"Mixing the flavors of the Philippines and Mexico, Kaon! was operating out of a ghost kitchen located around Pico-Union, but they’ve just opened up a DTLA location - with outdoor dining. The menu is filled with a mix of Filipino staples, like beef kare-kare, oxtail adobo, and lechon kawali, but what you want to focus on is the sisig taco. If you’re used to the mixed meat dish over rice, this taco is a little different - it’s a bit less stew-y, and has a good amount of crunch. It’s filled with twice-cooked pork belly, and seasoned with onions, jalapeños, and just a touch of calamansi for a fresh, flavor-packed taco." - Kat Hong

I ordered from Kaon! Last night for their soft opening. The food was fantastic. The Chicken Chile Verde Taco was saucy, spicy and delicious. The tortillas are hearty and chewy. The veggie chayote taco was a great veggie option with Soyrizo spicing up the potatoes and squash. The Pinoy Fried Chicken taco was bomb, but hint: add the salsas and toppings or you’ll get fried chicken on a tortilla. It was any first time at Kaon! so now I know for next time. My husband ordered the beef and pork tacos and said the pork was cooked perfectly. He loved it. The mixed veggies and cheese empanada was delicious. The dough was chewy instead of the flaky crust I’m used to. I loved the variation. I’m excited to welcome Kaon! to the neighborhood. This area is home to several great Mexican restaurants, and Kaon’s fusion is a very welcome addition. I can’t wait to try new items next time.

SO. FRIKKING. YUM. I was so sad when I saw that they closed initially-- but then I found out that they re-opened in a new location, and I was so happy! This time around I got the Sisig on top of a garlic rice bowl and OMG. So yum! The Sisig was crunchy and savory and really just hit the spot! I will say though, they still give you a ton of rice but I feel like the portion of meat was good enough (maybe they can make the change? I know I saw a couple of reviews stating that there is way too much rice) Also, the garlic was a little bit weak for my taste, but im a crazy garlic lover-- I wish they had an option to add more garlic (especially the fried garlic). I also got two tacos: Asada and Shrimp. Both are very good! The asada was perfectly seasoned and much tastier than a couple of the neighboring restaurants. The shrimp though? SOOOOO GOOD! I dont know what they did to it, but it was so well seasoned and cooked-- I really enjoyed it with the cream sauce and pickled cabbage. So yummy. Lastly, the Ube Horchata. I just can't. I literally dream about this drink, it's kind of embarrassing. But im so glad Kaon is back and even closer to my home! Welcome to the neighborhood Kaon!
