Yum! My wife suggested we check this new restaurant out since they offer Greek street food. Located convenient to Hwy. 421 we arrived shortly after noon on Saturday. The owners own other local favorites such as TJ's Deli, Duke's, The Sherwood, and Pizza Greco.
We walked in and were immediately impressed. The interior is decorated to make you feel like you are in the streets of Greece. The brightly colored decor is quaint and comfortable. Customers order at the counter and in addition to the digital menus there are menus to pick up and look over before ordering.
Neither of us are very familiar with Greek food so we took a few minutes to look over the menu. The menu consists of appetizers such as feta fries, Greek street corn, cheese fritters, spanakopita and a handful of other items. Entrees range from salads, skewers, carved meats, Gyro-Pita wraps, and family packs. Entrees can be made into a combo for an additional $4.50 with your choice of plain French fries, or a side Greek salad and a drink. The menu also explains that all prices include tax. Protein options are chicken, pork, beef, lamb, shrimp, or falafel.
I decided to order the traditional gyro which includes tzatziki, onion, tomato and a French fry garnish. I chose beef as my protein with no tomatoes on the gyro. I also opted to make it a combo with French fries and a bottled water. I also ordered an appetizer of the cheese fritters (traditional Greek style fried Gruyere cheese freshly grated and prepared), they sounded right up my alley! My wife ordered a chicken skewer and a shrimp skewer, both served with pita points (small pieces of pita), Kalamaki Sauce and Tzatziki. She also chose to make her meal a combo with a Greek salad and bottled water.
The young man behind the counter was friendly and helpful. We provided our name for the order and took a seat at one of the interior tables. There were several people in line behind us and it appeared the kitchen was well staffed and ready to fulfill the incoming orders. I should also mention, there are a few small tables which give customers the opportunity to eat outside on the sidewalk.
The kitchen area is clearly visible and looked very clean and well organized. We also couldn't help but notice someone preparing the Spanakopita (traditional village pie filled with spinach and feta) and it looked incredible. I am not someone who enjoys spinach but my wife vowed to try it at our next visit.
Our name was called after just a few minutes and we picked our order up at the counter, everything looked delicious. My wife really enjoyed the Greek salad and thought the skewers with the homemade Tzatziki and Kalamaki sauce was fantastic. I also enjoyed my gyro but since I am not a big yogurt fan I would probably order with the Tzatziki on the side next time. The cheese fritters were delicious but a little too much for one person. I took four of the six home and will enjoy them in my lunch this week.
We didn't have room to order dessert but we saw others order the Loukoumades (Handcrafted Greek Doughnuts) and they also looked delicious. We asked a couple sitting next to us how the doughnuts were and they said they were incredible. We've only tried Loukoumades at the Greek Festival and they assured us that these were even better! The menu shows they sell them in several sizes, the small batch includes 6 donut holes, the medium batch includes 9 donut holes, the large batch includes 12 donut holes and each order allows you to chose a glaze and topping. Glazes range from honey, chocolate hazelnut, Biscoff creme, and more, Toppings range from Ferrero, Biscoff cookie, peanuts, strawberry creme crumble, and more. Fun packs of the Loukomades can also be ordered in sizes ranging from 24-48.
We are excited to come back and also bring visiting family here since they are interested in exploring traditional Greek favorites.
