"The dosirak (bento) at this Korean-Japanese restaurant on Buford Highway is one of the best lunch deals in Atlanta. Combos come packed with a choice of entrees like galbi (Korean barbecue short ribs), tempura shrimp, sashimi and sushi, or beef bulgogi accompanied by a salad, vegetable tempura, gyoza, edamame, japchae, fried rice, and California rolls. And if that wasn’t enough, they offer a comprehensive list of sushi including rolls, nigiri, and a wide selection of beers, sakes, and soju." - Michael Tran

The food was always great ⭐️. Sashimi and sushi are of great quality, and spicy fish soup is amazing. The price and values of food are extraordinary especially in lunchtime. Service might be a hit or miss, though. I would suggest not expecting something you will typically get at a sit-down restaurant. I would definitely come again for their great food.

Food was decent, ambiance wasn’t anything special but they did have a lot of individual rooms (I was not seated there, so can’t speak about it. Service was okay, they were very all over the place when I first arrived and had 3 different menus (I had to keep asking for them). I arrived a couple minutes before 7p and they gave me a blue and white paper menu which was primarily their lunch menu and 2 things for dinner. Strange. Then I asked for a dinner menu and I got a booklet or many pages with a lot of group size items. Then I asked if they had a sushi menu and finally was given that. We ordered Buford Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Spicy Salmon Roll - pretty basic sushi rolls, nothing fancy. All were good sizes and filling. I also ordered Tuna Tataki, which tasted good. It was a nice experience, but I think it would be better to come in a group so you can try more items and their menu had many group combo items.

Google
They have the best lunch combo! The fish are fresh and very tasty. You should make reservation especially in the weekend. If you can't make reservation then show up as soon as they open the door and they might let you in, but with only 1 hour limit. It should be enough time unless you have a big party. The combo 3 and 4 are good for us. The price is great if you can get the lunch combo.

We walked in for lunch and were tight on time. They had a 15 minute wait and I explained this to the hostess. She cheerfully gave us a table without hesitation. Then the food, absolutely delicious. Fabulous service and the sushi chef came over to check on us. This is how a restaurant should be run. Personal service and hospitality exceeding my expectations. Thank you !

Lunch at this long-standing sushi and sashimi spot in Doraville’s original Koreatown felt a bit like stepping into Atlanta’s own slice of culinary history. I was invited by a friend who calls it his go-to restaurant, so I arrived with high expectations—and it delivered. The exterior is unassuming, but once inside you’re wrapped in the gentle murmur of Korean conversation, the scent of vinegared rice, and the soft glow of warm wood panels. Servers moved quickly yet never seemed rushed, greeting regulars by name and newcomers with the same easy warmth. I chose the lunch platter, a miniature tasting tour that begins with a demitasse of silky juk (porridge)—just a few spoonfuls, enough to awaken the appetite. Next came three pristine sashimi selections—delicate slices of tuna, salmon, and fluke -laid out like watercolor swatches. A neat trio of nigiri followed, rice still warm from the sushi-oke, along with a single fried shrimp whose panko sheath shattered with a satisfying crunch. The centerpiece was a bubbling bowl of 매운 생선탕 (spicy fish soup): a deep red broth laced with gochugaru, radish, and generous chunks of flaky white fish. It warmed my throat and cleared my sinuses in the most comforting way. Then came the surprises—part of the restaurant’s quiet generosity. A spicy sashimi salad (회무침) arrived unannounced: ribbons of raw fish tossed in a tangy-sweet chili sauce with julienned vegetables. After the final sip of miso soup, a small cup of coffee and a scoop of ice cream landed on the table, closing the meal with a gentle nod to Western dessert tradition. Throughout, the staff maintained just the right balance of attentiveness and discretion. The cozy room, quietly animated by chopsticks clicking and soft laughter, made it easy to linger. I really enjoyed and will come back.

Excellent service all the time, location is perfect. My friend loves this place and is a must stop every time he visits. It’s always packed, so you definitely need a reservation if you want enjoy😋

Google
The lunch special is so worth it!!! Side dishes came out first. Got the Kang Nam Jungsik A and Unagi Don and Udon. So much food. Delicious! Then we got ice cream which came with the meal. Yummy! Highly recommend this place for the quality, quantity, price, and service!

