The 21 Best Restaurants In Palo Alto

"Located on the main drag of California Ave., Kali Greek Kitchen is almost a carbon copy of Souvla in the city. This fast-casual Greek spot serves juicy lamb pitas, salads with feta, large rice plates that will keep you full for hours, and a thick frozen Greek yogurt that's very creamy. The inside feels like a coworking spot circa 2017, so we recommend enjoying their pitas out on their permanent outdoor parklet-patio situation (especially now that California Ave. is car-free).  " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

Kali Greek Kitchen Review - Palo Alto - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Located on the main drag of California Ave., Kali Greek Kitchen is practically a carbon copy of Souvla in the city. This fast-casual Greek spot serves juicy lamb pitas, salads with feta, big rice plates that will keep you full for hours, and a (very) thick frozen Greek yogurt that is also very refreshing. The inside feels a little bit like a coworking spot circa 2017, so we recommend enjoying their pitas out on their outdoor parklet-patio situation (especially now that California Ave. is car free)." - Ricky Rodriguez

The food here is absolutely delicious. Everything tastes fresh and made to order with generous portions sizes. I found the plates to be perfectly balanced with so many delicious flavors combined into one meal. The restaurant itself is small but has a nice atmosphere and is perfect for smaller groups.

Google
This was SO good. I had the chicken salad, I added a beef skewer, ordered a side of fries, and later on ordered a cup of Greek coffee. The chicken was flavorful, the dressing was fresh, the beef skewer was my favorite! The servers were polite and the restaurant was very clean. My Greek coffee had probably 1/3-1/2 of it grounds but it still tasted good. 10/10. Next time I’m in Palo Alto, I’ll be going there for sure.

Google
Very fresh and well made food. A different take on ‘Greek’ than I’m used to, but for what it was, it was VERY good. A little overpriced for the portions. Good shaded outdoor seating. Chicken gyro w/fries Chicken rice plate Strawberry basil Kali lemonade Lemon garlic aioli and hot sauce dips ~$44.00

Josip Benko

Google
The place has a calm, quiet charm that makes it easy to settle in. A large tree provides just the right amount of shade, making the space feel cool and peaceful — a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal. The lamb pita was flavorful and well-prepared, and the Greek yogurt with honey and nuts made for a simple but satisfying finish. Altogether, a lovely, unpretentious experience in a relaxed setting.

We went for a lunch. The restaurant had both vegetarian and non vegetarian menu. I had sea bass fillet which was very fresh and tasty. My friend had vegetarian wrap, it was really nice. The pricing was reasonable

Google
Bad service, great food. Please dont tell customers that they are wrong and insist their ordering process is absolutely obvious when instructions and placements have room for improvement. Fish is amazing, rice is good, Lamb is good, fries are normal,

Katrina Wong

Google
Amazing Greek food. Authentic, high quality, fresh. The fish pita was absolutely so good! SO refreshing. They use very high quality fish here. THIS IS THE BEST FISH I’VE EVER HAD!!! Indoor and outdoor seating. You order on the kiosk screen and then sit down and they bring the food!

Maggie De La Torre

Google
Kali Greek Kitchen is a true gem! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with care—but the standout for me is their fish salad. It’s absolutely delicious—light, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and every visit feels like a little escape to the Mediterranean. If you’re looking for healthy, satisfying Greek food, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I have experience two firsts here at Kali Greek Kitchen - both surprising and delightful! After eating at several Greek restaurants, I found this place down California Street in Palo Alto. The first surprise was the Roasted Red Beet Hummus. Normally hummus has a slightly bitter aftertaste, but I found none of it here. The blending of the roasted red beets imparted an earthy flavor with a slightly sweet finish - I absolutely enjoyed this! The second surprise is related to the hummus. With it came cut bite-sized strips of pita. What was surprising was whose freshness of that pita - warm, supple, moist and easy to tear! Some places the pita is as tough as jerky. Here at Kali, the pita seems freshly made, served right out of the oven. Paired beautifully with the roasted red beet hummus, the fluffy pita just melted in my mouth! Oh, so delightful! My wife ordered a Chicken Rice plate (my apologies for not having a photo of this, as she was so hungry, she delved in right away!), which came with white rice with a bit of pilaf mixed in to give a wonderfully cheeky texture to the rice, and a nice Greek salad - cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet onions and olives - light, crisp and refreshing. The chicken was tender and juicy. Whichever reviewers mentioned their chicken was dry was certainly mistaken. And another reviewer complained bitterly about everything being very salty. I could not find anything further than the truth. The meat was, I thought, lightly seasoned and flavorful. I look forward to eating here again soon!

