Management and staff were absolutely lovely. So accommodating and the food was really good! It was very ‘standard’ sushi in my opinion- had a tasty cali roll, tuna roll was fresh, and the steamed buns were served with a delicious spicy sauce.

Google
Although it faces some gas pumps, the food and staff are friendly and easy going. Relatively small menu, but everything I ordered was the proper temperature. I was surprised to see so few photos posted, this place is worth a visit.

Google
It might be because I have lived in Japan many years so I have a harsh opinion. The tables and chairs were dirty to include the menu and silverware. The appetizers we were served clearly are frozen and flash fried. Also, the sushi roll quality was poor with little flavor. The Japanese curry was very watery and the chicken consistency was tough and dry with poor texture. The only thing that was worth trying was the fortune cookie.

Google
One of the best sushi places in town tucked away from downtown as you're headed up to ski sunlight. Reasonable prices $$$ with an all you can eat sushi menu on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Lounge in the comfy seated area or belly up to the bar. Definitely try the Korean style ribs. aside from the sushi this entree is an absolute game changer you'll love it!

Service was as good as the food! Loved the fried bao, Japanese curry, and dragon roll. 10 year old said his ramen was “phenomenal”.

Google
I’m giving kanpai 2 stars because the food is great and the sushi chef is very good at what he does. However, eating here or worse, trying to get takeout has become an uncomfortable and unenjoyable endeavor. There is usually only one server on staff and she is usually upset, especially if you’re trying to order takeout. Takeout is supposed to be something quick, take an order and put it in when you get a chance. I have been hung up on, put on hold for 20 minutes just to be yelled at and today, trying to put in an order I sat and waited for 10 minutes while being ignored. The sushi chef even asked the server to take my order and she refused. I understand it’s because you don’t get as much of a tip for take out orders but we live down the street and did frequent it often.

Went for dinner on Friday night as a group of 6. Our server was busy but able to memorize each order. We had their happy hour which includes an app, roll and drink, super affordable. We had some additional rolls off the main menu, all of which were good too. Sushi was fresh and we look forward to going back!

Google
The service was amazing. The waitress was friendly and gave us helpful recommendations on the food. The food was a 10/10 for taste AND presentation. If you like sushi I highly recommend!

Yelp
Truly one of our favorite places to eat. The service is always so friendly and the fish is fresh. The flavors are so clean and flavorful... So fresh and so clean clean It is also priced well and the saki is still $10.

Yelp
Was looking for something different in Glenwood Springs and this hit the spot! Had the bento box for dinner, which was delish. Wish I could have tried some of their drinks but alas had to drive afterwards. Waitress was friendly. Next to a gas station but was nice inside.

Yelp
Sushi is awesome. Best this side of the divide for sure. Jade our waitress, bartender, etc outstanding service. Could not ask for better. Wagn the sushi chef - no words. A true talent. Love the setting. Locals call it gas station sushi. But very misleading. Walk in to a very nicely appointed space with bar, table and easy chair and sofa seating. Set up against a creek just below Sunlight ski area.

Yelp
SERVICE: 6 FOOD QUALITY: 5 DRINK QUALITY: 5 ORDER TIME: 5 AESTHETICS: 4 NOISE LEVEL: 5 MENU SELECTION: 5 OVERALL EXPERIENCE: 5 First thing to mention is that the service was some of the best we have ever encountered and a pinnacle to what service should be. When we arrived we learned that they shut the kitchen down early so we decided to just get a delicious Japanese beer before venturing back out for food. As we were having our drink the bartender/server told us that she called her sushi chef to come back, and he came back happily. We were overly happy and it really made our night. Our bartender/server on 8/27/22 was just the greatest. Great personality, fun to talk to, and clearly cares about her customers. We ordered some pretty simple sushi so that we didn't burden the chef with pulling out everything that he had stored. Everything we ordered was phenomenal, but he went above and beyond and made us some extra things that he said we would love. The dumplings were amazing and the extra roll he made us was out of this world. Definitely surprised that we could find such good sushi in a state like Colorado. Fish was quality and the chef really knew what he was doing. Overall, this place was such a wonderful experience. A small neighborhood sushi restaurant/bar that really knows how to provide service above and beyond. Thank you to the server and sushi chef! You made our evening special.

Yelp
Great food and fast service! Recommend if you are in the area. I sat at the bar and was served right away.

Yelp
Great place to eat!!! The prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Connie is a fantastic hostess. Wayan prepared the sushi to perfection!!! I highly recommend to come eat at Kanpai Sushi Bar!!

Aspen N.

