Where to Eat and Drink Around DU This Fall (Whether You Are a Student or Not) | Eater Denver

"Between all-nighters and early a.m. seminars, high quality coffee is a must on college campuses. Kaladi delivers the quintessential coffee house experience, with a built-in mission to increase quality, source beans from sustainable farmers, and roast skillfully, producing delicious beverages. If you’re a tea drinker, we highly recommend the mate latte with a dollop of honey." - Gigi Sukin

Google
Nice coffee shop near Denver University. The coffees are excellent and there's a small selection of pastries. I enjoyed the latte. Service was excellent - both fast & friendly. There's ample seating even though it was busy this morning. They do have password protected Wi-Fi available for guests. Parking was easy early in the morning, but can be problematic later in the day.

Google
Had an amazing experience at Kaladi Coffee! My daughter and I were visiting from Minnesota and were welcomed. We had iced lattes with white chocolate syrup and was DELICIOUS. Thank you for the great coffee and conversation! Highly recommend.

Google
I had an amazing experience. I tried their Home Latte (Kaladi Lattee), and it was perfect—just the right amount of sweetness, allowing the coffee flavor to shine rather than being overpowered by sugar. Exactly how I like it! The staff was very welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was great. Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves a well-balanced and flavorful coffee! I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I come to Denver and place online order for their coffee to my home.

Google
The service was absolutely amazing! All the gentlemen there were so helpful and kind. I can’t wait to try the beans! My latte was delicious, the espresso was smooth, no bitterness. I work at a local coffee roaster in Omaha and love to try other local roasters whenever I go out of town. This place is awesome, definitely recommend!!😄

Google
I looked long & hard to find a cute coffee shop with yummy coffee and this one hit the spot! 😊 there is plenty of seating, the baristas were very nice and helpful. I got the kaladi latte in a mug and it was delicious!! I love trying house made syrups and this one great 👍 definitely recommend!!

Google
Kaladi is the best coffee shop around without a doubt. The espresso and coffee are fantastic, and there are a plethora of drink, food, and syrup options to choose from that accommodate allergies. The atmosphere is inviting, positive, and motivating - I enjoy the seasonal decorations and the local artwork on the walls. I've been to hundreds of coffee shops but I've never met a staff as kind, cheerful, fun, welcoming, patient, helpful, hardworking and all around fantastic as the team at Kaladi. Erin and Adam in particular are incredible individuals who go above and beyond each and every day to provide excellent service, cultivate relationships with customers and make Kaladi a special place to be. Anyone leaving a bad review is probably an entitled, impatient, sensitive, weak, fool who has never worked a day in service in their life, and believes hiding and complaining behind a screen will be more effective than speaking to a team member about their concerns. Kaladi is a staple of the DU and South Denver community, and I recommend supporting this local business 100%.

Google
Great coffee. No pastry selections left but that was ok. You come here for delicious coffee and the college vibe. Liked this place almost 20 years ago; still a wonderful place to hang and enjoy fresh roasted coffees.

Google
My wife, adult son and I visited this coffee shop for the first time a couple days ago (Saturday afternoon) and had an enjoyable experience. Parking was kinda tight, the outside of the shop was simply decorated, we were welcomed upon entering, the dining room was large, clean, bright & interestingly decorated, the employees were friendly and helpful, our coffee and danish treats were delicious, reasonably priced, and had relaxing music playing.

Yelp
I love Kaladi coffee I was recommended to this place 10 years ago and I have never stopped going ..the coffee is absolutely delicious! I finally got to go to the location on broadway just recently and it's really nice.. yes they have two locations and both are great.. East Evans right by DU and South Broadway.. You won't be disappointed so yummy and the employees are all so nice upbeat and very friendly!

