Lettuce Entertain You To Close Oyster Bah and Crab Cellar | Eater Chicago

"An even more low-key extension of the nautical theme, Crab Cellar opened three years after Quality Crab and Oyster Bah as a relaxed spot for cocktails, crab legs, jumbo shrimp, and more; I remember it as a casual alternative focused on seafood and drinks. The Crab Cellar will cease operations on Sunday, November 20." - Naomi Waxman

My wife and I visited on 7/ 26/25 for the first time and we were not disappointed. This was our 22yrs Anniversary weekend getaway. The food was awesome! The soup, crabs, and shrimp was hot, plentiful and of good quality. We truly enjoyed ourselves in every way with good service and a great atmosphere. This is a must visit for all seafood lovers if in the area. We will be back. To all, please keep up the great job.

On Labor Day I went to Kahler’s Crabhouse for the first time. I ordered a Medium Male Dozen. Unfortunately, more than a few of the crabs were overcooked(mushy) and hollow. I am familiar with crabs sometimes being hollow but we had about 3 that were on the empty side. For medium males they were on the smaller side. Overall I was honestly disappointed. Doesn’t mean you all aren’t a great crabhouse. The employees were prompt and communicative, I just did not enjoy my batch of crabs!

I saw this restaurant on IG and decided to check it out. I drove an hour to get here just to be disappointed. I wanted to dine in. However, I was greeted with, "Do you have reservations?" I said no, and the host proceeded to tell me she did not have space for one person, and it's best to make reservations. I decided to just order some crabs to go since I drove so far and didn't want the trip to be a total waste. I go to the takeout side and discover that they are limited on sizes and male/female crabs. I ordered half a dozen large male crabs. After I placed my order and paid is when the girl behind the counter decided to tell me it would be a 35-minute wait. I instantly got annoyed. This place is not customer friendly and definitely needs to improve their communication with customers. The crabs were heavily loaded with seasoning and tasted just ok once I took some of the seasoning off. I definitely will not be traveling back here, nor would I ever recommend this place. Parking sucks and the place is small inside. Takeout side has one table for customers to wait at or eat ice cream at. If you're thinking about coming here, find another spot. Jimmy's or Mike's are better restaurants.

We had large heavy male crabs with 20% off $90. What a deal...delicious. The food and homemade butter pecan ice cream was amazing. Affordable prices. Cozy atmosphere.

Google
Food was excellent! Ordered a dozen cooked crabs to go and wound up eating lunch. The only negative was it was hot outside on the deck but that no fault of theirs. Didn't know reservations were needed.

Kahler's is a crabhouse. There are plastic tablecloths to keep the juices from the crabs from soaking through and buckets to place your crab shells in but this is typical of a crabhouse. The crabs with the seasoning were hot and steamed while you wait. They were sweet and full of crabmeat. The crab fluff was pure lump crabmeat with no fillers. It was phenomenal. It is recommended to make reservations and if you are thinking of eating steamed crabs you need to reserve your crabs. You are allowed to BYOB unopened bottles of beer or wine. The waitresses do get busy so I would order a pitcher of drink whether it is soda, lemonade or water

Google
Came here yesterday and got a 1 dz medium and 1/2 dz small males, and 1lb shrimp. First of all, the girl at the counter was so sweet and nice. Secondly, the shrimp were seasoned so deliciously. Finally, the crabs: they were heavy and full and seasoned to perfection (not super spicy or salty). Meat was tender and sweet. Not mushy at all! Came home and added some corn and sausage and it was on! If you’re reading this review, look no further. Just save me some.

Google
My office had a crab feast yesterday at Kahlers. This is my second time at this establishment. The crabs and shrimp were delicious . I really liked how well seasoned the crabs were, which gave it more flavor. After the crabs feast, I ordered a crab cake and fries on the side for my mom's dinner. She said it was the best crab she had eaten. In a while.

