Google
Such a warm welcome experience with amazing food. Staff was very helpful and always ready to take any special requests. They made special sushi for us. Definitely will be returning to this place. Very small and very homemade very good. Definitely a must go to place. Really good sushi high-quality. Sashimi was fantastic. Service was even better. Classic Japanese style very fun. If you're in town definitely check it out, a cute quiet little place that does food right. The sushi bar selection is good and the beer selections even better

Google
Absolutely such an amazing place. Ty makes you feel so welcome and like part of the family. Sara and Laura are fantastic servers with so much energy and made us feel so comfortable. They were very busy and still managed to accommodate every single person in the restaurant. Definitely my new spot! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Google
Very friendly staff. Owner came around to all the tables to talk to everyone and ask about their experience. Will be back when I'm in the area.

Google
Absolutely delicious food (with great presentation) and extremely friendly and helpful staff. I would completely recommend it if you are looking for some awesome sushi!

Great tasting fish. Restaurant is clean and the staff are very kind and sweet. Will totally go back!!

Google
The sushi here is very fresh!! (trust me, I'm Japanese so I know) The sushi chefs are friendly, servers are attentive, and overall atmosphere is great.

Google
Unsure why this place has amazing reviews. Staff was lovely and friendly, however the food was not great. We came here for a special occasion hoping to enjoy some great sushi and got fish and rolls covered in heavy and overpowering sauces (even the sashimi?). Was off-putting to say the least. Hopefully we just caught them on an off day, but not worth wasting the money for another try.

When you go to Kaito and Chef Ty is around, you're not just a customer, you're like family. Chef Ty is so much fun honestly. He goes around to tables and sits down with people and seriously seems to know all his customers. He makes jokes across the restaurant and we had such a fun meal. I've come here several times before as well, and the food is excellent every time. I can't wait to bring my family here. What an absolutely lovely restaurant with lovely people. I love the atmosphere. Nothing like feeling so welcome in a restaurant, it's hard to come by. Thanks Chef Ty!

Yelp
If you want good, fresh sushi, this is the place to go!! Great service, each bites were so delicious. Best night ever !

Yelp
I've been many times to kaito as a seal beach local, and can never get enough food. Great quality fish, variety of Japanese items, and have asked for specialty items such as okinomiyaki which I've been impressed by the chefs ability to produce quality Japanese food regardless of menus items.

April B.

Yelp
Love this small sushi bar, very clean aesthetic and music though remashes of well known hits isn't a deal breaker. Very fresh sushi ask and the sushi chef will tell you. Salmon skin roll very good Tea cups are small but they will refill it as many times as you want. Street parking. And all the staff very welcoming. Will be back

Yelp
Outstanding food and service. We drive an hour to experience this restaurant and boy was it worth it. The quality was outstanding. The Sushi chef Ty who is also the owner knows his stuff and delivered me and my wife an unforgettable dinner. The location is in downtown Seal Beach which was our first time there. Awesome atmosphere.

Yelp
I came in here today for my first time. I've been told great things about this sushi place . OH MY GOSH!! It was the best delicious sushi I have ever had!! I always order rolls with NO RICE. The Kaito Special was on the menu but I'm not keen on spicy tuna. The owner, Tai, who is the head chef created me a unique cut roll that was out of this world. Crab, tempura shrimp, topped with salmon sashimi! Service & Ambiance was EXCELLENT!!!

Yelp
Oye...! WELL! Best thing here, in addition to the nice server, is what you see in the pic right there. GREAT Japanese amber ale... the sushi on the other hand... simply average. Listen here, my friends - if you want to get 4 or more stars for your sushi reviews... you better BRING IT. And Kaito Sushi did NOT. Ah well... there's only a gazillion other sushi joints out there. NEXT!

Yelp
Had a sign up that said temporarily closed. Truly a loss to Main Street if they close permanently. Great food, and the service and ambiance is brilliant.
google avatar

Bryan U.

