I'm actually sulking right now because I heard about their wonderful happy hour specials AFTER the fact. Don't you hate that? Oh well, I was ravenous after a full day of hibernation, so there was no way I could wait until 4:30 p.m. anyways, even if it would have cost half as much.
The layout is veritably awe-inspiring. They don't skimp on aesthetics here. Very trendy, very swank, and the dim-lit surroundings would make this place a perfect date-night spot. The sleek bar area is equipped with comfy plush highback chairs and a couple of tvs. What was most impressive were their hibachi tables, so elegant and welcoming with the encompassing lights on the eating area. Faith and I weren't in the market for hibachi, however, so we opted for a table near the bar.
Fighting off a cold, I ordered the won ton soup with high hopes that I could indulge in some meaty brothy goodness. The won tons were amazing, delectable bites of perectly seasoned pork. My only gripe is that I wish there was an entrée version of this available, as there was only a meager serving of broth, as delicious and savory as it was. There wasn't enough to even cover the won tons, so that was a bit of a let down.
We ordered the Malaysian Roti just out of curiosity to see if they were anywhere as good as the ones at Hawkers. Hmmm....they were good...tasty...but not highly addictive and as lively as Hawkers version.
The pan fried pork dumplings were a hit, accompanied by a sweetened soy sauce. They were seasoned in the same fashion as the won tons in my soup, with savory notes of garlic and ginger.
I ordered the Sweet Potato Roll and the Chicken Tempura Roll, and Faith had the Eel and Avocado Roll. Honestly, I found the sushi a tad underwhelming, with 8 modestly sized cubes to a serving. The flavors and textures were on point, but barely tickled the tastebuds, with each bite being so small.
Next time I'll definitely come in for the popular hibachi experience, as other patrons seemed to be enjoying it while we were there, and, of course, the happy hour. Service was prompt and hospitable although I could have used a drink refill during the meal. It's forgiveable, seeing as how we arrived there at the start of the Riverside lunch rush. Till next time, my fellow Yelpers, support your local eats and businesses, and as always, SYOY!