Yelp
I've been ordering from them for a while, and their pita bread is unforgettable--absolutely delicious! The chicken plate is flavorful but a bit on the greasy side. This isn't the place for a "clean eating" meal, given the rich sauces and fatty cuts of chicken. Overall, it's a decent spot, especially if you're craving something indulgent, and don't care about dieting.

Yelp
I ordered the Chicken Rice Plate for delivery at the office so service or ambiance doesn't apply. Overall, the meal was just very mid. The chicken skewers were dry, the rice was salty and the minimal amount of veggies and half a pita were soggy. I try to remember that this is delivery, but at $17.50, not something I'll order again.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with a friend on a Sunday. I ordered the chicken rice plate, while she got the fish salad. The fish in the fish salad was delicious! The sea bass was absolutely delicious. I appreciated that the side salad for the chicken rice plate was a bit different from the usual - it was a mix of marinated cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and red onions with some type of cheese and the rice was also really good. The chicken was also sitting atop some pita that was so unexpectedly good! Unfortunately, the chicken itself was the worst part, juts not super high quality tasting. For the price point, would definitely recommend the fish! Service was ok, not super friendly but got the order taken and brought the food out.

Yelp
Super good and chill and healthy! The pita wraps are like the perfect size, and they were great about removing or adding different ingredients. The rice was so yummy, the chicken mad tender. The salad was slightly meh tbh but eats to scarf down too
google avatar

Tamara A.

Yelp
got the lamb rice plate. the lamb was very tasty. I noticed a lot of people were getting the salads and they looked delicious. I think I will try that next time.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the more Kali I eat, the less I like it. Grabbed a chicken plate the other day, and started with a bite of rather salty rice. As it would turn out, the salty rice was the least salty thing in the dish. The salad was covered in salty cheese and salty olives, and the chicken skewer was salty too. Now obviously, I understand that salt enhances flavour, but even as a salt lover, this was far too much!

Yelp
Kali greek kitchen famous for their greek cuisine. They have a beautiful ambiance with greece theme. I have ordered their chicken salad , it was so delicious and mouth watering . You can also try their chicken pita plate

Yelp
I never heard of this place before until they opened a location on Stanford campus. My friend and I met up here for a quick catch up dinner and I got the chicken salad while she got lamb ala carte. The location is in old downtown PA and parking is available around the streets as the main California street was closed for outdoor dining. Ordering was simple, you can order outside and inside with a tablet or directly with a staff. You grab a number and wait for the food at your table. Service was quick and food was hot. I really enjoyed my salad as it was flavorful and citrusy. Chicken was tender and well seasoned. Definitely will come back to try the other items.

Yelp
Great spot for a affordable (especially in the Cal Ave area) meal with quality food and pretty healthy options. I got a chicken rice platter and the chicken was very flavorful and juicy and the rice was interesting- mixed with orzo and flavored with butter. The plate also came with a serving of pita bread and greek salad, so I was very happy with the amount of food I got for the price. Pretty casual spot where you order at the counter then the food gets delivered to your table. Eyeing their Kali feast to try next time to try all of their different meat options, as well as their frozen Greek yogurt!

Yelp
This was a great spot for my group of friends with a variety of dietary needs! I ordered the lentil soup and a beef pita. My vegetarian friend ordered a veggie plate, which had a white creamy sauce and fried zucchini balls. My vegan friend had a vegan version with a red sauce (similar to a tomato chutney) and potato balls. We were all satisfied! The food came out in approx 7 mins. The atmosphere is relaxed, as you order at the counter, fill your own waters, and bring it to your table. My lentil soup was yummy and filling. The only thing I'd maybe change is the layer of oil on top. The beef pita had so much meat, so that was pleasant as well.
google avatar

Dalia V.