Yelp
My favorite sushi place that's a combination of both quality and affordable! Tai makes every visit memorable. Even if you're not sure what to have, he can come up with great sushi for your preferences.

Yelp
Must of been an off day for this establishment today. Too many hiccups toward our dinner. Delay in service for beer to arrive, wife's Salmon under cooked (Raw), and Sushi order came after entree had to ask if order will arrive. Other then that it"s alright for Main Street food! You don't go there as a regular or you might but the parking is limited and if you pay it cost 17 for 2 hours this was about 530pn. Not a place to go across town but in the neighborhood try it but be warned ? ?

Yelp
Made a reservation here, but still had to wait about 20-30 minutes for the table. They seemed busy. When we sat down we ordered some rolls and appetizers. They were out of oysters so we got a kama instead. The environment was a bit dimmed and louder other customers. Food was okay. We got the seal beach roll and Main Street roll. I guess the fried part was crab.

Jill S.

Yelp
For what is worth, our first experience there was very disappointing. We ordered the full dinner options ( bento box) and maybe we should have stuck with a sushi roll. The salmon was over cooked and a very small portion, the fried chicken option was totally over cooked and mostly all breading no meat, edamame was over cooked as well.7 To top it off a server spilled a glass of water on the way to another table that soaked us. We had to ask for napkins and deal with that and the puddle of water under our table. Server was sweet but whoever is in charge needs to step it up. We were looking for a nice new place out and $100 + later, we won't go back.

Brian M.

Yelp
The ambiance, staff, and food were very, very good. Need to be open more than just 3 hours and can't read the sign out front.

Yelp
Old Town finally has RAMEN and my ramen dreams have some true! Got the Miso Ramen (only $12!!!) and my son got the Tonkatsu Ramen and we are beyond pleased. The Dragon roll and the jalapeño roll was also fantastic. Can't wait to come back!!!

Yelp
5 stars for the sushi chef being so personable and nice. 2 stars for the staff who were inattentive and acted as if everyone was a bother. Never checked in with us, had to wave them down for any minimal thing after looking around for them for 5+ minutes (where are they disappearing to?!). What should have been a quick 20-30 min meal was over an hour due to the lack of service. Sushi was good but didn't blow me away. I'll probably try it again but not for quite some time.

Linh N.

Yelp
I don't usually write reviews but this one deserves a mention. Wife & kids wanted sushi so I decided to take them here. The vibes here are the best. The staff took care of us like family. Somehow the other customers around us knew each-other. Guess its a place where there are regulars. I love it. The Chef, Ty, is amazing. He made us some special dishes. Kept the kids entertained which is a huge plus. We'll def be back. Thanks for an amazing experience.

Yelp
Chef Tai and Sergio serve some of the freshest and amazing sushi. His life experiences work into his craft and creativity. Very authentic and still fresh and inventive! This will be your go to place. Fabulous service!

Yelp
This place is just fine. I wish it was better because the location is so cute and seal beach needs fresh sea food on Main Street. The fish was pretty dry and not up to par for the quality expected with the ocean a block down. I'm sure it is great if you like a busy roll, but the nigiri was no where near other locations in the area. Overall, fine in a pinch but not going to become a regular favorite.

Aurea H.

Yelp
The good- quick service because it's empty. The Yellow tail and salmon was good. Do not order Nigiri sushi...this is NOT that kind of place. Chef Ty suggested I get the Sweet shrimp at $17 for 2 pieces;(he apparently was trying to get rid of it) It was so small and falling apart (probably pre-frozen). The albacore was barely palpable. Honestly would have rather gone to Whole Foods. Extremely disappointing. Chef is very social and nice but does the does not understand quality control. I would have never served the albacore or Amaebi.

