In Zambia, You Can Take a Safari—On Foot. Here's How. - AFAR

"A small luxury bushcamp made up of four thatched cabins, each with a wall that opens directly onto the banks of a shallow river fringed by sausage trees; the camp emphasizes intimate, high-end experiences in the bush, including actual in-river sundowner gin-and-tonics." - Bailey Berg

(Oct 2024 visit): Kapamba was an incredible, intimate experience. The staff was incredible and we loved getting to know Jacob (camp manager), Francis (guide), Stanley (dining captain), and the rest of the team at Kapamba. It was very fun to see how well the staff operated like a team and took pride in presenting the camp in the best possible light. Our accommodations were comfortable and clean, we felt very safe, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed being immersed in the South Luangwa National Park. The camp wasn't at full capacity which was fortuitous because we were able to form closer connections with the 3 other guests and the guide & camp staff. We really appreciated the many lunch and dinner conversations with Jacob and Francis where they shared anecdotes about their lives in South Luangwa and explained details about Zambian history and ecotourism. We enjoyed our two bush meals (make your own pizza lunch & dinner under the stars), and we were grateful for the pool during the hot siesta time of day. Overall the experience was fantastic and we would definitely recommend this camp to others!

For the second stop on our Zambia Family Adventure we met Thomas and Francis from the Bush camp company on the bank of the Luwanga river (Transfer from Robin Pope Safaris) who then drove us on a four hours game drive to Kapamba. We arrived to a very warm welcome from Jacob and the rest of the team who would be looking after us. The challets were nice enough, it took a little bit to used to the open nature of them, but they closed up with metal gates at night. Jacob explained that the animals think they are traps so stay away. The central building where the dining area, campfire, and swimming pool is located was nicely shaded and had a great view of the river. The food at the camp was excellent 👌 we even had a make your own pizza activity for lunch out in the bush during one of the game drives. The game drives were fantastic, Thomas our guide and Amon the park ranger had fantastic knowledge and really helped us get to see not only the big thing but also the little things. We got to see so many animals including Elephants, Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo, Warthogs, Hyenas, Wild Dogs, and Leopards. Our last evening drive ended with Sundowners while sitting on chairs in the middle of the river. On the drive back to the main lodge we came across a pride of lionesses with a couple of young cubs, a perfect way to end our Safari.

Idyllic location on Kapamba River...stunning renovated rooms, amazing food and great staff. Now with the swimming pool its even better although the water was very cold, but nice in the heat. Can't wait to be back at Christmas!

Truly off the grid, but that doesn't mean you have to rough it. One of the most beautiful wild places I've ever been to.

We loved our stay at Kapamba, as part of our week with Bushcamp company in the S. Luangwa. We stayed 2 nights in 3 camps (Chamilandu, Kapamba, and Bilimungwe) and loved them all. They are each unique. Kapamba is the only one that has a pool, which was refreshing (we only put our feet in) in the hot afternoon. Lovely people (thank you Jacob and team!), great food (thank you, Dixon!), great game walks and drives (thank you, Francis and Leonard), very nice and spacious chalet (very comfortable bed with huge mosquito net) looking into the trees and to the Kapamba river. Excellent game viewing. Relaxing time in camp reading, having tea, siestas. Thank you, we'll be back!
