PHOENIX CITY GUIDE

"Kaizen" is the Japanese concept of continuous change and improvement. We have adopted this ethos and apply it respectfully in our approach to meticulously crafted, chef-driven sushi and omakase dishes. We feel that a great sushi experience is all about the finest ingredients, a detailed dedication to the craft, and an understanding of how food can reach across cultures to unite us."

10 Excellent Sushi Restaurants in the Phoenix Area

"Despite debuting during the pandemic, this Latin-Japanese sushi restaurant is a favorite for casual dinner or a night out. Embracing its location in the Warehouse District, the interior features all the design elements common to industrial spaces (soaring ceilings, exposed brick, and cement floors), providing a perfect, simple backdrop to the colorful bites coming out of the kitchen, like tuna poke spooned into a tiny cone bedazzled with black and white sesame seeds; perfectly cooked and seasoned rice; and twists on papas fritas. Happy hour, which runs Tuesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., is the real treat, with half off the entire menu ." - Steven Totten, Stephanie Carter

This place gets 5 stars across the board. Food, service, and atmosphere are on point. The food is light and refreshing. After sharing 2 apps, 2 entrees, a sushi roll and dessert - we were pleasantly full (but not that heavy thanksgiving meal full). The entrees aren’t large but thoughtful in flavor and presentation. With specials that not change seasonal but monthly! The service was friendly and helpful with questions. Continuous water and checking in just the right amount of time. The atmosphere is this cool retro building that has been modified for businesses. The decor and vibe plus lighting gives it a sleek comfortable atmosphere. Perfect for a date or special occasion. It also has a killer happy hour on food till 6.

Google
We stopped by because of their awesome happy hour deals. The sushi is a bit overpriced if it's not happy hour, so we only come during that time. Service is very nice- as is the owner. The quality of the food is pretty good, and I like how they come up with original drinks. I also like that they have a decent vegetarian selection. The interior is sleek and clean, and usually seems to be poppin.

We went for a quick bite for happy hour. They were expecting full capacity but graciously still fit us in. We ordered several sushi rolls and a couple fried dishes. The tempura batter was light and fluffy, the way it should be. The ginger and wasabi were fresh which speaks to the quality of the restaurant. The sushi rolls were served at the right temperature and in bite-size pieces. They were well compressed so they didn't fall apart when you pick them up or dip them. The decor was well put together and I loved the modern layout but it was a little confusing knowing who the host/hostess was due to where the entrance was located. All the food was delicious and well prepared. The rolls were good, but won't blow you away (Which I believe is a product of eating sushi in the desert). The only negative was related to how new the staff clearly is. They had great customer service but the front-of-house didn't have their process "fine-tuned". Would recommend for a casual night out, happy hour with friends or a relaxed date. Make a reservation on busy nights.

Google
Very cool ambiance we were seated right away. We were coming from a different sushi place which was unsatisfying. Kaizen on the other hand was 100 percent satisfaction! Rolls and drinks were 1/2 off because of happy hour. That steak was fire!!! Will definitely coming back! Service and food are sooo worth it!

Google
Okay so first of all let’s start with the happy hour everyday from 3-5. Even Saturdays! They do 50% off the whole menu and they add 20% gratuity which I honestly…think is more than reasonable. Literally only one thing that isn’t on the half off and it’s the steak which honestly to me is outrageously fair. Okay so pro-tip…look at the menu before you come and get some stuff put in right away because rightfully so, the place is packed. Also let’s talk about the cocktails. They’re beautiful and also half off during the happy hour. Everything is wonderful and delicious. Highly recommend, especially ag happy hour!

Google
Great food, atmosphere and service. Food was delivered really fast and it was very tasty especially the crudo raw plates. My server Kiki was great and made some great recommendations. Personal favorite is the king salmon crudo Highly recommend!

As a sushi connoisseur, I can say that Kaizen is THE PLACE to go in Phoenix. We have eaten at many a place on the west coast and by far, for AZ, this is the spot. Fish on point. Excellent service. Kitchen stays open up to 10 mins before closing. Full bar. Just a wonderful experience.

Google
Great place! New happy hour hours are 3 to 5. Our waitress Kiki was superb. She went far & beyond to make us have a great experience. Crab wontons were great. Miso soup was authentic. Dragon roll & Philly roll were delicious. The sashimi bowl was good but not sure it's worth the $60. A really great culinary experience will definitely be back next time I return to Phoenix!

