16 Restaurants Worth a Drive Out of New Orleans

"Kajun Twist & Grill in Lockport, and the original Kajun Twist in Galliano up the bayou, dish rib-sticking Cajun fare in mammoth portions. The restaurants are owned and run by Anthony Goldsmith, who learned to cook from his late great-grandmother Alzina Toups, who famously ran her own small restaurant experience by reservation only in Galliano. Cajun Twist offers huge portions of fresh seafood, fried chicken, enormous burgers, frizzled onion rings, fish chips, gumbo, and po’ boys, all guaranteed to satisfy even the heartiest appetite." - Beth D'Addono

For $26 I had higher expectation’s especially visiting Louisiana they are known for blackened seafood. I ordered grilled blackened fish and shrimp and this is what they brought me it was gross and definitely was not blackened or grilled sauce was nasty I don’t even know what it was to be honest, these good reviews must be fake because the food is nasty. My plate didn’t even make sense toast, mash potatoes, frozen baby shrimp and catfish? nothing home made about it the waitress claimed. Mashed potatoes we’re definitely instant. I can’t speak on the other food items but my plate was pretty disappointing won’t ever come back

Wonderful waitress. Got the lunch special. Good fried chicken! Gumbo wasn’t special. Felt like 3 separate ingredients-chicken, sauce and roux- didn’t meld together.

I had free reign to the bar area alone, watched TV 📺 on the channels I wanted, had a beautiful black haired waitress with glasses with a very nice sweet chatty disposition, was very attentive to my needs and wants, took my custom order well without me needing to repeat it, had a wonderful giant open face roast beef 🥩 sandwich on French bread that was phenomenal along with some chili cheese fries 🍟 that were killer that I just didn't need to add on. My pup 🐶 loved them too. Was a quiet place to simply enjoy a great poboy for an early supper! I'm sure they pep up during busier hours too. *Spacious bathrooms.

Had high hopes and was disappointed. The half and half platter contains mostly shrimp and 1 piece of fish. The onion "rings" are strings and not that good either. Not to mention they got the order wrong. And the side salad is a pile of lettuce and a cut up piece of tomato. And the toast is 4 cut up pieces of bread.

Just called in at legit 7:45 to place an order, chick responds, “ we stop taking to go orders at 7:45” ….. clowns!!!! 10$ onion rings and ready to shut it down ….. better get there early, don’t work late!

Food wasn't bad, but $42 for two roast beef poboys (which they forgot my cheese) and an order of onion rings is a bit much. Then on half of one of them the amount was kinda skimpy. Won't be my first choice in the future.

Yelp
Stopped by this place about 6 o'clock on a Saturday night and wasn't too busy. They have a decent amount of seating, fairly small place they have. Service is fast and friendly, I got the roast beef and some fries. The sandwich had good flavor for sure, could've used some more meat on the sandwich but it wasn't lacking much. Quite a bit of fries that had no salt or seasoning on them. I enjoyed the meal for sure but $24 is a little steep for a roast beef poboy and fries

Yelp
Well a disappointment at best. The service was fine, friendly and attentive. The ambiance was fine, nice clean dinner. But.... The price is very high for diner food, and the food was ok at best. I had a hamburger steak $16, that was overcooked and slightly burnt with a bland brown gravy and a small amount of grilled onions that were slightly burned as well. The gravy and onions were extra. I had a cup of chili $7.50 with cheese and Onions, onions were fresh but the chili was bland and it was no joke a "cup" for $7.50. My friend had the Ranch Burger $14 that was under cooked and the potatoes were over cooked. Considering you can go down the bayou and eat at a sports restaurant for the same meal, less money, more food and MUCH better flavor there is no comparison, down the bayou I will go. Sorry no photos on this one, just not impressed.

Yelp
Wouldn't make me a seafood poboy or 1/2 & 1/2 because it wasn't on their regular menu. Refused to upcharge me and add shrimp and oysters. Didn't dress it the way I asked them to. And charged $5 extra for a plate of nasty fries with no seasoning that tasted freezer burned. $20 total for shrimp on bread with a few stale French fries. I feel like I just got robbed.