Yelp
I do not remember seeing my daughter laugh so much! The main chef was the rock star! No we did not get the sushi bar but we can clearly see the live entertainment. Why entertainment? Well, the entire Japanese staff was fluent in Spanish! What a compliment and they were so funny! Now the rolls? They melted and my roll was just on point. My domestic partner ordered the caterpillar but it looked really hairy. Who cares! We inhaled it! It was a beautiful Saturday after noon and I called to make reservations. They do offer sitting outside "A lo Fresco" Our server was a real sweetheart and he was all over the map. In other words he was the only server but he dearly made sure we were content. The way the crew made us feel! We just felt right at home! "Como familia" when the adorable Japanese spoke to me in fluent Spanish! I knew as my daughter chuckled with a big smile ear to ear. We new this is our new happy place. The sushi bar had a birthday girls party and of course somehow we became part of the party! The chef came out to make sure we were happy with our rolls. Of course we were! Most of our food came out with in the first 20 minutes and I look forward to our return as it is a new family favorite.

T D.

Yelp
One of the best sushi spots in the area! Went there late in the evening and had a fantastic time and great food. Compliments to the chef

Yelp
Well out by a beach again like most of the time and I wanted to try a sushi place ive never been to. Upon sitting down it took 10 minutes for either female server to acknowledge me. Finally I ordered water and miso soup it showed up fast though. I ordered 3 rolls all were great and i like the prices to. Girls here serving are very friendly.

Yelp
Along Main street that leads to the Seal Beach pier. Given this location, Kaito Sushi is able to get plenty of business from tourists. As a local to this area, I wouldn't say Kaito is the best place to get your sushi fix, but it is decent. They have the standard rolls, bento boxes, and udon that you might be craving. Service is pleasant and quick. Since it is touristy, the menu prices are a little bit higher than what you would expect given the quantity on your plate. But the smaller amount that you receive is made up by the quality of the fish and accompanying sauces and vegetables. It'd be cool to see Kaito have ramen on their menu. That's definitely one major food option missing from Main Street!

Yelp
Left with absolutely no disappointment! Never been here before today and it was honestly the greatest experience ever. We had got there before they had opened, waited and got seated immediately. We were the only ones there our whole time there (felt a little VIP-ish) but I loved it that much more. The chef himself even offered a small taste of what he had made that day... delicious! When I tell you, mouth watering. All the sushi we had ordered that was made by him, CHEFS KISS Our server too was the sweetest, so attentive and patient. Loved everyone and everything about this place. Definitely somewhere I'd recommend to others and come back to! I'm so happy I discovered this place, I'll be coming back!

Yelp
We ended up going to Kaito Sushi last night because all of the Mexican restaurants were full on Cinco De Mayo. We thought that since it's located on Main Street in Seal Beach that it's gotta be good. Well, we were completely wrong... probably the worst sushi we have ever had! I'll start by saying we didn't notice until after ordering that the Sushi chefs were not Japanese. That's usually a tip off that's it's going to be sub-par. We started with vegetable tempura which tasted like it had been frozen and flash fried. The breading should be a light and crispy panko coating but sadly was not. The bento box which was overpriced ($24) came with the saltiest miso soup I've ever eaten and so I couldn't eat it. The salmon teriyaki was the smallest piece of fish that probably came out of a large frozen bag that they heated up and threw some teriyaki sauce on. The small green salad was fine but then they give you potato salad( the strangest thing for a Japanese restaurant) but actually was probably the best item there! The crunchy roll was awful with some type of processed fried crunchy thing on top instead of a panko topping which is the standard. My husband's sushi was not fresh and all the rolls were mostly rice with hardly any fish inside. I would not recommend this place! And will not be going back!

Siu L.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. I feel at home when coming here every single time. Give it a try and discover home away from home!
google avatar

Eun P.

