I called to place a pick up order and this was my first experience here and let me tell you I was impressed first and foremost by the wait staff and the chefs behind the sushi counter. They greeted when you walked in and wished you well when you left! The establishment I must say was quite small and not a lot of tables so I'm curious to see how it looks when it's busy because due to all this rain there was plenty of seating. Ok now to the food I ordered the chicken pot stickers, Super Godzilla roll and the Shaggy dog roll, all were AMAZING and very flavorful. You could tell it was fresh and that my friends makes all the difference in the world especially when it comes to shusi! Had really good flavor all around and will definitely be going back to dine in and enjoy the full experience. If your looking for a really good sushi establishment then I say look no further and give this place a try I'm glad I did and they will now how a frequent customer! Thank you Kai Shushi for experience simply AMAZING!

Google
I couldn’t possibly express how much my partner and I love this restaurant. The ambience is charming, the staff is so sweet and attentive, and most importantly the food is consistently delicious. The quality and freshness of the fish relative to the price is worth it. It’s a small place that gets busy on Friday and Saturday night so try them on a weeknight and spend time trying the sashimi sampler to see what you like most that day. And if it’s a special occasion, call ahead and get the boat!! So worth it!!

My 7yo daughter wrote about Kai Sushi as part of a review writing project in her class. That's how much she loves Kai Sushi!! She loves sushi in general so she's tried many other places but she says this one is the best. We as a family absolutely love this place. The quality is exquisite👌(the sushi just melts in your mouth), and the service is amazing. Hands down one of the best sushi in town!

Just WOW! We love sushi, and explore and experiment often. Kai was SUCH a pleasant surprise. Excellent quality, great service and priced well in the sushi space. Very good experience, will go back.

Google
This was unexpectedly good. We loved every bite of everything we tried. The crispy rice with salmon was so good that we ordered a second serving. The rolls and sushi were fresh, great serving sized portions and I can't wait to order everything again. The White Dragon roll and the Spider Roll were both delicious. The chocolate mousse for desert was so good that we couldn't stop eating it even though we were full at that point.

Google
Best Sushi in Austin! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. This was our third time visiting, and it was amazing as always. It is shocking to say that having this type of quality food in this area. Hands down the freshest sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. I highly recommend ordering the mochi ice cream before leaving as a dessert. Overall, 10/10!!

Google
A solid sushi spot in Austin with fresh, well-prepared dishes. Their sashimi rice bowl is a standout, with generous portions of fish that outshine the rice. The chef and staff are friendly, making it a pleasant dining experience. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Google
Kai Sushi- excellent!! Go there now! Friendly staff and delicious sushi. You also need to order the spicy tuna crispy rice as an appetizer!! You can bring your own sake which we did. We ordered the Geisha roll and one with strawberries on top. I forget the name but I was surprised by it. Huge pieces. Kai Sushi, I’ll be back!!

Yelp
Oh my gosh This place is so good and food quality is best and owner is very nice and very good cook But I love to go there every day but prices are little high

Yelp
Enjoyed a quick lunch special at Kai today. It was good but nothing special - a solid 4 star experience. I ordered the 5 pieces of chef selected sushi + 1 Maki roll deal for $21. Slightly overpriced for the quality in my opinion. I selected the dragon roll, which was a tad too sweet for my taste. The nigiri had a good fish to rice ratio and flavorful fish. Attentive service and a clean, modern space.

Yelp
I definitely understand why this place has such good ratings. The entire staff was so nice, waitress was attentive and very sweet. The food was fresh, as well at beautifully put together and the restaurant itself is clean and cozy. Highly recommend and will be back in the future.