Yelp
This place is amazing! I went here a while ago before they moved to Tempe for restaurant week. All of the food was fresh and came out around the same time. Since they want the food to be eaten as soon as it's ready not all orders will be delivered together. The gyoza were hot and the yuzu sauce underneath was delicious. Then the nigiri sampler was great so that you got a different piece of fish. The only thing that was a bit of a disappointment was the short ribs, they had too much fat on them and it was hard to chew. Then for dessert the pot de cream was silky smooth and the hint of yuzu was not over shadowed by the white chocolate. I can't wait to go back to try more and see their new location!

Yelp
Came here for the special event they did for rescue pups, which was great. A bit pricey for the 5 course menu but it was such a fun experience. The interior is gorgeous. Plenty of parking in the lot. The servers were SO nice and they really took care of the humans - and the pups. Food was delicious, I cleared off all my plates as did my pups that evening. My one boy was trying to steal food from other tables near us that's how good it was!

Yelp
I sat at the bar and was eating solo because I've been dying to try this place and service was exceptional! Shout out to Victor, Angel, Chef K and of course the owner Jason. All great and friendly hosts who were very attentive. This is a must go to sushi spot especially for their Happy Hour. I tried two drinks. One was called the Sweet nothing (strawberry based) and then I tried a spicy margarita type of drink but forgot the name. I also had the Gyoza appetizer, dragon roll, and the king salmon roll. Gyoza was one of the best I had. Loved the dragon roll the most! The salmon roll was good too just not my favorite. Will definitely being coming back and if you read the review this far then check into this restaurant when you get here for a treat 5 Stars! Also recommend making a reservation.

Yelp
Going to Kaizen before the pink concert really opened my eyes to what a culinary gem we have right downtown. By far the best Japanese food experience I have had, and I have had very many. Most excellent service, awesome vibe, friendly, waiters, I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone and everyone! And the pork Gyoza dumplings were hands-down, the best I have ever had anywhere in the world Their Happy Hour menu offerings are amazing too!!

Yelp
If I could give the spot 10+ stars I would! This is been the best kept secret in Downtown Phoenix, at least to me forever!! I wish I had known about it sooner. They have been around for three years, and I have been in the dark. We were able to find it via work! And let me tell you, every time we have a meeting at that building we are so excited you would not believe just so we can have their drinks and their meals! I think in the past 14 days we have visited this location at least 10 times ! And not just for work! My coworkers and I find any excuse to visit everyone there! Nicole, there are no other words to describe you other than incredibly amazing rockstar! You have made my teammates and I feel so extra special and have taken the time to go over every item in the menu over every detail of every drink so we can truly enjoy the experience that is this restaurant ! Of course , it would not be the same without your staff!! Every single one of them is incredibly friendly, thoughtful, and always there with a smile just like you!! Honestly, I don't know how I could ever live without the pork dumplings !! Every drink I have ever had here has been absolutely magical ! And I am sorry to say it has taken me a month to write this review because that's the first time we came into the restaurant about a month ago. However, just in the past two weeks we have been there so many times work, or non-work related. I recommend this place so much if you want to experience true dedication to food, drinks and service with an incredible team and an incredible ambience !

Yelp
Kaizen is absolutely delicious! We randomly stopped in for some sushi after Leaving a festival. The place is in the lobby of a building. It's beautifully decorated and gives a real cozy vibe with the furniture and artwork. We ordered the negima yakitori, the California roll, tempura roll, avocado roll, the vegetable tempura roll and the miso soup. Everything was so good!!! The yakitori was tender and perfectly cooked, all of the sushi rolls were freshly made and so freakin good. The service was wonderful as well, the hostess was super nice and helpful and our server was great! We will definitely be back. This place is great for a simple quick dinner or a nice date night.

Yelp
This was a spectacular meal. Everything we ordered was phenomenal. Our absolute favorites were the Tuna Poke Cones and Pulpo Asado. Servers were great with recommending menu items & their happy hour was amazing - 50% off drinks and most menu items. The restaurant had a great patio as well. Strongly recommend.

Yelp
Looking for a downtown adventure without the headache of being downtown then this is the spot for you As cozy as a warehouse can be you walk in and slightly turn left to be greeted by a hostess. We adored our waitress as she helped us navigate all thing's delicious I highly recommend their gyoza as a starter as they are not served like many other places and have a textured crust about them that slowly melts as you eat them The cocktails are also delicious and the bartender does a great job of offering a variety of options to be perfectly paired with the dishes you're eating Add this spot to your must try list and enjoy your night

Yelp
Greeted so sincerely & warmly by hostess Nicole. Thumbs up great intro to this place. I love the vibe of the restaurant 'modern chic' with art work around. Our waitress Rachel was attentive. Out vegetable gyoza wax excellent, see pic, nice presentation, light and scrumptious, next time I won't share it, haha but seriously. My sashimi salad was large for me but so fresh and fabulous. I look forward to another visit soon.

