Every summer, my return to Nafplion isn’t complete without a visit to Κακαναράκης,
situated among a lively stretch of shops and cafes, Κακαναράκης offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complements the energetic surroundings of Nafplion. The restaurant’s open-air seating lets you enjoy the buzz of the strip while indulging in some of the finest Greek cuisine around.
My meal began with a wonderful surprise: the Κριθαρωτό θαλασσινό (seafood orzo). This dish was a true highlight—each bite was so fresh, it was as if you could taste the ocean itself. The orzo was perfectly cooked, absorbing the rich seafood broth, and was accompanied by a delightful medley of shrimp, mussels, and calamari that melted in your mouth. The flavors were bright and briny, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients and the chef’s skill in bringing the sea to the plate.
Alongside, I enjoyed the σαλάτα σαν σπανακόπιτα (spinach pie salad), which cleverly deconstructed the beloved Greek spinach pie into a refreshing and light salad. It combined fresh spinach leaves, feta, dill and a hint of phyllo crunch, drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette.
