Interesting museum about a very specific time of Rwanda's history. The staff was very kind and helpful. It was a fun bonus to see Steve, the crocodile and some snakes there as well. When you go you will learn why 🙂

I recently visited the museum, which is a pleasant and important place to learn about a key part of Rwanda’s history. The entrance fee is symbolic, and there’s a nice gift shop. As a visual artist and interior architect, I’d like to share a few observations. The house restoration is overall well done, but presenting Rwanda’s history through cartoonish posters diminishes the value of the space. I suggest more modern displays using LED walls, and highlighting important sections with large glass display cases and proper lighting. The zoo also needs a full update, including the crocodile area and all enclosures. The parking lot should be relocated outside the museum, and the place lacks a cafeteria. Seating in the garden is uncomfortable and should be improved. I also recommend re-cladding the general site with local materials to fix the current visual distortion. Lastly, the statue of the German explorer should be replaced with a more realistic sculpture. The current one appears naive, and its base shaped like Rwanda’s map sends an unfortunate symbolic message that doesn’t reflect the beauty and dignity of this country.

Museum about the founding of City of Kigali. It has a mini zoo at the back.

very informative stop focused on the german colonial history of rwanda. the exhibits are well-organized into sections and provide a deep look into early colonial presence. there are also live animals like a baby crocodile and snakes, though viewing them requires an extra fee. worth a visit if you're exploring kigali’s historical sites.

A good starting point into the history of Rwanda as a country before colonization & after. The richness & heritage & development the people had before they were force to give them up by the colonial masters.

This is a small yet lovely museum that briefs visitors on colonial Africa and which countries were colonialized by whom. One can buy tickets at the entrance, and there is ample parking. The ticket office also sells souvenirs. There is a nice garden outside. Once inside, the place is well organized and easy to navigate. You get a guide as part of the visit. Once done with the museum, there is a section outdoor for reptiles. Worth spending 30-60 minutes here.

It was an interesting visit. Learn about Rwandan history before and during colonialism through the guide and photo charts in the museum. There is a snake and reptile holding at the back of the Kandt House which is an additional site to behold.

A good history of pre colonization Rwanda and what happened as colonization took hold with the Germans and finally how WWI left Rwanda to Belgium. Plus snakes and a crocodile!