Yelp
Regular here. Great service , fresh and delicious sushi & sashimi . Lunch menu is slightly different. Love the sushi set, spicy edamame and Ika Geso. My wife love the Hamachi kama (snapper collar) as they will grill it after you finish the sashimi

Yelp
Ahh I really had high hopes for this place because it came highly recommended and we came for a bday party. It is really far from me too. I am giving it a generous 3 only because the staff and owner is really nice. And some of the sushi was pretty fresh and tasted good. The staff was very attentive and helpful and it's hard to rate them this way but I have to in hopes they know and maybe change in some way. First there is no parking and the wait for the sushi boat was long BUT that's not why I had to rate low. After eating and indulging our group left and one in our party got very sick. I thought she was having a heart attack but it turned out to be food poison. She was so sick. If it was an isolated incident we can chalk it up to indigestion or something but then another person in our party got sick too. We didn't find out until later. She was in the toilet all night and was still sick the next day. Out of our party of 7, 2 got so sick. So now I am so weary and most likely will not return. The place wasn't the cleanest. The table next to us had a baby who threw rice all over the floor lol but It's a small restaurant and it was busy that night. My miso soup tasted fine. The apps were ok, the squid balls were questionable. I ate it but idk if that's what made my friend sick. The salad was good. The tofu was good. I didn't eat the edamame. But the highlight was the boat it was beautiful. And every piece of sushi and sashimi I had was good. Pretty fresh but not the best sushi I've had and the rice is a bit too hard for my liking. The rice reminded me of HEB sushi rice which is sad. BUT the few pieces of sushi and sashimi fish I had wasn't bad. It was good. They grill the head of the fish after you've eaten. It was not bad. They even gave us a dessert for the bday girls. I only had a bite. However the experience of driving my friend home, worrying about her, thinking we were going to have an accident because I thought she was having a heart attack mars the whole dinner experience. And then finding out another friend had major tummy issues and couldn't eat the next day put the nail on the coffin. Will not be coming back sorry. But the boat made for a pretty pic! Hope you all have a better experience.

Yelp
We went to this restaurant few days ago. Even on a weekday there were quite a number of families dining there. The food was good. We tried miso, spicy edamame and bunch of Sushi. We liked all of them. We will go back and I recommend.

Yelp
The first time that I tried Kai Sushi was during the pandemic. My experience was alright but really not worth noting as I only picked it up. This time around I was able to sit and order at the restaurant. I brought my niece here as sushi was on her list of accepted meals after a long soccer tournament. We had a wonderful experience and wonderful service, so kind and authentic. Our food was delicious and we could not have left happier. I look forward to making more time to come and sit to enjoy the experience more often than not. This is also a great spot for a date night, very intimate and I'd say mostly quiet.

Yelp
We wanted a nice Sushi place close to Cedar Park and found Kai Sushi with great reviews in Yelp! What a nice meal! We had the lunch special with nigiri and a roll, including a salad with the most delicious dressing and a Miso soup. Service was quick and very friendly, the place is super cozy, a touch romantic and rather quiet. The food was delicious, we tried the Vegas roll and the deep fried shrimp tempura with avocado one. I will definitely be back! Super!!!

Yelp
We have been meaning to try Kai for a while as it is close to our home. We were not disappointed. Kai is not Uchi or Soto but it is a solid sushi restaurant. There are cooked options for you non-sushi lovers. Be aware that Kai is small with limited seating and parking. There is also a patio but it is too hot to dine outside. Reservations are recommended. Also, they are BYOB. We ordered edamame as a starter. They offer the standard salted and a very spicy version. We opted for the standard. Our sushi was fresh and they had Uni tonight which is one of my favorites. We did order a roll which was AOK. This was an excellent experience and we will return.

Yelp
We recently went Kai Sushi for my daughter's birthday. The sushi was great, and the service was absolutely fantastic! We really enjoyed our waitress. She did a lot to make my daughter's birthday special. The food was so good that my kids wanted to make sure I gave this place a five star review!

Yelp
It was good. Little expensive but it was good. Waitress kept on us to make sure everything was cool & good. She made a sashimi recommendation and it was good. Never had scallop before, but it was good. I'd come back. Nice &'quiet place