Yelp
I love Kaizen. Perfect spot for a date night The menu offers a diverse range of sushi options, from classic favorites to innovative creations. I highly recommend branching out and trying something new I will admit I always get the gyoza... it's just that good. If you're looking for a small plate to start with get the gyoza! The was staff is always attentive, knowledgeable and eager to provide recommendations. The restaurant is located in a huge warehouse where there is plenty of parking too which is a huge pro for a restaurant downtown
google avatar

Yelp
The best place for happy hour. It's 4-6pm and it's the whole menu half off. We tried a lot of things. The karage chicken is really good. Also the wontons. The gyoza is really good. The skewers are good too. Papas fritas are good. Yakisoba are good. The drink I got was good too. It's a cool trendy spot. Inside a building that looks like a newspaper building. Also there's plenty of parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely come here for happy hour!! They have 50% off entire menu from 4-6pm from Tuesday to Saturday! They do mention that during the happy hour special 20% gratuity will be included and based on the regular menu price. This will not be a problem because the staff is amazing!! Especially the manager, Nicole. She went above and beyond to making sure our meal and service was the best experience. Parking is available 5pm in the lot in front of the Lawrence building. Before 5pm, you are allowed to park in the Larry cafe spots. You can make reservations on their website and they will send you directions about parking. There were so many things we want to try so we will definitely be back! The sashimi were really fresh!! Our favorite items were the Caribbean King, King Salmon Crudo, Sashimi Salad, and Bread Pudding! It was hard to choose favorites since everything was honestly delicious! Check in on Yelp and you get free gyoza! I would definitely recommend this place and excited to go back during happy hour! I saw that Air Guitar in gilbert sells items from here so it will be convenient for people that live further, but have delicious sushi cravings!

Yelp
Amazing food and and chill vibes! Come during happy hour for a solid 50% discount. Check-in and get a free, delicious, gyoza appetizer! The entire parking lot is fair game after 5 pm. Make a reservation, so there's zero wait (although it was not busy when we went) Overall the food is excellent and the service is phenomenal. The manager, Nicole, was frequently checking the tables and making sure we were all having a great time. We had an assortment of food. Every dish was plated very nicely and tasted even better. My favorite was the Caribbean King! Happy hour is 50% off most dishes, so come before 6pm. They do charge a mandatory 20% on the pre-discount meal so do expect to pay a good chunk more. Either way, the restaurant staff and manager deserve a generous tip for going above and beyond.

Yelp
Parking: designated parking lot which is so nice in the downtown area Service: everyone was so kind and our server Rachel was great and had amazing suggestions Drinks: we ordered the black berry pie and kyuri garden. The black berry pie was so tasty basically dessert. The kyuri garden was more spirit forward and refreshing Ambiance: cool concept that is super open with a ton of sliding doors to get fresh air Misc: you have to go for happy hour! It's Tue-Sat 3-5 and 50% off the entire menu!

Yelp
Would come back to try other food during M-Sat 3-5p happy hour. Otherwise, food was pricey and with 4 dishes split between 2 guys, it was $60+ and only filled us up to 30%. Overall flavor was tasty but when a California roll is $11 and the maki rolls are the prices of specialty rolls elsewhere, everything adds up. Free pork gyoza vía Yelp check in, otherwise $12 + interesting presentation and texture with the ?rice crunch + tasty and soft filling Hamachi special + overall tasty combo of yuzu/ponzu sauce and fish and components - too much sauce/overall sauce flavor was overpowering - hard to eat all components in one bite as it easily would fall apart Dragon roll + tasty insides - smaller portion sizes of shrimp tempura, roll, and unagi - quite a bit of overwhelmingly sweet unagi sauce Spicy tuna roll - $13 - tasted a bit of the spice but not much of any fish, maybe that's a good thing if it's not fishy - tiny roll - spicy sauce smudged over edges/outside of roll - had tails of fiber hanging out a couple pieces

