5 Chicago Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know, October 2025 | Eater Chicago

"Following successful runs in La Grange and Wicker Park, Indian restaurant Kama has come to West Loop’s Restaurant Row. The new flagship location offers South Asian flavors through an international lens, paired with creative cocktails in a space designed to evoke modern India. Executive chef Esteban Nuñez whips up dishes like lamb ragu over rice noodles and short rib nihari, while the bar program features house-infused syrups with Indian spices and playful cocktails such as an apricot spritz served with Pop Rocks." - Jeffy Mai

Oh man, where can I start! We recently stopped by Kama to get a taste of their Indian Fusion dishes, and I can happily say it did not disappoint one bit. All the dishes that we had had a perfect balance of creativity, good flavors, and great presentation. One of our favorite dishes that we had was the mussels in tamarind coconut broth. It genuinely is to die for. The short rib dish with phyllo-wrapped biryani was another hit. The crab coconut risotto was a great addition, full of spice, sweetness, and new flavor that we really enjoyed. Our server, Warda, made our experience at Kama enjoyable. She was knowledgeable, kind, and personable. Hats off to Kama’s talented Chef Esteban. His dishes are surely going to make a mark on this great and beautiful restaurant.

I was truly impressed by the cuisine. These were hands down the best lamb chops I’ve ever had. The food is a true explosion of flavors — familiar dishes elevated with Indian-inspired spices and techniques. Absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and enjoys discovering new flavors. The cocktails are outstanding as well — a very innovative take on classic cocktails. Highly recommended!!!

The lamb was delicious and the drinks were good. But it felt like this location just opened. During happy hour the staff seemed a bit confused and had to double check with others. But they were very nice. They probably just need a little more time.

“What a beautiful space with exceptional service. Verta was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly cared for from the moment we arrived. The food was outstanding — we especially loved the klucha, and both the halibut and lamb were absolutely superb. Every dish was prepared with such balance and depth of flavor. I absolutely loved my experience here, and the prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality and ambiance. A wonderful dining experience all around — can’t wait to return.”

Best restaurant in Chicago, hands down! All Kama locations are amazing, but this one is next level. The new menu is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. Great vibe, amazing service — definitely a must-visit!

Loved everything about this place! The Indian food was insanely good — full of flavor and super fresh. The atmosphere is cozy but still modern, and the staff were so kind and attentive. It’s the kind of spot you tell your friends about and come back to again soon.

My wife and I chose Kama West Loop to celebrate our anniversary, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and celebrated. Every single person we interacted with was incredibly knowledgeable—not just reading off a menu, but truly understanding the dishes, the flavors, the inspiration, and how everything comes together. Their passion for the food was obvious and contagious. Special shout-out to Jeremiah, who was absolutely fantastic—attentive, personable, and incredibly well-versed in the menu. He elevated the entire experience. Now let’s talk about the food—wow. The lamb shank deserves its own standing ovation. It was fall-off-the-bone tender, rich, perfectly seasoned, and cooked with such care that every bite felt intentional. Easily one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever had. You could taste the craftsmanship and attention to detail in every dish that hit the table. What really set the night apart was how seamless everything felt. The pacing, the explanations, the recommendations—it all came together to make us feel like our anniversary truly mattered to the entire team. It wasn’t just dinner; it was an experience. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate something special—an anniversary, a milestone, or even just a night you want to remember—Kama West Loop is it. We left full, happy, impressed, and already talking about when we’re coming back. Thank you to the entire Kama team for making our anniversary unforgettable. We’ll absolutely be back.

Had dinner at Kama last night and wow — It was amazing! The Cashew Pepe and Butter Chicken were so flavorful! The cocktails are seriously some of the best in Chicago. Will definitely come back with friends!

Yelp
Hands down one of the best meals we've had in a while!! The staff was so friendly and accomodating. Cocktails were really good + complimentary champagne! We had the kulcha and lamb chops to start which were both amazing. Then we shared the butter chicken, side rice, side garlic naan, and dal makhani (my personal fav).

