Stopped in today for lunch after looking at the menu. I decided their lunch menu deemed worthy after reading the ingredients in the specialty rolls offered for $17 which I find to be good pricing on 2 special rolls...
When I arrived I was warmly greeted by the server and let her know I'd be sitting at the sushi bar...
I went to ladies room to wash up, and walked through a decent sized dining room and went through the curtains; I got smacked with extremely hot air as I entered, then once I opened the restroom door it was a little cooler...
After returning to the sushi bar (I put my things down prior to heading to ladies room) and sitting down, I began to notice how warm it was inside...like slightly uncomfortable warm while sitting down to eat in a restaurant...
I sat for at least 5 mins before requesting a menu...I only saw one server working at the time, and I understand how much it takes to run a full dining room, so this rarely bothers me...(making a note for others who may be more impatient than myself) She dropped me a water and I also asked for green tea...once she delivered that to me she asked if I was ready to order...had I not previously looked over the menu I would've needed more time.
I went with the jalapeño popper roll and the crunchy salmon roll. They were both quality rolls; lots of fresh ingredients on full size specialty rolls with tasty and innovative combinations of flavors!
The jalapeño popper was the star of the show for me...(and I tend to stick more w fully raw rolls rather than cooked or flash fried, but I'm so happy I ordered this one). The spice from the fresh pepper complimented the spicy tuna, spicy crab, and cream cheese perfectly with a nice crunch too...sauces balanced the roll between heat and sweet while the crisp from being quick fried absolutely reminded me of jalapeño poppers...total win.
The crunchy salmon I think I expected more from. While it was good, I thought it lacked a little something in flavor...fresh and delicious fish and veggies but lacking in flavor (a dusting of togarashi a Japanese spice made up of different seasonings blended together could work in my opinion).
After enjoying my lunch and being perfectly stuffed I asked for the check and was surprised to see a $3 charge for the green tea (now I have been charged before in another place or 2 over the years, but I find that it's usually complimentary...even though I do understand they can charge for it if they choose to)...not too much to report about regarding service as the woman was very sweet but on the busier side so all she had to do was take my food/drink order and bring me a tea. The chef at the sushi bar handed me my plate and that was most of the interaction I had (but this type of interaction is expected, at least for me during a busy time and eating at the sushi bar.)
Overall, a cute place that is creative, fairly priced, and serving fresh/quality sushi. I would return to try more sushi, but I would have to know it is cooler inside...I don't enjoy being in uncomfortable temperatures while dining, but I don't think anyone does...so that is my only negative for this review...need to fix the ac if there's issues w it, bc that's a sure way to lose customers once the real heat comes.
