Great place to go for brunch! Haven't had the chance to go for dinner, but their Sunday brunch food is delicious!! You order via QR code at the table, but they will come over every once and a while to make sure you're still doing good or if you need anything else. They're super friendly! After we ordered, they brought out a variety of sauces/spices to use as we pleased. We shared the crab omelette rice, the khao piak sen, and the Japanese pancake/okonomiyaki family style, and we all agreed it was really good. Highly recommend trying out a dessert and a drink too! We all had hot Thai milk teas, a longan drink, and the Thai coconut creme brulee. Definitely recommend! Will come back eventually to try their other entrees.

Oh my GOD where do I start? We came here on a chilly Saturday morning when Kai Yang had just opened so it was just the two of us. The space was super cute with a full bar and some tv’s if you want to catch a game and a cheeky drink. Service was attentive, friendly, and quick! We started off with some Thai coffees to warm us up, and ordered the Kai Kata, Crab Omelette, and Som Tum Khao-pod (corn papaya salad). Everything hit the spot and tasted amazing. I’ll definitely be coming back many times with different people so I can try all the things!

Google
Kai Yang is a true gem for those seeking a delectable dining experience with authentic Thai flavors. The standout dishes, such as the crab fried rice, crab omelette, and chicken katsu sando, are a testament to their culinary prowess. The crab fried rice is a delightful blend of fragrant rice and succulent crab meat, with each grain perfectly cooked to create a harmonious balance of textures and flavors. The crab omelette, on the other hand, showcases the freshness of its ingredients, with generous chunks of crab meat encased within a fluffy, golden-brown omelette that is sure to impress. As for the chicken katsu sando, it is a sumptuous sandwich that combines the crunch of crispy chicken and the softness of milk bread, resulting in a satisfying bite every time.

Google
Loved this for brunch, definitely ask for the spicy chili oil. --- drinks --- Koppi coffee ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - not too sweet - perfectly creamy --- brunch food --- Crab omelette ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - the crab was juicy and flavorful - loved this with chili oil - bed of rice underneath Khao piak sen ⭐⭐⭐ - loved the texture of the noodles - the meat is not for me but my partner loved it Goong Chae Nam-Pla ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - really juicy and loved the sauce - the shrimp is raw, so if that's off-putting to you, don't get it Japanese pancake ⭐⭐⭐ - too saucy for me, wish it was more crisp - was fixed by chili oil --- all day --- Khao soi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - loved this with hot chili oil - the braised beef was the move - note some of the pickles are really sour Meat salad beef ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - so good, would get it at the hottest spice level - and order this with Osaka fries Osaka fries ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - so perfectly crispy - love the sauce, it isn't too much

One of the only places in the area open for Thanksgiving so we decided to check it out. The atmosphere was great, service was good, but the food was mediocre. It wasn’t bad just wasn’t very flavorful. We left feeling underwhelmed and wouldn’t see ourselves returning.

Google
The best spot for Mookata (Thai BBQ) in Portland—actually, the only one in town! It’s super authentic, something I’ve been craving for years. Feels like a little taste of home. The vibe is perfect too, especially with the cool October breeze and the last bit of sunshine while you enjoy some BBQ. We ordered a set of 5 skewers too, but they were so good we totally forgot to take any pictures!

Google
I have no idea how this restaurant is rated so high. The atmosphere is nice but the food is bad. We went for brunch. The chicken was dry. The waffle was good enough. The okonomiyaki I got was horrible. It was lacking cabbage, lukewarm, and totally doughy in the middle. I would not go back and I wouldn’t recommend this place to my friends.

Yelp
Despite the bad reviews of bland food, I stopped by with friends to try a few dishes. The skewers were all delicious. Nice char and balance of meat and gristle. Seasoning was sweet. Pork belly, Gizzards , hearts, chicken thigh were all good options. Liver was funky but that just liver. Service was great and attentive. Crab fried rice and beef eggplant stir fry were familiar but nuanced. The taste wasn't overly sweet spicy or salty as you get at other Thai restaurants. Interior was cozy. The Christmas decor was very festive. One of the bathrooms had a horribly designed door that swings open close to the edge of the toilet bowl. Sad to hear this place has closed. Had a lot of potential. The bbq skewers were a new taste. There's no (Japanese style charcoal grilled) yakiniku skewers in portland so this was the next best thing.

