"Ponchiken began when a yoshoku-trained chef hung out his shingle to pursue the world of tonkatsu. Two types of pork, with differing umami, are used for the tonkatsu. Fresh breadcrumbs and vegetable oil are used in accordance with the meat’s characteristics to draw out its natural flavour. Diners can use salt and a variety of sauces to adjust the flavour to taste. Beef cutlets and fried horse mackerel are deep-fried in lard to give them body, creating the unique flavours of this shop." - Michelin Inspector
One of the most beautiful bars i’ve been in my 3 days in Japan, all wood, soft jazz, quite vibes, and best food ever. The beef tonkatsu incredibly tender, curry was Excelent, the pork super tasty and crunchy, 10 times better than snitchzel, Argentinean milanesa and all things like this that i have in my life, congrats.

Discovered this little spot during a month long stay in Tokyo and returned several times. The pork cutlet was cooked to perfection! Juicy and tender. The staff were warm and welcoming and the restaurant was charming,
Cozy and relaxing. Learned about it via a Tokyo Weekender article. Depending on time there is a line sometimes but definitely worth the wait. Highly recommend.

This was a truly heavenly dining experience. Was lucky we came at a time without a line, ordered the Top Lion, Thick Cut and Original Ponchi. Flawless.

Service is great with English speaker staff
I took the beef set meal and it was delicious!
It came with rice and miso soup. In the end, a green tea shot was offered
As the place is small, it was a little bit noisy but acceptable
Worth to give it a try!

We came at 11:30 for lunch, we waited around 30mins to get in. The waiter comes and takes your order before you are seated so when you go inside the food is ready. Amazing food, reasonable prices. We tried the first 2 on the lunch menu both special deluxe, side of sauce and 2 prawns. Everything was sensational.

Waited in line for a few minutes before opening and was able to get the first round of seating. Ordered the special loin tonkatsu set and it was delicious; panko was crispy and coated well, and the pork was very tender with a rich depth of flavor. The lunch menu has limited options so recommend coming for dinner if you want more choices including add-ons and ala carte. Service was good and fast pace.

Some of the best tonkatsu on the planet. Truly an amazing meal from start to finish. We did end up waiting 2 hours in line, even though we showed up at the exact time the place opened. If I had to do it over, I'm not sure I would have stuck it out with the wait, but wildly good food overall.