As a Korean who has been to several Korean-style 횟집 across different states, this was the best quality experience I’ve ever had. I almost cried because it felt like I was back home. Plus, the staff were so friendly!

Yelp
Amazing fresh food that always delivers, the banchan is always fully refillable and amazing and service from staff are always attentive! Have come back so many times and every time it's been so good! And never failed!

Yelp
Wonderful food with top-notch excellent customer service. Very nice people and a very nice restaurant. I highly recommend for sushi and Japanese food. One of the best that I have been to. The sushi chef came over to thank us personally and had a very wonderful spirit about him. Sushi. Located right off of Buford Highway and I 285. Plenty of parking and easy to get in and out of.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Kang Nam for our wedding anniversary celebration in September of 2024. I lived in Korea for a time as an adult, and we have both developed a huge appreciation for the cuisine and for Japanese cuisine as well seems like the perfect fit for us. We had a hard time zoning in on just a few dishes to order, we wanted to try almost the whole menu! My husband made a reservation for us, which I assume that we were able to get one of the private rooms. I felt really fancy and special to have that space all to ourselves. Waiters would come in between the curtains to drop off our food. We got the pajeon, fried pork cutlet, and a sashimi platter, along with green tea for me. Everything was delicious. I would love to visit again and sample more of their offerings!

Amanda C.

Yelp
This might be our new sushi spot!! Great customer service and great prices. We ordered takeout and was asked to have a seat while we waited. Casual izakaya style seating. They brought us water and even a scoop of ice cream for each of us while we waited - an unexpected kind gesture. We ordered 1 sashimi and udon bento to go. It was $22 and huge. Fish was fresh and lots of additional items like unagi and tempura. Everything was delicious and we can't wait to return.

Marni M.

Yelp
Let me just cut to the chase. This place right here? PHENOMENAL. The side salad was a great light starter as well as their ban chans. We came on a Wednesday to take advantage of their lunch specials as a party of 6. Between us, we shared their #10 Hwe Dup Bob + Spicy fish soup, #6 sashimi + sushi + udon, Sashimi & sushi combo, Dragon roll and Outside salmon roll. Of course I loved their salmon sashimi but also liked the yellow tail, tuna, and shrimp. I was really surprised by the hwe dup bop which was essentially bimimbap but with white fish instead of a pork/beef. The udon was springy and chewy. Both rolls were divine and it's hard to say which one I liked better but if you twist my arm, I'd say the dragon roll since I'm also a sucker for eel. Going on super hungry, we BARELY could finish the food even though we so desperately were determined to. Everything is super fresh, well presented, and beautifully seasoned. The staff were beyond friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was private and casual. My friends were hyping this place up and it was for a lost cause. I am truly in love and cannot wait to come again. Please do yourself a favor and support this wonderful business.

Yelp
We had small gathering at our house. 7 adults. I talked to Mina and had ordered to go. It was mostly sashimi and few others. It would take way too much space to list all but it was one of the best sashimi order I ever had. They were all fresh and top quality fish. Also included was spicy stew which I rarely eat but these were the best. We had 4 containers of stew and they all had big chunk of lobsters. Yes they were the best. We live in Hoschton so it was much easier to order to go. I say we had double order of sashimi plate and some tempura and they also included miso soup and rice. They added quite a few side dishes. They all love the food. Bill was about 520 not including tip.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Great place to get sushi!! Kang Nam was on my list for a while because of their sushi boats lol so we finally went and I don't think we ordered enough for a boat, but it was still plenty of food. There was a bit of a wait for a Sunday night but we ended up getting seated in one of the private rooms around 15 min after we put our names on the waitlist. Service was just fine and price was pretty standard for sushi. There were 4 of us and we shared 5 rolls which was the perfect amount! Surprisingly I liked all of them equally and didn't really have a favorite, which is pretty rare for when I get sushi. Overall since Kang Nam is so close to my house, I will definitely be back to try more of their rolls!