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch because I kept seeing videos and pictures of this place, so I had to check it out! First thing to note is that we were told to find a place to sit and the menus would follow. We chose a table, but the table was sticky. We asked if it could just be wiped down and were recommended we moved, so we did. Not sure why as it wasn't busy, but we obliged. Then we were asked if it was our first time there and since it was they gave us the run down of how things work: you scan the QR code on the table to order your food. Below the QR code it does say to pay at the cashier(?) but we were able to pay on our phone, so not sure what that meant. The place is super cute inside! Walking in you are greeted and as soon as you walk around the corner there are tables with velvety chairs. I personally wasn't a big fan, due to cleanliness. Not sure how the chairs are properly cleaned. I'm not sure if it was just a not-so-great day but the food was mid. The presentation looked better than it tasted. We were so excited to try their chicken and waffles, but our chicken was barley warm and the waffle was not crunchy (it felt like a frozen waffle that is left out to defrost, almost soggy). The Japanese pancake was good, but I think the amount on the plate is a bit much for my personal preference, only because the texture and taste is the same with every bite and it almost just becomes monotonous. We also ordered a couple beverages, a Thai iced tea and the kopi coffee (50% sweet). The Thai iced tea was nothing special, it was okay. The kopi coffee was new to me so I asked how sweet it was and was told it is very sweet so I decided to go with 50% sweet.....mmm, it wasn't sweet at all. I will say I like my drinks on the sweeter side so I was a little disappointed that I didn't just go with my gut and kept it with the regular sweetness. I will say the place started filling up after we arrived so it must be a popular place. We just didn't feel like it exceeded our expectations, unfortunately.

Yelp
We came here to try out the bbq and soup in one. We also had a noodle soup and crab fried rice. They were all good, I would eat again, but not the most memorable in a city of abundant Thai food optios Order through the QR code. Street parking.

Yelp
I was hungry for a light brunch and decided to try Kai Yang for their brunch offering with an Asian twist. When I arrived, the server was quick to sseat me in the back and went over the menu with me and gave me the run down of what's good. They recommended the crab omelet, but it looked like a lot more food than I was craving. Once I was ready to order, I scanned the QR code at the table and ordered through Toast. I ordered the Kai Kata and a side of roti. The Kai Kata is a simple dish of ground pork, pork strips and Vietnamese sausage over 3 over easy eggs. I really enjoyed this dish as it was exactly what I was craving this morning. Though the flavor was light, they offered ketchup and seasoning sauce to enhance the dish. I have not seen this dish offered anywhere else. I realized ai didn't need the roti after I ordered, but it was comparable to other roti I've had at other locations. Overall, I will come back to try their other dishes.

Yelp
Swung by Kai Yang with a friend for brunch and loved how cozy and warm it was! Personally for me, it's a 3/5 but if you are an omnivore then you will likely like this place more! The reason I say this is because the menu is essentially 99% meat and fish based. If there isn't meat in the description there is almost certainly either fish sauce or dried shrimp. I was able to have order exactly 1 brunch item -- the kai yang waffles and they were yummy! Light and airy with a mild pandan taste. It was tasty but I was a bit sad that I couldn't eat anything else on the menu. There were a couple desserts as well but didn't exactly want dessert for brunch. My friend, the omnivore, did get the chicken katsu sandwich which was HUGE btw and came with a ton of fries (which I did steal a couple of). She enjoyed the sandwich and to be fair, tables around us seemed to enjoy the other offerings. The thai teas also look scrumptious by far. Prices are fair for what you get and it's a hybrid service aka you order through a QR code to your table and servers drop things off. Parking in the area can be hard at times if you go during peak hours. All in all, cute spot that is a good addition to the Portland food scene; however, I don't recommend this for vegetarian/vegan/plant based friends.

Yelp
I was thrilled to see an ad on Instagram for papaya salad, chicken, AND sticky rice in one dish. I've been looking for this exact combo for a long time. Thankfully, it was my pick for date that upcoming Saturday, so I knew where we were going. Ordering online was a breeze. I was excited to see I could specify how hot you want your som tum. I chose hot, and then I even wrote a note saying to please make it Thai spicy. If you know anything about this salad, it's flipping hot if you make it Thai spicy. It's hotter than the spiciest wings you've ever eaten. Delicious and just the way I like it. I was so excited for it! But when we got home, it was mild, at best. Very little heat. The flavor was good, but I was wanting that kick. My partner ordered the pad Thai. It was actually pretty tasty. I don't order it in the US because it usually just tastes like Heinz ketchup, but not this one! It tasted similar to what you'd get in the streets of BKK. I'm interested in trying their moo kata, so I'm sure I'll be back. I just hope I can get it Thai spicy next time! Service was nice and easy upon pickup too!

Yelp
Going into dinner at Kai Yang, I have to be honest, I wasn't sure how this new spot would be different than other Thai spots around town. There's so many Thai restaurants around town, most of them being super authentic and delicious, I was curious how this would stack up. Now I only got two dishes this night, but WOW was I impressed. We got the Pad Thai and the Crying Tiger Combo. When the Pad Thai came out, I was a little suspicious, because the noodles weren't typically Pad Thai noodles. Instead, they were more like vermicelli noodles, and the color was super, super light. In my first bite, I made sure to get everything - the noodles, some egg, tofu, and bean sprouts. I was so surprised when the bite exploded with flavor! The dish was not too wet or too dry, it was perfect. The tofu was perfectly cooked as well, and I liked the shaved egg as a topping. I don't really know how else to describe the flavor, but it was spot on, with a nice amount of spice. The Crying Tiger combo comes with 8oz of grilled ribeye steak, your choice of papaya salad, and stick rice. The steak was amazing - perfect amount of char, fat, juices and seasoning, it practically melted in my mouth. We chose the Som Tum Khao-Pod for our papaya salad that came with sweet corn , papaya, peanuts, long bean, cherry tomato, lime, and dried shrimp. This was great, I loved the corn, and the sauce/dressing mixed in was nice and tangy. Those Thai chilis mixed in are HOT though, so watch out. Sticky rice is always good too, it went well with both the steak and papaya salad. Service was spot-on too, very nice hospitality. It wasn't crowded at all when we came on a Friday around 6:30PM. I do feel like the price is pretty good for the amount that you get too! I can't wait to come back for their brunch!

