Best Eastern European Food From San Diego Restaurants and Delis | Eater San Diego

"This Ocean Beach restaurant, with indoor and outdoor tables, serves German standards like pretzels, spätzle, sausages, and a long list of German (and other) beers and wines. But some of its offerings — particularly, the sauerkraut and schnitzel — are also common across Eastern Europe. Don’t miss the Hungarian goulash and chicken paprika."

Our server was a beautiful lady with a great personality. She gave great info about the items on the menu to help our decisions. We got the Brussels, beet salad, and the Keizer roll kraut brat items with choice of side. We got the German potato salad! Ok the beet salad had two types of beets, purple and light yellow. So delicious plus blue cheese crumble cheese. It’s huge and our server gave us a warning which helped because we split it. Then we both ordered the same lunch item. The braut paired well with the open faced Kaiser roll. It gave a light sweet flavor and matched the potato salad well. I absolutely love German potato salad. Happy to have came and we came right at noon so there wasn’t a huge crowd. On our way out it looked like the beer garden was being sat a lot. I definitely would recommend this place and will come back.

Had a fantastic lunch at Kaiserhof Restaurant in San Diego! The atmosphere felt like a cozy German tavern — warm, inviting, and family-friendly. We ordered the escargot, Salat Schüssel, 🌭 Wurstplatte, and 🍖 roasted pork shank. Everything was flavorful and generously portioned. The pork shank was crispy on the outside, juicy inside — a bit fatty, but perfectly balanced with sauerkraut and red cabbage. Their warm bread basket was a nice touch, and the kids loved it too! 🍞 🍺 My favorite? The 1L Hofbräu Lager — crisp, malty, and made me feel like I was at Oktoberfest. Would definitely come back for more authentic German comfort food!

I’m from Europe and was craving a proper schnitzel. Instead, I ended up paying $30 for crumbs, literally. The meat was so thin you could barely even tell there was veal under all that breading. I’ve never eaten anything this bad in my life. Where’s the meat?? I even took it to go just to show my partner because he wouldn’t have believed it. This owner wouldn’t survive a month in any European country. I also brought a friend with me and honestly felt embarrassed for even recommending this place

I visited this place on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. I had previously asked a co-worker if he knew of any Slavic restaurants I could try, and he recommended this one. It took me two years to finally make my way here, but it was definitely worth it. Since I live all the way in Encinitas and rarely find myself in this area, I decided to make the trip. I tried several different dishes, along with two of their most popular beers. The first thing I ordered was the Potato Pancakes, which came with three pancakes, bacon, apple sauce, and a side dish—I chose the German Potatoes. These were excellent! I’ve had potato pancakes at a few places in San Diego, but these were my favorite. They were cooked perfectly. The Currywurst was also delicious. It came with potatoes and, while I’m not a huge fan of curry, the flavor wasn’t overpowering. My favorite dish, however, was the Beef Goulash. It was served in a flavorful onion and tomato sauce that was absolutely amazing. I saved a good portion to take to work the next day. I’ll definitely order that again when I return—the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. The last thing I tried was a simple Bratwurst on a roll, which was also really good. The roll was soft with a nice crisp on the outside—not hard at all. Overall, I loved this place and will definitely be coming back again!

We came in for dinner while we were in the area. What a nice restaurant in what might have been a house previously. There was two rooms for inside dining with German decorations and fireplaces. There is also a cute outdoor covered patio. They have a good selection of beer and a big food menu. The prices were budget friendly for dining out these days. I had their grilled lamb chops for dinner and liked it. It was juicy. The sides and complimentary bread rolls were good too. The waitress we had wasn't so friendly though. It took a long time for our orders to be taken and food to come to the table.

We parked in their very large parking lot and walked around the front to enter. We were greeted by a very friendly buxom hostess/server who showed us to our table. Many of the servers wear a traditional German beer garden dress that displays their ample attributes. Our server was equally endowed as the hostess and I realized how extremely inked up they were. Both could not have been nicer or more efficient. My wife ordered a Merlot and I ordered a Double Bock beer. We enjoyed both. We ordered the Jaegerschnitzel with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. I have had this many times and it’s basically a breaded and fried veal chop with a mushroom gravy. This veal was not breaded so it was not as crispy and didn’t grab the sauce properly. Potato and cabbage were very good. We did not order dessert. I wonder if they would allow me to order the breaded chop with the mushroom gravy. Otherwise I’m not going back. They were fairly busy.