Yelp
I really want this place to succeed, but the last few times I've ordered from them, I have been hung up on., or no one answers. I would say the quality of any of the raw fish is questionable as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Third time I have dined at when visiting Glenwood Springs. The sushi is amazing. The sushi chef is so creative, it's almost too pretty to eat. However, you want to eat it because it's delicious. Connie has been our waitress every visit and remembers us. Cute and quaint, a nice place to grab some awesome food. Will come back again.

Yelp
I don't have much experience with the Glenwood Springs food scene. But this past weekend, I was introduced to Kanpai and I am super impressed. Kanpai sits understated in a gas station plaza. But walking in, it is a cozy and intimate little place with delicious food. I got the vegetable platter combo, which got me an asparagus roll, a cucumber roll, and an avocado roll and a bowl of Miso soup for a super reasonable price. The miso really hit the spot. Overall the meal was enjoyable yet not entirely what I expected. After seeing the elaborate rolls that my friends ordered, I mis-ordered and should've gone for a specialty sushi roll. Next time I'll know better! Everyone at the table was jealous of my delicious looking Miso soup and ordered some of their own--however, my partner's soup never arrived and when he asked about it he was told it would be a while, so he decided against it since we were almost done with our meals by then. Overall it was a really nice experience with great service. Our server was really sweet and attentive. I'll stop back in here next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
You cannot beat the Happy Hour they have. It's our favorite place to go for sushi in Glenwood Springs. Prices are great and they always have a special

Yelp
This place is really interesting , the atmosphere is really nice and peaceful, playing 80' music, not exactly what I would expect from a sushi bar. The service was ok, only one gal taking care of all the tables (3) the bar and takeout, so she was very busy. I asked about tempura and all she knew was tempura shrimp, they had no other tempura like vegetables, a bit disappointed in that as it s one of our favorites. The food was decent, the servings seemed small compared to other places I have been bit the rolls were tasty. There was no definition on the menu of how many rolls came with each type it just said 6-8, and they were fairly thin slices. The bill was $85 for 2 of us with some sake not Horrible for sushi.. I wouldn't say this is the best sushi I have had but definitely not the worst. But for a city like Glenwood Springs it's probably acceptable.

Yelp
Amazing! Best menu around! We live in eagle county, but will happily drive the 45 mins to this place before even stepping foot in a sushi restaurant around here. Great waitress, great space! They got it right :) Our compliments to the sushi bar, and kitchen chef!!!! Our new favorite place. Cant wait to go back!!!

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night and for a table of 6, we were seated right away. We ordered quite a bit of food -Wakame salad - good but they barely filled up my plate -spicy edamame wasn't spicy at all nor sweet like hoisin sauce? I wouldn't order again unless you like sweet edamame -Upgrade you Sashimi plate which was amazing, it was spicy though compared to regular sashimi so be warned! -Rainbow roll was amazing! Highly recommend if you love thin slices of lemon on top of your rolls...it adds a nice tang -I'm not sure what it was called but it was as a salmon roll and it was okay, I felt like the sauce was overpowering the raw fish Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back to this sushi spot when around this area! It's just a long wait for the food bc there is only one sushi chef making the food. There are plenty of waitresses though.

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
We are very sorry for having arrived at this place, the service was horrible, the waitress looked at us as if we stink. For the first time, my family and I experienced being treated with racism and it is sad because thanks to us businesses can provide work. I hope they improve their services and train their staff well to treat customers kindly.

Yelp
Delicious and unique sushi. It's only about 10 minutes from all of the resorts in Glenwood Springs as well as I-70. Very lovely atmosphere with excellent service. I highly recommend, best sushi I've had.
google avatar

Cathie W.

Yelp
Love the food and service at this neighborhood restaurant! The authentic sushi is super yummy and there are other great choices for people who are less enthusiastic about sushi. My husband loved the Poke Bowl
google avatar

Clarissa I.

Yelp
Convenient location. We found this place as we stopped at the little market next door for road trip snacks. We ordered take out for our last day on vacation. Sushi was fresh and yummy to eat!
google avatar

Brianne P.

Yelp
went here for my early birthday get toeghter on March 18th n my friend and coworker set it up too , they have the best sushi better then mings and i want come back here and try the other sushi rolls too

Mariana A.

Yelp
As soon as you walk through the door there is a "please wait to be seated" sign. Literally stood there for 15 minutes and no one helped or acknowledged us.
google avatar

Erlyn G.

Yelp
Please update the actual business hours as to not confuse customers. We called the restaurant at 8:57 pm and the waitress told us dine in is closed at 9:00 pm but we could still order for take out which was fine with us. We showed up 5 mins later and was told the kitchen is closed and they are also not doing any to go orders. We were totally confused since they said they were still doing to go and business hours on websites say they were open till 10 pm.
google avatar

Madelyn L.