Yelp
One of the only places in the area open for Thanksgiving so we decided to check it out. The atmosphere was great, service was good, but the food was mediocre. It wasn't bad just wasn't very flavorful. We left feeling underwhelmed and wouldn't see ourselves returning.

Yelp
Decent Thai-fusion brunch spot! Service was slow and spotty but they might get better with time. I enjoyed their Kor Moo Yang and Khao Piek Sen quite a bit. Very flavorful and authentic. The Okonomiyaki was alright. Fried Chicken and Waffle were crispy though!

Yelp
We came by on a Sunday just before noon. It wasn't busy upon arrival but picked up by the time we left. On a nice day, it was great having brunch outside. We noticed a nice inviting room in the back with additional seating too. We ordered the Kao Piak Sen, Crab Omelette, and Kai Kata. Delicious and listed from best to still good. The noodles in the Khao Piak Sen are amazing, fresh and chewy! Nice bounce. Check them out!

Yelp
I have to admit my friend picked Kai Yang for brunch and I may have missed this gem if I would've been left to my own selections. I was so pleasantly surprised by the hospitable service and tasty food. We shared the Thai chicken and waffle and the crab omelette. They were both fantastic and it would be hard to say which one was better. There was limited indoor seating however we showed up when they opened and I suspect this location for brunch is still a secret. The food was worthy of the long Portland brunch line, but I'm sure glad there wasn't one.

Yelp
After seeing how this was supposedly a Thai BBQ place, I had to go! Unfortunately, I didn't know that if you wanted to do the BBQ then you had to had to go after 3pm. Instead, I came for brunch. Nonetheless, I had a great time! Service was very patient, but also very quick. You order using a QR code on your phone, so it's very convenient. The inside of the restaurant is cozy and I sat in the back section, where the decor was a bit more woody and warm with a fireplace. Their menu has a pretty broad selection of classic brunch items, Thai dishes, and fun drinks. I ordered their steamed dumplings, crab omelette, nam tok, and kor moo yang with papaya salad for savory dishes and their taro roti and Thai coconut creme brulee for a sweet treat after. Everything was delicious. The steamed dumplings came with a phenomenal sauce that added so much flavor and complimented the dish very well. The crab omelette was filled with thick pieces of crab and a huge portion. The nam tok was saucy and flavorful. The kor moo yang had great cuts of pork and the sauce was *chef's kiss* (although I would say that their sticky rice was a bit hard/dry here and the papaya salad was VERY spicy). And, both sweet treats were delicious. Overall, I had a great time at brunch here and would love to come back for their dinner service and BBQ!

Yelp
Am I meant to pay a premium for a unique menu? I can't imagine anything else justifies the cost.

Daniel N.

Yelp
Quick and great service. Food was Thai brunch which was very unique. Lots of new flavors and dishes that I have never tried. Vibes were good.

Yelp
Wow, just wow. Crab omlette is a simple, comforting show stopper. Generous portions and flavorful chunks of lump crab and ooey- gooey egg. Pad thai- perfection. Service is attentive and friendly. THIS place is SOOOOO good. So, So SO SO SO good. Get the crab omlette people.

Shoko P.

Yelp
Yes, it was a cozy place and the food was good. Just remember that one order of BBQ comes only one skewer, not two.

Kelsey D.

Yelp
Love the innovation this place brings. The fried spring rolls were excellent. When the menu says fried spring rolls I didn't appreciate that it wouldn't be the typical crunchy fried spring roll, it's closer to the classic Thai spring roll, but fried. Also the Khao Piak Sen soup was excellent. The broth is delicious and in my opinion they undersell their homemade noodles because that is definitely the star of this dish. They held the same satisfying mouthfeel as a homemade egg noodle (like homemade chicken noodle soup) except the Asian version. I also added the chicken feet for novelty and because it was only $3. I only expected two for that price, but was surprised to get 3. I've only tried chicken feet a couple of occasions at Dim sum and it's generally only ok, but they were actually quite good in this because they absorb the flavor of the broth so well. The Kopi coffee was a little too sweet for my liking, but perhaps that's more traditional. Offering a less sweet version might be nice. My husband had the chicken and waffles, which he enjoyed.
