"Downtown LA Indian restaurant Kapoor’s Akbar is known for spicy vegan fries that can be made decidedly non-vegan by loading them up with a runny egg and ground lamb masala." - Farley Elliott, Mona Holmes

New addition to the restaurant offering is a unique "Indian street food menu" under the name Kati Roll Company -- for pick up, delivery and eat in the outside patio. The east-west coast competition Indian equivalent of "crust", the Kati has a more flaky, lighter crust and the Frankie a more substantial and doughy one out of naan. Available in bowls as well. We are always surprised that the DTLA place (with free parking inside the building!!) doesn't do SRO business. Indian food updated by a third generation chef in a colorful, small place - "heat" not spiky peppers warm this food.

Oct 2021 Update: visited the restaurant again post pandemic lockdown for dinner, they added some new dishes. My new favorite blue crab curry. It was Yumm!! Love the flavors. Went there for lunch and loved the food options. Had chicken tamattar lunch option and loved it. Portions are huge even for lunch :)

Wow what a surprising find! This place had enticed us teasingly with its misleading open sign for a long time. Downtown has no decent Indian restaurants, and so we (Brahma Loca and I) have been very ready for this to open. On the way to regular pho place for lunch in Chinatown, we saw people coming out, so we screeched to a stop. The service was outstanding, the woman in the pomaded duck tail was very obliging and informative. The menu was very peculiar in a good way: it had all the regular northern Indian stuff, but it also had really odd things like pork vindaloo and blue crab curry, too. Of course that's what we got, along with sweet nan. It came up VERY fast and was VERY good, and spicy in that really good Indian way where you feel blissfully Serene afterwards. Nearly enlightened, in fact. We might have even acheived mohksa. We will certainly return and I highly recommend it. PS I was fascinated to see that they had little USB chargers at the table

Great amazing flavor from a restaurant that has been around in Pasadena for 20 years and now recently moved to this dtla location. Free easy parking in a garage. Great friendly service. Good mix of some fusion items (lamb sliders and dirty fries) with more traditional dishes. I will be back.

We ordered a takeout for dinner from Kapoor's Akbar Indian Restaurant. The lady at the reception taking the order was really helpful and smiling. We ordered a tandoori chicken masala, chilean sea bass, bhindi and naan. I would say that the Chilean sea bass was expensive for the quantity and the taste. Other things were fine. The restaurant was clean, well managed, and everyone was wearing masks. They did offer some discounts for ordering online which we did not know before we placed the order. Overall, I would not say that I would highly recommend it but it's fine for a general take out. As compared to the quality of food, I would consider it to be a bit on the pricier side.

Highly recommended! Service is amazing! Food is great! We live nearby, so we decided to give it a try. And it worth it! Great location, delicious food, nice and affordable drinks. Absolutely love it!

I was fortunate to be treated to a marvelous meal last night at Kapoor's Akbar Indian Restaurant in downtown LA. Thanks so much to the DTLA Weekly for the good times 😄. The food and the service were outstanding and I will be back soon 👍

Yelp
Attempted a weekday lunch here. Whatever Indian Restaurant that was at this address is now closed.

Yelp
Had an odd experience for my first time here. I was just picking up an online order and ordered a side of rice ($5) when I got there since it wasn't available on the online menu. To set the scene, it was empty inside the restaurant, just me in there and a customer coming in after me. I promise I ordered normally and didn't have any attitude (because if I did, I'd understand their reaction). As a response to hearing from the cashier what the order was, I got a weird death glare from both the older woman and younger man. As the younger man went to get rice for me he glared at me the entire time. I watched him pass by me and back behind the counter to leave the rice for the cashier to grab. I proceeded to wait 5 minutes for the rice while the man stood behind the counter doing nothing. Got back to my car, and realized there was hair in my rice. All of this left me wondering if the hair was an accident or vindictive.

Yelp
Used to come here a few years ago, thing's have serious changed I had a craving for delicious Karpoors but I'm sad it was not the same taste, food seemed watered down portions where small and seasoning was way to salty the naan was covered in oil. The restaurant was empty and dinghy, that should have been my hint to leave. Indias clay pot will be getting all my attention from now on. Still edible but definitely not going back again. Food kept me up all night ugh my belly Just went to one star upset stomach all night even this morning so disappointed with this place it used to be good.