Yelp
Come here multiple times a week because my kid has lacrosse practice near by. The Kaladi syrup is one of my favorites in an iced latte. The WiFi is always thriving and the table set up is perfect for working. The shop is light and airy and not overly loud and crazy. The service is bar only and always super nice and helpful. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It was time that I re-appreciated this coffee spot was exactly what I thought (because I didn't even recall when the last time was when I utilized this business. Maybe I stopped by at the Broadway location within the last 6 months.) I needed a little "pick-me-up" in early afternoon today so I made a quick stop on my way to run some of my errands. To my surprise, the place was filled with people at its 80% capacity when I arrived. It's nice to see those like-minded people who also enjoy the so-called "afternoon caffeine boost". It sure was lively and yet, it wasn't noisy in any way. I opted for one of my go-tos: cappuccino. 12oz cup of cap is around $4.50 after tax. Not too bad, I thought. Service was good by the way; I was warmly greeted by a young lady at the ordering counter. And when my cap was ready, a young female barista (with a nice warm smile again) placed my drink at the pickup section. The cap was delicious; it truly hit the spot. Oh, let's not forget. I noticed their menu up above the ordering counter. It's such an intriguing look; if I'm not mistaken, it's a huge copper plate. I took a picture of it and uploaded in the photo section. Or is it a piece of wood? Please enlarge the photo to take a close look at it.

Yelp
Classic, old school coffee shop with great coffee. Our favorite is the small oat milk latte - in a coffee cup - if you enjoy your coffee in-house. The vibe here is all about coffee. And the vibe is good
google avatar

Briana E.

Yelp
My matcha was good, i wish they would of put more ice but i should've checked before I walked out! The vibes there were very chill and quiet My favorite part was the service from the guys there. They were very friendly and kind! Remember to support your local businesses

Yelp
FAVORITE COFFEE in DENVER!! This is our go to coffee spot in Denver and so happy they have multiple locations. Definitely try their kaladi syrup in a latte! You can't beat it!
google avatar

Francesca Z.

Yelp
10/10, everything from drip brews and espresso classics, to on tap cold coffee and unique, delicious pastries. It's nice to see a shop that has a patty counter filled with items the staff seem to like. The scones are especially tasty. Side note: great spot for local art! I got the coolest Mojo Jojo print, and there's always a rotation of new work to buy/view. Support local!

Yelp
Haven't done work here but I want to come back and study sometime because it seems like good vibes for it. The Kaladi Latte I had (I think that's what it was called) was delicious but expensive (as expected). Very kind baristas and not much sitting room because it's so busy.

Yelp
The coffee itself is amazing, and I'll probably keep going for that reason alone. But the service and cleanliness has really taken a dive. Dirty tables that don't get wiped down for hours, dirty spoon containers right next to the clean ones? And honestly, if you pay your employees so little that you have to make your pre-selected tips start at 25% and go to 35%,, and still not have enough support to bus or at least wipe down tables, you have a business model problem. I miss the old Kaladis!
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
makes me so sad to leave a not so positive review. this is my favorite coffee but this kaladis brothers has not gotten my order right the last three if not four times. tons of room left in americanos that wasn't asked for, mediums instead of larges, different flavors. so disappointing
google avatar

Lisa O.

Yelp
If you like Starbucks, you've come to the right place. Same crappy coffee. Over roasted, burnt flavor. Very seldom will a true coffee drinker want this stuff. I suppose if you load it up with syrups and sugars and creams and garbage, you won't have a clue how bad the actual coffee is. If you just want a cup of black coffee, this is not where to get it. Scorching hot, over roasted, over brewed. Not my thing. One star for a nice place and one star for service.
google avatar

Mallory S.

Yelp
Love this place for a quick espresso or kaladi latte! They have a quirky place with a good menu. Vegan pastries and milk, too!

Tad F.

Yelp
I've been buying my coffee here for years! The Peruvian Gold coffee is outstanding! The atmosphere maintains its college study gathering spot, with its youthful energy. The staff is super friendly and did I mention the coffee is really good here?!
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Friendly staff, some street parking available, spacious interior with lots of tables (only downside is that the high tables are seated super close to each other so hard to ignore others' conversations). Got a dirty chai (which was spicy but good), was allowed to use my own cup for 25 cents off. Would probably come again!

