The 28 Best Restaurants in Quebec City, Canada | Eater

"Kaiji is more than fine Japanese cuisine. Chef Phong Thach, who learned the art of sushi from experts at Kaizen sushi bar in Montreal, deconstructs and elevates the dish like no other. Every menu item is as colorful as it is delicious, showcasing truly unexpected flavor combinations like white truffle and fruit." - Allison Van Rassel

Came here after hearing amazing reviews and was incredibly disappointed. To start, the chef was not here so there was not an omakase menu. Then we ordered the salmon sashimi and the salmon fish quality was so horrible, the fish was hard, tasted off, and it had its skin. The sauces on the plate were good but NOT truffle as advertised. Then the edamame came from a frozen bag and the chef cooked it in the same wok as the meat, shrimp, and chicken. Horrible because my partner is pescatarian and this could be dangerous with allergies. The waitress was nice but overall the service was incredibly slow, the drinks were mid (did not have sake which was sad). Going into the restaurant itself, the concept is interesting but badly organized. One host to bring people to the table is inefficient. Next for a omakase restaurant that’s meant to be high quality and with expensive prices ($25 avg per dish) it should not be in a food court mall setting. The sushi rolls themselves (5-6 pieces) were good because of the sauces, pretty, but flavorless. When a fish is high quality, the fish speaks for itself and in this case the quality was low.

It was my husband's birthday. We had a fantastic night. We were lucky that the chef served the food and completely described how the dishes were made. We just ordered discovery menu which was 90 CAD per person. Also we had a very good sake with our food. The food was presented in 5 plates. For 2 of us with tax and 20% tip the bill was 350 CAD.

I had the tasting menu and with no hesitation I suggest to do the same! Fresh food, new flavors and all of it nicely plated. Cocktail and sake were not too overpriced. I'm looking at my picture and trying to find a plate that was better than others and I just can't find it. You will have to make your own findings 😊 I can remember one was with truffles and it was the party in my mouth! I'll be back soon!

To date, it's the best sushi I've enjoyed in Québec City, with fresh, succulent cuts of fish and seafood and creatively constructed rolls. The Izakaya options we tried - tuna tataki and chicken katsu - were also delicious. The sake and dessert options are excellent, as was the service. Highly recommended!

I went to this restaurant with my wife on my birthday and I had an amazing time. We were lucky to be served by the chef himself cause a waiter was absent that evening. We both ordered the Omakaze experience which included four different plates, but we got a fifth plate for dessert which was the chef's birthday gift to me. AlI the plates were delicious, well balanced in terms of texture and taste and made with high quality fresh ingredients. The sashimi (2nd plate) had a japanese fish according to the chef's explanation which I found its taste very unique and pleasant. For each serving, the chef explained to us a bit about the ingredients and the way they are prepared to shape the whole plate which I found interesting since I love to cook myself. The only thing I didn't like was the music which was a bit too loud and made it hard for me to hear the chef's explanation for the dishes. Altogether, it was a memorable evening for us thanks to chef Thach.

I came here on saturday for my husbands birthday dinner. We had reservations for 6pm, and arrived at 5:50pm. We both ordered the omakase (90$) at 6:00pm. We waited with no start in sight until 6:43 when the waiter told us he was so sorry for the wait; and it was due to a mix up in their online order system, but our meal would be served in “3minutes” and then the rest of the meals would arrive quickly after that. We waited another 10 minutes with nothing, but now it’s been over an hour since we arrived at the restaurant, and absolutely nothing. We noticed the couple that arrived after us that behind us had already been served. We had reservations for a birthday activity at 7:30 and we now told the restaurant if you don’t think you can deliver the meal to us with enough time for us to eat it before then, we will be leaving. They said they cannot serve the meal in that time, despite earlier saying it would be served in “3 mins”. So we left. Although an online order mishap is understandable, leaving your customers that are dining in stranded, with nothing is mot excusable for a restaurant with this price tag. This was ridiculous, we would have spent over 250$ here, and weren’t served anything in the end. Especially with an omakase, you should be balancing your dining patients with online. Serve us the amuse buche first so that we can get started while you’re dealing with the online order mishap. But this level of inadequacy is inexcusable and laughable to be honest. There are so many better restaurants out there in this price range that will serve you better with amazing food, i don’t know why anyone would dine here.

Yelp
Stopped by in Quebec City for dinner and was impressed for the most part. The restaurant itself is beautiful and is inside part of a larger upscale food hall. We ordered the Omakase which included an incredible small plate that involved sweet potato puree and I can't remember what else (but it was delicious and I wanted to lick the plate), a beautifully plated sashimi course (the scallops and shrimp were unreal and among the best sashimi I've ever had), a nigiri course that included one piece topped with foie gras, which was insanely good and a brilliant French-Canadian twist, and a hot dish centered on smoked duck which was also delicious. The omakase finished with two different sushi rolls, both of which were good if not the same level as the dishes that came before. Our waiter Julien was also a highlight of the night. He was very friendly and attentive and had fantastic wine recommendations. As my French is very limited he was great and accommodated us with English. The service here is most definitely 5 stars thanks to Julien. The only misfire of the night was the dessert - a Japanese cheesecake with yuzu topping. The texture was horrible - more akin to stale bread than any cheesecake I have had before - and the yuzu flavor quite overpowering. We could not finish this and would not recommend it. Because of the incredible sashimi I would highly recommend this restaurant and the omakase was certainly varied and filling if that is your thing. And ask for Julien for great service. I would just recommend going elsewhere for dessert.