Yelp
I visited Kahler's a year ago and really enjoyed it. Last year's visit was during the week day and it wasn't extremely busy. Today we had reservations for 11 @3 on a Sunday. It was extremely crowded. Reservations are definitely recommended. Our table was ready on time. On this particular visit I was disappointed by a few things. Let's start with what went right. Pros- 1.Our reserved table was ready. 2. Crabs were fat and delicious. 3. Three people ordered the shrimp platter with 3 variations of shrimp and loved it. 4. They have a sink within the restaurant if you just want to wash your hands. 5. A screened in outdoor eating area. Cons 1. It took 20-30 minutes to get apps. When the cream of crab and fries were received they were cold and the waitress had to microwave the soup again. 2. I ordered 1lb of shrimp and onions w/ 2 ears of corn for my app and never received them. The crabs came out an hour later with my corn. The waitress said the shrimp were coming up and she just needed to get them. I cancelled them because I wanted them before the crabs not over an hour later. So until the crabs came I and my daughter watched everyone eating but us. 3. The bathroom had no paper towels and at 1 point no toilet paper. The trash can was overrun and needed to be emptied. There is only 1 stall for women and men. 4. A long wait to get food and even pay for your bill. 5. The waitress had to reminded that mozzarella sticks had been ordered as an appetizer. They came after the crabs and her entree. I'm not sure but I feel they may have been short on staff, but if that's the case they need to compensate the customer in some way and apologize and acknowledge that they're short tonight. I bought my family here to celebrate a birthday and because of the extreme wait they said this was their first and last time coming here. SN: Someone should be checking the bathrooms every hour to make sure they are stocked with the necessary supplies, trash emptied, and clean.

Yelp
Unfortunately this place is never consistent. Some days the service is great and the crabs are delicious! Other times the service is slowwwwww and the crabs are cold. It's honestly the luck of the draw. The prices are always good though so it's worth a try. This last time we went the crabs were pretty good and we had a nice waitress.

Yelp
I got so caught up in my craving for crabs last night that I forgot to check in--so here we go. Even though it's not technically crab season in Maryland, I was proud that the crabs my husband and I enjoyed for our bimonthly date night came from my home state of Louisiana. We went to Kahler's, a simple, no-frills spot with minimal décor, but the food was outstanding and the staff was friendly and welcoming. As someone who only started eating whole crabs last year (I used to stick to snow crabs), I really enjoyed them. The seasoning was perfect, the crabs were heavy and satisfying, and the crab dip on the pretzel was amazing. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own unopened beer or wine--no corking fee either. If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try. It's small, so I recommend making a reservation.

Yelp
So a year later, we made it back to Kahlers Crab and it's necessary to write a review because the last time, we only went for the viral crab fluff. This time, we got so many different things, this shrimp fluff with all that juicy lump crab meat. 10000/10! Absolutely delicious! The jumbo crabs, absolutely delicious! The broiled crab cake, lump, juicy, flavorful! So bomb! Side dishes... ehhhh... it's a no for me... the "candied carrots"... there was nothing candied about them. They were just boiled in some sugar. The green beans, broccoli and garlic potatoes... just regular, nothing special about them. The service, the waitress was nice... but it wasn't a service that made me feel like she deserved more than the 18% gratuity that's automatically added to the check. Also, the restaurant is BYOB. They don't serve any alcohol... but you can bring your own unopened bottle. Also, this is nothing fancy.... It's a little place that's like a little hole in the wall... but it's good.

