Great Seattle Restaurants For Dining Solo - Seattle - The Infatuation

"We like Kamei for a few reasons. First, the people running it are super nice. Second, the sushi is reliably good. Third, the prices are extremely reasonable. So all in all, it’s the perfect place to eat a casual dinner and finally text your mom." - Aimee Rizzo

Kamei Japanese Restaurant Review - West Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Where casual sushi spots are concerned, Kamei should be towards the top of your list. The staff is friendly, it’s a nice, relaxed place to eat solo, and the sushi is reasonably-priced - even if you’re getting a roll stuffed with fresh lobster. Service can be a bit slow on a busy Friday night, but as long as you’re in no hurry, it’s going to be a good time." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
Best tempura ever! They make their own tempura batter and it shows! Lovely interior, excellent food and the family/owners do all the preparation, cooking and serving. Located in Tacoma/Parkland it's just off the freeway and worth the drive from anywhere!

Google
Went for lunch on a Sunday. Service was great. Lovely clean little place. It appears family run. Nothing over the top, just good sushi for a reasonable price. Edamame was steamed well and very good. My friends and I had a nice time.

My family and I came in an hour before closing and had not ate for the entire day due to driving home from our vacation. We ended up getting three appetizers and three rolls and everything was exceptional, and the presentation was beautiful. It filled us up and there were a variety of options which makes this is our new favorite sushi place in the area for sure.

During our week-long trip to Seattle and Tacoma, this restaurant is, without a doubt, the best one we visited (already dreaming about coming back just for the food)! From the start, the service was spectacular. The prices were extremely reasonable, especially considering how delicious the food is and how generous the portions are. The vegetable tempura roll was crispy, slightly warm, and delectable! It had a perfect blend of vegetables that didn't feel heavy but perfectly filling. Looks are deceiving because the chicken yakisoba felt quite large while eating compared to the portion you seem to be getting - and it arrived sizzling in the hot plate! I couldn't get it into my gullet fast enough! Having the Vietnamese coffee was the perfect choice to cut through the oil, with it being slightly bitter but still sweet and strong. The chicken katsu sashimi bento is the best bang for your buck if you want to have a little bit of everything! The additional 3 piece sashimi is a great way to try some raw fish. The dressing on the sunomono is so refreshing, almost vinegary yet citrusy, which makes it a great palate cleanser in between bites of the sashimi and chicken katsu. On top of it all, the overall bento is aesthetically pleasing - 10/10 for presentation! Also recommend trying their maki rolls (you can opt to have them make it as a hand roll if you prefer). In conclusion, give this place a visit whenever you can! You wont regret it!

Google
We travelled an hour from Shelton in search of good sushi for a birthday dinner with kid friendly options. Kamei exceeded expectations for the whole family! Bonus points for the atmosphere. Love this family run business!

Google
Kamei Sushi blew me away. The space is clean and stylish, and the food matches the vibe. The chirashi bowl was super fresh and beautifully put together, and the chicken katsu was crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Server was the sweetest lady, friendly and on point. Easily a go-to date spot. We’ll be back!

Google
A hidden gem. Take the time to stop and support a local business. It is family operated they have been around PNW for 30 plus years. Old restaurant was in west Seattle and were forced out due to west Seattle boom. Don't be scared of current location once you walk inside you will feel like you are part of the family. My food was very well priced and quality of service and food was served very quickly. I also had sashimi unfortunately pics I forgot to take. Help support an amazing small business tell your friends and family to stop by and let there hospitality speak for itself. Cheers

Google
The atmosphere at this place is really good, the music isn't too loud and staff are very welcoming. The food was great, such nice presentation. The Thai tea was really good and I loved the presentation, it felt fancy. The only issue we had was that the booth chairs were a bit to far from the table and we had to sit on the edge to eat. Not a biggie but something i noticed.

Yelp
Great food. Delicious and well-presented. Comfortable environment. Wonderful service.