Yelp
I ordered a couple of rolls but the size of rolls were ridiculously small and sushi rice was pretty much dry. Won't come back here again.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
Absolutely superb! Sushi was fresh, Chef Ty was very friendly and personable. Today was the first day OC allowed dine-in as long as social distancing was practiced. There ade currently only two tables and one at the bar available to sit at and luckily my husband and I grabbed one. It was our anniversary so it was nice we didn't have to sit at a place in in the grass or the sand. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Carmen H.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had an excellent Sunday date at Kaito at the sushi bar. The owner/chef is personable and makes excellent recommendations. We will see you again soon!
google avatar

Ronald B.

Yelp
At the counter is the way to roll with Ty-san. He and Sergio know Sashimi and staff support with drinks and all other amenities. Hands down Kaito is the "Cheers" of Sushi. Well worth a visit to Seal Beach just a short walk from the pier and waterfront. DELECTABLE and DELICIOUS.
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
During this pandemic I understand it's hard for restaurants to maintain business and all. But this is way too ridiculous. This is what you get when you order Japanese's BBQ ribs and sashimi for $18. It looks like left over, just bones. I'm not sure if this is the norm for Japanese BBQ. If it is I would of expect a few more pieces would be more adequate. And unfortunately there was no wasabi for the sashimi either. Taste wise I can't say much as I don't know if Japanese BBQ rib suppose to be tasteless or not. I'm sorry but I don't think I'll come back again. I can only wish the best luck to the business.

Yelp
I've gone for pick ups, a family night, and with a friend. The sushi is mouthwatering fresh, alcohol is wide ranging, deserts are awesome, and service is always a pleasure. Make sure to say hi to Ty! Awesome chief and bartender. Ambience is slay

Yelp
Went for the first time about a month ago and went back a second time recently. Great local spot for Old Town Seal Beach residents and visitors! Sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed excellent service from the owner himself. Seemed like he knew everyone who walked through the door, and even remembered specific details about the type of fish we enjoyed the first time we were there as well as things about our conversations! We couldn't believe it. Staff was also very attentive and friendly! Great variety of fish for sushi/sashimi and also a very extensive menu if you aren't sure what to order. Beer & saki selections as well.

Michael S.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery and paid $18 for a bento box that looked like a kids meal. 3 tiny pieces of meat, I need 3 of these meals to even fill up. Terrible value.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick dinner middle of the week. Super friendly staff made us feel right at home. Sushi slices were good sized and fresh. The sushi chef made me his favorite which was the amber Jack. Loved the texture of their fish and the flavor reminded me of another of my favorites which is the yellowtail. Tried the chicken karage and I was absolutely delighted I did. The pieces are nice and large which allowed the chicken to remain amazingly juicy! The sauce was sweet and flavorful enough to keep my tastebuds occupied despite the large piece. It came out hot and I found myself debating whether to order another one even though the portion sizes were hearty because it was that good. The yellowtail collar was solid and satisfying. Overall, another great dining option down in my local corner.

Yelp
I give this place 4.5 stars. - ATMOSPHERE Super quaint little spot on Main in Seal Beach. It's got a sushi bar and a few tables for people to sit at as well. It's a little small, but they utilize the space really well, and although it's a a little small, they still have the tables spread out enough where you don't feel like the people next to you can hear your entire conversation. CUSTOMER SERVICE We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The sushi chef greeted us and also informed us that we could pick a table to sit at. The servers were very attentive. They always came by to fill our waters, and came by just enough times to make sure everything was ok. FOOD We shared the FRIED CALAMARI. It was delicious. It's tempura battered, which I love because it's nice and light and gives a good crunch. The creamy sauce that they give with it was really good. There's another sauce they serve with it as well that I wasn't a big fan of. I got the ROCK AND ROLL. It was so good and so flavorful. The presentation was so nice that I didn't even want to eat it. I also ordered the SALMON SKIN HAND ROLL. This was just ok for me. Nothing bad about it, but nothing extraordinarily good either. I feel like there was something missing. Maybe some eel sauce or spicy mayo to make it a complete bite. - OVERALL I would definitely be back again. I loved the food and the service.