Yelp
I've been dying to try this place since I saw an influencer rave about it. The look is your typical no-frills-style crab house. Well, I decided to give them a try for my birthday. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. Crabs are my absolute favorite! I can eat them every day and not get tired of them. That said, I reserved one dozen of the large males and one dozen of the jumbo males. This is where I went wrong because I should have asked for one dozen first to see if I'd like them. When I asked our waitress to do one at a time, it was too late, which was okay because I knew I was about to go in & devour them bad boys. However, the waitress informed us that they no longer had jumbos, so they gave us XL makes instead since they were pretty close in size. Thank you, but it would've been nice to be informed of the change beforehand to see if I'd be okay with the size difference, but I was told after the fact. We started with a few appetizers: a cup of Maryland crab soup, a bowl of cream of crab, and crab fluff. For our entrees, we decided to go with steamed shrimp and onions, and snow crab legs to accompany our blue crabs. We also wanted corn on the cob, but they were out. The shrimp came out first, and they were well-seasoned and pretty tasty! Next was the crab fluff. I could've done without the funnel cake-like batter. It had a lot of crab meat and not much filler, but it needed more flavor. The soup came out next, which should've been first, but whatever. My sister said the Maryland crab soup was decent but needed more crab meat. My other sister said the cream of crab was not good at all and tasted like corn starch, so she couldn't stomach it and sent it back. They were nice to remove it from our bill. My sister said the snow crab legs were decent. Now, on to the star of the show: they were beauties, but they lacked flavor even though they were coated with crab seasoning. The meat was not as sweet as I'm used to, either. They were desperately in need of some beer. Most of the large males were heavy, and so were the XL, except for about two that were light and hollow, which is quite normal. We asked for condiments: mayo, ketchup, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, and crab seasoning to make some crab sauce to see if that would kick things up a notch, and it did a little. We finished the night with some ice cream to go. We chose butter pecan, which was tasty and had huge pecans in it--very fresh tasting. My sister also tried the rainbow ice cream, and neither liked it. It was too sweet for me and had something in it, maybe sprinkles, but I'm not sure. I agree with another reviewer that I don't understand what the hype is about. Pros: Ample parking Butter pecan ice cream Steamed shrimp & onions Nice staff You can bring your own wine/beer & they'll give you ice/ice bucket Cons: Crabs lacked flavor Cream of crab soup The bathroom could be cleaner Rainbow ice-cream

Yelp
Drove down from Philly to come try Kahlers after seeing all the crab videos on social media.. I wanted to see what the hype was about. Fairly decent size parking lot. I called ahead to reserve the jumbo crabs but the largest they had was XL. I ordered a dozen. Reserved a 2:00 spot, it was a Monday so when we arrived it was pretty empty. The restaurant also had a covered outdoor deck. We chose to sit out there as the restaurant was chilly. Dad ordered the flounder with two sides. I ordered the XL crabs with light seasoning. Which wasn't light to me. I also added an add-on of steam shrimp and corn on the cob.The shrimp with sautéed onions was delicious. The crabs were a nice size even though I know I was charged the jumbo price. Had a lot of seasoning and I asked for light. The crabs were juicy & heavy. However the crabmeat was a little bland, not sweet like smaller crabs. Not sure if it's because of the size. Over all the still were delicious and fulfilling. I was stuffed and only ate 5. Ended up bringing the rest home. The place was clean, server was great, very attentive. I will be back, and it is BYOB so nexttime l'll prepare and bring all the things I need .. I did bring an extra shirt just in case. Oh an I love how they have this open sink situation to wash your hands when your done with the crabs, nice touch!

Yelp
Celebrated my sisters bf's birthday. We joined them and we were so glad we did. Crabs were meaty, sweet and big. Perfect amount of seasoning. Shrimp was steamed perfectly. We ate most of the platter the next day so it was probably better if eaten right away. Service was great. Was checked on throughout our dining. Provided a bucket of ice for our wines. Yes, you can bring unopened bottles of wine or beer only. The place is very casual. We got large males but we'll be back for those XL males. Then jumbo. Oh my!

Yelp
Kahler's Crab House delivered an enjoyable dining experience. From the moment we sat down, the service was really good--our waitress was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. While they're best known for their crabs, the real standout for us was the white corn--sweet, buttery, and absolutely delicious. The potato salad was also a nice surprise--well-seasoned and a perfect sidekick to the seafood. And let's talk about that butter pecan ice cream--rich, creamy, and the perfect ending to the meal. It felt like a little scoop of nostalgia. It really reminded me of our own home made custard based ice cream. Pros: Amazing service, tasty potato salad, standout corn, and unforgettable ice cream. While the crabs didn't steal the show, they were tasty. Also, they sell out of the larger blues rather quickly so please be sure to reserve them as soon as they open.

Yelp
A cute and fun girls day eating crabs. And you can bring your own sauce and drinks. A win win situation. Our waitress Mallory was amazing. The service was amazing. Definitely have to make reservations. The patio is a bit warm so be mindful, I can't wait to come back with more friends. The crabs are the bomb. The corn is soooo sweet but it is soooo good. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. And we finished off with bourbon pecan ice cream!! Yummy !! Check it out for yourself and thank me later!!!!

