lot of different styles of vacation. Cave suites, thatched hutts, high end family villas, isolated camp grounds, etc. The food was amazing. The entire staff from the bar man, reception and guides on the Star gazing or game drives are all kwoledgable, pleasant, and attetentive to our needs, safety, and comfort. We will go back again !

We camped in our snug roofpod. Watching a magnificent sunset over the pool area and in the early morning witnessing the moon setting! Glorious in every way!