Yelp
The food is incredible and worth every penny. Service is quick and lovely. I will be returning.

Yelp
So so good! And amazing service too. Came here after my gym sesh at EOS. Ordered an all berry smoothie, chicken Tamattar, and lentil soup. Everything is al a carte so I ordered a side of basmati rice. Next time I def want to get the garlic naan. The all berry smoothie was the perfect post workout drink! Super refreshing and fresh. You can choose the spiciness level on any of your dishes (1 being mild, 4 being the spiciest). The chicken tamattar was a coconut tomato based dish, similar to chicken tiki masala without the heavy cream. The waiter brought out sauces and the Serrano mint one went really good with the lentil soup! Such a dope spot. Will def be back!

Yelp
Amazing food. Previously ate here before the pandemic and I remember their eggplant dish was super flavorful. This time I Ordered through Grubhub. Got the brussel sprouts and paneer makhani. Both were so flavorful. The paneer makhani was a bit oily but didn't bother me too much. I just tried to remove some of the oil with a spoon and paper towels. I got level 2 spicy and it was a good level of spicy. I don't think I can go any higher. Portion is pretty good. Definitely will order again but I do wish they had chicken makhani.

Yelp
I'm fortunate enough to live a short walk from this restaurant, and I visit about once every 6 weeks. They have an extensive menu, and I'm ashamed to say that I mostly stick with chicken and vegetable dishes (though I am itching to try their Chilean sea bass). The flavors are outstanding; I'm particularly enamored with their onion bhaji appetizers. My two complaints are a little petty. First, I wish they included a side order of rice; for most entrees, you have to order that separately, which is an annoying thing to discover when you get your food for carry-out or delivery. Second, the interior of the restaurant is a little dim. It's sort of an old-fashioned dining experience. But I'll keep coming back.

Yelp
Every single dish is amazing. Kapoor's Akbar serves delicious Indian food that should be experienced by everyone! Strawberry Lassi (5) - This is so delicious and refreshing. Chana Samosa Chat (9) - So many flavors, the texture is perfect. The samosas are open and crispy. The fillings are heavily seasoned. Garlic Cheese Naan (7) - So much gooey cheese inside. I could eat this by itself, but it was a great vessel for our dish. Chicken Tikka Masala (16) - A good portion, but wish it came with rice / plain naan. This dish packs a good punch and I wanted soop up my plate Tandori Salmon (20) - We rarely order salmon, but this dish was recommended by a friend. The fish was flakey and perfect. Came out piping hot and large. The inside is very humble. A little dark, but you can you can smell the spices from across the street! I would say more casual vibes, and focused on the food. Next time we want to try the Kati Roll / Coco Lamb. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Yelp
We ordered a small side of rice, spicy fries, and the tandoori chicken. This was our second time ordering from this restaurant, and bottom line is our first experience was much better than this time around. The fries are definitely not as advertised on their menu (I have attached a picture of how they advertise the fries). Instead we got regular fries that lacked seasoning for almost $9. The chicken is advertised as half a chicken, so I'm not sure how the two small pieces we got equate to that and to almost $20. While the serving size is not what I expected, the flavor is delicious. The flavor of the chicken is what made me rate this restaurant 3 stars. Overall, I was disappointed in the portion sizes in relation to the price, as well as the fries not being anything close to what's advertised.

Yelp
I ordered from this place multiple times when I was traveling to LA. It was always a hit or a miss. This one time they sent me a burnt bread. They were never consistent with their quality or their orders. Sometimes their taste for the same city was so different that you couldn't tell if you ordered the same thing. You can skip this place.

Yelp
I always love Indian food AYCE. Have no chance of doing that due to COVID, so went to try this place out during Dine LA week. I got there a bit after their promised time. There was a customer waiting inside the restaurant when I got there, so I chose to wait outside. After a bit, I went in again and see if I can get helped. My to-go order was not ready. (Dine in is not available ) While I was waiting inside the store, I tried to keep my distance with the others. When I got the food, it was definitely not enough for 4 people as promised. And for this order, we got 1 Naan to share among 4 people. The mushroom soup so small, the bhartha was too spicy, the dessert was too sweet and also as small as the soup. The other meat taste good especially the chicken kebab. Not as advertised.