Yelp
My girlfriends and I had lunch at Kahler's yesterday, and it exceeded our expectations. It was our first visit, and not only was the food delicious, but the customer service from our server Mallory was exceptional. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended, and if you're planning to get the blue crabs, you can reserve them in advance. Here are the prices for blue crabs: Males: - Small: $37 per dozen - Medium: $60 per dozen - Large: $90 per dozen - X-large: $120 per dozen - Jumbo: $140 per dozen Females: - Small/Medium: $35 per dozen - Large: $65 per dozen - Jumbo: $175 per dozen Note: For orders of large and up, you can add shrimp and corn for $18.99. We tried several appetizers: crab deviled eggs, cheese French fries, and hush puppies. The crab deviled eggs were decent but could have used some sweet relish. The cheese French fries were perfect--hot, fresh, and lightly seasoned with Old Bay. One of my friends found the hush puppies dry and preferred butter over the honey they were served with. For the main course, we ordered three dozen large male blue crabs. They were fresh, hot, well-seasoned, and meaty with sweet meat. The accompanying butter was unnecessary. Besides the crabs, the shrimp were outstanding--the best I've ever had. We ordered them with onions, a Maryland specialty, and I now prefer my shrimp this way. The shrimp were XL and served with cocktail sauce. The corn was also sweet and tasty, even without butter. The ambiance was great and family-friendly. Kahler's is a BYOB establishment with the following rules: only unopened beer and wine are allowed; no other drinks or personal containers are permitted, with no exceptions. Overall, we had a fantastic time and can't wait to return.

Yelp
Mannnn, the best crabs I've ever had. We take that drive from DC to Baltimore every once in a while just for Kahler's. The staff are always warm and welcoming. Once we took that drive and they didn't have any crabs! So we got the crab fries, shrimp, and crab legs. The crab legs don't hit like the crabs but eveything is good! I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
One they are NEVER OPEN ON TIME LIKE NEVER. Two the charge u to sit in there and the inside isn't nice or updated at all. Three the crabs are good sometime dry but seasoning is good Four they're over price

Yelp
Small little spot that does NOT serve alcohol that was the small detail I missed I'd heard ally about this spot but I someone missed that We had crab devil eggs - TERRIBLE don't waste your money it's just smashed yolk in a half of egg Fries -served hot and they were good like fries Old bay wings - cooked exactly how we asked fried extra and they were delicious Naked wings same as about delicious Onion rings - good Butterfly shrimp- good House salad good Hush puppies good my cousin had never had them with honey she enjoyed that Crabs crabs crabs they were worth the hour drive I'm a big Mikes fan in Annapolis or Seaside in Glen Burnie Kahler's does not compare to them but they were good service was 4 out of 5

Yelp
I walked in and I wasn't impressed by the dining area. The waitress greeted us right away asking did we have reservations? But, we didn't. I ordered the $90.00 males. I liked the seasoning on the crabs but, that was it. I just was not impressed. The place didn't even smell like crabs. When the crabs came out they didn't even smell like crabs. I was totally confused. The place doesn't sell alcohol but, you can bring your own in. I'm still not impressed. This place was one and done for me and I love crabs. I just couldn't see what all the hype was about this place.

Ms. T.

Yelp
Very disappointed in the size and price- the customer service was subpar at best. Small crabs, seating meh- could use a jukebox or they could play music. It's so quiet you can't really talk and eat in peace bc someone will easily hear your conversation. More to say but not worth the type.

Uncle B.

Yelp
BYOB only large crabs were small but tasted fresh. Good seasoning not too spicy. 18% tip added to all tables. Would try again
google avatar

Adrienne G.

Yelp
This place is amazing! We were seated on the outdoor deck and enjoyed the crabs, steamed shrimp, & so much delicious food. We got medium male crabs and they were a great price & super meaty. Anna was our server and she was top notch! Always came and checked on us and always made sure everything was good! Make sure to make reservations before you come as they have a lot of parties coming in.
google avatar

Lottie Y.