Yelp
Our first time visiting this restaurant. We had locals recommend it and we are glad we went. The sushi was delicious, the pho was super flavorful and I loved the spicy edamame.

Liv M.

Yelp
Food is great especially the ramen.. Will definitely recommend it to my friends. The only downside is we waited almost an hour to get seated

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped by here after a drive up Four Mile and decided to try this place on impulse. The two ladies working the floor and bar were pleasant and friendly which is more than we can say for the sushi chef. We arrived shortly after they opened at 3:00 which might be why it took so long to get our sushi. My lady ordered the all you can eat since it was Wednesday afternoon. She started with the hot and sour soup which was a bit sweet and a sunset roll. The fish atop the roll was chewy and possibly even still frozen. She also ordered a miso soup which she sent back since it tasted like water with only a hint of miso. The yellowtail sashimi was fairly decent but not enough to compensate for the disgusting fish on the sunset roll.

Buckhum M.

Yelp
I was craving some rolls and this place really hit the spot. Dishes were served quickly. The spicy tuna is decently spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Shrimp tempura was nice and crispy. Dragon roll was an interesting blend of sweet, salty, and crunchy tempura. The chef and waitress were super friendly and welcoming, which was also a plus. Overall this is a really solid restaurant.

Yelp
Wednesday and Thursday AYCE. (All you can eat) Decent sushi. Better than that place in Carbondale... Not gonna 5 star them though. I lived in Portland, Oregon . I give "The Best" 5 stars. And that's Miyamoto! Montavillaaaa! Wut-Up!!?
google avatar

Stephen P.

Yelp
Best sushi in the valley hands down!!!!... Very clean, easy going environment. Dynamite roll is heaven sent. Lucky is amazing!!!
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Not gonna lie I was hesitant to jump on board with my husbands desire for sushi while we were here; how do you really get good sushi in the middle of the mountains? I was wrong, Kanpai delivered and it was some of the best sushi I've had. We enjoyed the small space & the staff was friendly; met local, Marty, who recommended several rolls to us and we were not disappointed. Don't be put off by the location, it's worth it.

Tanner J.

Yelp
Went in tonight and everything was great in terms of service, drinks, and food. Unfortunately technology let them down tonight with their computers but Tia was amazing in her handling of the situation and we will definitely be back because she was so apologetic and professional and so awesome!
google avatar

Yelp
We eat sushi in FL and not many other places. But OMG this little hidden jewel was mouth watering amazing! Joe made custom rolls that made us go drop jaw!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere to eat in Glenwood Springs after 10 pm... a tricky feat to accomplish if one doesn't want food that comes from a drive thru. We figured we'd give Kanpai a try and settle for bento boxes if necessary. It's a small restaurant tucked in next to a gas station off the main drag in GS, but we were happily surprised! The fish was sooo good and our waiter was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. He was able to help me, a novice sushi eater, find dishes that I could share with my bf, who is a serious sushi connoisseur. We had the "salmon paradise" (exactly as it sounds) and the "rocky mountain roll" (spicy tuna, unagi, and yamagobo), as well as a bowl of Japanese udon. We will definitely go back to Kanpai the next time we're in town.
google avatar

Bryan M.

Yelp
What did I just eat? This was sushi?? God no!! We're from the city, and I kept thinking to myself before going here, it must take a while for sushi of any type to get to this location. It's horrible sushi. It looks like the sushi in some aspects came from some can, and were just clumped together for presentation purposes. I read reviews saying it's the best sushi in Glenwood Springs, likely because it's the only sushi in Glenwood Springs that's open until 12am. It's a sushi restaurant/gas station you might say. I vote, stay away. Far, far away!!!
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Terrible sushi!!! The first time it wasn't great.. This time- it's done . Worst sushi we've ever had. (And being from California, we eat a LOT of sushi) the yellowtail was horrendous- and when we sent it back they came out & offered to open a new freshly defrosted (read previously frozen) once we saw this we knew it was time to get the check & head out. I will not be back..

Yelp
So this was a Valentine's Day dinner. I had called to make a reservation and when we arrived, our table was taken by family waiting for takeout. We found room at the bar which was fine as the atmosphere is really cool. They had a guitar player and a young lady came up to sing with him on a few songs and it was charming. This place has a real nice local feel to it which we really enjoyed. The sushi was very tasty, however, we waited over an hour to receive our food. It seems that the takeout orders have a precedence over those dining in which seems a little backwards to me. I understand this is more of a local place for those that live in town, however, you always take care of those in front of you first. They did recognize our frustration and discounted our bill which helps with my review of three stars. I haven't decided if I will return on my next trip to Glenwood but there is a possibility.

Robert F.