We have been here many times. The food service and atmosphere is always excellent. Tonight I tried the mini schnitzel and it was incredible. Reuben our waiter was so great and he made the whole experience extra special. He even made gave us our desert mit Schlag. Ask him for a good laugh!!! This place is the best German Food place in all of San Diego County!!!

Google
Food 2/5, service 2/5, atmosphere 5/5 Decided to go here for our anniversary lunch and left very disappointed. We came here specifically to try the Schweinehaxe (Large crispy roasted pork shank) and we were happy when the waitress said we can order it for lunch, but were disappointed with both the taste and textures of the dish. We have had it many times in Europe and this was by far the worst we’ve ever had (and the most expensive). The meat was dry, had no flavor, and the outside was crispy but way too oily. We got a side of beef goulash, and that was tasty, as well as the dumplings, which were more of like a dough that you dip in meat sauce, kind of gooey, but tasty. Service 2/5 Our server was nice and funny, but came around once every new moon, complaining about how busy she was every time. She forgot to bring us a beer we have ordered and our water and soda refills took 20 minutes to be delivered. It seems like the place was severely understaffed on a Saturday afternoon, hopefully it is only an isolated event. The place wasn’t full of people when we were there, we only saw a handful of tables around. The place was super cute, clean and traditional and the ambiance was great. The staff are wearing traditional Bavarian outfits and the beers are super cold and heavenly tasting. If I ever come back here, which I doubt, I would try the schnitzel.

Yelp
I took my German girlfriend here a while ago as a surprise for Valentine's Day, and it was fantastic. The staff were exemplary, the food was phenomenal, and the beer was perfect. The ambiance reminded her of home (Berlin). It's on the pricey side, but the quality of food felt like it was worth it. Definitely great for special occasions. This is my first review, I generally don't write reviews, but this one was so good, I had to.

Yelp
I went to Germany this past year for Oktoberfest and ever since then I've been craving a nice German meal. Especially a crispy pork knuckle. Kaiserhof definitely filled that craving! The pork shank was SO crispy and could easily feed 2-3 people. And that gravy it came with.. I could have drank it on its own. We also ordered the wenier schnitzel which was pretty good as well but it wasn't crispy enough for me. It also was a little bland. Each entree came with two sides so we ordered the mashed potatoes, onion rings, sauerkraut and German fries (basically pan fried potatoes). The sides were mediocre and nothing to really rave about. We ended the meal with the apple strudel which was so fresh and decadent. This restaurant took me back to the little German restaurants we visited in Germany. The decor, the set up, the beer, everything! Our server Reuben also elevated our visit as well. Id recommend this place for sure!

Yelp
I often visited Kaiserhof growing up with my grandparents, and recently returned for the first time in years. The food was excellent and authentic to what I've had in Germany. The portions are generous and there's also a great selection of beers. Their outdoor area is fun and festive. Great service too. All around fun place!

Yelp
First time here in a reccomondation of a friend. Greeted warmly and seated immediately. Overall, the night was very nice. The atmos was enjoyable, but the service seemed a bit rushed. Maybe they were short handed or something. Nothing bad, just felt a bit too quickly taken care of. The food was very good. The tarargon chicken was tasty and my Rueben sandwich was excellent. My dining partner said the apple streudel was also excellent and the one bite I had was tasty. Overall... a lovely meal. Came in at $109 for two hi h included an appetizer and my dining partner had a beer so not too bad on pricing. I will be happy to go back.

Yelp
I would give it 2 1/2 stars if I could, but I'm going to stick with two. Loki g for German food in SD. This was the closest place that offered it. The staff did hustle to try and keep up with a large group but they were overwhelmed. Three of us went and all of our food was overcooked. The worst part was that when I cut into the knockwurst-- there was a thick black hair in it. They apologized and offered to bring another. No thanks. Also, quite a few flies when seated outside.

Yelp
Okay, so I don't have blond hair and blue eyes, but I ordered well enough. The appetizer was Kasepatzler and the entree was the Veal Wiener Schnitzel. 30 Minutes later, there was still no appetizer, and two four-tops were seated and enjoying their food. I was relegated to a warm roll with rock-hard butter. And please spare me the "We lost your ticket" rouintine. Thats just a lot of malarkey, everyone knows Germans don't make mistakes this was intentional. Guess they do not need my $50.00, but others are welcome to eat. So I split.