Yelp
Great place to have seafood. It could be crowded on a weekday so reservation is recommended. We liked the half and half soup. The fried hard crab was tasty.
google avatar

Ron C.

Yelp
Crabs were amazing big and full, the hush puppies were good also just didnt like the honey dipping sauce for them, would of preferred like a sweet butter sauce, came here because of the Keith Lee video.
google avatar

Brigitte W.

Yelp
I think I ordered large (or medium) males, corn, and old bay fries. They were really good and came out in a timely manner. Not from the area but I come in town from Chicago often just to order from here.
google avatar

Travis S.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. I stumbled upon this place with friends. I must say at first I was hesitant to order but when they have crabs year round it can't be so bad. The service was cool and the food was good. You have to try the half and half cream of crab soup it's delicious. The only reason I'm giving them 4stars is because they automatically charge 18% gratuity to every check. That's insane! First gas go up and now restaurants raising food prices and added gratuity even if service is subpar. Overall, I would come back for more crabs and food.
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Great ma and pa crab house. They take great care of you and the crabs are excellent! I love that Kahlers has transformed a home into an eatery. The ambiance feels down home good.

Yelp
I called in and made a reservation early in the afternoon and was told I was able to reserve crabs. I had a reservation for 715pm...I get a call at 640pm advising they don't have the crabs I reserved with my reservation..they over sold. I was absolutely disappointed because we were literally in route to have dinner. This was definitely unacceptable and unprofessional. When you have a reservation for both space and crabs you expect just that. They did nothing to accommodate us for the inconvenience and one of the servers was very unbothered. The other server was apologetic and sincere.
google avatar

Priestly C.

Yelp
The advertisments for this establishment have been coming on my Facebook page for about 2 years now. Since I was close by, I made it my business to stop by. The place is not big in size. It looks like a very family friendly place. The staff is also very friendly. I went there especially for the Blue Crab. The prices range from $37 a dozen for small blue crab, to $125 a dozen for jumbo size crabs. In NY, they usually only sell small Crabs, so anything of a bigger size in a well worth experience. They do have an All You Can Eat Option for small Blue Crab, & corn Monday-Thursdays. They also sell more than just seafood. They sell Chicken Tenders, Sirloin Steaks, & Burgers. Some of the things on the menu are seasonal though. I was a bit disappointed I didn't get to try their Crab Deviled Eggs. One thing you must try is their Bacon Broccoli Cheese Bites! That was amazing. Overall, great place.
google avatar

Stuart M.

Yelp
I drove much further than I had to. Their pricing was better than closer places. And they have a covered porch that has fans, and handles the summer heat while staying covid safe. Our crabs were pretty large, properly cooked, well seasoned, and arrived 20 minutes after we ordered. We also had corn that was sweet. For desert, their ice cream is home made, and $3 gets you a generous scoop in a cup. We had the chocolate eclair ice cream and it was great. Quality and value. You gotta love it!

Yelp
Went here based on a TIK Tok review. Which will never happen again! It's literally a hole in the wall kind of establishment. It's not made for big crowds at all. It's small and very tight inside and out on the deck. The food is mediocre but the crabs were good. We tried the crab devil eggs, the crab fries and buffalo chicken tenders. The devil eggs need more crab and seafood flavor. The fries need to be fried harder and lump crab needs to be added on top. The chicken tenders needs to be off the menu in general. They are frozen tenders they fry and add buffalo sauce to (nothing homemade.) The crabs were good Although I've had better. It was not worth the HOUR AND A HALF we had to wait. We thought of leaving multiple times before the food came out because it was just so long of the wait. But, we stayed since we drove 2 hours to try them and everywhere else was booked due to it being Father's Day! The deck was hot, the deck fans did absolutely nothing. To say the least, we will most likely never return unless it was the only option and we really wanted Maryland crabs.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Food is very good. Crab cakes and crab fluffs are amazing. Give them a try you won't be disappointed at all. The wait staff is very polite and patient with the customer.

Nita J.