Yelp
Kai Sushi is an amazing spot! I can't believe I haven't been before. The restaurant is clean, minimal, and the waitress was welcoming and kind. As always, I test a sushi place by their chirashi bowl. Kai Sushi's chirashi don offers a great selection of fresh and well-garnished seafood. Bonus points for the shiso leaf and lime. The cuts are average in size but that's not to say they aren't filling; I shared many pieces because I was too full! Their sashimi/nigiri menu isn't huge, but it covers the major bases. I got the scallop nigiri and the texture was great. It came topped with some chili oil. I want to try their sake toro and ama ebi next time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Found my new local sushi place! Only thing is, if you want alchohol, it is "BYOB". So, I was a little sad they did not have Saki, but will rememeber for next time! We got there on a Friday night, and was getting more packed as we were eating. They do have outdoor seating as well, but weather was a little damp. Inside there was not that many tables, but had the sushi bar as well. We had a two person table in the middle. I am just happy they were playing "mellow" music, as a lot of sushi places think they have to play that "dance" music stuff! We know from previous experience what a great fish "Escolar" is. Saw on the appetizer section, "Chili Escolar" which came in a ponzu sauce...so good! Then, we got Sushi (4 pieces) and Nigiri (1 piece). Sushi, we knew we wanted the Fatty Salmon. Since other fishes we were not sure, we got the nigiri, since 1 piece. We got 1-Hamachi (Yellow tail), 1-Hirame (Flounder), but the best we got 1 each of was the Suzuki (Sea Bass). All, we will get again! (*forgot pics, as we ate them quickly)! Then, we went onto rolls. Now, I don't usually like Spicy Tuna, and my husband got those. I tried them and actually like them! He got the "Spicy Tatki Roll" and "The Mexican Roll". I got the " Jay's signature roll" and "Spider Roll". All was great! We will be back to try more!

Yelp
The greeting was lovely and the Mushroom Popper appetizer was out of the world!! I wasn't excited when my non sushi loving spouse ordered them but they were nothing like the poppers I've had before. We both raved about them! Hubs had teriyaki and it was fine. He missed out though because my Sumu roll was perfection.

Yelp
Absolutely loved Kai Sushi. I ordered a churashidon and fish quality was stellar, and I loved the apps. We got takoyaki and miso soup. Service was friendly and quick. Casual atmosphere with no wait on a Friday 5:30pm.

Yelp
Oh my.....We visited this restaurant several years ago when we moved here and I don't recall a lot of gluten free or modification options. Not anymore! I came here more than once this year and have been so pleasantly surprised. Being gluten free (or not) I highly recommend the spicy tuna crispy rice. Just the spicy tuna in the GF soy sauce is amazing! The Red Snow Roll might be my favorite roll. Regardless, there are quite a few gluten free items and menu 'add-ons' that don't make you feel you're being difficult adding items or customizing rolls. Also, BYOB! Bringing your own bottle of wine means to you can order more sushi! I'm so happy we have this gem in Leander!

Yelp
Very big menu, but felt like not a lot of variety for so many choices. The garlic edamane had a strange bitterness to it. Fish was fresh. Service was good. Servers were very friendly. Small place, but sufficient. Nice that they have cushions on the wood benches. Crispy rice spicy tuna was great, but portion seemed small for the price. Kids meal was also pricey. Could have included less food and been priced better.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch the other day for the first time and boy have I been missing out. My husband and I went in around 12:30 pm on a Wednesday and there were about 6 other people, so not too crowded. We were seated as soon as we walked in. They have a good variety of lunch specials and you can order off the regular menu as well. We started with edamame and I ordered the Atomic Bomb Roll ($13 deep fried spicy white fish, avocado inside and spicy mayo, eel sauce, green onion with sesame seeds on top. It was very good and very reasonably priced. The service was so efficient, we came in ordered ate and we were out. They had one server working all the tables but she did an amazing job. She was very attentive and quick on her feet. We will definitely be back. Note: They do not serve alcohol but I did see a sign our front that said BYOB.

David K.

Yelp
Had a sushi roll. The diameter of the roll was a bit oversized for one mouthful and rice was not sticky enough to hold ring together.

Yelp
Kai Sushi never disappoints. I enjoyed birthday lunch and devoured the When Beef Met the Sea Roll. It is SO GOOD. I dream about it, ha! Service is always wonderful. Although the location is slightly off putting, Kai Sushi is truly a gem!

Yelp
My husband and I just went here for the first time. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Let me start by saying the energy and ambiance when you entire is unlike any other sushi restaurant I've been too. Upscale and fancy yet family owned feel. We didn't know it was BYOB, so make sure you bring a bottle of your favorite wine, sake or liquor. Our server Jana was so sweet and provided excellent service. Everything and I mean everything she recommended was absolutely delightful. The o'toro and magoro tuna were out of this world. The ahi tower was sensational. The Godzilla roll has LOBSTER TEMPURA. I've never had that anywhere in all my life. The spicy tatami roll was to die for. Not to mention the 10 pieces of nigiri we ate - from octopus to snapper and everything in between. My husband told Jana to surprise him and she brought him the most delectable spicy scallop (hotate) hand roll. We went with the intention of trying it and ended up staying for a few hours. We had a fantastic time for an affordable price. We have a new favorite date night spot! Everything surpassed our expectations. Highly recommend. Will be going back soon.