Yelp
Service: pick up for lunch on a Wednesday Location: between Echo Park and Chinatown. Close to my house Food: Everything tastes and looks so fresh! Chutneys - incredible! I would come back just for the coconut based chutney that came with my Somosa! It is very spicy though, but you can't help wanting to dip everything in it. There is also a green chutney. Very fresh as well. Seems like everything is made in house (going to have to guess these things since everything is to go these days). My order: Chana somosa chat - somosas were good, but the chutneys made it amazing. Sag paneer - the taste of the spinach was great! The cheese seems so fresh too and it actually squeaked when I chewed and had a create texture versus being mushy. I ordered Med spice, but if you got a spoon full it got a bit spicy. Garlic naan - good naan. Probably better if I got to eat in and have it while it was warm. Mango lassi- this was good as well. Not too thick and not too watery. It was creamy but wasn't too heavy. (Some lassis can make me full by itself ) I happened to have eaten vegetarian yesterday, but I can't wait to try the other dishes with meat in it.

Yelp
They did not give me everything I ordered, refused to reimburse me and then hung up on me twice when I was trying to resolve issue

Yelp
A friend celebrated her birthday here. We all had a wonderful time with delicious food and excellent service. It was organized for a preset menu for us, by the time the appetizers were out, I was already stuffed. And we still had the main course to eat! My favorite dish was the Chilean Sea Bass!!! O.M.G. melts in your mouth good! Full of delicious flavor and served on a sizzling platter. I will definitely come back for this dish! Indian Fried Chicken. Crispy and marinated. It was delicious with a kick of spice. The meat was very tender and juicy filled with flavor. Dirty Fries were amazing. Fries topped with marinated ground lamb and a sunny side up egg! The spicy garlic shrimp was delicious. The shrimps were plump and crispy. A little too spicy for me but I couldn't resist. Ordered a Mango Lassi to wash down the heat. LAMB- I do like lamb but sometimes I'm a little bit sensitive to the after taste of the meat. This dish was good, but my sensitivity to the meat taste turned me off. Tikka Masala- Another good dish but the meat taste was an overbearing for sensitive taste bud. Cheese Nan was so good. Melting hot cheese in a thick nan. Just like a quesadilla but better! Thank you Chef Avi for coming out to introduce us and explaining the dishes to us. It was a great experience and I will definitely be back! Plenty of free parking in the back of the shopping center. Right outside of Chinatown on Cesar Chavez Street

Yelp
People questioned me about Indian Food in Chinatown. Really?!?! Chinatown has much more than just Chinese or even Asian food, like Howlin' Rays (Hot Chicken), so why not Indian food?? Anyways, if you have a hankering for Indian food near DTLA, come here. It is located on W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. There is a parking lot in the back (tricky to find) or you can try your luck with metered street parking. Once inside, I noticed the large picture on the wall as well as the smaller framed pictures. I liked the ambiance in the restaurant! It's a nice place for couples and groups! Chev Avi was warm and welcoming and talked with us about some of the dishes. That was a nice touch! I don't recall our server's name, but she was quite attentive. We were a group of 9 and she also had other tables and was still able to ensure we had what we needed. The dishes we had were all delicious! My pictures will tell you exactly what we enjoyed. I totally loved the Chilean Sea Bass and could have been happy eating that alone! Thank goodness we had other dishes so I wasn't tempted! The Bhindi Masala was yummy, too! Spending a number of childhood years in India, I can't recall ever having a Cheese Naan! This was the first time I tried one and it reminded me of a Mexican Quesadilla, but much cheesier! I never really ate shrimp as a child (but I do now!), so I don't have a frame of authentic reference, but I did take a liking to the Spicy Garlic Shrimp! We had Coco Lamb of which I ate at the restaurant and as leftovers... so rich and wonderful! We also had the Fried Chicken - it was super moist and came with a mango habanero sauce that had a little heat and was a little sweet. Speaking of mangoes, I had the Mango Lassi & it was good! It was a great time of eating together with friends! Our tummies and hearts were full as we left. We took a group photo with Chef Avi as we were leaving. I definitely hope to be back! I would love more Chilean Sea Bass and Coco Lamb! The Tandoori Lamb Chops sounds like something I need to taste! We didn't get any desserts, but I love rice pudding, so I'd like to try their Kesari Kheer! If you find yourself deciding where to eat, please come check this place out!