Stacie N.

Yelp
Their lunch specials are THE BEST!!! I normally get #1 & everything is sooo good & fresh with unbeatable price! It does get pretty busy during Lunch hours so it's better to have reservations. I love the private rooms as well. Highly recommend if you're in BuHi area!

Stephanie G.

Yelp
One of my favorites on BuHi is Kang Nam. The entrance is hard to miss and parking is deceiving but there are more parking spaces in the back of the building. Kang Nam has been here as long as I can remember; probably one of the OG restaurants before everyone discovered BuHi has all the authentic restaurants. Service has always been good. Our group ordered a bunch of sushi and for me, the chicken don. The chicken was way too dry, like almost rubbery dry which is why I deducted a star. It was a huge portion though and I didn't finish everything in the bowl. The sushi, however, is what will bring me back to this place. There's not a bad sushi roll that we had here. And at the end, you get ice cream!

Kathy Y.

Yelp
One of the best Japanese sushi restaurants in the area! I came for dinner with my family and we were immediately serviced even though the restaurant was very busy. The food was amazing and such good value. We had a tempura combo, fish combo, and beef done. Loved the cute little rooms and vibes of the restaurant as well. Will always be coming here for great service and sushi.

Alexandria N.

Yelp
The more I come here, the more I love it. The lunch special is so worth. For $22 you can get a sashimi box with so much food. It comes with three types of sashimi, a California roll, udon, eel, and tempura. You definitely leave feeling full and satisfied. The fish quality is also so fresh every time. Service is also convenient as each booth has a button you can press to call over your server. They're always so busy though, so expect a wait if you don't have a reservation (especially applicable to dinner times).

Jennifer S.

Yelp
This is a super cute korean run japanese restaurant. I would recommend reservations since we (party of 2) went on a saturday afternoon and were told a 30 minute wait. It ended up only being 10 tho but service was quite slow. The banchan was a nice surprise and really good. The sushi was tasty and the restaurant provided high quality fish. We ordered off the sushi menu, instead of the lunch special menu (rookie mistake). We will definitely be back for the lunch specials. Other tables ordered some of them and there was SO much food.

Brittany C.

Yelp
Kang Nam is a Japanese restaurant with Korean influences which has been part of the Buford Highway landscape since 1970. It is known for its sushi and balance of fusion and tradition. I ordered the lunch portion of the Kangnam Jungsik, which features sashimi, sushi, california rolls, soup (pumpkin and spicy fish soup), grilled mackerel, shrimp tempura, roe rice and banchan (Korean side dishes such as boiled peanuts, steamed egg, kimchi, tofu, fish cake, glass noodles). I enjoyed my meal at Kang Nam. The sashimi and sushi were as good as advertised. I was pleasantly surprised by the pumpkin soup, which is thicker and sweeter than I anticipated but also very delicious. The boiled peanuts were crunchy and provided just enough flavor. The grilled mackerel was light but tasted a bit on the oily side. I would recommend the lunch portion of the Kangnam Jungsik, as you receive a lot of food for the price point. I also loved eating in one of the private rooms and the great customer service. Kang Nam features an extensive menu, so I look forward to exploring the menu further during future visits.

Derek L.

Yelp
Kangnam offers an exceptional lunch special for just $20, featuring a generous assortment of 12 pieces of sashimi, along with udon and eel. The quality and taste of the food were outstanding, complemented by excellent service. This deal provides incredible value and is highly recommended.

Makaila W.

Yelp
This is off the highway, has a huge sign so not hard to miss. Free parking and a decent size parking lot. They have rooms that are covered or normal restaurants style seating. Me and my party were sat in the enclosed area. I ordered the Philadelphia roll and cucumber salad. they ordered the orange roll, ribs and seaweed salad. Also green tea. The food was good and service as fast.