Yelp
I love coffee, and love trying different places. Kaladi is near University of Denver, and had a very chill atmosphere to hang out at. Features Art pieces on the wall that are for sale, adds a nice touch to the feel. The drip coffee was mid - it tasted very watery. I also ordered an oat milk latte, which tasted heavily like oat and not at all like espresso. The service was friendly. The place did lean on the dirty side of the scale, crumbs on tables, floors in need of cleaning, etc. If I were in college, it would be a nice place to study at.

Mike C.

Yelp
Hurts me today favorite fever coffee house is falling off. The strength of Kaladi has Always been great beans and quality baristas. Now it's mis-made drinks/ baristas looking on their phones while customers are waiting/ etc. Plus the dog treats are gone (from what I am told owner's decision because of cost) What? Hoping for a turnaround but my direct messages to to company have been ignored.

Yelp
I've been here a lot over the years, when I'm in this part of town. It's a great coffee shop in general, although the coffee can be a little hit or miss. On my last visit my latte tasted very bitter, unfortunately. I do appreciate the many allergy friendly bakery items they have on offer. But please stop charging extra for nondairy options! They don't cost any more than milk nowadays, and people with allergies shouldn't be penalized for this.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee, filthy canteen. I love the coffee at Kaladi which makes writing this review a bummer. Both Kaladi locations are filthy. While sitting at the Evan's location enjoying a cup of joe I looked around and noticed the window sills and floor were covered in years worth of dust and grime. The bathroom at the Broadway location looks like something from a 1970 gas station - the wall is tiled which should make cleaning easy but it looks as though it's never been cleaned (same with the toilet). It's disconcerting to think if the sitting areas and bathrooms that customers can see are that dirty, what are the food/drink areas like? Unfortunately, today was my last trip to Kaladi.

Yelp
There are so many cute coffee spots on Denver so passing by, we decided to stop in and give it a try. I ordered an iced Kaladi latte with a little extra house syrup and it was delicious and fresh, sweet, but sweetened naturally. Shop is spacious with a relaxed ambience and on site parking/street parking. I would absolutely return!
google avatar

Eli L.

Yelp
The coffee is ok. I had higher expectations. Will I be back, maybe. It's kinda dirty on the inside. Service is good.
google avatar

Jill L.

Yelp
My favorite coffee place! I love the Kaladi latte (light syrup called Kaladi dancer) and the staff is so friendly!
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
We love Kaladi! Our local coffee shop that serves as a great place to start the slow weekend or a spot to connect with people professionally. Lots of places to sit and great people. One barista named Carmen works there a lot and she always has the biggest smile on her face!!
google avatar

Anne R.

Yelp
Great coffee, service and ambiance. Great place to hang out and chill over a cup'o'jo. The baristas really know their beans and gave us great advice to brew our own at home. Thank you
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
I make a special weekly trip cross town to delight in a medium oat milk mocha from Kaladi's... it's actually my favorite here in Colorado ... I'm a local & I know whose rocking the best blend The staff are friendly people, especially Carmen!!
google avatar

Yelp
Kaladi Coffee Roasters is not very close to my house and, therefore, not the place I regularly purchase my coffee beans. However, when drinking the espresso I made this morning with the Peru Camarja Andes Gold beans I bought at yesterday, I vowed not to ever settle again for the inferior products available elsewhere and to indulge myself with Kaladi's premium beans roasted with their unique Fluid air- bed roasting technology. Beyond how delectable their product is I also like their business philosophy of excellence in all aspects of their business including service and ambience. Life's too short for mediocre food, wine and especially coffee. I won't be settling for second best in my coffee selections anymore. When visiting Kaladi's website I realized I don't need to worry about the logistical problem of obtaining Kaladi's coffee if I simply subscribe to regular deliveries of my favorite coffee. Voila- logistical issues solved! I'm now at Kaladi Cult member. I do buy a whole beans and grind them at home (something I believe is the consensus opinion among people knowledgeable in the subject is beans ground at home give one the best brewing outcome even if one sacrifices a little convenience). Cheers!