Yelp
Yes they have a private parking lot. Well informed and attentive staff in a clean charming location. Our dishes were served straight forward aka nothing fancy pants, generous, each were fresh and very well prepared

Yelp
Super authentic German experience! I highly recommend this place--great ambience and a perfect spot for dining or enjoying Germany's finest ales. Clair is awesome and such a genuinely great person. Truly appreciate the service!

Yelp
BRAVO!!!!! THE DESERVE THE #1 SPOT When you hear things like the best or greatest food of its kind, I don't take that lightly and most times I feel who ever is telling me this is just being bias! So already this place wasn't in the best position to win. First the person who told me doesn't have a good track record and two it's hard to be the best period. I looked at the menu on line and even tho I wasn't familiar with most German meals, the description of the food intrigued me because of the combination of ingredients like "beef steak in ginger sauce" it's things like that that make me say humm this place may be offering something more than normal. And was I right or was I right(well the READER SD WAS RIGHT FIRST) this place may be the best German restaurant in San Diego (I don't know if any other ones haha) but they win because 2 things COSTUMES AND PIZZA!! I know your like what?!? But yes this place serves a "FLAMMKUCHEN" which is basically a thin crust pizza with Bacon, onions and Herb Crème Friche(first off WTH is FICHE) honestly I don't care the ingredients should be called "it doesn't matter it's delicious so be quite" but to top it off all you food is served by someone in a traditional German outfit out of a fair tail with an authentic accent! What more can you ask!! Ok enough... of my rant about this flatbread pizza but we had 2 other dishes that were very tasty plus the apple pie and ice cream! But I feel like I could have picked anything and been just as satisfied! We Love kaiserhof!!!!!! (Better pizza than most pizza spots)

Yelp
Nestled in an intriguing interior reminiscent of a cozy home, Kaiserhof restaurant exudes a unique charm. Though slightly cramped in areas, the functional space offers a welcoming ambiance. The highlight is undoubtedly the spacious beer garden outside, perfect for enjoying a laid-back meal. Service, however, leaves something to be desired. Despite the friendly staff, the restaurant often feels understaffed, leading to longer-than-desired wait times for seating. It appears deliberate, perhaps to manage the kitchen's pace, but it does test patrons' patience. Turning to the menu, the food receives mixed reviews. While the large pretzel delights with its tender, chewy texture and accompanied by delectable mustard and beer cheese, other dishes fall short. The currywurst disappoints with an overly sweet and tomato-forward sauce, while the sausage platter, typical of German cuisine, lacks flavor. The pork schnitzel, though generously portioned and well-fried, suffers from a lack of seasoning, requiring a dash of lemon, salt, and pepper to elevate its taste. Overall, Kaiserhof offers a decent dining experience, but there's room for improvement in both service and flavor profiles. Will I be back? Sure but Kaiserhoff is not on the top of my list as there are other places with better value, flavor, and service. Welp! Onto the next!

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends to celebrate Oktoberfest. We sat outside where it was very pleasant. Our drink orders were taken right away. They arrived about 10 minutes later. We were waiting for a couple more people. When we were all there. I let the server know. She returned 10 minutes later to take our order. One person got an appetizer and a basket of bread. We were all hungry and the server made it sound like she was going to bring another bread basket. That never happened, so the 8 of us just shared that basket. It took a long time for the food to arrive. The food was delicious! I had the Rouladen which was very tender with a nice rich brown gravy with a side of spatzle. Hubby had Sauerbraten which he loved. Others enjoyed their sausage and schnitzel. Again the server never checked on us, and brought us our checks before dessert arrived. There was another group larger then ours ( who already had their food ) and two customers at another table. So it was not that busy...the two male servers who brought our food were very attentive and asked if we needed anything else. One even went back to the kitchen to ask a question about the sausages. A plus for food, service needs some work

Yelp
All outstanding. Great authentic German food. Good service and Bavarian ambience. Wonderful Roladen and delicious sauerbraten.