Yelp
As another reviewer has mentioned, this restaurant seems to have closed down and been replaced by another operator but still trading under this name on Uber Eats. Food quality has gone done down (poor taste, much smaller portions) after this change.

Rex H.

Yelp
So much for ordering for pick up. We ordered through an app, so we could stop by on way home for take out. We arrived, and they were just putting the order in. The kitchen staff was more into their own socializing vs trying to get food prepared for waiting customers. This restaurant plainly seems to rely on non-repeat business. Highly suggest to move on. Give the next restaurant a try.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to try Kapoor with a group of friends and I would say this is the BEST Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Our group actually tried so many items in the menu which include: BRUSSELS SPROUTS Vegan. Brussels sprouts sautéed cooked tossed in spices. DIRTY FRIES Fries topped with spiced ground lamb masala, sunny egg CHEESE NAN NaN stuffed with cheddar, Parmesan and cream cheese CHANA SAMOSA CHAT Samosa topped with tomatoes, onion & chana masala, and a variety of chutneys - tangy, sweet, spicy. SPICY GARLIC SHRIMP Shrimp prepared with garlic, onions and crushed peppers. CHICKEN TIKKA Boneless chicken meat marinated in spices Chef Avi sure does know how to impress his guests by preparing all these delectable dishes himself. He's not only a very respectable chef but an amazing host as well. He even invited our group to his kitchen to show us how each dish was prepared from scratch. As expected, everything was very delicious so we devoured these fabulous eats like there's no tomorrow. I loved them all but I would say that the garlic shrimp was my favorite although I heard coco lamb is a must try. Our lady server was very friendly and attentive. So sorry to have missed her name because I was too busy munching on the scrumptious meal. Can't wait to come back and try more of Chef Avi's entrees.

Yelp
Kapoor's Akbar is a stylish restaurant near Chinatown. We had a fabulous experience there! From Roti appetizers to tender flaky naan, to delicious entrees of Blue Crab Curry and Masala Beef, the food was delicious. The service was friendly and efficient, and Chef Avinash came out of the kitchen to greet us. The menu is extensive, and we can't wait to go back for another wonderful meal!

Kedar D.

Yelp
This is the worst North Indian food I've had in Los Angeles in the seven years I've lived here. On the plus side, Kapoor's Akbar has decent ambiance and nice service. It also labels all its vegan items and many other dishes can be made vegan using coconut milk instead of cream or butter. The samosa ($5.50) is vegan by default, but the pastry shell had a weird flavor and the potato filling was bland and under-salted. The gobi aloo side portion ($8) had poorly mixed seasoning, resulting in some bites that were bland and others that were bitter due to excessive turmeric. The chana masala side portion ($7) comes swimming in oil and had almost no flavor. What a terrible dish. The bhindi masala side portion ($9) was also bland and unmemorable. For breads, their roti ($3) and aloo paratha ($3) both suffered from being too doughy. The paratha was also under-cooked. Don't come here. If you're looking for better North Indian food, go to India's Restaurant in Silverlake or All India Cafe in Glendale.

Ankush A.

Yelp
Ordered aloo paratha and chai. Parntha was too oily, flavorless and thick. Chai was absolute garbage, worse than hotel room tea. Server was friendly but service was too slow. Food was not good at all, would not come again.

Jordan T.

Yelp
Ordered from an online portal. Entrees do not include rice. Their online menu doesn't call this out, nor does it suggest to 'Add rice' like most 'A-la-carte' restaurants do. Called to raise the concern and the owner told me it was my fault and that he cannot call all 300 million people in the US to tell them their food doesn't come with rice. My point is, if I'm ordering 18$ Tikka Masala and 4$ Naan from a restaurant in East LA can you not include 25 cents worth of rice? If you cannot then I am willing to pay for it (Heck, I'm already $22 in) - Why not just say 'This meal does not come with rice', and suggest ordering rice as a side - Every online ordering system offers this (Optional) feature. I am a huge fan of Indian cuisine (All regions), Pakistani, Sri Lankan food, the works - This is the first time EVER i have been delivered a dish without rice. This restaurant tried to translate their in-store 'a-la-carte' experience to ordering on Uber Eats/Grubhub and did a piss poor job of being empathetic to their user. The food is actually quite tasty and high quality. I'd give their naan 4.5/5 and chicken tikka masala the same (4.5/5) - I just don't know why if you put that much effort into your food you wouldn't make the effort to ensure online orders get exactly what they're expecting after a 1.5 hour wait.