Yelp
Came for happy hour and was not disappointed! Happy hour is 4-6 p.m. and everything is 50% off!! They do make a disclaimer when you arrive that there is a 20% gratuity charge based off of original FULL (not happy hour) prices, but this gratuity goes to the service staff which they deserve so it wasn't a problem for us. Basically it's closer to a 30% discount which is still a great deal for what you get. Finding the restaurant was kind of confusing because the restaurant is located in a building called the Larry, so there is a huge "The Larry" sign where the restaurant is rather than a "Kaizen PHX" sign. Just park at the Larry and walk into it and you'll see the restaurant. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating of our large group. My friends ordered sake bombs ($6 during happy hour for asahi, $4.50 for sapporo) & it got very messy/loud, but our waiter was very friendly about it and even helped clean some of it up. She also brought out extra glasses so that we were able to split one sake bomb between two people instead of ordering a whole one per person. My favorite was the Caribbean King roll!!!! It had king salmon sashimi, avocado, mango salsa, spicy crab mix, panko fried shrimp, cucumber, eel sauce, and tajin. Original price was $20 and discounted was $10. The portion was actually big and was enough to fill me up. I also got the Seicho drink ($6 during happy hour!), which was very sweet and tasted like candy - which is what I like in a drink personally haha. Some of my friends got the chirashi and poke bowls (original price $21-$23), and they looked so good! We also got karaage, yakitori skewers, and other rolls. My friends all liked their food, & we hope to come back soon :)

Yelp
I love this place! The chef made us a special meal and it was excellent! I can't wait for them to open back up!

Yelp
I came here for happy hour on a Friday night. The venue is interesting - it looks like a warehouse type building downtown with other businesses in the building. We tried a good selection from the happy hour menu. I think my favorite was the tuna poke cones, though some of the signature plates were good too. The nigiri was good, but the other dishes are so interesting that it takes second place to them. If we hadn't come for happy hour, the dishes would have been pretty expensive. The drinks are good too! I got the matcha cha cocktail. Yum!

Yelp
A co-working space with a fabulous mini restaurant?! Gotta be kaizen me. A coworker was in town ~a month ago trying to find sushi and wasn't impressed with the closest option to her hotel, so she came here which was a little farther away (Downtown ASU area). I was minding my own business packing & moving my house when she sends me a few really cute pics of food and vibes, not knowing where or what the eff this Kaizen place was. I'd been to a couple events in the co-space a few years ago and had no idea a restaurant was plausible there. Her pics impressed a couple of us enough that during her next trip we took an impromptu visit there for a prolonged dinner & were treated so well! Happy Hour is 4-6p dine-in only Tuesday thru Saturday and it's 50% off the entire menu. Our server was so nice to let us order a few foods and drinks since we sat at 5:45ish. Things you HAVE to order- mouth-watering salmon crudo; (don't shy away from the jalapeño); shisho pesto (a mead of shisho leaf, NOT nuts); tuna poke cones; couple of rolls (Caribbean king and northern lights), and of course... DRANKS! They take their sake selection seriously. I started with Seicho (amazing vodka drink), thought I would like the Hiko Keiro (gin drink, I didn't) so I went with sake... leaving Kaizen like a sake connoisseur! Definitely thankful for my coworker finding this gem in DTPHX!

Yelp
Was so excited to come here for a Friday afternoon sushi date with my dear friend and esteemed black-badge Yelper, Karen W. She made us a reservation at 4pm so we could partake in their happy hour deals (half off the entire menu except for their specialty roll!) This spot has a lot with plenty of parking, wasn't sure exactly where to park but I figured a visitor spot was safe. Love the ambiance here, very modern and chill, and we sat out on the patio and next to the door which provided a nice AC breeze. We ordered the spicy edamame and veggie gyoza as appetizers and they came out as they were ready. The gyoza was beautifully presented and tasty, would order again and also take advantage of it being free with checking in! The edamame was plentiful and spicy as advertised, I made sure to finish those. As for rolls, we got the specialty roll (which FYI is normal price) and it was colorful and delicious. Also tried their dragon roll and what happens in Vegas (fried). Both of them were tasty as well and I preferred the dragon roll since fried sushi isn't my top choice. But the warm cream cheese was a nice touch in the Vegas roll, I'm a sucker for a Philly roll so I'll have to try theirs next time. Nicole was a wonderful server and very knowledgeable about the menu options. Our waters were filled regularly and empty plates taken away. I think this is a great spot to meet up and would love to come back!

Yelp
Kaizen is my favorite restaurant in the world. I've been trying to gatekeep it for so long but their March drink special is so incredible it is too selfish for me to keep it to myself any longer... The service is always top notch, my boyfriend and I come here all of the time so we have had pretty much everyone lol. They are down to earth, kind, extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food is just out of this world. We went here for the first time in December of 2020 ( I think ), and ever since then, we come here for every major holiday. When you discover a restaurant so incredible the opportunity cost of trying somewhere new is just too much. The ambiance is also excellent, I am not a loud person so it can be hard to be in some restaurants on occasion but I never feel like my voice gets lost in Kaizen. I just realized I need to take more pictures when I get food from here!! Will update later.

