I've been dying to try this place since I saw an influencer rave about it. The look is your typical no-frills-style crab house. Well, I decided to give them a try for my birthday. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. Crabs are my absolute favorite! I can eat them every day and not get tired of them. That said, I reserved one dozen of the large males and one dozen of the jumbo males. This is where I went wrong because I should have asked for one dozen first to see if I'd like them. When I asked our waitress to do one at a time, it was too late, which was okay because I knew I was about to go in & devour them bad boys. However, the waitress informed us that they no longer had jumbos, so they gave us XL makes instead since they were pretty close in size. Thank you, but it would've been nice to be informed of the change beforehand to see if I'd be okay with the size difference, but I was told after the fact.
We started with a few appetizers: a cup of Maryland crab soup, a bowl of cream of crab, and crab fluff. For our entrees, we decided to go with steamed shrimp and onions, and snow crab legs to accompany our blue crabs. We also wanted corn on the cob, but they were out.
The shrimp came out first, and they were well-seasoned and pretty tasty! Next was the crab fluff. I could've done without the funnel cake-like batter. It had a lot of crab meat and not much filler, but it needed more flavor.
The soup came out next, which should've been first, but whatever. My sister said the Maryland crab soup was decent but needed more crab meat. My other sister said the cream of crab was not good at all and tasted like corn starch, so she couldn't stomach it and sent it back. They were nice to remove it from our bill. My sister said the snow crab legs were decent.
Now, on to the star of the show: they were beauties, but they lacked flavor even though they were coated with crab seasoning. The meat was not as sweet as I'm used to, either. They were desperately in need of some beer. Most of the large males were heavy, and so were the XL, except for about two that were light and hollow, which is quite normal. We asked for condiments: mayo, ketchup, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, and crab seasoning to make some crab sauce to see if that would kick things up a notch, and it did a little.
We finished the night with some ice cream to go. We chose butter pecan, which was tasty and had huge pecans in it--very fresh tasting. My sister also tried the rainbow ice cream, and neither liked it. It was too sweet for me and had something in it, maybe sprinkles, but I'm not sure.
I agree with another reviewer that I don't understand what the hype is about.