Yelp
What was Buford Highway like 50 years ago? Was it a place filled with international cuisine, abstract strip malls and a sense of otherworldliness? Those who did not grow up in the city have plenty of wonders as such to ponder upon during a visit to Kang Nam. Kang Nam is a trip into a time long passed. Having opened in 1970, it's seen it all. The place opened when the Cold War was still raging, when Michael Jackson's top hits were just getting rolling and humans just landed on the moon a year earlier. Now, it stands as a relic that is still popular for those in the know. Five o'clock opening time comes and the parking lot is already full of characters, some smoking in their cars nervously looking at their watches, others eagerly awaiting by the door, peeking to see the movement happening inside. Hunger driven thoughts flow by, such as, "maybe they'll open a minute or two earlier?" A Japanese restaurant ran by Koreans is about as Atlanta as it gets. After all, the Korean diaspora in the city is substantial and who does not love Japanese food? Fish soup, kim chi, flounder sashimi and American style sushi rolls are all here. Oh, and the free ice cream comes for the dessert. The meal is delicious. Sure, one might say that the fish soup is a bit heavy on bone fragments and that the flounder sashimi is a bit on the tougher side, but the meal as a whole is an excellent one. The fish is fresh and it is priced remarkably well. Kim chi is spectacular and so is the broth in the fish soup. Cuts of fish for nigiri are as generous as they get. There are a few bottles of high quality sake and an Italian made Asahi beer. Yes, you did hear that correctly. The people who work Kang Nam are kind, genuinely trying to make people happy, while also instructing very directly, how things should be done. Don't place your beer on the table, use the paper mat for that. Don't give away your spoon, you will need it for the soup later. Kang Nam is an unquestionable gem in the city and it's the kind of spot that needs to stick around for at least another 50 years.

Faith S.

Yelp
Incredible authentic sushi! Make sure to set a reservation & come hungry. Service was wonderful as well.

Sarah S.

Yelp
I genuinely can't wrap my head around how they're turning a profit with the amount of food they give you for the price, but I'm definitely not complaining. Their lunch bento is an excellent value for $13, with soup, salad, banchan, and plenty of sides along with the main dish. They even offered ice cream at the end of the meal. The restaurant was fairly small so it was a bit of a wait to be seated, but everyone was so friendly and communicative. Food was great, prices were unbelievable considering the portions, and we'll definitely be back for more.

Claire S.

Yelp
-big sushi selection -gets really busy -not the best sushi I've had -price for the quality is just okay -decor needs revamp -staff was attentive when I last went -food is just okay; would go if someone invited me but wouldn't seek out their menu myself

Favia A.

Yelp
The perfect roll really is perfect. The service was great and quick, server was nice, and not a long wait time either. The place is very nicely decorated. One of my favorite places to go to for sushi, very affordable.

Kimberly W.

Yelp
Kang Nam is delicious and very reasonably priced. We walked in and were greeted warmly by everyone. The decor is basic but the tables are set up as intimate nooks with curtains. Premium sake offerings are limited but represent a nice range. It was so odd to get banchan with sushi but a nice addition. Combo sets offered a little bit of all the favorites - I just wish you could sub something for the California rolls - which accompanied all of them - but even those were fine. We had sashimi and nigiri sets and the fish was all delicious and plentiful.

Darren L.

Yelp
Food was amazing. I loved their tofu and potato ball banchan that came out. We got sashimi and the sashimi was phenomenal. I loved their fatty tuna the best. So so good. Only con was that the food took so long to come out. I almost fell asleep lol. Overall though, some of the freshest sushi I've ever tried in my life.

Bri C.

Yelp
My wife loves this place for the lunch special that includes the roe rice. It's very fresh and all of the food is very good. The service here is good and there's a lot of rooms that you can reserve. The sushi here is really the highlight.

Danielle M.

Yelp
No frills sushi/Korean restaurant. Most of the menu is Japanese but they also have some Korean dishes outside of the sushi menu and they bring out the typical Korean condiments to have with your food. It felt like a feast dining in here. Out of all our apps my favorite was the potato balls. Our sushi was very fresh and I also really enjoyed the galbi beef we ordered. Really great customer service as well, everyone was so kind and helpful.

Jen G.