Yelp
went there after a day on the river for dinner, sushi was good, service excellent. Little disappointed you no longer served the dragon wings, was told where you got them from went out of business, but the owner is working on something to get them back. Hope so soon! We be back!

Kailyn F.

Yelp
Wonderful experience! Went for my 21st birthday and had some great food and drinks. I will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Julie W.

Yelp
Excellent sushi and appetizers. Try the mount Sopris roll or any of the other special rolls and you will not be disappointed. Watch out for the chashio sliders. They are very spicy! Dragon wings are yummy. Only reasons for a four instead of five are timeliness and price. Cool decor and lots of hd Tvs.
google avatar

Patti C.

Yelp
Loved it! Simple clean decor, low armchair seating for a change. Amazingly fresh sushi. The four mile sushi roll is to die for.
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
Just had a dinner on Memorial Day: it's more of a bar than a Sushi restaurant but its food tastes reasonably good. Given 80% of Sushi is all about rice and they definitely know how to cook and prepare rice, so there you have it

Ed L.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the food is really good. Now that that's out of the way, the down and dirty of it is that the parking sucks. It's out in the middle of nowhere and we had to park and walk quite a ways away. It is loud and the table was sticky. It took about ten minutes to place our order. There is only one sushi chef and he is in no hurry to get food out. It was all you can eat sushi night and it "only" took him an hour and a half to get our first order to us. Our second order has been in for forty five minutes now. I don't think I will come here again or recommend this place to anyone. Unless I wanted to waist there time. So far it's been three hours I wish I spent someplace else. (Still So hungry )
google avatar

Bree R.

Yelp
Sushi was good... when we finally got it an hour later. The service was horrible! It took an hour to even get our drinks and food.. we would have said something to the waitress had she been around at all. She disappeared into the the back and we saw her twice after we arrived. We got our food before the appetizer, which was freezing cold. And because the sushi was pretty good we didn't complain too much but I'll never go back due to the crap service we got , or should I say didn't get at all. Overall, I wouldn't recommend going there to anyone. Go to Zheng's!!
google avatar

Lou G.

Yelp
We arrived about 7:15pm on 6/18/17. We were greeted as we walked in. We sat and the waiter brought us water on one trip and then menus on another trip. They weren't super busy (3 tables with 4 guests). There were two wait staff. The table behind us left and the waiter was more interested in clearing that table than in taking our order. After 25 minutes (7:40pm)of waiting we walked out. The food may get great reviews, but the service stinks. We will not return.

Marsh C.

Yelp
From outside doesn't look like very much. Inside very clean and nice atmosphere . Had sushi Latin fire roll , Sunrise roll is amazing and crispy spicy tuna . Had many more is all fresh and tastes amazing Best sushi in Glenwood for sure , I'd go as far as saying Glenwood to aspen

Mickie M.

Yelp
This is a very unique place. The edamame was delicious and cheap for only $4 . We loved the sushi and it tasted very good!
google avatar

Drake K.

Yelp
The food was amazing!!! I am visiting colorado from LA and never expected good sushi in areas like this. The customer service was better than any places in LA. I strongly recommend this place for sushi!!
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
The food was great, the wait not so much. We ordered sushi rolls and a ramen. The ramen came almost instantly, but the sushi took about 45 min

M G.

Yelp
Definitely the best sushi restaurant in Glenwood Springs. Great owners and staff! Free live music on Fridays and a great happy hour menu Monday thru Friday. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Claire W.

Yelp
Loved the vibe in this restaurant, my boyfriend and I sat in the big easy chairs. There were 2 big TVs so he could watch his stupid sports, which of course he loved. Their happy hour starts at 3, so we showed up at 3, not realizing that was also when they open. The sushi guy was late so we couldn't even get in until about 10 after 3, so that was a let down. Once we were served, though, the food was delicious and the people very friendly. We got the ribs as an appetizer and they were the best I've had at a sushi restaurant. My boyfriend is allergic to beer so they let him order a cocktail as substitute for the happy hour menu (which has drinks with only hops), which was kind and unexpected.
google avatar

Savvy J.

Yelp
We had a lite dinner. The food was pretty good but the service was really slow Ginger martinis made with pickled ginger and I really prefer real or candied - leaves an aftertaste otherwise. It took for ever even to get miso soup and the kicker? When the bill came it had a place at the bottom recommending a tip of 25% up to 40% I would only tip 40% for a Master Chef who perfectly carved stacks of sushimi not for slow-moving vegetable rolls. Will try them again another time.
google avatar

Gabriel S.

Yelp
The quality of the fish is good, but the portion sizes are small. For 6 pieces in a roll, that'll cost about $10+. There is a great happy hour menu though! I think you can get an appetizer, a roll, and a drink for $10.