Yelp
We held a group dinner at Kaiserhof German American Restaurant and made reservations for the dining room because the outdoor patio was occupied by another large party. The private lot behind the building was full when I arrived, but fortunately a sign indicated that parking was free after 6 pm at the smog station across the street. The interior was cozy and rustic. It looked like there were two split dining rooms, an inside bar, and an outdoor biergarten. After we were seated, the waitress told us that we had to wait for our entire party to be present before we could order any entrées. I have encountered places that won't seat a group until everyone has arrived, however to not allow us to start the process for getting main dishes after 80% of us were already at the table? That was a very bizarre policy at the time. They did permit us to order appetizers which came pretty quickly. The spread we got included a currywurst, crab cakes, baked camembert cheese, and brussels sprouts. I liked the sausage in the currywurst as it was soft and used a light force meat instead of something heavy like liver. For the entrees, four of us selected the Schweinshaxe (i.e. pork shank) which had a crispy skin on the outside with very tender meat hanging on the bone. The shank itself was impressive in size and took a while to cook. I guessed that explained why all the main dishes were slow to arrive from the kitchen because the shanks were the rate-limiting plates. My dinner came with a vegetable soup, which tasted like a minestrone, and two sides (spaetzle, bread dumpling). The spaetzle was bland, but the dumpling was set in a brown gravy which was perfect. The check-out process took way longer than any of us had expected. We split the bill evenly across multiple credit cards. It seemed that should have sped up the processing. At least 15 minutes passed before we each received a slip to sign for our portion of the meal. The ups and downs of our dining experience led me to give Kaiserhof German American Restaurant a three star rating.

Yelp
This Resturant is a very quaint here, and only German Resturant here in San Diego their bar is pretty authentic here and stone fire place, and cozy patio in back you want make reservations for the patio. The only thing here not enough help was it was very slow getting our food tonight. Our waiter was so nice even the owner kept talking to us was so nice too Great to catch up with our family. And relax on Friday night great beers great pretzel, Currywurst was very good The only thing the meatloaf was okay. Our schnitzel was excellent cooked came out and delicious but huge it was almost falling off my plate.. even the chicken schnitzel was great with Gruyère cheese but who doesn't like a little cheese. Everyone had a choice of 2 sides mine was lentil soup it was good a small cup And potato salad 5, we all had their German potato salad 5, Red cabbage 5, great flavor cucumber salad was delicious lots of dill and cucumbers sliced thin packed with wonderful flavor!! I wanted more.. Apple sauce was good the acid cuts the rich food. I love German food..just saying I really like their patio it is cozy and it's cute back there If make reservations you should request to sit back there We'll be back

John Patrick C.

Yelp
Inconsistent food half of my order was scalding hot but the main entree was room temperature as if it had been sitting around for quite a while. I've been there a few times with similar results. But my friends love it so I go.

Yelp
Food is always authentic. Atmosphere is great. Bar is small and quaint. Better make a reservation.

Yelp
I love the stone of building interior, the outdoor patio also holds a lot of charm. The food is delicious, feels like home

Yelp
What can I say about this place that has not already been said? It feels like a family when I am there. I have made friends with just about the entire staff and that only makes me love this place even more. It feels like The country club of Ocean Beach. I can spend the whole day here because the food is like nothing Ive ever had, the ambiance is fantastic, but its the people that really make it though. I feel like the staff all truly care about doing what they are doing the best they can at all times, even when it hits the fan. I have become a huge fan of Kaiserhof, maybe a bit of an addict, but it also feels like I am a part of the family. And thats what keeps me coming back!

Yelp
We went for a friend's birthday and we all were very pleased with our dinner selections. I had the trout and seasonal vegetables, bread dumplings for my side. husband had the three sausages (Wurst plate) and potatoes. The celebrant had one Jager Schnitzel and that mushroom cream sauce was divine! His friend had the Schnitzelette Gruyère- also tasty, and rhetorical celebrant's sister had Bratwurst on a roll. For some reason, the server thought to put us in the far end of the added room; perhaps because it was an already set table of five. But we had dim lighting and it was chilly, and had to ask a few times for the heater to be put on. Dress is pretty casual. I felt very welcome otherwise and I took a large pretzel to go hom

