Ah, Ocean Terrace! I mean, Kai Market! I liked the original name!
I've been to the Kai Market dinner buffet numerous times in the past, but not recently. I guess over 5 years, beyond my Elite years. My family has always treated old classmates or extended family members who are visiting Hawaii the first time to the dinner buffet here because of the relaxing atmosphere and beautiful ocean views, especially during the sunset where you really can see the green flash on certain days (that means someone came back from Davy Jones' locker!). As for the food, it's decent. There's a good amount of selections at the cold station with ahi poke, sashimi, sushi, salad, and etc. Dessert is pretty standard including an ice cream machine. The hot items serves prime rib and crab legs as it's highlights. Most of the items are seafood, and maybe half of the dishes are Chinese style, such as roast pork, fried rice, Chinese vegetables, soy salmon, salt pepper shrimp, and etc. Overall, not bad, not great, but definitely acceptable and worth it if you're Kama'aina because you get 25% off!!
I just went to try the breakfast buffet. It's $36/person. I luckily got an outside table that was right next to the ocean. Perfect setting!
As for the food goes, it was pretty basic. There's an omelet and eggs Benedict stations. The food was the typical sausages, pancake, scrambled eggs, tater tots, bacon, assorted breads, bread pudding, cereals, and etc. There was also Miso Soup, Congee, Japanese Curry, Rice, and Soba Noodles with a nice selection of toppings (natto included!). Plus, cold cuts and brie cheese, and asserted fruit.
Overall, all the food was good. Everything was pretty much premade and ready to be cooked, so you really can't go wrong, right? For some of the needing to prepare a little were good too, such as the omelet and saba. The congee had a weird consistency like corn starch was added to thicken the soup. The service was good. Our server was friendly and attentive. Always kept my Coffee filled and took our finished plates away.
Not a bad deal for a breakfast buffet with the Kama'aina discount. The views are amazing and you can't beat the atmosphere.