Yelp
Got the kaladi latte with oat milk and it was delicious, didn't stay around so I don't much about the ambiance. My friend who lives around here says it's her favorite coffee place.

Yelp
Walked in to grab a couple bags of whole bean coffee. My husband was standing at the door with my service dog. I was at the counter (2 feet away) wanting to pay and the chic behind the counter approached the register and told my husband that dogs were not allowed and he had to leave all without greeting me. We are not confrontational people and she completely caught us off guard with her staunch abrupt rudeness. She rang up the 2lbs of coffee I had and I paid. I told her that she should not have been rude to my husband and dog. She could have been a lot kinder to him and to me. I told her that is my service dog and she told me that "it" should have a vest on to warn everyone. I explained to her she should have ASKED if the dog was a service animal or a pet. She should not have just assumed. Let me inform you and her that a service dog does NOT need to have a vest on. I informed her of this and she proceeded to argue with me as I was walking out the door....in a VERY snide, snarky attitude she yelled out for me to have a nice day. Wow. It was the very first and last time I will ever go to Kaladi coffee. This is clearly a training issue for staff to be informed on service animals and not to be rude to customers. I am very disappointed in this place and will not return.

Francesca B.

Yelp
I love coffee! I have my favorite places, but always like trying new places. I was visiting in Denver about a month ago. I tried Kaladi on Evans since it was down the street from the place I was staying at. The coffee was very smooth, not acidic. The employees were very friendly. I bought a couple of bags of coffee to take home. I liked it so much I'm going to order some online!

Yelp
Service was great. Delicious drinks. Reasonably priced. Nice vibe. Neighborhood parking.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops in Denver! The staff is awesome, the coffee is unreal, and the seating area is so cozy. If you're looking for a good basic cup of coffee or for a fancy coffee drink, Kaladi is your spot for both. Sure to please coffee snobs and coffee newbs. I was introduced to Kaladi by a friend who used to study here (DU is pretty close by). We popped in to say hi when she was studying a couple years ago, and instantly fell in love with the place. Since then, I've used this spot for one-on-one meetings and whenever I visit the nearby parks, I make sure to stop in. I love that I can come by anytime of day and get the perfect drink and snack. Highly recommend the Kaladi Latte. I don't even know how to explain the syrup they use because it's unique to the shop, but all I can say is that it's sweet, but not too sweet. I ordered a size up, saved half of it in the fridge, and reheated the next day - still so good. Their dirty chai is also to die for. You pretty much can't go wrong with your order.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow. Theirs is some of the best coffee that I've ever had. I got a latte the first time that I came here, and was immediately hooked. Great flavor. Nice rich yet smooth flavor. Went back the second time the next week and got a little bit sweeter option with the Kaladi Latte. We were moving out of state in a few days and just had to get their coffee beans to take with us. I never do that, but these were too good to not get some to go. They have a great menu board with all of their beans, descriptions and flavor notes. They have a good selection of packaged beans in a freezer just inside the doors. So sad to have left this place behind, but so glad that we discovered them in the first place. They ship, so that is awesome!