Yelp
Kamei Sushi was a staple in the Alaska St Junction of West Seattle. So happy we have found their new home in S. Tacoma area. We visit every time we visit our family in Olympia. They are the nicest host and hostess you would ever want to have serving you. The food is excellent as well as the beautiful, warm Restaurant. Denette and Jim

Yelp
Today was our second time eating at Kamei at their new location. We were regulars at their West Seattle location, they were in West Seattle for 22 years and very very popular. Everything was soooo good today, as it always is. Well worth the 1 hour drive in rush hour traffic from Seattle. Service was wonderful, and the food came out fast and fresh. We were a party of 6, and we ordered approximately 18-20 items. Every single thing was succulent, fresh, tender and absolutely delicious. Folks down in Tacoma are so lucky to have this amazing restaurant in their neighborhood. If you've been thinking about checking them out, just GO - you won't regret it!

Yelp
The food, service, everything was so wonderful. My husband, daughter and I went here for lunch and this place is such a hidden gem. We got a hearbreaker appetizer which was delicious, then we had sushi as well. The waitress was so kind and patient with us. Especially with having our 1 1/2 year old daughter. We for sure plan to return!

Brendan K.

Yelp
Service was absolutely horrible. Order came out in pieces, ended up cancelling my part of my order (All sushi bar product), and going next door to Taco Bell for dinner as the rest of my party had finished their order by the time my food was even being prepared. Order was put aside while tables who ordered after me was prepared and delivered. Terrible service, wouldn't recommend unless restaurant is empty.
google avatar

Naomi Z.

Yelp
Majority of our family got food poisoning from this place yesterday. Food did not seem fresh. Place was pretty empty on a Sunday. Not so friendly staff. Big bummer.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Solid sushi for the price. Fish was fresh and could tell it was of good quality and handled well. The only thing making it 4 stars is that the service is a bit lack luster and the place is incredibly warm in the summer. It felt cooler outside at 84 with a breeze than inside. I can imagine that it is the best sushi in this area however I haven't had any. They do a really nice job with the sushi presentation.

Celina K.

Yelp
I think I've found my new favorite sushi spot in town. The owners are so kind and it's a family-run restaurant. The quality of fish was great, we had the Salmon Lovers and Hot Boy roll. The salmon was so buttery!
google avatar

Stacy I.

Yelp
To start, hot tea and ice water. Such a selection. We really only came this time to try the sushi, which was simply Delicious! Each fish stood out in its own glory. Hachi and Salmon were slightly fatty, but with a firm texture. Tuna and the White Fish melted in your mouth. The Red snapper was firm without being chewy. Everything was so flavorful. The service was friendly and outgoing. Will definitely be back for more soon!

Michelle E.

Yelp
Everything, I mean EVERYTHING is delicious. We ordered 9 rolls, because we couldn't get enough of the first 7! The Seafood Sunomono was so good too--it's actually homemade!

Yelp
I decided to try a Japanese restaurant new to me this afternoon. The restaurant is well decorated and has a welcoming vibe. I presume that the woman who waited on me is one of the owner's of this establishment. She was polite and was perfect in attending to me during my visit. The meal was excellent! Normally, my biggest gripe with Yakisoba is that it's too oily and too salty. The way the chef prepared the meal I had to day was fantastic! It had the perfect amount of oil, and the spices were perfectly balanced! There was no need to add soy sauce, and the spiciness was perfect. I was informed that spice hounds can ask for hot oil if they want to crank up the heat. I highly recommend this place to everyone in the area who appreciates great Japanese cuisine.
google avatar

Yelp
Three cuts off fish were already and good quality. Large quantity of food for a reasonable price. Presentation was amazing. The service was quick and the staff were amazingly friendly.
google avatar

Kate K.

Yelp
Thankful to have this amazing Japanese restaurant in the Parkland borough of Tacoma. If you like Japanese cuisine, then you'll love this hidden gem. Their quality and menu selection is off the charts. Kamei and her family are welcoming, kind and practical hosts. They have reinvented an obscure strip-mall spot into a welcoming space with amazing food. Go there for lunch and dinner, you won't regret it! There's plenty of parking in the back.

Yelp
I tell you what this place is pretty awesome I have been meaning to get in here and try the sushi for a while and now I wish I didn't wait so long. They are very friendly here and the restaurant is very nice. I was surprised at first by the Miso soup it's really good not the bland we have to have it so here it is, it had depth to it I must say. Now I wasn't sure what I wanted so I ordered the sushi deluxe which was beautiful and I was impressed. This is a chefs choice sushi platter that did not disappoint I must say that every piece of sushi was awesome the cuts of fish were on point. To include salmon belly and white tuna, I hadn't had salmon belly before and it was excellent. I loved the buttery aftertaste. The sushi chef knows his stuff I will be coming here a lot. Totally recommend you try the place out.