Yelp
I was so impressed by both the food and the staff. When I ordered, the cashier was very polite and happy to accommodate my dietary restriction (removing cheese from the red beet hummus). The hummus was fresh, vibrant, and delicious, and the portion was well worth the price. Our waiter also brought us water cups when we didn't notice the self-serve station. I will happily come back soon! Food: 10/10 Drinks: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 7/10 Vegan-friendly: 8/10

Yelp
The place has some nice seatings outside. The food is ok. We ordered eggplant purée, chicken pita, and beef pita. The eggplant puree with pita bread was very good. That was my favorite item. The chicken pita was a bit weird. The pita was good but it was stuffed with chicken, lettuce and fruit; very summery but tasted ok. The beef pita was pretty good. The beef was a bit dry. Overall 3 stars.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with Kali Greek! I constantly crave their rice plates because the flavors of their rice, chicken, beef, and lamb are so deliciously and made with high quality ingredients. The rice alone is something I could never get tired of. Fluffy, buttery rice with roasted orzo and chickpeas expels this amazing aroma. This is the tastiest rice I've ever had. This with the juiciest seasoned chicken skewer and creamy dill sauce creates the perfect bite. I also love the beef kebab, it's seasoned perfectly with a blend of savory spices. Aside from their entrees, they also have incredible desserts. The frozen Greek yogurt on the menu caught my eye before anything else and I wanted to try all of their different toppings! The nice thing is that you can customize it to your liking! I tried the honey with candied walnuts one and added cherries. If you like tart froyo, this is incredible. Other desserts are the baklava, which is flaky yet chewy, and loukoumades, which are a must try! These mini donuts are covered in a honey syrup and crumbled walnut topping. Kali Greek is on California Ave with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There are two contactless ordering kiosks, grab a table number, find a table, and the food will arrive at your table. The staff and owners are super friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
I got the chicken salad as a quick lunch and had the best experience! I ordered on the tablet outside the restaurant and then grabbed a number to put on my table while I waited at a table outside. The salad was very good! It had oranges, mizithra cheese, chicken, shredded carrots and purple cabbage (it also comes with beets but I opted for none) . The dressing was a lemon oregano vinaigrette. I got a side of tzatziki as well. There's seating inside and outside. It's a great place to have lunch on a sunny day!

Yelp
cute, cozy spot for a casual meal! they serve a wide variety of greek dishes, drinks, and desserts at a really reasonable price. the interior is small but very clean & comfortable and doesn't feel crowded at all! you order at the kiosk or the front counter and grab a number, then take a seat. the service is very fast and friendly here! my friends and i tried the lamb pita wrap, the fish rice plate, and chicken salad. my lamb pita wrap was pretty good and well seasoned with plenty of veggies, but i do wish the lamb was more tender (it was a little chewy/tough). my friends enjoyed their meals too! we also tried the loukoumades and frozen greek yogurt - their machine broke or something but they gave us what was left of the yogurt and refunded us so free yogurt!! it was super nice of them and the yogurt was delicious, so it worked out. the donuts were so crispy, soft inside, and coated in sweet honey - so good!! overall id really recommend this place - everything was delicious, the service was perfect, the interior was so comfortable and cozy, and the prices are incredible for palo alto. such a good catch-up spot - we definitely stayed and talked for longer than we should have (sorry), and will probably be back!

Yelp
I had a vegan pita from an office catering order, and it was delicious. The potato patties have a really really nice texture. Love that they offer vegan options. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Love the food at Kali Greek- so flavorful, from the whipped feta to the buttery Kali rice and the perfectly seasoned fish plates.
google avatar

Ozzie P.

Yelp
Ordered a chicken pita without dairy and a side of fries with no salt. Wait time wasn't too long. As I got back to work and ate, the pita was fine but the fries were heavily salted when I specially requested no salt. With the picture below, you can see a sling of hair oiled up on the bottom of the box. Stopped eating these as soon as I saw this. Might not come back after this.
google avatar

Jessica Z.