Denise R.

Yelp
Ordered from Uber eats since I'm at work and halfway through my meal I found some sort of fly in my aloo paratha. I'm disappointed that I spent over $50 for this quality. The gulab also is cold and feels frozen

David C.

Yelp
While I was sad to learn Akbar's in Pasadena closed, as I live close by, I am glad to see the restaurant reopen in Downtown Chinatown. Having been a fan of their's since I lived on the West Side and would dine at their Santa Monica, South Bay, and Marina Del Rey locations, I personally feel this is the best Indian restaurant in Los Angeles. The flavors are amazing, and the quality of the food is always outstanding. The new location is small, but the Pasadena location was kind of small, too. At least this new location has parking in back. Pasadena is always a pain to find parking. Not here. Staff is friendly and helpful. The owner is here now, making sure things go smoothly with the transition and recipes. That's good, because sometimes I had trouble getting my food spicy enough at the Pasadena location. I don't think that will be a problem with the boss being here. Started with all the old favorites. The giant samosas, the spicy shrimp, which is amazing, and the Chicken 65. The only disappointment with the Chicken 65 was the tasted had gone from slightly spicy regular fried chicken (which my son loved) to a very spicy chicken that seemed more like chicken tikka. I liked it anyway, but my son found it too spicy for him and not to his liking, as it had been in the past. The rice, naan, and garlic naan were all terrific as usual. Had the chicken tikka masala, which was fantastic as always. I got a chicken madras spice level 5. Still not spicy enough, but spicier than in the past. I like my food hot. The flavor was amazing, though, and that's the most important. Can't recommend highly enough. I love Akbar's!

Eve V.

Yelp
Solid Kati rolls. Ordered takeout at this place after our original plan on Friday night fell through. Covid has limited options, hours and availability, but flexibility and patience is key. After our first option wasn't an option, we talked about other places and possibly just giving up and eating whatever we had in the fridge. I came across Kapoor's and quickly called in the order for a mango lassi, Kati rolls, and fries because they were going to close soon. There mango lassi was nice and thick, and not too sweet. The Kati rolls had a good flavor and were enough for one person (kinda sad I only ordered one). The fries were a little lacking, but I think it's because I didn't use the right sauce. I would try this place again and the fries another shot.

Oscar P.

Yelp
On Yelp they say they closed but still selling in Uber eats and grub hub under same name and "address". We order from them and we feel we got 1/2 what we paid for. Order 4 lunch meals and got rice for one meal and 2 naan. Went to the store to complain but outside has a different name with same address. Beware if their bad service.

Yenny D.

Yelp
Word on the street is that Kapoor's Akbar has been in Pasadena for the past 20 years and just recently moved locations to this stretch of town and I'm glad they did! We came on a rainy Friday night and were really glad we did. FOOD: - chicken tamattar - similar to chicken tikka, but not as buttery (which is definitely okay by me) Super flavorful, definitely had a spicy kick to it and delicious with naan - bharta - I love eggplant and really enjoyed the texture and flavor of this dish - cheese naan - apparently they are famous for this and I can see why! Stuffed with cheddar, parmesan and cream cheese, it is really delicious but you have to be careful with burning your mouth on the hot cheeses! The little side dishes they give are also very good but spicyyy so be careful when sampling! SERVICE: Super friendly and great! Their menu has the classics as well as some fusion-y options and are all pretty reasonably priced. Our server had good recommendations and refilled our water often enough so we were never thirsty :) VENUE/PARKING: On the smallish side, booths on one side and tables on the other - it was about half full when we arrived and people came in and out to pick up to-go orders as well. PLENTY of parking! This is located at the ground floor of a retirement home and where that short-lived Walmart Neighborhood Market used to be so there's a large parking garage (enter on Bunker Hill) Will definitely come back!

Sklar T.