Yelp
Listen, I'm not one to normally leave reviews, but I was really disappointed by Kaladi today... I've been going to Kaladi for years. It's the only place I buy beans and the coffee has always been good with great service. Today was my first negative experience and I'm sharing in the hopes that Kaladi can fix the problem and return to the high quality shop I know them to be. I went in this morning to get some beans for my aeropress and a cappuccino before class. The person at the front was polite as always, the person who ground my coffee for me was pleasant and helpful, but the barista working just seemed to not know what was going on. The woman ahead of me ordered a cafe au lait and he started to make it without steaming the milk first. She pointed out that it is supposed to be steamed so he dumped the drink and remade it. When he made my cappuccino, he over-steamed the milk, let it sit for a couple of minutes to separate, then just scooped the foam on top of the espresso. I was a barista at third-wave shops for years and that's just not a cappuccino. Kaladi's cappuccinos have always been balanced with a good consistency of milk, but this barista really let me down. I was in a hurry to get to class so I didn't have time to request it to be remade, but it just was not good at all. Kaladi, at the very least, needs to retrain this barista. I don't know if he got experience elsewhere and they did not train him how to properly make drinks or if this is his first coffee gig or what, but it was clear that his drinks are not meeting the same quality standards I'm used to at Kaladi. He was kind of tall with hair long enough to cover his ears and was wearing glasses. Kaladi has not lost a customer with me yet, I just hope they can get all of their baristas dialed in because I would hate to have to start seeking out my beloved cappuccinos elsewhere.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Good coffee the service was good and they where quick the ambience was very cozy. I highly recommend it
google avatar

Riley H.

Yelp
I love Kaladi. Great coffee and plenty of space for doing work, along with lots of outlets in case you need to charge a device. The only thing is that their baked goods run out almost immediately in the morning, so if you want one of their (amazing!) scones, you'll have to go pretty early.

M V.

Yelp
Excellent cappuccinos, regular and chilled coffees, and service and pricey is decent. These also have a discount card! Definitely our go to coffee place when in the area, even traveling up to 30 minutes to get there. See you soon!

Yelp
lavender latte is SO GOOD all of the workers are super nice. it was my first time here and i will be back!

An Đ.

Yelp
I like Kaladi just cause they're near DU and a good way to get a coffee fix when I need one. I tried their latte once and it was a little watery, which was alright. The employees are pleasant though, but I wished they would have made better drinks for that price. Tried their matcha latte today and really just wanted to cry. I paid almost $12 for a med size cup of matcha but then it's crumbly and bitter (I did ask for sweetener). I didn't think any drink should be $12?? But also I expected a $12 drink to be at least drinkable but this is just frustrating. I'm sure this is not even ceremonial grade matcha (since the bitter flavor is distinct) and they didn't even mix their powder up right.

Cheeky M.

Yelp
Another mediocre coffee place serving bitter, tasteless $$$$ sludge water in a generic setting

Mary E.

Yelp
Not only is the coffee at Kaladi Coffee Roasters stellar, but their customer service is even better. I stopped by Kaladi on my way out of Denver and left an iPad accessory behind. The staff went out of their way to ship my item all the way to my home in Oklahoma. They have a wonderful team!
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the quality of this coffee. And I'm not a coffee gal! I didn't realize what I'd been missing! And I have to say, the customer service was incredible. All of my questions were answered with a genuine smile and willingness to help! Thank you, Kaladi! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Once upon a time, I worked for an "Illegal" burrito place right down the street from Kaladi. I became a daily regular. Since leaving that burrito stand, I still drive out of my way and past many, many other coffee shops to stop at this one location. I keep reading negative reviews about customer service and as someone who lived and worked in the neighborhood for years... DU kids are the worst. DU attracts terrible children to their school and they beat up the people who work in those neighboring businesses. So imagine if you will taking care of hundreds of snot nosed little brats (and or their even worse parents) all day long, and it will rub off on you. Don't take it personally, these people really do give a damn, they have just had the life sucked out of them by ungrateful little rich kids. I drive out of my way to visit Kaladi because I love the people there. I love seeing Adam (Pony), Emily or Erin. They always make my day brighter. They are worth those extra miles! Love you guys and can't wait to see ya'll again and again and again....
google avatar

Heidi W.