Jake S.

Yelp
This little sushi spot is amazing! Awesome staff and amazing fresh sushi! And they have outdoor dining so we were able to bring our pup:) seriously recommend this place if you want some bomb food and awesome service!

Michelle M.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to give this spot a try, seeing how most of the restaurants on Main are good. ALERT**this one was not! Sushi rolls were small and didn't taste fresh at all! I hate paying for an expensive meal that wasn't worth it!! Plus, service sucked!
google avatar

Jonathan Y.

Yelp
Started off with the chicken Kara-age and Agedashi Tofu as I always do at every Japanese restaurant. Both were very delicious. I like to get lemon wedges to drizzle on the chicken, try it and you won't regret it. The Agedashi tofu was perfect had the right texture and stickiness to it. For those who want something cooked, the caterpillar roll and the spider roll are both a solid choice. However for those who love raw sushi and sashimi I highly recommend the spicy Chirashi bowl. I get this everywhere I go to find who makes it the best. And I'm surprised to say I've finally found it here in downtown Seal Beach. One would think to go to Little Tokyo or Torrance for the best, but it's right here at Kaito Sushi. The presentation was spectacular. I was surprised and skeptical at first, but every piece was so good. So much attention to detail in the arrangement of all the different pieces in the bowl. I've passed by this restaurant dozens of times and have been meaning to try it. I'm so glad I finally came in to give it a try. It met and exceeded my expectations by far. The staff is very warm and welcoming, responsive and helpful. This is somewhere the staff really makes you feel at home and taken care of with love. I can't wait to stop in again soon to try more dishes. The hard part now is not ordering the spicy Chirashi bowl every time I come in and never trying the rest of the menu because it was that good! I will have to come earlier next time to get a better picture of it in natural day light. The lights were dim at dusk so the picture I took did not capture the true beauty and artfulness of the dish.

Yelp
Meh. that's all. just, Meh. The garlic edamame was ok. the sushi was just barely "ok". wont be back.
google avatar

Alyssa O.

Yelp
Everyone in my party that got sushi really enjoyed it. Which I get is probably what most people go there for. However, I got the teriyaki chicken and it was not edible. The teriyaki sauce was the worst thing I've ever tasted. My stomach was upset I had to go down the street and get a slice of pizza for dinner afterwards.

Yelp
I'm giving this place a 2 star because they are, or should be way better than this! We've been here a few times and have had similar experiences, yet this one took the cake! We attempted to celebrate my wife's Birthday along with our 2 daughters! We sat outside. We ordered beer and sake! We requested glasses or cups for the beer! THREE TIMES! Eventually my wife went inside to get them! The waitress had attitude about it yet our 2 beers have been sitting now over 20 minutes! Not good! After we got our drinks, we literally waited over 20 minutes before we had to stop the waitress and ask her if we can place an order for food. Meanwhile, there were only five tables of two people each beside our table. Eventually I waved her down and asked her if we can place an order, and she annoyingly took our order. The first items we ordered were spicy yellowtail hand rolls that came with regular simple yellowtail inside. No space whatsoever! And the Yellowtail was fishy. Meanwhile the yellowtail and black snapper sashimi were amazing! We had to wave down the waitress again and let her know that the rolls I have issues. She said she would have them fixed and we made quickly. After approximately 15 minutes the owner came to the table asking if we're having issues with the food and we told him the same. We told him exactly what the problem was, what we ordered and what we expect to receive and he said he would take care of it himself. In that same conversation we asked for one more beer and one more bottle of sake! 10 minutes later he brought two bottles of beer to try to make up for things, yet no food yet. Approximately 15 minutes after that, he came back to talk about which roles exactly we want. We told him again exactly what we ordered and what we expect. We were supposed to receive three spicy yellowtail and rolls, no rice in soy paper. He brought two protein style rolls, one with crab and yellowtail and another with some deep-fried shit and salmon on top. Nothing we ordered. When he brought the rolls out I reminded him about the bottle of sake which she brought out quickly. We mentioned a few times that it's a birthday dinner, offered him two shots of Sake with us and said happy birthday each time and there's no attention paid to the birthday whatsoever at any time during or at the end of the dinner. The bill was $233 for decent to bad food and very subpar service. I don't mind the price as long as I'm given the equivalent quality in food and service in exchange for the dollars, this place does not do that...