Yelp
This is a popular place and I can see why. They have great lunch and dinner sets where you can get a variety of courses with Korean and Japanese dishes. Sushi and sashimi here are fresh, tasty, with some inventive choices. I love the little private table rooms available when you want a quieter vibe. Although, I tend to over order - I only ordered the tempura combo, but you get a lot of food: a few banchan dishes, salad, soup, sashimi and sushi, shrimp and vegetable tempura. The tempura is super tasty with the extra crispy fried batter. The BF ordered 3 rolls and had a sushi party all to himself and everything was super delicious!

Luffy A.

Yelp
AMAZING! Our new go to sushi spot. Don't ask me to go anywhere else for sushi because Kang Nam has my business from now on. Amazing quality sushi at a reasonable price. You also get complimentary Korean banchan and ice cream at the end. We have come back multiple times since our first visit. Another Buford Highway gem to add to the mix!

Alexanria J.

Yelp
Pretty big local mom and pop Japanese restaurant vibe. Koreanized Japanese restaurant with course meal options. Strongly recommend the Kangnam Jungsik A - course meal. We got the 런치정식 lunch course. Pumpkin soup, a variety of sashimi, sushi, California roll, grilled mackerel, shrimp tempura, roe rice, and spicy fish soup. Very affordable, delicious Koreanized Japanese course meal. Private tables are available as well! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Erin S.

Yelp
We had a party of 3 for dinner at 7 pm on Saturday, 9/8/23. Service was great. Everyone made us feel so welcome. Sushi was delicious. The presentation on the boat was a definite bonus! The banchan was good--I liked the peanuts in particular. The sushi came with soup and salad, which was really nice! Here's what we got: - Perfect Roll ($12.99): Good! - Samurai Roll ($11.99): I think this was my favorite! - Alaska Roll ($9.99): Straight mayo on top. Not my favorite. - Spicy Tuna Sandwich Roll ($9.99): So fun and different! - Yami Yami Roll ($12.99): Baked and very saucy. The rolls were so cheap, compared to other sushi restaurants in the area, and the food was good! The prices and the service made this 5 stars. I would definitely go back!

Sean H.

Yelp
One of my favorite sushi spots prob the best spot on BuHi! It's a Korean Japanese restaurant so there is banchan and assortment of traditional Korean dishes available as well. The food here has always been excellent from their lunch combos (available M-F till 6 PM) to their a la cart and sashimi and sushi combos. Service is always quick and if you need attention there is a button at every table as well. Lately when I come with family we love getting the Mega Sashimi platter, it offers amazing variety and value. It's great coming with large parties because they have private rooms on the side of the restaurant and feels secluded from the rest of the restaurant. It's starting to get really busy so be sure to call in for a reservation, I think they only do it if it's over 6 people. Everyone is finding out about this gem and for good reason.

Cathy N.

Yelp
The servers are very nice there. The price is fair. I love the private rooms that they have with the curtains. It's not authentic Japanese food, but the Korean food options there are good. They have lunch specials and I love their bento boxes. You also get strawberry ice cream at the end of each meal.

Stacey K.

Yelp
We got one of the deluxe sashimi sets and it came out to over $200+ after everything. But it comes with sooo much food and the portions are large so it can feed many people. I agree with the other reviews that you get the most bang for your buck here. Is it the best quality fish I've had? No. Some of the fish were just slightly fishy. But the deluxe set is a great experience with multiple rounds of delicious food. So I would still recommend it. I think the quality is still quite decent. This restaurant is Korean-style Japanese food so you can find Korean dishes as well as Japanese ones. The meal starts off with many banchan side dishes. They were all pretty good. There are large platters of sashimi with a large variety. We swapped out the Sea Squirt with extra Salmon. There is also rice with roe and a finishing fish soup. The food just kept coming and we even had some leftovers. I'd recommend this place as it is tasty and you will definitely come out full from the amount of sides. Great for multiple people. This location is tucked away on the side of a busy street. Parking lot can get full and busy.

Alyssa T.