Yelp
This place opened its doors one week after the chef/owner had closed the Pasadena location. The new location is a bit smaller than the last, and the menu seemed to be a little truncated as well. However, there are some newer, interesting dishes on the menu as well. I've always enjoyed their lamb chops. Grilled and seasoned wonderfully, i found the lamb chops to be quite moist and not gamey either. Another favorite dish was the Dungeness Crab Curry. Good amount of crab meat in a very creamy, yet mildly spicy, curry sauce. Just can't seem to get enough naan bread to soak up the left over curry for additional unctuous bites. There are also a few new dishes on the menu, such as the Lamb Slider and the Dirty Fries, which is masala spiced ground lamb over hand cut fries. Both are really tasty, though I enjoyed the sliders better. Service here is good, but as with the Pasadena location, you may need to be a little bit patient waiting for your food, but it's definitely worth it. Parking lot entrance is off Bunker Hill Drive, located just west of Grand Avenue. 4.5 Stars. Rounding it up.

Shahriar M.

Yelp
I got into this place because of traffic jam . Their lamb korma stands out . The sauce is so yummy . Also tried their sag paneer and it is good too . Quick service and I was happy

Ray J.

Yelp
This place has great value. It's pretty good indian food at a very affordable prices. They have both traditional food and their own attempts to be trendy/fusion. I thought some of their creative stuff was kinda dumb but to reach their own. The location isn't trendy, but parking is incredibly easily. Free parking structure attached to the restaurant, no validation needed. (This is big for me because parking is the biggest barrier when I'm eating downtown.) The street its on isnt nice enough to take a date but this is the perfect place to get reasonably priced lunch, casual dinner, or takeout.

Jasmine B.

Yelp
Kapoor's Akbar definitely serves Amazing Indian food! My go to dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala, which I ordered yesterday. The Chicken Tikka Masala is the perfect spice with almonds and yellow raisins, which takes it to the next level. The lunch special is a generous portion. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try as you won't be disappointed. To top it off, the ambience and customer service is amazing!

Hina A.

Yelp
Still one of our favorites! Warm people and amazing food! Their best is the cheese naan, akbari kofta and the cheese naan - def ask for butter on the naan!

Craig Y.

Yelp
Located off W Cesar E Chavez in Los Angeles. There is parking behind which could be easily missed as well as street parking. The place is small and can fill up pretty fast. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent as well. The chef even came to check and see how everything was going. The food was good we had a group of us and had a pre set meal menu. My favorites were the sea bass and the lamb both items very yummy and I would get those. They also had this mango smoothie which was so good as well those are made in house and on the spot. Overall a nice little place.

Rachel I.

Yelp
Great customer service, best indian food I've ever had( and I've eaten a lot of Indian food over the years), and when you eat in, each table has a little USB to charge your phone. I've been coming here since they've opened and every single thing I've ordered was absolutely amazing. Did I mention the customer service! Love this place!

Penelope L.

Yelp
I didn't know we had Indian food in our area back then, and stumble across it as was visiting a nearby taco shop there and now they are the reason why I like the food so much now. Always a debate with friends and family what food to eat for special occasions. Indian food or chinese food. So when I win that debate, I make sure to grab extras and close by from work here on occasions if on this side of town. Price is a bit steep but I kinda expect that with inflation kicking in and they would have to absorb that cost due to stabled food prices going higher. Heck I remember chicken being too costly to even have for groceries as it ran out at Costco from these crazy times back then.

Christopher C.