Yelp
I do believe this place could have been much better if I got something different and are server was a little more attentive but based off my first experience here nothing amazing about this place at all. I did not like the dragon roll. The snow crab wontons were great. But other than that I didn't try anything else. I will say none of my friends had any complaints on the rest of the food that was ordered. Are server was rlly nice but she was barely there the whole time. Restaurant did have a super nice ambiance and was nice and clean.

Yelp
Right now Kaizen is one of my favorite sushi spots in town. Kaizen is located in the industrial district south of the baseball stadium. There is ample parking since the building is a co-op and not too many spaces used at night. Service can be a little slow on weekends and Happy hour based on the rush and amount of people. However, the food is immaculate and infused with a lot of spice and jalapeños. They also have a good drink and wine selection. It's a bit pricey so I recommend going during their happy hour. This is a great spot for a date or if you're looking different scenery. It's a modern adaptive reuse building and the ambience matches the food. I've recommended this to many people who have surprisingly not heard of it yet.

Yelp
Kaizen put me in a zen kind of mood for its chill atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent happy hour. This happy hour will definitely make your wallet feeling very happy! The menu is unique in that some items offer a bit of a Latin infusion in them, such as the hotate aguachile and ceviche. We shared some appetizers and got a few rolls as well as aguachile. Out of all the appetizers the ancho tamarind ribs were the stars of the show. The ribs were so tender, with that fabulous tangy glaze I could eat a whole rack of them if left unchecked! I got the tic tac toe roll and the Caribbean king roll. They were both delicious and I loved the unique presentation of the tic tac toe roll. While I liked the fresh scallops in the aguachile I wasn't a fan of the actual sauce but that is because you could definitely taste cilantro in it and cilantro is my mortal food enemy. Service was friendly, attentive and water was filled promptly when needed. If you are sitting at the longer rectangular tables it's a great restaurant to dine in more safely in terms of Covid precautions because they are situated right next to the large windows with plenty of air circulation and they are fairly widely spaced apart. They do have an outdoor patio as well. If you are dining inside with 2 people chances are you will be squished in a cramped looking setup of very closely spaced 2-tops that don't allow for much distancing or privacy. I normally don't dine too often in this area due to lack of reliable parking but at Kaizen they have their own private lot shared with some other businesses. I will definitely be back! Go figure my favorite meal at a sushi place was the bbq rib dish lol.

Yelp
Nicole was great and knowledgeable. We started with drinks and got the special Lucky You (bailey's and mint), and Kuruzu (rum, sherry, yuzu, prickly pear, nutmeg - very smooth!). Next, we ordered each item one at a time. First, the special Chu Toro Nigiri (like butter!), it was the best item of the entire night. Then we ordered the King Salmon Crudo (King Salmon sashimi, jalapenos, pesto, serrano ponzu - delicious). We then ordered the Caribbean King (King Salmon sashimi, avocado, mango salsa, panko fried shrimp, cucumber, taji - pretty good). Lastly, we ordered the Sashimi Salad (Big Eye Tuna, Yellowtail, King Salmon, mixed greens, cucumber avocado, wonton strips, poke sauce - very refreshing!). And the Hiko Keiro (gin, apricot liqueur, luxardo cordial - too strong, will KO you so be careful). Most importantly, come during Happy Hour which is Tuesday thru Saturday 4pm to 6pm, the entire menu is 50% off! Very much worth it. And make a reservation because it gets packed at that time! For parking, any Larry or Visitor spot is fine. Kaizen is The Larry by day, and Kaizen by night. Same kitchen & space, different chefs. Or at least that's what the manager told us. Also, it's in the Warehouse District in a gorgeous building called The Lawrence which also houses a technical school.