Yelp
I came here with family for lunch, and while it was my first time here, my family was super excited. They live out in California now, but since my brother in law is Korean, he was craving this spot since he claims it is one of the few spots that serves Korean style sushi. I ordered the #1 lunch combo, and for $26, it comes with SO MUCH FOOD. My boyfriend ordered the #5 combo, and my aunt and her husband ordered the all day combo, Lobster Jungsik. Again, I have to emphasize that the #1 lunch combo and the Lobster Jungsik comes with A LOT of food. We would feel full and would just be talking, and then we would see the waiters come out with the next portion that we forgot about. My combo started with a pumpkin soup that was more like a purée for me, but it was so delicious. I want to go back for the pumpkin soup alone. The combo also comes out with three kinds of sashimi, 3 pieces of nigiri, and 2 pieces of a California roll. They also give grilled mackerel, shrimp tempura, roe rice, and a spicy fish soup. Again, a lot of food haha. The sashimi and nigiri was so delicious, and they were generous with their portions. The grilled mackerel was great, but I loved the spicy fish soup. I've never had a soup like it before, but I think I will have to plan my next trip again just writing this review. While the lobster Jungsik is definitely pricey, it comes with even more food. I am not a fan of flounder or lobster sashimi, but they loved their food. The restaurant interior is definitely deceiving when walking in as it looks so small, but we were led to a huge private room off of the entrance room. It is definitely larger than you would think. I am definitely going back soon.

Rachel W.

Yelp
I wasn't blown away by the food but felt like it earned a 5 stars for service, fair pricing, and presentation. The food is solid - tastes fresh, is flavorful, just not amazing. All entrees come with a small salad and miso soup. They have an extensive roll menu and I landed on the Twister Roll and enjoyed it! It was exactly what I was looking for, and I'm sure anyone can find something that suits them with their menu size. They also have many non-sushi items! There's a good chance you'll be tucked into a private room, which made the experience feel more upscale - it was really nice to have a room to ourselves without having to pay a premium! Service was always attentive and food came out in a timely manner. We all loved the free ice cream that they give you at the end!

Mark A.

Yelp
At the time of writing, our second visit to Kang Nam comes about a year apart. On our first visit, we shared the Sashimi 'Mega' for lunch among 6 adults. We were thoroughly pleased and satiated. It's a wonder why it took almost a whole year for us to come back. See Isabel W's review on that visit. Our most recent visit was just me and Acelyn. This time we each went with a sashimi-udon special for lunch. Thinking we were going to need more food, we ordered an Orange Roll for good measure. As our combos came out, I quietly regretted ordering the roll as I already knew the combo was adequately filling. Either way, glad the Orange Roll was on the table. I was interested in it from the moment I put eyes on rolls section on the menu. I was affirmed when our server made the rec when Acelyn inquired. Mid-lunch, Acelyn and I started planning for our next lunch at Kang Nam. We don't plan on waiting another year to return for our third visit.

Ruby J.

Yelp
Ordered the deluxe sashimi set . The sides were all not that great . I didn't like most of the sides . The sushi was ok . Sashimi was good . We were rushed throughout and no waiter showed up . Didn't like the experience.

Fahrina H.

Yelp
I'm so happy to have discovered an authentic sushi spot in Atlanta. Went to Kang Nam for a quick lunch break, and was greeted with a friendly smile and an open seat. I checked two rolls off of the menu and the food didn't even take 10 minutes. The sushi rolls were fantastic and very reasonably priced from $6.99 to $12.99. The rolls also came with a really nice spread of salads, kimchi, miso soup. After lunch was done I was even asked if I had room for some complimentary ice cream, phenomenal service. Would highly recommend this amazing institution!

Andy T.

Yelp
First of i want to apologize to the owner of this restaurant bc this has been me and my wife's go to sushi place for the past 10 years and yet I have not once wrote a review! We love the lobster, sashimi the flounder Sushi Me the lobster for two people is more than enough to share for like 3 to 4 people. Needless to say their portions are great, but she she is always fresh yet inexpensive! We have moved far away from this restaurant now, but we still go here from time to time. They have private and small rooms for small tables or they have rooms for big groups. It is a hidden gem on the highway very easy to miss so drive slow when you are approaching the restaurant. Throughout your dinner, the owner will go around and check up on everybody to make sure they are enjoying the meal and it's always there to make sure the customer service is on point. I'm surprised this place is not on a Michelin star listen or something like that.!