Jeff F.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem, awesome place great service, excellent food. Quiet and clean, everyone should be eating here. And that's not to mention their prices are reasonable!
google avatar

Tricia M.

Yelp
This was my first time here when I didn't love everything. They had a giant tree up for Christmas and it was the perfect size and touch for the space. The agedashi tofu was delicious, I've been trying to find a place that has it and is good since my favorite spot stopped serving it. The vegetable yakisoba was flavorful and pretty tasty. The only issue for me was my donburi. The pork cutlet was extremely try and hard to chew which kinda made the dish pretty meh. The service, as always, was on point and friendly. Will I be back? Sure. Will I get the katsu donburi? Probably not.

Yelp
There's a reason Kamei is #1. Graceious owners, serving the best Sushi. Chef and his Wife are masters of their craft for over 40 years. Save the trip to So.Tacoma Way, come to Parkland instead !

Yelp
My Husband suggested we eat here as we had conducted business nearby. We dined in on Friday 2/9/24. The restaurant was bright and very clean. Love all the decor and esthetics of the restaurant. It's gorgeous. The ambiance is very comfortable. We were fortunate to come in at a perfect time during their soft opening. We learned this is a family run business and had fairly opened up in this location in Tacoma. They previously were located in West Seattle. We ordered 2 Beautiful bentos: 1) Chicken Teriyaki and Tempura $19.95. 2) Beef Teriyaki and Tempura $20.95. The Bentos were served with rice, miso soup, sunomono salad and a seasonal fruit. We were both so delighted that the food was so delicious and tasty. Flavorful and not too sweet or salty. Perfectly made! It was BOMB.COM!!! I could tell that the flavors were slightly different (fresh and tweaked) - All positive! So Loved it! For the price we paid. The portions served was well worth it 100%. Our server, the owners beautiful daughter (forgot her name-please forgive me) was truly pleasant and kind. She wore a pretty smile while happily serving us. Our server surprised us with a cute little dessert (don't know the name). It was crispy on the exterior filled with vanilla ice cream with cherry on top. It was not too sweet. It was delicious and the perfect amount too! That was truly sweet of her. What an awesome way to end our lunch. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! We definitely will return again and again!! =))

Monica S.

Yelp
Overall, a solid sushi place. Our server was really nice and on top of dishes, water etc. Interior wise, clean and new. My husband said the decoration was a bit tacky but honestly, I didn't hate it. Food wise, I wasn't hugely excited about the first 3 rolls but that's probably because I'm not big on a lot of tobiko/masago and every single roll had copious amounts of it. In fact, my husband really enjoyed them! The last two rolls we got I enjoyed more. They were slightly bigger, too. We enjoyed the fish to rice ratio, as well, they don't skimp. Our only true con is the Vietnamese coffee - it was flavored coffee and it tasted off. I've never not finished a cup and I couldn't do it here. Overall, I recommend!
google avatar

Lulu S.

Yelp
We were in the area and Yelp suggested Kamei Sushi but they were closing in 58 mins. I called ahead to confirm that we would be seated as we were only two miles away and they said we would, There was one family there but they left as we were seated. It's a small family owned business (mom and dad in the kitchen and their daughter served us) and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The food was so fresh and delicious and came out fast. I was enjoying it so much I only got a few pictures. If you are ever in the area you should stop by and give them a try. Support local small business!

Yelp
My hubby was the one that chose the place to eat tonight. May I say Great Choice! I hadn't had sushi for a long while and this place was in our neck of the woods. From the outside, you would think it's a typical teriyaki corner spot but when you walk in, oh my it is spacious and nice and clean and so cute!! I really like the way it felt in here. The staff were nice (you could tell it's a family run business. ) The food was great. We ordered the agedashi tofu and soft shell crab. So flavorful. The tofu was presented so beautifully and the crab looked like one piece but was already sliced into 4 for easy eating. It same with a cabbage slaw with that delish sesame dressing on it. Yummy!! Then of course the sushi. They use real snow crab. Not imitation crab meat!! It's so delicate and tasty!! I ate slow to savor every bite. They look to be fairly new to the area so it's just a matter of time before they start getting busy. This place is a hidden gem for now but not for long. Quality food. They put love in it! You can tell. If you're in the area, stop by. Just know they don't have Uni but that's okay. They're still yummy.