Yelp
THE BEST INDIAN FOOD IN LOS ANGELES. *IF YOU ARE EVER IN LA YOU'DE BE DOING YOURSELF A DISSERVICE NOT TRYING THIS SPOT* I've had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant a couple times now. Every time I go I'm BLOWN AWAY. The first thing that stand sour here is THE FLAVORS. The dishes are all so delicious and well thought out, this is no low quality Indian spot, they're using quality ingredients and putting a lot of heart & intention into the food. THREE MUST HAVE DISHES: Saag Paneer (delicious creamy, spinach based with paneer cheese chunks that just melt in your mouth)it's very clear that this cheese is home made because of the amazing fresh creamy flavor. Chana Masala ( Grabanzo beans onions, tomato Bhubaneswar) incredibly refreshing and sweet, what seems like a simple dish is actually quite complex and refreshing. It's almost like eating a treat, great for those HOT days in Cali. Gobi Manchuria (cauliflower fried and covered in an incredible savory sauce, so perfectly crunchy on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside. I HAD TO ORDER ANOTHER GOBI APPETIZER ITS THAT GOOD!. IF YOU ARE INTO INDIAN FOOD AND HAVEN'T FONE HERE YOU DONT KNOW INDIAN FOOD. The inside is decorated very well, with a blend of classy & intimate. Beautiful chandeliers and stunning painted Indian murals on the wall. Not to mention the owner is a great down to earth guy!. MAKE THIS YOUR GO TO INDIAN SPOT YOU WONT REGRET IT. The things they are doing here with Indian food are elevating the cuisine as a whole. They only use the best ingredients and are always innovating and offering incredible new dishes that bring Indian food into the "now". I don't have a single complaint every time I've come here every single dish was just delectable. And I continue to be blown away by this "GEM" within Los Angeles.

Yelp
My affair with Indian cuisine started with this very restaurant in 2019. Since then I tried a lot of Indian restaurants but nothing can compare to this. Every dish I tried here is consistently good. Also servers are very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Nothing less than an extremely disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I came here some time last year, eager to give it a try since we live within walking distance and have tried (and LOVED) their cheese naan. We ordered over $80 worth of food and wow, it managed to lacked in nearly every area possible. It was towards the end of the day so we assumed that they gave us the left over scraps at the bottom of the dish. On top of that, there was a small piece of sharp, white plastic in one of our dishes (I took a photo but because I waited so long to give this review, I ended up deleting it). We called to tell the restaurant that the food was inedible (yes, that bad) except for the cheese naan. I wish I would've asked for the name of the man that answered because he is what turned this review from what could've been a 3 star to a 1. Even after mentioning the plastic and offering to come back to the restaurant to show him, he INSISTS that we are lying because "everything was homemade fresh every day". I calmly explained that the flavor and quality of the dishes didn't reflect his statement, to which he says "I find it very unlikely" Um...okay? What do you want me to do with your skepticism? For nearly 15 minutes and at least 3 additional "unlikely"'s, he finally gives us an agitated sigh and says "I don't have time for this" and asks for the card number I paid with. I understand the apprehension and trying to avoid giving out a free meal if someone is trying to take advantage, but if A customer pays for a meal that was considered inedible by them, then they deserve a refund as well as some professionalism. Luckily we received a refund after the whole exchange. We were willing to give this place another chance but because of the way we were spoken to, I find it very unlikely that we will be back here.

Yelp
I really used to love their food here but the quality has really gone downhill. Tonight's dal was like broth with a few lentils in it. And the chicken curry was not only what I didn't order but the meat was mostly gristle and I had to throw a lot of it away. Really too bad.

Yelp
This is my go to for Indian food. It's my favorite in the downtown / east side area! I've had so many dishes and haven't been disappointed yet. Yesterday I pre-ordered bharti, samosas and shashi veg with garlic naan for lunch delivery. It was delicious!

Yelp
We ordered a half-chicken tandoori, which came out to be closer in size to a quarter and was somewhat dry/drenched in the usual red food coloring. Next up was the Coco Lamba, which was absolutely swimming in oil; very unappetizing. In spite of being loaded with cardomom seeds and other spices, it was somewhat bland. They are also not generous with naan-- one order of garlic naan yielded a small, single piece. The one part of the order we enjoyed was the Bindhi masala, which was tangy without being overpoweringly so, and managed to avoid the sliminess that often characterizes okra dishes. In spite of small portions and disappointing quality, the relatively small order added up to $58. So, yeah, also not a value spot. If you want better, more interesting (read: fusion) Indian food at that price, try Badmaash. If you want better food at a lower price, try India's Restaurant, which remains the one traditional Indian restaurant in the city that hasn't yet disappointed me in dozens of visits. EDIT: I did notice a lot of reviewers mention there has been a recent decline in quality, which would explain a lot of the older 5-star reviews. I wish I got to try this place at its height!