Yelp
I had to give this place a raving review. It's always fun at seal beach but eating with a toddler is challenging. The staff were so gracious, especially the older gentleman behind the sushi bar, thank you sir. The food was simple and good (fast and fresh too). Overall it's a sweet little place, it's clean and everyone is very polite and kind. We'll be back for sure!

Yen N.

Yelp
The store is pretty much hidden even though it was facing out like other stores, guessing because there are no signs, or we didn't pay attention much. But beside that, great customer service and delicious sushi! I went there with my bsf for a late lunch, and ordered 3 plates of sushi in the pic. California is just like basic, so you know how it tastes like. Spicy tuna, I've never tried it before since don't like raw stuff, but this might have changed my mind! Such a perfect texture and flavor, I love it even more now! And Dynamite roll... at first, I was skeptical looking at the ingredients, but the first bite said otherwise! The sauce is super creamy and it is so well made. All 3 plates were fantastic with good texture, fresh and yummy ingredients, and really filled up 2 stomachs. The staffs are funny as well! I've never loved a restaurant with good food AND great service before. NEVER! Until now. We would love to come back with our family and friends in the future! If anyone come across this, I'd recommend to try our their Dynamite rolls! They taste fanatically dynamite!

Yelp
First time ever trying this place. Garlic edamame was very good. Nice and hot. Shrimp Tempura was good. Got six pieces. The California Roll was ok. My wife got a roll with jalapeno and spicy tuna and loved it. Thought it was outstanding. We sat at the bar and one of the Sushi cooks was very personable.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
We ordered take out and I'm giving this place 3 stars for the sushi and hand rolls alone. Those were good! However, i was not satisfied with the TINY piece of salmon they put in my bento box. The vegetable tempura was only a few pieces of zucchini, sweet potato and potato.. and the calamari tasted literally like card board. Overall, only mildly pleased.

Janie D.

Yelp
Incredible sushi in a lovely location, steps from the Seal Beach pier. The interior is casual, with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Minimal decor, and TVs on the walls. The space is relatively small, but has plenty of table and sushi bar seating. The menu is concise yet interesting, offering many specialty sushi rolls, bento boxes combinations, and traditional Japanese sides. They also serve a good selection of beer, wine, and sake. The sushi menu includes two entirely vegan options-The Vegetable Roll ($6) and the Yum Yum roll ($10). Both were delicious, and a generous portion for the price. The veggie roll was packed with fresh greens, cucumber, and avocado-they definitely do not skimp on the fillings! The Yum Yum was more indulgent, incorporating buttery smooth sweet potato tempura, and finished with a sweet teriyaki sauce. The balance of sweet and savory in this crunchy roll was perfect. My boyfriend got a sushi combo, which he enjoyed, and our bill was somehow only $32. A great value for a fantastic meal. I highly recommend Kaito.

Yelp
This place is simple, quiet and small but their food is amazingly fresh! I love sushi and you know when your food is clean and fresh when you've been to different places and this is next to the sushi I had at Houston's...
google avatar

Kent V.

Yelp
Amazing value for the quality and size of food you receive! I ordered the bento box with egg roll and sesame chicken ($15). This large box comes with a miso soup, salad, rice and edamame. Chicken was hot and delicious. Egg rolls crunchy and filling. Great value for $15. Everyone else in our party enjoyed the sushi. Friendly staff and owner. Definitely will be back.
