"Following something of the philosophy of traditional Japanese izakayas, this restaurant, located on the ground floor of a residential building on the outskirts of the historic centre, revolves entirely around a large, U-shaped sushi counter that can seat 16 diners. What is found here? An intriguing Japanese-Portuguese fusion cuisine, with à la carte options (there are even dishes to share) and a solid omakase menu based on the best ingredients of the day. The atmosphere is welcoming and the flavours are surprising!" - Michelin Inspector

Phenomenal! Definitely do the tasting menu - it balances out the different flavours perfectly. The service was also highly attentive, professional and they carefully explained each dish. The restaurant is also beautiful- feels like you’re in Japan.

Kaigi is my absolute favorite place to eat in all of Porto. Consistency is key and they nail it every. single. time! The dishes rotate to highlight the seasonal availability so dining here is always a unique experience. Be sure to ask for the Hokkaido Roll. It's a little secret item that you won't regret!

I had one of the best experiences in Porto at this restaurant! Picking a brand new place to celebrate our anniversary was like playing Russian Roulette, but we lucked out with an amazing restaurant! The stylish square design of the ambience, along with the beautifully presented bowls and dishes, created a wonderful atmosphere. However, the background street rap music didn't seem to match the style. The service was excellent and up to par, which really added to the overall experience. We decided to try the omakase experience, where we left it up to the chef to choose and prepare our dishes. It was truly something special! The chef asked us about our preferences and then prepared meals that blew us away. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to return!

We had such a nice experience at Kaigi! At first I was hesitant to go with Omakase and I am so glad that I did! All the dishes were amazing but I was blown away by the dessert. The service was very attentive, professional and friendly at the same time. They made us feel at home. The decor and the music were very pleasant too. I am so glad that this restaurant is in our neighbourhood, will definitely go back soon! Edit as of July 2024: We visited Kaigi quite a few times after my initial review, we brought in multiple friends as well. Our experience has always been great, the food consistently good and all of our guests thanked us for introducing them to Kaigi. Some even joined us for a second time already.

We ordered the omakase which was 9 dishes plus dessert. Their concept is a fusion of Japanese and portuguese ingredients and techniques. Which makes each explanation a bit longer than usual, but it's the kind of sushi that you won't experience anywhere else! Every piece was carefully made and explained and for the most part was delicious! The only tiny complaint that I remember was that the salmon piece had too many fish eggs, which made it a bit too salty. Otherwise everything else was very good! Luckily one of the last dishes included bread which filled us up. The dessert was also pretty good! Definitely recommend a visit and please make a reservation as they only have very few seats!

This was our second time at Kiagi. This time we tried the Omakase menu which is a fusion of Japanese cuisine with some seasonal local Portugal ingredients and flavours to substitute or enhance the traditional Japanese approach. All in all, very well executed menu with a solid understanding of blending unique tastes, textures, temperatures. The sushi rice is also spot on!

A bit out of the city centre, but such a gem! Great and delicious omakase experience with Portuguese influences. Highly recommend!

The overall experience is ok, but there's a lot to improve. After going to similar restaurants (i.e. Omakase Ri in Lisbon) or even comparing it with real Izakayas in Japan, I have to confess they have a lot to do in terms of receiving guest, turning the meal into an experience, keep the environment (sushimans talk loudly to the costumers they are serving at a specific moment) and maintain food rounds in a carrousel of flavours that starts smooth and end up blowing minds. I find the 65euros menu price acceptable, but probably i would get out hangry if they wouldn't had served bread along with the last course before desert - furthermore, at the initial approach in the restaurant they talk a lot about such a bread, elevating the expectations, but it end ups being a bit of a disapointment. I also have to say their kind of Izakaya was overall really good as they manage quite well the "spicy" and "salty" flavours that are not so common in Japanese cousine. Congrats for the innovation but please revise house rules and guest service. Cheers