Yelp
I really did want to like Kama based on reviews I had heard of their LeGrange location. Turns out the menu for both locations is also quite different and Sadly, West Loop missed the mark. I went with colleagues on a weeknight and we were able to get seated right away even with no reservations . It is a large space and there were quite a few diners on both sides of the restaurant. We had one server for all the tables on our larger side of the restaurant and he was definitely overwhelmed and it impacted service. For our table besides drinks, we ordered lamb chops, the butter chicken, kulcha, dal makhni, okra, goan mussels, coconut crab risotto, and the halibut moilee. Essentially we got to try a lot of the menu. Given they don't have a tandoor, the lamb chops totally missed the mark and lacked both char and flavor that comes from the tandoor. Hence they also don't have tandoori roti on the menu and I am not sure how they prepare their nan and kulcha, in the absence of a traditional coal tandoor. The butter chicken was with bones (original recipe in India) but not the easiest to split and share when dining with work colleagues. The coconut risotto was the highlight of the meal for me and was very flavorful, except it's not really an Indian dish per se. our table did enjoy the mussels. Overall, an ok meal and sadly Kama missed the mark for me. One of the owners was around that day so I shared my feedback and he was receptive to it so I am hoping they can make some tweaks to their menu and I look forward to being back then.

Yelp
The space itself is gorgeous and has such a great vibe. The service was attentive in the sense that they were polite and professional, but not particularly present. We waited so, so, so long between courses, and it felt like no one was really checking in or keeping an eye on the table. When the food finally came, the flavors just didn't mash for us. I can appreciate the creativity and intention behind the dishes, but the combinations weren't quite the right mix, nothing terrible, just not cohesive or balanced in a way that made the meal enjoyable. Overall, beautiful spot and kind staff, but the pacing and flavor pairings missed the mark.

Yelp
Soooo delicious! The butter chicken is unreal and prepared for days before. The crab coconut risotto was also delicious and the garlic naan. Very nice spin on Indian food and not too spicy. Very good service they brought my champagne for my birthday. Very nice inside as well with plenty of seating!

Yelp
Very very slow on a week day night.... The service was attentive but very very slow. I was able to switch my pasta( very salty) for a risotto but it was still very salty... the lump crab was cold. happy hour only had snacks not actually partial main course. Pisco sour was small despite in a rather large glass... I have to say the la grange location was more memorable

Yelp
Had a wonderful experience at this new location. Could not believe my tastebuds. Best lamb chops in the city hands down, butternut squash curry is out of this world and the pasta omg the pasta was so yummy. I had one of their cocktail special some sort of riff on milk punch - amazing. Ambiance is airy and festive - great for celebrations. Service was great- could have been more profesional, but I think it was just very busy. Great place to have contemporary Indian food.

Yelp
Bad anniversary dinner vibes ! Ordered veg kulcha, got lamb kulcha . And gobi pakora was like a tennis ball. Worst food & awful service. Skip this place, trust me! Worst food ever!

Yelp
Disgraceful fees! How can a brand new restaurant claim that they can't put honest prices on the menu? "As a way to offset rising costs, we have added a 3.25% surcharge to all checks." Just price your menu truthfully!

Missy K.

Yelp
Great atmosphere!!! Loved the short rib, cauliflower app, lemon rice. Great service, cool vibe.

Yelp
Outstanding! We loved everything about Kama. The ambiance, service, and drinks (!) were excellent. We asked our waiter for recommendations and he didn't steer us wrong. Between two of us, we split two appetizers, two large plates (we had leftovers) and one dessert. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Food was awful. Unnecessary and unappealing spice blends in every item. Most of their decent items from other locations aren't available. Portions were very tiny for the prices. Tried 7 items on the menu and would only recommend 1, but not even worth it for the price.

Yelp
This is an amazing spot for a date night or family dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and they have great cocktails. We had the Kulcha, butter chicken, and lamb ragu. It was all amazing - my boyfriend and I agreed that we'd come back just to have the Kulcha again. Can't miss, amazing new spot in West Loop.