Yelp
Really cute little restaurant with patio seating. Although when we were there, once our food was served, there were a lot of flies. Service was iffy. Our server was really slow getting back to us and it wasn't that crowded. Her service was very dis jointed. She seemed as though she really didn't care about our experience. She made a couple suggestions on food when I asked her but that was it. One person in our group of 8 ordered an appetizer. She didn't take the rest of our order until about 20 minutes after he received his appetizer. Really long wait to get our food, easily at least 45 minutes. After we got our food when our server checked to make sure everything was ok, she didn't wait for our responses. Luckily the food is good. Don't like that some of the menus don't have prices (schnapps menu, for example). I had the wurst sample. It was delicious! For my side I had spatzle. Nothing special about the spatzle...kind of dry, no real flavor. Why don't you serve baskets of bread to mop up the sauces? Good food, takes too long to get it (it wasn't crowded at all), indifferent service (except for a really friendly young guy who delivered our entrees). Won't rush back, maybe next year for another Oktoberfest meal.

Yelp
Love it here! So happy when I found out they had an outdoor area! Good is amazing. Don't come here for the service though....only reason did the 4 stars.
google avatar

Myra C.

Yelp
Huge portions with a variety on the menu. The schnitzel doesn't come with sauce unless you ask for it. It's was just average. The kids didn't like the sliders. They were too dry and the meat wasn't good. The pretzels are nice. It's expensive and just didn't meet our expectations based on value.

Yelp
Kaisenhof's was awarded the Best German Restaurant in their local papers. However, when I googled German restaurants in San Diego, it listed two making the other option a food truck. So by default, they win the best prize, but in all seriousness, they specialize in authentic German cuisines such as Wienerschnitzel, Sauerbraten, and Rouladen. I enjoyed the service and atmosphere. Our server was excellent! She made some recommendations for German draught (that isn't easy to read) and kindly took a group photo of our table. The decor of the bar has an old-school European feel to it. They also have an outdoor biergarten where you can soak up Vitamin D while drinking. I didn't see the Boot size option for their drafts. Many places do not carry this fragile glass, but it would be nice if they had it. What I ordered: PRETZEL with a side of CHEESE BOWL - This is a MUST when out drinking. It complements well with beer. We ordered ours with a bowl of melted cheese; however, this can be skipped because the pretzel comes with mustard and butter. As we were getting close to finishing our meal, I was dunking everything in it because the portion was generous. BAVARIAN STYLE SAUERBRATEN (Marinated sliced beef with ginger spiced sauce) - The meat was TENDER, as I could easily cut it with their standard knife. The spiced sauce was like an earthy gravy. The sauce complemented well, similar to IKEAS Meatballs and Gravy. This meal comes with two sides, and I ordered GERMAN FRIES and CUCUMBER SALAD. The German Fries are pan-seared cut potatoes with garnish. The Cucumber Salad was the BEST GERMAN SIDE DISH I've ever had. It was refreshing, and I loved the taste of vinegar and dill. HACKER PSCHORR MUNCHNER GOLD (Beer) - The server recommended this beer, and I am glad I went with it. This lager had a similar bite if you have tried German beers like Spaten. Unlike light beer, which tastes like water, German beers have this spicy and floral aftertaste. It's got this nice flavor where beer tastes more like food than liquid.

Yelp
Had a great time and meal at this restaurant. Came here with a big party of 14 and the staff were so attentive the entire time! They made sure to answer all our questions and kept checking in throughout the entire meal. I ordered the chicken Gruyère with sides of potato pancake and red cabbage. All 14 meals came out at the same time which was very nice too! The meal was delicious, especially the main course! The sides had great flavor but were a little cold. Overall would recommend this spot to anyone who loves German food!

Yelp
The chef needs to review the recipe for Currywurst and Veal Schnitzel. I lived in Germany for 3 years and those were among my two favorites German dishes. Last evening I dined with a friend visiting from out of town at Kaiserhof. I ordered Currywurst as an appetizer, but it was slathered with tomato ketchup but no curry. There were more potatoes than sausage. For the price it should have been the other way around.. The Veal Schintzel had the distinct taste of fried bread crumbs. because the veal had been pounded so paper thin that the thickest part was from the fried breading. My friend ordered the Wurst plate which he liked, but he said the sauerkraut tasted it came directly from a can. The bread buns served were rock hard and the butter frozen solid. Our server was moving at such high speed throughout the restuarant, it was difficult to flag her down.

Yelp
Love their big pretzels and their weiner schnitzel. Oh and have to get the cucumber salad!!