Yelp
Wow! It's not often that you visit a place and it's hands down a 5 star experience. But Kaizen was all of that! From start to finish we had OUTSTANDING service. All staff were so friendly and passionate about the food and service. You can also tell they all sincerely cared for their jobs and believed in the restaurant. Which is pretty rare nowadays. Our waiter was so nice and great at explaining all the delicious choices and gave awesome food and drink recs. And the food...oh my gosh it was EXCEPTIONAL! I think we've found our go-to sushi restaurant because everything was spectacular. My favorite was the snow crab roll. It almost melted in my mouth and had a butter flavor to it. One of the best rolls I've ever had in my life! My husband and I both loved the Caribbean king roll and that was his favorite. The flavors were complex - sweet/spicy and soooo good. We were stuffed but I can't wait to return to try more of their dishes. And since this restaurant converts to "The Larry" during the day and has the same owners, trying that place out for brunch has now moved to the top of my list too!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know how I haven't been here before! First off, happy is half off of EVERYTHING on the menu. We had to double check with our waiter because we weren't 100% sure we read that right but we did. Of course we had to try a lot of different items on the menu. The seasonal cocktail I ordered tasted great alone but I don't necessarily think it paired well with the food we ordered. Our appetizers were spicy edamame, shishito peppers, and gyoza. All very delicious! The shishito peppers had the same spice that the edamame had so next time I will probably just get one or the other. For our entrees we ordered the nigiri assortment (that also came with a miso soup), a philly roll and ceviche mixto. The flavors were great and the sushi was really fresh. The only thing I didn't care for was the ceviche, it didn't have any lime/lemon flavor at all and it had a strong fresh fish taste that I personally do not like. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely be coming back. I will say, we were a little confused as to where the entrance since there isn't really any sign leading to the specific doors. I would definitely recommend making reservations! We got lucky that someone canceled so we got seated quicker than anticipated. Also, shout out to our server Kyle for being so awesome!

Yelp
Sushi Fix Satisfied If you're looking for the best sushi head over to Kaizen in downtown Phoenix to satisfy all your sushi cravings. The staff at Kaizen are attentive and open to listening and answering questions about their menu. I definitely recommend coming during happy hour since almost everything on the menu is half off. On this visit we ordered various sushi rolls, ribs, yakisoba, snow crab won tons, edamame and a few fried dishes and everything was delicious. The tempura batter was light, flavorful, not greasy. The sushi rolls were beautifully presented, served at the correct temperature, in bite-size pieces, which didn't fall apart when you pick them up or dip them.  Every dish was perfectly balanced with flavor. If ypubstop by you havevtonorder the snow crab wontons, so delicious. Great drinks/food, exceptional customer service and the atmosphere works for most occasions. Kaizen need to be a permanent spot in everyone's dining rotation.

Yelp
Hands down the best Sushi in Arizona. And I lived in Japan and fine dined often. The reviews do not lie. Great atmosphere. Killer happy hour. I have had most of the menu - it's all great but my top are: -Caribbean King Roll -Northern Lights Roll -Tuna Tataki Roll -Nigiri or Sashimi Assortment -Hotate Aguachile - Really any of the Signature Plates Each time I get to visit Kaizen I look forward to it all day. That good.

Yelp
This may sound silly, but we came in through a recommendation we found on YouTube. During our stay in Phoenix, we came in on a weekday evening. We didn't have a reservation but had no problems getting seated right away. We were greeted by many of the staff who provided great recommendations. We ordered the Tuna Tataki, Snow Crab Wontons, and Spicy Tuna Roll. We enjoyed the flavor of the Snow Crab Wontons but felt that the wontons were underfilled. The Spicy Tuna Roll was just okay compared to other Spicy Tuna Rolls I've had elsewhere but the Tuna Tataki is worth coming back for. There were so many flavors that blended together so well and we were so tempted to order another one! The ambiance was great and we loved the music choice. Overall, we had an enjoyable dinner here!

Yelp
I don't often give out 5-star reviews, but this place has a special place in my heart. When I wrestled with the idea of "what earns a 5-star" I simply couldn't think of a restaurant being perfect in every single way. In act, I think it's impossible to hold that mindset. I had to re-structure my own definition of what makes a restaurant 5 stars. While I battled with this idea, the manager at Kaizen, Jason, reached out to me and invited me back into his place of work after an uncharacteristic experience the week before. Upon my next arrival, I had a fantastic experience. The food was great, service was unmatched, and ambiance was delightful. I felt well taken-care of, and I felt welcome. To me, what earns a 5-star is the restaurants ability to take, reflect, and engage on criticism. Kaizen cared about what I thought about them,. They took the time to reach out to me. They invited me back in, and made me feel at home in their place of work. I think a lot of restaurants can take notes on Kaizen. This place is wonderful!

Yelp
The restaurant has a lot going for it. Great location, trendy, cool vibe, friendly staff. Unfortunately, I just wasn't impressed with the food. I ordered over $220 worth of food. Their food wasn't bad by any means. It was just very average. Nothing blew me away. My favorite item was the Mt Fuji salad, which is kind of a problem when that's better than the sushi rolls, appetizers, and entrees. The other problem I had was the portion sizes. Take the Shishito peppers appetizer for example. First of all, it came in a huge container. So right off the bat you're giving the wrong impression to the customer regarding the portion size. I open the container and there were literally 7-8 peppers in there (see my photo). That's more than $1 per pepper. As for the sushi, why so stingy with the amount of fish in the rolls? These aren't bargain-priced supermarket sushi. The regular rolls cost ~$10 and the special rolls are $15-$25. There were a few end pieces of the rolls where there were literally no fish and just cucumber. That's just not acceptable, especially at the price I'm paying.