Yelp
I feel like after being a regular for 5 years, I'm really being a jerk not praising this place sooner! I feel like I should start by saying that indian is my favorite cuisine and I'm SUPER picky. I grew up on Indian food off of Devon Ave in Chicago and then spent years in England. When I moved to LA, nothing felt quite "authentic". I found Kapoor's due to approximately to where I live and gave it a go. I have since then based all of my SoCal indian off of this place. I am in love with how their food is home style but also with a twist of trendy. The inside really represents both versions of themselves. When you ask for hot, be prepared because chef KNOWS indian hot. My "usual" is onion bhaji (with their house chutney. I always ask for extra because it's so perfectly balanced in flavor!), house salad with a full tandoori chicken (worth the extra cost for full AND it just works together!), garlic naan, and chicken tamattar (A+++ if you love tikka masala but want a coconut cream base. TRY IIITTTT!!!!!) I have been eating here at MINIMUM a couple times a month because of the pandemic. I am so grateful that they offer a 20% off coupon for my orders as an incentive to stay loyal. During "normal" times, this is a place I've taken out of town guests. It's just so delightful! I've never had a bad meal here and really thankful to have them so close. I really think the reviews on here are people who need something to complain about. I get it but this place is not it! Brb - time to order!

Yelp
How good is this place? Good enough that I'm going to get in the car and go pick it up when the Doordash app is down. When it's been raining. At the height of my dinner hanger. LA, you got tacos ON LOCK. Ain't nobody trying to rob you of that title? But Indian food that's delicious AND reasonably priced? Good. Luck. Kapoor's? Mana from heaven my friends. I get the same thing every time I cause I'm a creature of habit. Samosas that are perfectly flakey and a tasty spiced potato inside that isn't super heavy? Perf. Their raita is a no brainer slam dunk (I mean, it's not too hard to fuck that up... but there is plenty of tomato and cucumber and the crisp and crunch and cool are perfect.) Their chicken tikka? Man oh man. I order medium and that's pretty spicy and I'm a FAN of heat and spice. The order is a decent size and I could totally share with another person... but I'm not going to cause it's too good and I want lunch tomorrow. Finally? Garlic naan. It's great. The best part of Kapoor's? The people. Friendly and super helpful. What brought me here to leave this review after five years of ordering in was the fact that doordash was down or something. I called a few times and we tried to suss the problem. The woman on the phone said she was going to call the company and find out the issue. Long story longer I had to come in... not only did she give me a 20% discount (hella generous) she threw in a free desert. Which I haven't had yet cause I stuffed myself on food. But if it's anything like the rest of their food it's gonna rock.

Yelp
Who wouldn't love this place. The owner is a transplant from Pasadena and I literally grew up on his food. Imagine my surprise when I came back from College and he was gone gone gone. Then when driving home to Chinatown, I spotted a sign that reminded me of home so I took the chance to go in. It was Kapoors in DTLA!!! I order my old favorite. Spicy Garlic Shrimp... I missed it. The cheese naaan is phenom. This place daily gets 5 stars - If you think BadMaash is good you ain't tried nothing yet. BONUs!!! There is free parking - something you can't find in Downtown right?

Yelp
All the food here is absolutely next level. The biryani, the coco lamb, even just the tikka masala tastes more rich and flavorful than any Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Definitely beats all the other Infatuation-recommended Indian restaurants in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Hit or Miss! The chicken tikka masala sauce is extremely tasty, however the chunks of chicken are almost always extremely hard and stiff to bite down on. Not sure what part of the chicken they use, but it would be great if they considered changing it because the curry itself is great. Sometimes I get lucky with a few good pieces of chicken. If you decide to come here, definitely go for the cheese naan, it's a must.

Yelp
Easy pickup, great service, large portions. I order the crab curry with garlic naan and rice and it's always dependably finger licking good.

Yelp
I used to go to Akbar when it was located in Pasadena, and I'm glad to see it's alive and well near downtown. Indian food is among my favorites, so I'm glad to report Akbar is as good as I remembered it being when I first had it years ago. The standards of chicken tikka masala and gobi aloo are still available and are dishes that I immediately order without thinking twice. The garlic naan falls into that category as well. I did try a pork vindaloo this time which was pretty good. I hadn't had that before, so I'm interested to see what other new menu items they have that I might try next time. A note: When they say spicy, they mean it. The spice level is 1-5, and 4 is hoooooot. Take this from someone who knows spicy, stick to the 2-3 range and you'll be happier for it! Stay Cheerful ;)