Yelp
I love Kaladi! My husband and I have been coming here for close to 15 years, and it's by far our favorite local coffee shop. Great coffee, friendly staff, and a fun atmosphere. Like many other shops, they've also stopped using plastic straws, which is great. But as a hater of the paper straws that get soggy and ruin the coffee experience, I wish they would stock something metal to buy! I just returned from NYC where I snagged this pimp gold straw from Porto Rico Coffee, it's even engraved and branded for their shop! Kaladi, get yourself some snazzy customized metal straws so I can stop cheating on you with my Porto Rico one

Yelp
Early morning hours... 7 am to be exact. Since my work is nearby, I wanted to have a coffee and fresh pastries.. and it was good decision. Place was parsly occupied and order taken immediately. Had bunch of pastry choices and opted for blueberry scones and medium coffee. Coffee.. not too strong or weak. Easy drinking with some perks. Scones.. awesome. I'm gonna bring my cup to save $.25. Why not?
google avatar

Kelly O.

Yelp
woah. im not a coffee drinker. nevermind a plain, black coffee drinker. but when a coworker offers you some he brewed at 4am to keep the night shift rocking- you drink it. and lordy this stuff is good. he did the Guatemalan blend? it tastes like a warm, delicious hug.
google avatar

Stacy U.

Yelp
We were in town from CA and stopped in one early morning before adventuring out. I grabbed a Kaladi Latte and Banana Bread! I have been home for 3 days and I have been thinking about the Banana Bread every day! I dont know if it had brown sugar on the edges or what but it provided and yum crunch to it and brought just the right amount of sweetness. The coffee was also super delicious to pair the bread with!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
After living In Denver for decades and enjoying a dry cappuccino almost every morning here, before moving away, it's nice to visit periodically and see that nobody does a better job of training their baristas. Perfect every time. The best coffee shop--anywhere.
google avatar

Tyler A.

Yelp
I have popped in to Kaladi a couple times. Pros are that the location is fantastic right off Evans and very close to the main part of DU campus. The interior is retro industrial so lots of open space and it's very relaxing. Also the quite noise level is also great for working. (important for me.) They roast their own coffee which is great. It's actually the coffee that I drink at home now and is never bitter. I also think there matcha is top notch, they don't sweeten it at all which is great for me! On the other hand the coffee in the shop is almost always bitter, which I don't understand at all. I have also tried the Kaladi on Broadway and it's never bitter there. So I guess this is just an Evans location issue? Another problem is a trade off with the great location is the parking is horrible. I always have a hard time trying to find a spot close. Frankly this place is great besides those two issue. Good job Kaladi!
google avatar

Angel M.

Yelp
Came here Sunday morning at 9 and was surprised to find seating so easily! Being so close to DU and nearing the end of the semester, I figured it would be a student haven. By 10, the place had already filled up. I love their discount if you bring your own cup or order your drink "for here." I ordered an iced oat milk latte, but they were out of oat so I settled for soy. I would have loved to add flavor in there but I'll have to try the house syrup next time. The baristas were nice but busy with the morning rush. I am always on the hunt for the coziest coffee shops and this one is definitely on the list. I prefer the quaint rusticness of places like Kaladi over the modern chic coffee shops. The only thing holding it back from being cozier was the noise -- I could barely hear the music in my headphones over how loud it was.
google avatar

Devon D.

Yelp
This place is super trendy and cute on the inside. Really cool artwork, and a funky menu, with lots to offer on the tea and coffee side. I got the iced soy latte. It was excellent I love their espresso beans its smooth, flavorful. They also have almond milk if you don't like soy or regular. The only thing was the people that worked were not the friendliest. They served me very quickly but didn't send the warm and fuzzies most coffee places do. Keep up the speed and the yummy espresso though :)
google avatar

Jerry L.

Yelp
Fast, reasonably priced coffees with free shipping. Love their Rwanda Hingakowa beans smooth, no bitterness, "nectar of the gods"