Yelp
Really liked what I got, and they came out really fast! My friends got the salads and they were huge - definitely worth the money in terms of portion and taste. I got the chicken pita, and I enjoyed all the flavor combinations, but thought that adding beets made it taste a little weird. I really liked how tender the chicken was, and I thought it was seasoned pretty well. Overall, a great spot for a quick meal but also healthy and tasty!
google avatar

Allen W.

Yelp
Went there for a team lunch. Service was fast and it was nice sitting outside. Menu is not large but has the essentials, with veggie options too! The food was alright. Got the lamb rice plate, and the meat was a little overcooked for my taste, and quite savory. There was pita under the meat, but it was super greasy, so that was not super appealing. They do include a good amount of dip, and I liked the little salad on the side to help cut through the fat - something pickled may have helped as well.
google avatar

Melicious B.

Yelp
The food was great and it came out fast. I got the lamb pita and the chicken plate for the kids. The chicken tasted so good and cooked perfectly. The salad and rice was great too. They also brought out paper and coloring pencils for the kids! They said we were the first to get it. It's a new thing they're trying. I appreciated it very much. Anything to keep the kids distracted for a few minutes so I can get a few bites of food before it gets cold The outdoor sitting was good but our table was unstable so that was a little annoying. And it was a little too sunny but I think I could have told them to open the umbrella that was by our table... that's my bad. Next time!

Hannah B.

Yelp
They serve their entree salads in something approaching a mixing bowl. Do you know how hard it is to find an actual entree sized salad, especially served in a form and dish that lend itself to eating, not chasing awkwardly sized leaves across a plate? I'm here for it and I come back for the salads any time I am in need of a delicious one-bowl meal that is guaranteed to hit the spot.
google avatar

Yelp
One of our favorite local restaurants in Palo Alto. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned. Favorite dish is the grilled white fish salad -- perfectly seasoned and grilled. Light and delicious. We love the frozen yogurt, not too sweet -- the best froyo around! And their fries are thin, perfectly salted and like a cleaner version of McDonald fries. Decor is Mediterranean modern and chic. Lots of outdoor seating and super friendly service. Love this place !

Emily W.

Yelp
I ordered a moussaka and a beef/chicken combination plate that was take out. I was very disappointed when I brought the meals home since the moussaka was burned and dried up and the beef and chicken were dried out and hardened! Since it was ordered later in the afternoon, they gave me the dregs of what they had leftover in the kitchen. I think this is unprofessional and taking advantage of the situation since I couldn't return it. I would think they would take more pride in what they serve!
google avatar

Agnes D.

Yelp
Wow!! Amazing meat plates! We ordered the Lamb plate and fish plate and they were both equally amazing! The lamb was tender, perfectly seasoned, not salty which i love! Same with the seabass! Both came with sides of rice and greek salad. The lemon soup was refreshing! Just the right amount of lemon with rice and chicken in it! Reasonable prices. Parking lot in the back.
google avatar

Yen L.

Yelp
A charming & cozy spot for casual Mediterranean food with reasonable prices. I enjoyed the order-at-the-counter style and self-service for drinks/utensils. The food was fresh and tasty. Big portions for the salads. We tried several dips, including the beet dip and tzatziki -- the beet dip definitely stood out! I had the white fish salad for my entree, which turned out to be a good-sized portion and was quite filling. My dining partners had the chicken plates, which came with a Greek salad, chickpea-rice, and and a side dipping sauce. The food was non-greasy, which I really appreciated. I was stuffed by the end of the meal and would definitely be back to try the Greek Yogurt!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Fast casual Greek place that I wish was closer to my home! Because I'd literally be here at least 1-2 a week for their fish salad (or plate). Friendly service and absolutely delicious fish with crispy skin on a bed of romaine with oranges, olives, carrots and radish in a light lemon sauce. I added the lemon and garlic aioli as an additional sauce but the salad would be just a good without it.!Perfection for a quick lunch or dinner.