Alex S.

Yelp
Every single thing we ordered is super good at an affordable/ fair price. From the shrimp and vegetable tempura, otoro and salmon sashimi and unagi were amazing.

Linda J.

Yelp
We went for the first time for dinner, after a few visits for lunch. Warning: they're closed from 3 to 5. Prices are a little higher at dinner than at lunch, but that's standard. It's still extremely reasonable. The Ten Don at dinner time is called Tempura something something, and it's a few bucks more, but still delicious. It's an enormous amount of rice--I always leave half. It's fun fishing the vegetables and egg out of the rice. You also get a small bowl of miso soup, a small green salad, and a couple of small appetizers. The sushi box isn't available at dinner, but they have a lovely sashimi box. We're only in Atlanta once every month or two, but when we're in town, we always stop at Kang Nam.

Yelp
Great late night sushi while traveling through Atlanta. I dropped in around 9:15 and had all my food in no time. The sashimi cuts were great and the hamachi was buttery as ever. Spicy tuna was pretty good, but I enjoyed the orange roll a lot more. Love that they have private dinner rooms throughout the place and it was busy when I went! Wish I could have tried their lobster special from the chef! Maybe next time.

Yelp
Be on the lookout! I missed the turn once, but navigated through a couple parking lots to make my way back over to where Kang Nam was! It was a bit hard to spot because the big sign by the road had characters and below it "Japanese restaurant" (pictured). However, when looking at the building itself, I could see the Kang Nam sign with characters on it matching the road sign. Success! The parking lot was filled, save for one spot open for me! I parked and headed in. Upon entering, I met the hostess at the front desk. After informing her of my reservation, I was seated promptly and asked if I wanted ice water or hot tea. I excitedly asked for hot tea, but I should have requested both for reasons you will understand as you continue reading. My friend was just a few minutes behind me because she too passed the entrance. The restaurant is very quaint, so she was able to immediately spot me at my booth when she came in. Not long after she sat down, they brought us each a hot tea--or rather, a warm tea--that was surprisingly inside a plastic cup that you'd put water or other cold drinks in instead of a teacup. Kind of odd but no worries... The food was all yummy. It was an unexpected treat to get complimentary miso soup and ginger salad before our meals, as well as little shareable cucumber salad, kimchi, and peanuts appetizers. The peanuts were so good! I did some googling and discovered that they must be Korean Ddangkong Jorim (Soy Braised Peanuts). They were addictive. We also enjoyed our seaweed and cucumber salads we ordered, as well as our sushi rolls (my friend got the spicy salmon and I got the Buford roll). One negative thing I will say is that it took my friend and I asking FOUR times for glasses of water to actually get it. To be straightforward: that is unacceptable. We asked our waitress 3 times and on the third time she wanted us to pay our bill seemingly before a water was brought, like some kind of weird trade off. We paid, and waters were still never brought. Finally, I asked another server and he ended up being the one who gave the waters to us. We were so thirsty, we chugged them before leaving. Please do better with the drink situation. I am not the first customer to mention it, looking through the Yelp reviews.

Yelp
The presentation, ambiance, and service here is really what makes you keep coming back. We made a reservation and got to sit in one of the private rooms, which were all decked out with Japanese/Korean design/style. Usually, it's hard to get service when you're in a room like that, but service came by so often that we never even had to press the button! Food-wise, I love that you can get Korean and Japanese things. The fried mandu were okay and I wouldn't recommend the corn cheese (this was our most disappointing dish--canned corn and barely any cheese hmm...), but their side dishes were solid and I also liked their green onion pancake thing (I thought it was pajeon but they said it was something else). All of our sushi came out on a giant boat and it was a major wow factor. I wouldn't say it was the best sushi, but rolls were ok (I wish they were a bit bigger and "fluffier"?) and it came out really fast. After our meal, they gave us ice cream, then the chef came out and asked how our food went. You know a restaurant cares when the chef comes out personally to talk to you. He even gave us a deep bow when we told him we liked the food--wow! Real sign of respect...I love how passionate the chef was. Honestly, this place has what it takes to be bomb--just gotta tweak the food a bit, but keep everything else. Good place to go if you want to give people an experience!