Yelp
Good sushi and good service. Tip -- I would visit during happy hour! Our meals were stupid cheap. I believe they have half-off rolls. We all left feeling satisfied.

Yelp
Best happy hour place down time. Their entire menu is 50% off! They do charge automatic gratuity off the original prices. The staff is extremely friendly as well. Very cool vibe both inside and out, and super easy free parking. I love doing dates here or bringing friends!

Yelp
Came in on march 22 it was around 7ish the service was fantastic and the food was even better. We were visiting from socal so our expectations were pretty high. I would def come back here if I'm local again a must try if you are in the area. The vibes and ambiance was chill, eclectic, artsy, and playful. I loved the nigiri and the banana dessert was delish. The kids l loved the California roll and edamame. Great concept unique flavors yet true to flavors.

Yelp
As an out of town guest staying in Downtown PHX on 2/10/24, my hubby and I were in search for an upscale happy hour nearby. We're so glad we discovered Kaizen. Not only were we impressed by the ambiance, delicious cocktails (Sweet Nothing, Hiko Keiru, and Kuruzu), and expansive happy hour food menu (Dragon roll, snow crab wontons, shishito peppers, karaage, shrimp tempura roll, and spicy salmon roll), the service was top notch. Although we did not have a reservation, the host was friendly and accommodated our request for high top seating. Our server, Julie, was out of this world and went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable experience. She was kind and hospitable, and made our visit a memorable one. We plan on returning to this gem when we visit PHX again in May! For those who complain about the 20% gratuity to the happy hour menu before the discount, don't be a cheapskate! The quality of drinks, food, and service is well worth it. Enjoy!

Yelp
This place is so nice I came here twice...on my trip to Phoenix this past week. During her day it's the Larry. Then it turns into Kaizen Sushi. Tuesday has an amazing happy hour from 4-6 pm (dine-in only) where everything on the menu, including cocktails, are half-off! I think between the three of us, we tried at least 1/3 of the menu between both trips. Lol Started out with the veggie gyoza since they were out of pork. Absolutely delicious. For checking in with Yelp, they actually come as a free appetizer. Then we had the snow crab wontons and the chicken karaage. Both were also excellent! Second trip we did another round of gyoza, karaage, ancho tamarind ribs and snow crab wontons. Between the two trips, We ordered the Caribbean roll, spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, Alaskan King roll, spicy salmon roll, Philly roll, northern lights roll, senor Larry, rainbow roll, tuna tataki and the veggie roll. Also a salmon poke bowl to go. We also did the drink special of the week which was a spin on an old fashion. I had the Seicho and then my brother got the Shebui. We also did a bottle of the Navajo tea sake on each trip. SO GOOD! And it's also locally made! Everything is delicious, the staff is very friendly and awesome. Definitely looking forward to coming back my next visit to Phoenix!

Yelp
My husband and I have been waiting to try this for a long time and it was worth the wait. The food was amazing. After we finished our first hamachi we ordered a second. My husband had to stop me from ordering another. Everything we had was delicious. The atmosphere was great- what a cool space with everyone appearing to be having fun. Service was exceptional. Gwen was great and was backed up with a very attentive team. Five stars all around. We won't wait too long to come back. and my shibui (check the menu) was superb. This also required refills :)

Yelp
Found this little gem while at a conference downtown. It was also restaurant week. The staff were super helpful and got us a table even though they were busy. Speaking of the staff everyone there is super cool and attentive in asking how everything is. Nice experience so far! The restaurant week menu was awesome. 3 in my party ordered a variance of their special menu while I ordered enough sushi for 3 people. The sunomono salad and sashimi were excellent!! So too were the short ribs! Every roll I ordered was excellent so I won't waste strokes here. They are closing to move to a new location which I'm sure will be awesome! Best of luck to these guys!

Yelp
Kaizen has a great deal going for it. It's located just beyond the crush of downtown Phx and has its own free parking lot. Very accessible by car or rideshare, though about a half-mile walk from light rail. Four of us went there for a celebratory dinner on a Friday night. It's an open, very roomy place in a smartly renovated commercial building and although it was far from empty we were seated right away. We enjoyed the atmosphere very much. The sushi and sashimi were absolutely superb, easily the best we've had anywhere in Phoenix. The server, Casey, also helped me navigate the menu for the best gluten-free options. That night, they did have an issue with their computer that delayed several of our orders for a while. The boss, Jason, came over and was very apologetic about it. He comped us an entire round of delicious desserts. We appreciated that, and we plan to go back soon for more of their excellent sushi and sashimi.