Yelp
The Beef Pita is hands down a favorite of mine. We make a pit stop to Kali Greek Kitchen almost every time we're in Palo Alto for errands. It's quick, made-to-order, delicious, quality food worth trying. We order: + Beef Pita, as stated above: the beef kebabs have an interesting tangy taste to it which I love. It's super juicy and packed with flavor. The owner even mentioned they only use quality, organic meat. Yum! + Lamb Pita: a hubby favorite + Lamb Plate: a hubby favorite. He orders the sauces on the side to dunk the lamb pieces into, + Zucchini Fritters: These fritters are delicious with the sauce it comes with. Hubby and I share these. For being fried, these fritters surprisingly don't drip excess oil. I highly recommend this. + Potato Croquettes: Potatoes and tomato. This croquette was delicious and worth a try. The owner and staff are super friendly. They always stop by to see if you've enjoyed the food. The restaurant is clean and tidy. I highly recommend checking out this spot for your next Greek craving.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good spot on cal Ave. I do think it's a lot better than Mediterranean wraps. The service is quick, good and self serve water. Try it out.

Yelp
Snagged a Chicken Rice Plate and while I think the portion could be better, the taste was fantastic. Overall, a very healthy spot with a great balance of vegetables, protein, and carbs. Chicken Rice Plate - rice, vegetables, chicken, pita, and yogurt sauce. Chicken was seasoned extremely well. Each bite was not only flavorful, but the chicken was tender and juicy as well. I'm not a big fan of sauce so I didn't use much of the yogurt sauce which probably would've improved the experience more. Pita on it's own was plain so the yogurt would've helped, but I've had the luxury of more special pita with sesame seeds or cheese which is influencing my perspective.
google avatar

Alexia I.

Yelp
I have not had many dining experiences in my life where I've finished a meal and want to stand up and applaud. This is my second time dining here and both times, I've wanted to do just that. I'm a Greek food LOVER and this place always blows me away. The rice is quite possibly some of the best I've ever had, the meat is always cooked to perfection, the zucchini fritters are something otherworldly. And tonight I had the frozen Greek yogurt for the first time- WOW. If you like REAL Greek froyo, a must get. Thank you Kali for always being so above and beyond, from the food to the staff!!!

Yelp
Delicious! Lamb meat is moist and rice w chickpeas is a nice spin. Wine is good. I highly recommend and will be coming back!
google avatar

Denise L.

Yelp
Great little spot on California Avenue! Plenty of seating outdoors and quaint inside. Really modern and clean, and the service is exceptional from all the staff! Had the pita combo and got the lamb pita, french fries, and a soda. Food came out quickly and was really fresh. The lamb didn't have as much flavor as I'd like, and left quite a bit of an oily mess on my plate, but was very good quality. Fries were standard, but ate it all with a side of tzatiki. Their desserts looked delicious but was way too full to eat another bite. Prices are really fair for Palo Alto.
google avatar

Jung A.

Yelp
What a cute gem in PA! The place definitely gives out Souvla vibes. You order at the counter and they bring food to your table when it's ready. We ordered a beef plate, a lamb plate, zucchini fritters, and fries. All were fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. The portions were really generous, too. There are a decent amount of table both indoors and outdoors and the place is clean. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick lunch.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
I've been searching for a Souvla-equivalent in Peninsula/South Bay and this is it! The menu has great variety - they have pita wraps, salads, and plates with chicken, lamb, beef, and vegetarian options. The lamb and chicken are both so good - juicy, tender, and flavorful. We got the lamb salad & Kali Feast to try a bit of everything. Everything was delicious with generous portions. We also tried to frozen greek yogurt. It was a bit too icy for my liking, so I will probably stick with the main entree items in the future. There's a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Service is super friendly and fast. Can't wait to be back!!
google avatar

Akira T.

Yelp
Decent food. Really like their fish rice plate! You either order using the kiosk or at the front desk and they will bring food to your table. They have both outdoor and indoor seatings. Generally quite and nice vibe.

Alan H.

Yelp
My wife and I are regulars, the consistently excellent and the owner is incredibly pleasant and welcoming. Thank you for bringing joy to the area. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Anna Z.