Karen S.

Yelp
We came from Gig Harbor based on the reviews and Kamei did not disappoint! My husband and I were celebrating our 20 year anniversary and this was the perfect experience. Such an excellent value and the food was beautifully presented. Melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Oishi!!
google avatar

Frank B.

Yelp
When FRANK B has craving for taste of the orient it's KAMEI SUSHI that is my go to joint. I'm a big fan of the beef Yakisoba light on the cabbage and a side of Tako Sushi, that's octopus for you troglodytes! Family business treating me like a god every time which is always appreciated. Customer service is huge and I love just as mush as the food. Like most authentic sushi joints you can watch the chef carve up your sushi needs right before your eyes. Anyways I'm sure you'll find something to consume and you'll LOVE IT!

Me D.

Yelp
I LOVE this place!!! "KAMEI SUSHI" in Tacoma The food is REALLY DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC , the decor is very cheerful, it's so clean and the owner Vo is such a friendly, hardworking woman. (She had her well established restaurant West Seattle then had to move her business and start all over again .) If you're craving some Great Sushi I'd check this place out. We go there every time we're in Tacoma.
google avatar

Kristine K.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! High quality ingredients and great portions, and the owner Vo is so sweet and attentive. You can tell a lot of care goes into her dishes as well as the inside decor (from the lucky cat mural to each table having fresh flowers). We ordered the Tataki Ahi (which features real snow crab) and Black Mamba rolls. We also had the calamari and seared salmon salad. Our delicious lunch ended with some green tea ice cream. The owner told us that business has been on the slow side since she had to relocate from West Seattle about a year ago, so I hope that other customers see what a gem of a place this is and give their support.
google avatar

Yeonji S.

Yelp
The food was a 5 STARS! Presentation of the food is immaculate. The people and the service is excellent so another 5 stars. The vibe of the restaurant is so cutesy!!!! Mans and I loved it :)
google avatar

L D.

Yelp
This spot use to be a pho restaurant that I went too. Saw they changed to to sushi. I think it's different owners. Service was great! They changed the inside and it looks wonderful. I'm so happy a restaurant that is good is near home. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Chanthon K.

Yelp
The foods were delicious. The waitress was nice and friendly. We didn't have to wait long for our food. It's family owned business. I wouldn't know this place if my son didn't find it on Yelp and suggested. Glad we came and tried it out.
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Excellent sushi and great service. I ate at their restaurant when they were in West Seattle. They moved to Tacoma about 18 months ago. We'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Lena B.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW! Probably the best sushi I have ever had! Loved this place so much, and the service was amazing too. They used to be in Seattle and moved to this new location. Can't wait to bring the family back!!

Bailey R.

Yelp
Great sushi, the appetizers were delicious. Service was phenomenal. Go support this family owned sushi place!
google avatar

Devora L.

Yelp
Came in on Mother's Day and it's a cute little restaurant. Only half the restaurant was open for seating and all the tables were full. I had called ahead of time and they let me know they could save me a table since we would be there within 10 mins. The service was good and the food was delicious! They also have gluten free soy sauce and will warn you if there's gluten in your dish so that was nice! We will be back, it's so good and reasonably priced!
google avatar

Faith O.

Yelp
This place was so good.. probably the best sushi bento box I've ever had.. they relocated from West Seattle.. spacious area but seem to maybe be a little short-staffed when we were there, but it also wasn't very busy so we didn't wait too long. Waitress was very nice and the chefs did a great job with presentation, Will be back for sure.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place after hearing about them from friends. Apparently, they used to be in West Seattle and relocated to Tacoma. Anyhow, everything dish that we ordered was just plain delicious.. I loved their salmon skin salad! If you're in the area and enjoy tasty sushi, please give this place a try.
google avatar

Maddie S.

Yelp
This place was amazing! I've been looking for good sushi and Japanese in the area, and we actually drove 30 minutes each way to come here. It was well worth it. They have a huge menu beyond just the sushi, so plenty of options! It's a family owned business and we got to speak to the owner, his wife, and his daughter. They were very attentive and friendly and had great service. I will absolutely be coming back!

Marcus M.