Yelp
Snow crabs were dry, broccoli and fries were cold. I drove all the way from Philadelphia because of the great ratings and was disappointed . Will not return!!!
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
Good crabs, but if you are looking for true old bay flavor, this is not your place. Service is fair as a salad and a side were forgotten but refunded. My shrimp fluff was good, but they didn't remove shrimp tail shell, which ended up in the middle of a fluff, causing you to bite shrimp shell. They should have removed the shell before putting it into the fryer. The food is good, but nothing to write home about. However, the homemade ice cream is exceptional. Thick with lots of added ingredients. The raspberry truffle ice cream was great with chunks of chocolate truffles and lots of raspberry flavor. In all, it's a bit pricey for what it is.

Kim M.

Yelp
I traveled a couple of weeks ago from the DC area. They only had large female crabs which weren't large. It was a birthday celebration so I went. The food was okay. The best dish to me were the steamed spiced shrimp. I will go back when they have larger crabs. Also I don't agree with the service charge with 5 or more guest. The tip was over $40 something dollars

Michelle J.

Yelp
Listen... it's bare bones. Essentially a home that's been transformed into a little restaurant. I was actually kinda taken aback by this initially. But the crabs were great! They were large and meaty and very well priced. It's BYOB so that automatically means a less expensive night out. We thought the service was good. A little slow but our waitress apologized for being slow and thanked us for our patience. We had a fun night out and all agreed we would return here. Note: I would not recommend the salads because they were nothing special at all. Stick w fries and corn if you want something to go along w your crabs.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is so good. The portions are great. The service is top notch. You're treated well and will leave full.

Yelp
Great crabs , great service , amazing prices! , just be sure to go early because they sell out quick !

Yelp
My husband wanted to find crab on our drive back from DC. This place was just a few minutes off the highway, so a quick and easy stop, and man was it a great idea! We sat out on the deck since we're still covid-careful. We ordered a dozen males, with sides of carrots, corn on the cob, and cinnamon apples. We managed to keep the baby entertained in the high chair long enough to eat two of the crabs, and then had to leave. The staff were helpful in getting everything packed up to go and suggesting how to eat it. We finished the crab at home (over an hour away) with our parents and it was still delicious. Great crab, great sides, great experience - despite our having to leave!

Yelp
Great Local Crab Joint off the beaten path on route 7 in Rosedale (just north of Baltimore. The crabs are excellent the staff responsive - a jeans and tee shirt kind of atmosphere. Worth the trip if you want a bit of 20th century Americana - these places are rare

Yelp
From the time I checked in on Yelp, until the time our crabs came out, it took an hour. My husband left, went to the spirits store to get wine and beer (this place allows BYO beer and wine), came back and we still hadn't gotten our food. The waitress came over three times and said they had a big party in the back and sorry for the wait. BUT I saw two ladies come in, be seated, get their crabs, and start eating before we even got our appetizer of old bay wings. We arrived at about 7:45pm. I felt we were a part of the end of the night wind down. They were out of cream of crab soup, but offered to make more for another 20 minute wait. I could not eat the seafood combo. It was fried so hard, every item tasted the same (breading) and the oil it was fried in tasted like it needed to be changed. After waiting an hour, I was so hungry. I really tried to tolerate it. I finally told the waitress I couldn't do it. Our appetizer wings came out last and they were doused in old bay on one side of the wings. The manager never came over and only offered to remove the seafood platter, but not the sides that come with the platter. I never even touched my fries. The server offered us free ice cream as a constellation but, apparently, that's offered to everyone. We declined, but my six year old opted for the mint choc chip that came with his kids meal. The one thing that was really good...the corn on the cob. We ordered a half dozen of jumbo crabs (and we thought they were brown bottoms). Nope, just brown at the bottom from being overcooked. We threw the last crab in the bucket of trash on the floor. We will never return!

Yelp
Awesome place for getting crabs. Although I would recommend to call to inquire about the availability of crabs or you might be left without the ones you want. The restaurant doesn't open at 11am but around 12:30pm. The 11am is only for take out. I went there on my way back to NY and was told that and unfortunately left without crabs.

Yelp
Excellent crab. I ordered some pretty large males at $55/dozen and they were indeed big and meaty! Great flavor and everything was fresh. I called in the order at 3:30 and they were done by 4. Good contactless pickup -- they bring the crabs out to your car after you give them a description of it. The cherry on top -- the packaging did not leak.