Yelp
We went to Kang Nam for lunch on Wednesday. Kang Nam is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. The waiters & owner were so friendly. I ordered Seaweed Salad & Chirashi Don. Excellent! I loved it!

Yelp
Atmosphere/service: they have a parking lot which is nice. The space inside is smaller than I thought, but maybe because they have so many private rooms available and that's why there aren't a lot of tables in the open area. Make reservations/put your name down if possible! The service was a bit slow, but it was very busy with it being Easter so I can't get mad about that. There is a call button which is nice! Food/price: for 6 adults we shared the "Mega" which is $279.99 and comes as "courses" - "Course 1": I'm going to call this an appetizer course with Korean and Japanese items that you eat before the sashimi comes out. We were first given a small bowl of pumpkin porridge which was a bit too sweet for me. Our actual appetizers were Korean steamed egg, potato croquettes, fried tofu with a ponzu type sauce, conch with seaweed, chicken yakitori, cucumber with krab salad, pickled radish wrapped cabbage, krab and cheese stuffed into a shell, Korean style spicy cold noodle on a salad bed topped with imitation crab, and grilled salmon head/collar. The standouts were the steamed egg, the salmon collar, and the spicy cold noodles. There was enough for each of us to have a piece of everything! "Course 2": three GIANT trays of seafood. The sashimi tray had 11 different types of sashimi including salmon, tuna, sea bass, yellow tail and etc. They take back the collar bone of the Hamachi (yellow tail) to grill for you. The second tray had raw shrimp, Korean oysters, sea cucumber, sea squirt, abalone, wasabi octopus, uni, and something else I don't remember lol. They take the heads off the shrimp to deep fry for you. There is also a small tray of flounder sashimi. The final tray was the raw lobster sashimi, they take back the head and claws to make into spicy lobster soup for you. "Course 3": they bring back the Hamachi collar that has been grilled, the deep fried shrimp heads, and the spicy lobster soup. Additionally, a small bowl of rice topped with fish roe (masago) and seaweed salad. "Course 4": ice cream I think this is such a unique and fun experience, also a great deal for a group that loves seafood! Would recommend and can't wait to come back!

Yelp
My favorite Japanese restaurant in the Atlanta area! We recently went back on a Saturday, and again liked the freshness and quantity of their food. I wish their health score was better though. :(

Yelp
Best sushi and restaurant in general in the whole town. Everything is top tier, from its service on demand button just like Korea to the traditional decorations!

Yelp
You must try the Korean fusion items on here. IMO, i've had a lot better raw fish before but for the pricing this will do the trick. I've been here quite a few times but normally with Koreans so they know exactly what to order and we get tons of the tasty free sides that come with it. Kang Nam has been here for forever so they are loved by locals and everyone knows this place. Service is really good too, they have the call button on the table as well, feel free to use it, it's there for a reason! FOOD, *Lobster Special for 2* was shocked to see raw lobster!! never in my life have i had that, maybe ceviche style but not like this... i took a small bite and put the rest in the soup they gave us at the end. *TORO* i got the sushi version with two pieces, it was mehhh it didnt amaze me this time, maybe i've changed. *Calamari* Gorgeous presentation, but mostly breading and not much seasoning on there. squid was very chewy, and not much seasoning. *Chirashi Bowl* i thought it was pretty neat how they seasoned the rice below the fish. got a small sample of Tuna, Salmon, and some other white fish, i think there was conch too . for the price $20 not bad, questionable quality though. OVERALL,, good spot, not my favorite but still loved and has its ups and downs

Yelp
Had a fantastic lunch on Friday. The lunch specials are a crazy deal. I had the sashimi box for $22. Every bite was delicious! The sashimi and eel were fresh, the tempura was perfectly seasoned. The pickled veggies were a perfect accent. The udon noodles were super comforting. They even gave a salad, banchan, and strawberry ice cream to finish. Will definitely be back! And the sushi is a deal, will def try next time!
