I'll be brutally honest with this review.
The €85 tasting menu was a big disappointment. While some dishes were decent (the mackerel, for example, was good on its own), many others lacked flavor despite looking visually impressive and sophisticated. A few dishes were simply bland ie. the croqueta was particularly disappointing (and that hurts, because I love croquetas), and the three-piece sponge cake in the last course was almost completely flavorless. A zero-flavor dish like that really shouldn’t belong in a Michelin-starred restaurant.
To be fair, I understand that the concept here is to play creatively with ingredients and textures you don’t usually find elsewhere. That idea works quite well in certain dishes, such as the red/pink cocktail and the shrimp with rice-paper “caviar.” Unfortunately, that was the exception rather than the rule. Many of the other dishes felt more confusing than exciting.
As for the service: having dined at other Michelin-starred and fine-dining restaurants in Barcelona and abroad, I expected much more. There was little to no explanation or storytelling behind the dishes. While this can sometimes be forgiven if the food truly shines, it didn’t in this case. Attention to detail in the overall guest experience was also lacking things like offering to take jackets or hats at the entrance and returning them proactively are fairly standard in fine dining, yet absent here.
Overall, Barcelona has an incredible food scene with many restaurants offering far better food and a more refined experience at similar or even lower prices. For that reason, I don’t see myself returning to Kamikaze or recommending it.
