Try Ramen Minus the Soup at This Japanese Chain’s Rockville Outpost | Eater DC

"I visited Kajiken's Rockville outpost to try its abura soba — chewy noodles tossed with all the traditional toppings (chashu, soft boiled eggs, bamboo shoots, and more) that are lightly coated in soy sauce, chili oil, and vinegar, resulting in a much lighter bowl without broth. The shop argues that soup-less ramen allows more versatile toppings and is healthier and lighter without fatty broth (so you can even order extra noodles). The Rockville location joined only five U.S. spots in July as the nearly 15-year-old Japanese company reaches 50 stores worldwide (including a two-year-old spot in Baltimore) and opens its own noodle manufacturing facility. The new Maryland shop offers different abura soba combinations — including vegan, Old Bay shrimp, and roasted beef versions — plus traditional rice bowls, classic soupy ramen, and appetizers like fried chicken and gyoza." - Emily Venezky

I ordered the takoyaki and niku miso abura soba. Even though it was packed, the food still came out quickly. Andy was friendly and attentive. The noodles were nice and thick, and cooked to a good firmness. I thoroughly enjoyed the saucy noodles and toppings. I also ordered a bowl of rice to finish the extra sauce. I’ll definitely be back.

This is an outstanding place to satisfy my craving for authentic Japanese noodles, especially their signature Aburasoba! The service is quick and the ambiance is charming/inviting. It has definitely become one of my favorite go-to spots in Rockville!

My husband and I eat here like 2 weeks ago I was so busy that I didn't had time to do a review it this place was sooo good, both my husband and I enjoy it so much we will definitely come back for more, the place was small but cute and comfortable, people are nice and it was just a lovely experience, I definitely recommend this place for a comfortable quiet date or family time

Service was 10/10, big shout out to my boy Thai ✨ We received solid menu recommendations, and our food was expedited quickly. The price is par for the course for most good ramen places these days, aka a little more than I'd like to spend, but the food was good regardless. We'll be back!

SOOO DELICIOUS! I got the Sukiyaki and it was so good! Really filling and generous for one person. The right amount of meat. It wasn't super salty. The noodles were chewy and soft, absolutely perfect! Each piece of takoyaki had a one huge piece of octopus in it. Service was quick and friendly! Worth the price for about $14! Would love to come back again.

Wow, this place is amazing! I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. I’m a vegetarian, and I was thrilled to find a vegan option. There wasn’t any ramen with vegetable broth, but there was a delicious vegan ramen with a tasty sauce! I was a bit skeptical at first, but it turned out to be a fantastic dish! The restaurant is beautifully designed, and what surprised me the most was that all the employees greet and say goodbye to each client in Japanese! It was such a cool touch. I will definitely visit again.

This was my second time at Kajiken and I had a great experience both times! Most notably, the service is very welcoming and attentive. I was greeted by multiple different hosts while I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive and they got us seated quick. I felt like the server was also really nice; he took our orders without making us wait too long and also checked in on us to see if we needed more water or anything. For my entree, I had the chicken curry abura soba ($14). I really liked it! It had a strong Japanese curry flavor with lots of crispy grilled chicken. Others at my table got the sukiyaki and original flavors, and they loved them as well! My only disappointment was that the drink menu was pretty plain and seemed to mostly be bottled tea/juices. Parking was full in the front when I came, but there's a larger lot behind the restaurant and a free retail garage for even more overflow. $14 for a tasty bowl is still a good price for Rockville especially, so I'd be back!