Yelp
Great size and tasting crabs. The service was good. Make sure to make a reservation as it's not a big place but cozy. The homemade ice cream is so delicious.

Yelp
Best prices in town. The Medium males were a good size. The service is always fast and my order is correct. Q

Yelp
Went there from Philadelphia and ate there and took 2 dozen to go! Got all way home and the crabs were not done! So I gave 2 stars because the crabs I ate inside were great. The ones I took home were not. Unfortunately it was a 2 hour drive or I would have returned them!

Yelp
These other reviews seem to be either 1 star or 5 stars and no in between. Let me break it down for y'all because obviously some people get so angry for the littlest things and rate a quality restaurant 1 star. The 1 stars are because of the service or long waits. If you're going to come into a popular and small dinner spot at 6pm and be angry that you haven't gotten your crabs (that they make fresh) for an hour, then that's on you. It takes a while to get quality fresh crabs prepared on the spot. Be patient. And it still tastes delicious even after waiting. The service, like a ton of other places, is going to be a bit slow during the dinner rush, but it's also not the waitress's fault that the crabs take a while to prepare. Just be patient, and rate the restaurant like 3 stars then. It's a shame some of these reviews say "amazing food! slow preparation time. 1 star". That's not fair to the restaurant. I give this place FIVE STARS because every single time I am in Maryland, I make sure I stop by this place since I know this has the best crabs. The people that work here are genuine and nice. They care about your meal and if something is not right or you didn't like something, they'll work to fix it. BTW, they do not offer free ice cream to everyone. They will make sure you're enjoying the food and give you a ton of condiments if needed. The food is actually the best in Maryland and sometimes I wish I could drive out of state every day just for this place! Sure, the crabs take a while, but that's expected since it's prepared fresh how you asked for it. I can be patient enough and wait. You're doing great Kahler's! Keep it up.

Yelp
The "All You Can Eat Crabs" drew me to Kahler's. We made reservations for 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 17th and that was definitely a good decision. The place filled up really fast. Our hostess was Kim and she explained the rules since it was our first visit. We weren't able to get served until our whole party arrived. Note: They don't bring out the next dozen until you've eaten the previous batch, claws included since they don't believe in waste which I thought was cute. Once everyone arrived, the crabs were brought out. We also ordered the corn on the cob. Let me tell you that the crabs were piping hot, right out of the pot, meaty and seasoned just right for a Marylander. The corn was sweet and juicy. Within the 2 hours, we managed to down two and 1/2 dozen with corn and drinks. We couldn't leave without taking some of the homemade ice cream to go. I had the butter pecan and it was so good. I couldn't give them 5 Stars because the seating was extra tight. I could barely get out of my seat to use the restroom. Once I got out of my seat, I had to turn sideways to get between the tables to the restroom. My 2nd issue was the single restroom which was very outdated and didn't have any paper towels or a hand dryer so I had to use toilet tissue. The 3rd issue was the dust all over the hanging themed decor. I don't think any of it had been dusted or cleaned for quite some time.

Yelp
We came here for the crab cakes and they did not disappoint. The crab cake platter came with 1 large crab cake, a roll and 2 sides of your choice. Plenty of food at a good price. The lumps were large with little to no fillers. This was definitely a great puck for lunch.

Yelp
Ordered 3 dozen "extra large" [male] crabs and 2 crab-cake platters (w/ 2 sides each) to go. Crabs were full and tasty, no issues. Though, I'd say they were more on the "large" side. Price ($53/dozen) was excellent. They had everything ready (and hot) at the scheduled pickup time.

Yelp
Nice little spot to eat crabs and seafood. The crabs came out hot seasoned well and boy were they meaty. I also ordered the crab cake platter that came with a caesar salad and corn on the cob. This food was absolutely delicious! The crab cake was full of lump crab meat and taste soooo good. The corn was hot sweet and juicy. The caesar salad was delicious!!!! I also ordered cream of crab soup as a appetizer. I wasn't impressed with the cream of crab soup, I had much better!! I saved the review for soup for last because overall I was very pleased with the food, the taste, the portions & the service Oh, I forgot you have to try the homemade Ice Cream, Yum-Yum
