Yelp
I like a restaurant with a small menu -- I'd rather see a few things done very well than a slew of mediocre options. Kamoon is my kind of place. It's small and it's popular; I hope with continued success they'll be able to get a larger dining room in the future.
While I waited for my dinner I watched the food being prepared in the kitchen. I was impressed by the portions, the individual care given to each dish, and the consistency.
I ordered beef shawarma and a side of baba ghanoush. The flavors were excellent. I'm used to baba ghanoush that's a little more 'processed' but this was fresh and had chunks of eggplant in it. There was more of it than I could eat. As for the shawarma plate, everything was excellent and well balanced. The hummus, like the baba ghanoush, was fresh and had some whole chickpeas in it, which I liked more than I thought I would. They sent me off with no utensils in my bag, but I ate everything anyway, down to the last grain of rice. I probably could have found a plastic fork in the lobby of my hotel but I didn't want to wait to eat.
My one complaint is that there was no lamb on the menu. I prefer lamb to beef, especially in Middle Eastern fare. Maybe there's a supply issue or maybe people around here just prefer beef -- either way, it's a small complaint. I will go back next time I'm in the area.