Yelp
Enjoyed some light bites here. It was very fresh and delicious sushi. The "Oro" is flown in from Japan...of course more pricey, but my goodness...the best melt-in-your-mouth nigiri I've ever had. SO good. I loved the salmon as well. The service was amazing. The down side is no happy hour pricing and no alcohol. I understand, and I'll be back to try more sushi at lunch time...and will try some of their creative specialty rolls...but I'm definitely a happy hour gal. Just personal preference. ;)

Yelp
Having lived in Japan 30 years of my life, I always like to order Chirashi Don when I go to a new Japanese restaurant. It gives me a true look at the quality and flavors. OMG! Excellent Quality Rice and with awesome sushi seasoning. There was a VERY generous assortment of excellent quality seafood on top. So fresh and delicious. As a first time customer they added fresh quality wasabi from Hokkaido as a special treat. That can be added by special request. The atmosphere was pleasant with instrumental Christian hymns being quietly played in the background. The waitress was willing and able to explain the dishes on the menu. Very kind. I will be back again soon!

Yelp
Surprisingly high quality nigiri and sashimi. Perfect temperature, perfect rice, neatly presented and completely value for money. Super happy.
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
Fresh sushi. A great menu of different rolls to choose from. The service was excellent.

Good Customer C.

Yelp
just ok- too much fried food- sushi was not par with fresh. So so and I think they need to address smell in restaurant.
google avatar

Priscilla W.

Yelp
Quality and quantity! Every piece of fish we had was thick and fatty - nothing tasted fishy and everything was presented beautifully. My favorite is the ikura nigiri, they don't skimp on the ikura, and the flavor is on point. I've been to a lot of different sushi restaurants in the Austin area, but honestly this one now ranks the highest. Our waitress was so sweet, always making sure we were okay, and explaining what slices of fish we were being served. Can't wait to come again!

Yelp
Christmas Eve birthday BEST FINE. We stumbled upon this gem of a place sushi spot in Leander on Christmas Eve to have bday dinner. This was our first time trying and every single roll was fresh & tasty. We have tried few sushi spots in Cedar park & Leander and none of them can be compared to this. First that it's BYOB which is great. The staff were so nice and accommodating. It's a super clean place & doesn't smell fishy. We will for sure be coming back to this place since it's much closer to us than the places we like in central Austin.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Good food and a friendly staff. Take Pickup by CapMetro for a complete Leander experience!

Jen L.

Yelp
We've ordered many different sushi rolls and appetizers. Everything has been super delicious. This is our go to sushi place!
google avatar

Yelp
3 stars with the potential to be 4 stars. They have many roll options but the majority of the special rolls have fried tempura which I like but I tend to stay away from because it's not as healthy so I didn't have as many options under their special roll menu. Overall, the sushi was decent but nothing spectacular or out of this world to make it a 4 star rating for me. Tungi roll: 7/10 Aside from salmon sashimi, unagi is one of my favs in a sushi roll. I thought they'd put unagi on top, but it was inside the roll so there wasn't as much unagi that you could taste. Decent roll, but I'd try something else next time. Geisha roll: 9/10 Everything I love in a roll. It was good and I'd order again. While it could have potentially been a 4 star experience, a few things knocked it down. It was 100 degrees outside and it was unbearably freezing inside. I moved 3x to find a place I could stand to sit for a meal. It was so bad that normally, I get dessert and this time, I had to just get out after I finished my rolls. I ended up driving somewhere else for dessert. The waiter was a bit awkward too. He didn't talk to me much even though it was slow and he offered to turn off one of the fans, he never did. By the time I paid, that's when he started striking up conversation which was weird to me. I was freezing and just wanted out. Overall, not a bad place to go if you're in the area, but if you're looking for the best sushi, I wouldn't say this is the place.

