Yelp
Kamiza was a nice find. It's clean, friendly, and inviting, as are the staff members we met. We bought a Groupon earlier in the week and were very pleasantly surprised as to how late Kamiza is open (11PM on weekdays, and 2AM on weekends). It made our later-night sojourn even better to know that on a weekend, they'd be open even later.
There were about ten tables and also the sushi bar. My favorite feature was the HUGE maneki neko beckoning cat, although the wall art panels were beautiful, too.
We ordered regular and lobster miso soup. The lobster miso was a really good call because it really pops! There was egg white in it, in a solid piece, and it was very good. This soup has chili of some kind in it, so it has heat to it. There were real lobster pieces as well as imitation shellfish (imitation crabmeat?) in the soup, and it worked very well. The regular miso is mild and gentle in taste. It could stand to be saltier.
This restaurant is one of the few places where you can get straight-up pineapple juice right on the menu. This makes me very happy, as I love pineapple juice.
We ordered sake nigiri (which they call king salmon, though I don't know the difference, or if there is one), a super dragon roll, a honey maki, and a garden maki.
The salmon nigiri was soft and delicious, though the salmon was splitting apart all over at the natural lines. Super dragon is shrimp tempura and cucumber inside seaweed and rice maki with avocado and eel on top; this roll came with a cold sauce on it, which I thought would have been nicer if it was warm.
The garden maki was the hit of the sushi party, made of sweet potato tempura, cream cheese, and avocado, topped with a savory sauce. The honey maki was another lovely vegetarian roll, made of papaya, cream cheese, avocado, and apple. The cream cheese in these rolls just worked so well with the other ingredients.
We will definitely be back to Kamiza. It is a solid, mid-range, local sushi restaurant with very cheerful staff. They've got a lot of specials (coupons and specials include 15% off of an online order, or $6 off of $30 dine-in, or free maki with any takeout/delivery purchase of $25), and they have lunch specials and a great number of specialty rolls, so I'm sure there's plenty for me to choose from in the future.