Yelp
I had the vegan pita wrap for a light lunch and it was wonderful. My friend enjoyed his lamb pita wrap. The vegetables in the wrap were very fresh and pita was the perfect thickness. We both finished our wraps because they weren't too large, but a good size. We ordered fries to share, but they were slightly unsatisfying and tasted almost like campus cafeteria fries. I also had the strawberry lemonade drink which was refreshing. My friend wasn't a huge fan of the frappe he ordered. Overall, this is a great place for a quick bite! The service was friendly and welcoming; there is ample outdoor seating as well as tables and chairs indoor. We went in on a Thursday afternoon at 1pm and was surprised to see it so busy (probably from all the offices nearby).

Jaya S.

Yelp
Absolutely love their zucchini fritters salad! Fresh ingredients & like the casual vibe.
google avatar

Lydia K.

Yelp
Food is delicious and price is reasonable. I got a chicken salad and I really liked it. Not heavy on the dressing and juicy, warm pieces of chicken on top. It was about $15 including tax. My friend got a wrap with some spicy sauce on the side. He said it tasted good. We also shared a frozen Greek yogurt with baklava that was a around $6.50. The yogurt reminded me of yougurtland's plain tart, and the amount of baklava was such a nice touch. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
First time here and this place exceeded my expectations. The chicken rice plate was amazing. Staff is also very attentive and nice. Hope to come back soon.
google avatar

Bob F.

Yelp
Okay, time to update my review of this place now that I finally got a chance to come here again. Vegetarian wrap: 5/5. This is one of the most delicious and unusual vegetarian sandos that I have had. Definitely a winner. See my earlier review if you are curious about what is in it (or look at the menu Mr. Lazypants!). Zucchini fritters: 5/5. Yum. Really yum. The dipping sauce upgrades these from a 4.5 to a 5. I just wish this was closer to where I live--and that is probably the best compliment that can give any restaurant.
google avatar

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Service: This is a counter-service restaurant, and they bring your order to you - good service! Ambience: Cute - nicely decorated and clean. Good for a quick bite. Food: I got the lamb plate, which was delicious! The lamb was served on a bed of pita with a side of rice pilaf and greek salad. Value: Fairly good value - my plate was $18 I believe, and came with a generous helping of meat. Overall: I'd come back here again if I were in the area!
google avatar

Emily O.

Yelp
Yummmm!!! Had Kali Greek kitchen for lunch for the first time today and it was so good! I got the chicken salad and a side of hot sauce. The hot sauce is delicious on the chicken, and combined with the pickled onions and salad, is amazing. Can't wait to try more!!
google avatar

Vivian K.

Yelp
Greek food is always a go to favorite, the Avgolemono Soup with lemon chicken & rice was a bit on the salty side. The Frozen Greek Yogurt is light and tangy which is perfect to contrast the sweet syrupy Loukoumades. If you prefer the frozen yogurt to be more on the creamy side try the one from Nick the Greek!
google avatar

Srujan N.

Yelp
A good and reliable place to get lunch. I like their zucchini fritters rice plate and their food quality is solid. I mostly prefer to get takeout here but they do have indoor and streetside seating. Slightly more expensive than comparable options in the area.

Krishnakanth R.

Yelp
Quality of beef wasn't good. Just didn't feel fresh. The person taking the order lacked basic courtesy. Was argumentative. Grossly overpriced for the type of food and service they offer

Yelp
6/26/21 My friend and I finished a hike in the area and we were looking for some food. We decided on Kali Greek Kitchen since we had our dog with us and it was the middle of the day and they were open. The street that the restaurant was located on was blocked off so we parked two blocks away and walked from there. They have outdoor seating so that was great for the pup. I went in to order and here's what we got: 1. Lamb and beef pita (his) 2. Fish pita (mine) There's a self-service water station inside the restaurant. We didn't have to wait long at all. The friendly cashier brought our food out in less than 10 minutes. We were also given tzatziki sauce and paprika aioli with our food. Both the pitas tasted so fresh and delicious. I didn't think the fruit would go well with the fish but it did. I think both sauces went well with my pita as well. The service was minimal but it was excellent. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.
