Tiki Bar Kanaloa Is Coming to Downtown This Summer - Eater Houston

"When Kanaloa opens this summer in the former Market Square Bar and Grill at 311 Travis Street, the plan is to provide a full-on tiki experience. “We want this to be a hidden oasis in downtown,” Kanaloa’s Keith Doyle told Eater. The new tiki bar is from the owners of the super adorable bungalow and garden bar, Wicklow Heights. Doyle along with partners Roland Keller and Tyler Barrera have traveled around the country checking out tiki bars, and they’re currently hard at work sourcing tiki gear for the restaurant (think custom-made treasure chests). The hope is to open at the beginning of May within a completely transformed space featuring an outdoor patio and an event area upstairs. The menu is going to be great for groups, with shareable cocktails for up to eight people and a full menu of shareable plates like chicken skewers and tropical shrimp. There’s going to be a huge emphasis on rum obviously, with plans for nearly 100 different options." - Adele Chapin

We randomly just walked in... Had never heard of it but for sure I am coming back! If you are looking for a great atmosphere thats has Lovely fun staff with everyones good vibes then this is the place to hang out at. Beware as they have the Korean BBQ food truck located inside The food is amazing!!! Which stole my heart. :) Also they do have a great playlist. As an EDM lover. 😎

As a non drinker I can't give a full appraisal of the menu but the bartender quickly helped take over and started making suggestions and even created a drink on the fly (Passion fruit daiquiri ). The drinks were fun and flavorful. It was a quiet Tuesday night and yet there was a decent flow of patrons through the place and the little taco stand inside made some awesome tacos (we tried the shrimp tacos and the Korean street tacos, great flavor!). The drinker and one that brought us to the tiki bar to add to her collection of tiki glasses was very happy with her angry tiki God drink and collectable. If you are adventurous or love tiki, swing by and enjoy!!

Great location with good decor. Very friendly staff and nice food (by “Oh my Gogi”). Nice little backyard. We sat on the bar that was connected to a small kitchen. Due to a problem with the ventilation of the place, at the end of the evening we smelled as if we had cooked the food ourselves. It was very hard to ignore the smell of frying in the bar and in the end it is what we remembered from the place. Very pity, because it seems that they invested very much in the place.

A small bar with the most delicious drinks. I never go to bars alone I just so happened to one evening and the staff there are so nice and accommodating. It is a nice hang out with cool and funky deco and Instagram worthy cocktails.

Very charming and cozy. Love the fact that they serve Gogi! Staff is awesome! Just make sure to call before going if you want food to see if they have someone cooking.

Great start! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the place. The space itself is an incredible transformation from what was here before. Very atmospheric. Drinks are standard tiki fare but done well from what I tried, hope you can experiment and come up with something unique as well!

Amazing tiki bar and a great alternative to Lei Low. The manager, Huey, has got to be one of the most involved managers I've met. He makes sure everyone has full drinks and food and makes his presence known (in a good way). For my wife's birthday he made sure we were taken care of and even had a playlist of her favorite Bob Marley songs ready to go. Great place!

If you love rum you'll love this place! Some drinks are frozen, others are very well put together cocktails. They show you the level of steongness in the drinks & dont lie. Picture is a daiquiri. Shareable options as well