Tammy L.

Yelp
Delicious sushi! Good quality. Kind, quick service. Clean environment. I keep coming back!! Would definitely recommend.

Gigliola C.

Yelp
Their food is always amazing and the servers are so nice. As usual do pickup but even then, they are always attentive, helping bring food to the car, etc. great food and great service.
google avatar

Alaina Ann O.

Yelp
Really good and fresh food. I see why they've been at this location for so long. The building/strip is not the most appealing from afar, but do not sleep on this place...they're GOOD. I'm from the west coast, and this sushi reminds me of home :)
google avatar

Natasha D.

Yelp
Outstanding service! Since moving to Leander over a year ago this is my go to for sushi! Sushi is always fresh and they are always on time with food and food is always hot. They even accommodate you if you need to pick up at a certain time. They even gave me free dumplings with my order for being a loyal customer
google avatar

Travis C.

Yelp
Sushi had really good flavor. However, the rolls weren't rolled tight which made the experience off a tad. Other than that... I will be back
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
Service was good but the fish was fishy. If you like a lot of fried stuff then this is your place. I'll be sticking with sushi fever though.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This place has really good sushi at a decent price. Although I think they could, step it up in the flavors dept., in the sushi a bit more. For instance the cream cheese is bland, some places it has a kick to it! They need some more items inside the sushi rolls that just have a pop in flavor. Place is always clean and staff is always nice.
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
If my son and daughter-in-law have a craving for Sushi, this is the place to go in Leander. First, the staff and chef really care about their service and remember their customers. The atmosphere is always welcoming and warm. Lastly, the food is incredible! The portions are plenty. My son brought home what they couldn't finish and now, I look forward to their next visit and hopefully, I will join them.
google avatar

Kevin A.

Yelp
Everything was very good from the Miso soup to the Salad to the Judy roll and several other items. They have lots of roll options and I'm looking forward to another visit to try something new. Also... beautiful holiday decor and great service.
google avatar

Alina S.

Yelp
Overall this place is decent and mostly tasty, but sometimes a little nasty. Maybe they have different chefs on certain days, but on the bad days the sushi tastes like what we've gotten from the grocery store, which is never very good. I got a salmon hand roll with added cucumber and masago, it was so delicious the first time. But the second time I ordered, the taste was off. The Caribbean roll was pretty good but very little filling and mostly rice. Mikey roll is good with some modifications. Geisha roll tasted pretty bad. The sushi rice had a weird flavor like old rice from a sushi roll that's been sitting in the grocery store deli all day. Mushroom poppers were the worst mushroom poppers I've ever had at any restaurant, I would not eat this again even if my life depended on it. I've had this at other restaurants and it has always been one of my favorites. It was also the reason I ordered here tonight because I was craving the appetizer in general.

Yelp
I really enjoy ordering from Kai. I have tried a lot of different items and I am impressed every time. I also appreciate how kind all the employees are.

Yelp
Wow! This place is amazing. Food, staff, cleanliness is awesome We recommend Kai Sushi. A++++++

Jody W.

Yelp
Amazing sushi restaurant!! Everything was very fresh and so yummy! The takoyaki was the best I've ever had and the crunch roll was the best! The ambiance was great and the place was very clean. Would recommend 100%!!! We will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a new place nearby to eat, and decided to try Kai Sushi this afternoon for lunch. The waitress was super nice, friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very clean, well organized, and had a nice ambiance. We had some of their lunch specials and they were delicious!!! My Bento Box was definitely enough for lunch: the Salmon Teriyaki was amazing, the salad, miso soup, dumplings and Atomic Sushi roll were all great! My wife had the Nigiri and California roll lunch and she loved it! The fish cuts were all fresh and very well prepared. We are so happy we decided to stop by - we will be coming back for dinner very soon!!!

Randi M.

Yelp
This is hands down the best sushi I've had in all of Austin. Worth the drive to Leander. Always clean and the service is always exceptional.

Yelp
Kai Sushi in Leander is a very good restaurant. Fresh sushi every time I've been there. Very cozy ambiance. Nice and friendly owner and his staff. As a world traveler, I have been to many sushi restaurants all around the world - including Japan. After moving to Austin, I have tried many in the area. This is one of my favorites!!!! Highly recommended.
