Summary of Review for those with limited time: No electricity and water at points (5 hours +), Poor customer service no one dealt with our complaints and run down complex very little like the pictures advertised.||||Kamala Resort and Spa is a classic case of a catfish. The pictures are lovely, the facilities look enticing and it looks modern and new. Perfect for a budget 4 star, which it claims to be. However, when we arrived we were greeted by a limited English receptionist who ran through the basics in an impersonal manner and with a attitude 'Ive done this a thousand times before'. Well most guests wouldn't remember everything she said, as the building has a complex set of lifts and different blocks, so it would be nice if she did it with care and courtesy for the guests to grasp the layout of the hotel. We then proceeded to our room, on first sight, room D15, looks the part and resembles the pictures, and we were relatively pleased with our spacious and clean room. The first thing me and my partner wanted to do was shower before heading out to Kamala Beach, this was to be the most tedious hour and a half stint of holiday. We turned the modern looking shower on but noticed the bottom nob which controlled the temperature did not turn properly and got stuck before we could get to a colder setting. This meant the shower temperature was at a constant boiling temperature, after 20 minutes of fiddling around and half wet from testing a shower, we gave up and called reception. She responded like she had heard the problem before immediately saying 'SHOWER? ah yes i send some one now' as if its a common issue with this room, perhaps even the building. Following this two kind gentlemen came up and fiddled around with it, eventually saying 'fixed' and to my surprise the temperature was cold. I asked them to show me how they got it to cold and they just said 'turn' and pointed towards the now miraculous cold setting they had placed it on. They left and once the shower had been turned off, my partner went to turn it back on, however the exact same issue arose with the turning mechanism becoming stiff and not budging to the cold side. At this point we were tired from the 23 hours of travelling and in dire need of a shower, food and sleep. So I called reception and they changed our room. This was done relatively timely and at our convenience to be fair to the hotel. Our new room was a different layout (not sure if an upgrade or downgrade, as smaller bathroom (no bath.... but then again we gained a microwave + a small kitchen surface).... this room looked promising and we settled in and went out, however it should be noted that during the day the electricity would flicker on and off, sometimes 3-4 times a minute sometimes not for an hour. ||||We started our new day by visiting the pool, where we hoped to use the facilities offered on their advertisement, however the hot tub was out of order and the saunas were closed, whilst the gym and pool were old and run down, with a dire need of some maintenance and an upgrade on the gym equipment. However there was nothing super bad about this and we just tried to enjoy experience but it definitely was catfishy and not what was advertised. ||||Day 4 of my stay and we've managed to be out of the hotel as much as possible as its not exactly a pleasant experience for the money and expectations we had. This day was a rainy day with high winds, and we woke up to no power. My partner walked down to reception in the rain and informed them we had no electricity. We had food in the fridge, no AC, no ability to shower, no lights. So the matter was quite urgent and required something more than just 'sorry the power is down for the Kamala area'. No time scale, no apologises, no proposed solutions for our shower/food in fridge situation. If you're are offering a Service which includes electricity and someone is on holiday and needs this to function or they pretty much lose a day of holiday, then this needs to be upheld. Anyway we ventured out to see if we could find somewhere with electricity and WiFi, and nearly every place i passed had electricity, including our own hotel lobby, the WiFi is even still on at the hotel. So i came to the conclusion it wasn't the whole of Kamala, at least not the parts i went to. More than likely it was the hotel block ,or just even our floor. Anyway as we were going on a trip that day we had to shower using baby wipes and in humidity with no AC you can bet that wasn't a pleasant experience.||||||Even if we were to believe the receptionists version of events why is there WiFi and power in the lobby, my guess is back up generator, or off the grid power. You have to ask yourself why this isn't the case for the rooms. The hotel chooses to use the main power grid for Kamala and if they're blaming the 'company' for the outage then that is between them and the electricity company, I'm focusing my complaint to them as I'm staying in a room and paying them for basic amenities and to be honest considering what was advertised and the money paid we should be receiving a lot more than mere basics. It was obvious the hotel was having power problems even prior to the rain and wind, we had short power outages daily and sometimes hourly. ||||Basic business etiquette and service shows you must compensate or at least provide sympathy or solutions towards a guests problems. What kind of hotel business blames a 3rd party for not providing a service. Yes they can complain to them in private but ultimately my contract/dispute is with the hotel , not an electricity company.||||Day 5:||||We wake up to no water, so that meant no flushing our toilet after we had used it, no showers, no sink. I was looking forward to going out today and having a shower. But unfortunately this wasn't to be the case, i had to pack my stuff up and move rooms again.||||||There were other issues but these were minor annoyances:||||-The return Hotel shuttle bus was late forcing us to wait in rain, then eventually getting a private taxi at a cost to us.||||-Breakfast was poor, no wide selection, and things were either under cooked or stale.||||-Reception staff limited English/poor understanding or sympathy for a guests issues.||-People live in apartments which share same amenities and the pool/gym is accessible to general public for a fee.||||||This is a long review, but i wanted to give you an insight to the kind of service you may receive and to gently let down your expectations of this hotel before you decided to stay. Feel free to email (lewisjpalin@hotmail.com) or message me any questions on the hotel and i will try and do my best to reply. But my advice is DONT stay here if you want a relaxed vacation with basic amenities.