Yelp
Great food and service was okay. Food was authentic. Only got a 4 because while the waiter was great in the beginning, he dropped off and wasn't refilling drinks or water at all and no ice in water at all. Had to ask for it.

Laura G.

Yelp
Service was slow but friendly. Roll and butter was on the hard side I would skip it. We had Wust platter with saurkraut which was pretty tast but not amazing by any means. The sirloin steak with a pepper wine reduction sauce that was too peppery. Had to scrape it off so I could eat the steak. Potato cakes and applesauce were bland. The Camerbert and fig jam was the best part of meal as was the Goulash soup. Sorry but the food was not worth going again. Looked better than tasted
google avatar

Yelp
The Beer, Pretzel and Veal was really good, ambiance as well. Server was very attentive, It was an excellent dining experience.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by this place last weekend while visiting San Diego. I ended up ordering the weiner schnitzel with fries and a potato pancake. My husband opted for the pork schnitzel with bread pudding. Both were very good, the pork more so than the veal. Fries were also tasty and my husband said he enjoyed the bread pudding as well. Parking: they have their own parking lot in the back!

Yelp
This has been on my bucket list for awhile now. I was not let down. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our waiter (Rueben) was so good. He definitely helped us with decisions on the beer and food. We were not disappointed with our choices. Everything was delicious!!! Can't wait to go back with our daughter!

Yelp
I had meant to stop in here and try this place for years, literally. I was always afraid it would be too expensive from what I heard. I finally took the plunge and stopped in thinking I could at least have a beer or two and scope it out. I sat at the bar area and the waitress on staff was so wonderful, I thought she was just the bees knees she was so friendly and sweet. I had a couple beers and a bratwurst sausage. For what I got I thought it was a very reasonable cost. The ambience was quite German bierhall vibes and I love it! I will definitely be going back and I encourage anyone reading this to go too!

Yelp
Skipped out on Ocean Beach's Oktoberfest and came here instead for a more authentic German experience. We arrived only about 20-30 minutes after they opened and the kitchen was already at full capacity with orders and they stopped taking walk ins for tables in the dining area. Instead, the only option we had was to be seated at the bar while we waited for the kitchen to open back up, which took more than 50 mins after we sat down (Yes, literally, I checked the time stamps on my photos to confirm). I just ordered a mug of their Paulaner Oktoberfest Blond ($5.95) while we waited. Eventually the bartender came by with the menus so that we could finally get some food. We ordered the Jager Schnitzel Lunch Special ($24.95) with a side of Sauerkraut and the Schweinehaxe ($36) with a side of Cucumber Salad and Bread Dumpling. Once we put our orders in the food came out pretty quickly, and between the 3 of us, the 2 dishes was plenty of food between us. The schweinehaxe was super crispy on the outside, like chicharrones, but the meat itself was kind of dry, even with the gravy poured over it. I definitely preferred the jager schitzel since the meat was a bit juicier. The sauerkraut and the cucumber salad were good as side dishes to counter the heaviness of the meats. While it's not required, it's highly recommended to reserve a table before you get here in order to avoid situations like the one we ran into less than half an hour after they opened. It's kind of unfortunate that they can only offer food in intervals, even during peak times, because people want to eat, but have to wait almost an hour before they can order. That on top of having the dry meat for one of the dishes didn't give me a very good impression.

Yelp
Hands down legitimate German food and probably the best I've tried anywhere (accept Germany). They even have my region's crest on the wall which was special to see (Nordrhein Westfalen). I've lived in the States now over 30 years and it is rare to find traditional recipes and old school family favorite on the menu: Sauerbraten, Roulade, Currywurst (highly recommend), Mushroom Spätzle. Jäger Schnitzel is fantastic. Absolut lecker! Absolutely delicious. Staff is great. You have to try this place. Highly recommend. Biergarten and regular indoor dining as well as bar that very much feels like a traditional Kneipe. It's a little but unassuming from the exterior.

Yelp
Visited on Wednesday 6/19 very early at 09.00 to watch Germany play Hungary in the Euros. They had opened in the morning to accommodate a small group of fans. Lovely setting and big screen in the Biergarten. Great atmosphere. The coffee and food were excellent, and our waitress Lexi was delightful. Nice people! Hope to join more Germany fans on Sunday.