Yelp
Family-owned Kamei Sushi in Parkland only opened 10 months ago and it's already one of the top 3 in Pierce County! The open interior is beautifully understated and features booths as well as table seating. The Nigiri was very fresh and well presented and the Fried Salmon Skin Handrolls (Temaki) were served in an aperitif glass and so delicious! We also enjoyed the flavorful Beef Yakisoba and a great Shrimp Tempura appetizer! Wonderful and friendly staff who really care in making their customers feel valued and welcomed. Kamei Sushi = UMAMI Dining!
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
What a vast improvement over the restaurant that was here previously as far as the ambience goes. The servings are VERY generous and the staff takes great pride in the food and their restaurant. The rolls as well as the bento boxes are artfully displayed. It is the first time ever that when I ask for extra pickled ginger they really pile it on! I hope this place sticks around for a long time. It is a great addition to the neighborhood.
google avatar

Jenna L.

Yelp
After knowing and loving the old West Seattle location that closed some time back, we were so excited to see this location opened. The sushi is always super tasty with great portions and amazing prices. We got a gigantic sushi and sashimi platter with salad and miso soup and a carafe of sake all for under $90. The new ambiance is super cute and of course best service ever!
google avatar

Jose S.

Yelp
Food was Good my server was friendly surprised it wasn't more packed for a Sunday a must go to sushi spot

Jason C.

Yelp
Family owned and run. Hands down the best, and most authentic, Japanese food I have had in the U.S. His sushi is simply too good.
google avatar

Jen V.

Yelp
Started with miso soup which hit the spot on this rainy summer day followed up by two orders of the salmon nigiri which is by far the best I've had in a very long time. You can usually taste the cleaner sometimes is what it seems like on a chiefs knife when you order this but not here. It's very clean and fresh just the way I like. Then I followed up with a crispy rice special half spicy Salmon half crab. I've never had a roll like this anywhere else! Very very good a must try. Family owned and operated so a great establishment to support a local mom and pap.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Delicious food & great portion sizes! We tried the nabeyaki udon, katsu, agedashi tofu, and calamari. All were delicious! We had our Japanese exchange student with us & he loved everything. Lots of flavor & a lovely presentation. The woman who served us was so sweet! We will definitely return!
google avatar

Lance R.

Yelp
Kamei use to be in our West Seattle neighborhood for almost 20 years. Sadly they had to pack up due to their business and others being leveled for a multistory business and residential building. I just so happened to hear word the family was opening up their place down in Tacoma. Drove by and was able to order my favorite and the same lovely family working hard at producing wonderful food. They instantly recognized me too. They did a great job of decorating the new place. More spacious. And food did not skip a beat and tasty as always. For my friends near Parkland area, please check out. They've been open for less than 30 days.

Lilly L.

Yelp
The presentation is so pretty, all the time! Food is so delicious. This place is a hidden gem on Pacific Avenue. Family owned and they are so sweet! Every time we go, we try something different. During this time of the year, I'm hooked on their shrimp tempura udon.
google avatar

Natasha L.

Yelp
This is a by far the best dining experience we have had in this area. The food was superb! The sushi was fresh and expertly made, the kitchen items were flavorful and generous and the service was warm and welcoming. When we parked, we all hesitated to go in BUT it was a huge win. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated too. Thanks Crystal and her parents for giving us a great dining experience.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
I forgot o take a photo of the food before we devoured it. Pictures is a Philly roll ( make sure to ask for cucumber and avocado in it) I also had the red tuna sushi, Kobe roll and another roll Kamei special roll. All of the food was fantastic! The tuna melted in my mouth and had a buttery taste to it, all of the sushi was fresh and well plated. One of my new favorite spots! Our server was attentive and helpful with recommendations.

Van V.

Yelp
Been here twice both for our anniversary great food, sometimes the service is a little slow even when they're not busy. The fish is so fresh!
google avatar

Marcel M.

Yelp
This place was great! Definitely my families new go-to place to eat. The New York Steak Teriyaki was delicious as well as their sushi and lemonade. Give them a try, you'll enjoy their amazing service.

Yelp
Wonderful Experience!! This place is a super clean and cozy family owned restaurant. The customer service was great and the food was even better. The presentation of each dish makes me feel like this family takes pride in the food they serve as well as the quality. Highly recommend!!!