Yelp
We had great service by Gwen and all the food was so tasty, can't wait to return! It was the perfect spot to stop before a concert!

Yelp
We enjoyed our happy hour here on their patio! The pork gyoza were surprisingly delicious and large portion. The drinks are tasty and also included on their happy hour pricing. The Las Vegas roll was sooooo tasty!!! The service was friendly and the inside is small and sorta limited seating but cute. We made a ressy through open table and it was easy and seemless. Parking was easy be free in their lot after 5 pm. We will be back again!

Yelp
Came here for Valentine's Day and it did not disappoint. I would classify it was an Asian/Latin fusion, as there are many influences from those culinary cultures. I will say we were a little confused pulling up because it is located inside an office building, within a restaurant advertised as the Larry (becomes kaizen at night), so if you see this you're in the right spot! It was quite a different vibe than I expected; more industrious and artistic aesthetic. Would be a great place for entertaining, dinner with friends, or dates. Service was attentive and friendly! Come during happy hour!!!! Drinks: This place knows how to make a drink. All the cocktails we ordered were amazing and well balanced. The komorebi was a tropical tequila drink that was on the sweeter side with a spiced tajin rim. If you're looking for something herbaceous and refreshing go with the kyuri garden. My personal favorite was the furusato.. I love mezcal. The smokiness paired so well with the hints of coconut. It was creamy but not super sweet as I initially feared. Incredible! Food: We shared a bunch of dishes. The highlights to me were the hamachi supreme and Caribbean king. The hamachi is similar to Nobu yellowtail that everyone goes crazy for. Good quality and portion size. The asparagus was a fun twist. All around a light and bright starter. The Caribbean king really stood out because of the fresh flavors and uniqueness. The mango salsa was a first in sushi for me but I loved it. It was spice, sweetness, and a great texture. I would recommend that for sure. The spicy edamame was different from anywhere else. It was tangy, and almost had a creaminess to it, not sure from what though. This one has a kick. My boyfriend couldn't enjoy it much because he is sensitive, but I liked it. It's not overwhelming. The salmon crudo is a great concept, unfortunately it was perhaps not the freshest it could have been, in my opinion. It was still good but just something I noticed about the flavor. My boyfriend didn't have the same experience. The tic tac toe roll was unique. Very fresh and light. Almost a palate cleanser. Nothing jumped out to be about it though. I wish one of the ingredients was more potent, but I can appreciate a simple, delicate roll also. The Vegas roll (which for some reason I did not put together what it was until it came out) was the best I've ever had. The breading was light but crunchy, and held its integrity. Many Vegas rolls are sopping and overly breaded, but not this. These pieces were HUGE and contained all the characteristics that one loves in a Vegas roll. Although not pictured, the spicy tuna roll is an honorable mention. Good quality tuna abs actually had a hint of spice, which I love. The fish literally melts in your mouth and gives a creamy, delicious texture. All in all, we loved this place. A delicious find. Very fun and outgoing. Our tab was 180-ish (before tip), which for the experience, quality, and quantity we received, I deem as fair. They have a great happy Hour if you want to try 3-5 everyday, but reservations are highly recommended for it! Will definitely be returning! A new favorite spot :)

Yelp
We made reservations and I think that was a good idea because the place seemed pretty full. The food came in a timely manner and it was absolutely delicious. The tostadas were my favorite I think, I am sad because those will be seasonal. Everything tasted fresh and the service was very attentive. The happy hour prices are amazing I'm not sure if I would come outside of happy hours because the price is cut in half. The place was a bit difficult to find so if you're confused enter in the main building. I will definitely be back here again

Yelp
I asked my wife out for date night and she wanted to try something different. We found this wonderful little spot based on their amazing reviews and thought we'd give it a shot. Kaizen did not disappoint and we will certainly be back! Delicious and fresh sushi. Great cocktails and friendly service. Our server Gwen told us that the have a really good happy hour daily from 3pm - 6pm. Check them out. They're walking distance from Chase field with plenty of space in their private parking. So we didn't have to drive around looking for a spot. I think we just found a new favorite.

Yelp
We went for the NYE fixed menu with some friends who absolutely love Kaizen. Needless to say, we were very impressed with the food and drinks. The sushi was fresh and consistent and the cooked meals were full of flavor and the short rib fell off the bone. We can't wait to come back and from what we hear this place has a great happy hour too. The service was wonderful and the owner was personable and friendly. The ambiance was small, quiet, but modern.