Yelp
First off, as some who fell head over heels for the German country... I can not say enough good stuff about this place! Foremost, please come here, as the chairman from Iron Chef dubbed it "with an open heart and fully empty stomach"! Portion sizes here is unbelievably large, meant to share. Great European beer selections. And their dessert is just beyond amazing! I finally got my bf in here after several attempts at trying to get him to this place. To pay homage to his grandparents, who hailed from West Germany. Yes, I know they're no longer divided. And so when we got done promenading around the El Cajon's 3rd day of celebrating Oktoberfest, we decided to venture out to this place, again. Luckily this time they were open (I do know that this app is what's meant to help with knowing business hours and what not of an establishment, but sometime spontaneity is also best way to cure weekend ending blues). It's been awhile since I've been here. And I'm so glad today was as good as I remembered both places, especially getting our dinner here. And it brought so many of my bf's childhood fond memories . Can't wait to get back in here again.

Yelp
Sabrina is amazing and the food is amazing too. We had the sausage plate in the seafood soup and traditional stroganoff, which was on fucking believable. Can't recommend this place enough and Sabrina is extremely knowledgeable about all of the food menu items even though she's vegetarian. Highly recommend for a very memorable experience and also try the mushroom sauce that comes with the stroganoff and then also try the paprika sauce.

Yelp
We ate lunch in the dog friendly Beirgarten. Service was excellent even though they have the servers with tables inside and outside. We watched soccer with a lively crowd and had a blast. The Wurst platte was huge, as was the large pretzel-I'm glad we shared them! Great selection of German beer, and their daily special was a $5 martini which was absolutely perfect!

Yelp
My dad loves this place so of course we went to celebrate Father's Day. Good rich food. I've learned i don't love schnapps and that's ok waitress was nice. I do wish staff was a little more knowledgeable on ingredients when asked what was in certain things to help describe them. Love the outside beirgarten

Yelp
My family and I have dined here for as long as I can remember. The food is amazing and authentic, the service is always warm and welcoming. I recommend you to try the wurst sampler at your visit! Inside dining great for parties or dates, covered Biergarten great for more casual visit, enjoy!

Yelp
Rolled over to Kaiserhof Restaurant in Ocean Beach with a date last night for some authentic cuisine & suds from the old country. Long a staple in OB, this joint has a warm friendly vibe, fresh cold brews on tap, top notch service and abundant portions. The menu offers up numerous dishes that one does not see so much in our land. And, oh boy the grub comes out quickly and hot......simply delicious, without any doubt. Full range of draft beer choices behind a comfortable cozy bar. The entire wait staff is welcoming, informed and extremely efficient. A very pleasant enjoyable evening all around. I can heartily recommend this fine establishment for any occasion. You will not be disappointed. Stoner Grub ranking: 8.5

Yelp
We have driven by this restaurant a lot of times and finally got to try it out! We were so lucky because there were only two seats available at the bar. We ordered soft pretzel, wurst platter, and two sides, which are meat dumpling and red cabbage. So good!!! Especially the pretzel , we ordered one extra because it's super delicious. The wurst platter is nice as well with 3 delicious sausages and Sauerkraut. The meat dumpling is a little dense than I thought, I don't recommend this. But the red cabbage is pretty good. I will definitely come back to try more food.

Yelp
Went to Kaiserhoff for Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey and sides were excellent--as was the Pilsner. But our server, Rebecca--was off-the-charts in taking care of the five of us. Even found us a bigger table when one opened up--and helped move us, which we appreciated. It made our Thanksgiving--and her service is always professional--no jokes or chatting--just good efficient service. Thank you.

Yelp
Amber, server in her own league, was @ each juncture, stellar! Dr. Lopez enjoyed fresh brewed coffee with the delectable veal schnitzel & cucumber salat (yes, "salat") . April's large beet salad was inviting & fresh., paired well w/the dark German Ale . My broiled bratwurst was simply perfect, as was my chosen side dish, potato pancake. The camembert app w/lingonberries was filling for the three of us (yum). We celebrate our long-standing friendship & Christmas Season here, @ Kaiserhoff every year, for the past 10, (count them) ten years. Food gets better each year; ambiance transported us to Germany and the service is welcoming & efficient, never rushed. Amber deserves a raise, as she made our cherished gathering even more meaningful. YELPers, make your reservations timely & celebrate you here @ Kaiserhoff!
