Fresno style Chinese food: big portions and low on flavor. I should have asked for it steamed. The pork fried rice was just pork. I was hoping for some vegetables in it. Free refills on the drinks. Service was great. I would have preferred there be no TV on the wall blasting the news the whole time. But it is a cute decor. Very 1950s Chinese restaurant style.

I'll sit down and eat here again. Peaceful. Made hot 🔥 served when made some deep cleaning needs to be done and a slight smell in the air. authentic if that is what you are looking for. good Chinese food standards 👌 ✅️ service was ready to get to work and polite.

We have been going to Kar Wah for many years. The food is pretty consistent and hot and fresh. We typically dine in and the service is fast. On our most recent visit we ordered the family dinner for 2 that includes several items to share. My favorite here is the almond chicken and my husband likes the Mongolian beef the best. On occasion my food has been a little salty but for the most part it's always good and we will continue to frequent this restaurant.

Food was AMAZING and I would absolutely recommend the fried chicken wings! The best I have ever had! In fact this is the more superior Chinese food place I've been able to find in Fresno and the service was amazing as well. Our waitress even bagged our leftovers for us! The amount of food you get for the price is an amazing deal!! I recommend this place 100% and will be returning!!!

Delicious Asian Food. We odered bean sprout, kung pao chicken, spicy mongolian beef, asparagus, brokoli, fuyunghai, rice, and pan fried noodle. The taste was delicious, even though some part of the spice was quite the same (teriyaki sauce maybe?) But this resto was recommended, especially the price was definitely affordable. Plenty tables and the service was fast. Love it!

One of my best kept little secrets. I love this place, yes you do hear them yelling in the kitchen. That's always a good sign especially when it's a little hole in the wall. The food is really good, portions are huge. Orange chicken has this thing about it that is just so so good. We had a ladies night at my church, it was Chinese food night. They do make food made to order. They will customize your dishes according to Your dietary needs, without problem, comment, or complaint. Always with a smile. I brought some of their chicken chow mein with extra veggies. Everyone loved it, I was getting text messages asking where I got the food from. Honestly I really didn't want to share, I was a little afraid that it's going to get too busy and I may not have the same food and service, but then decided, they deserve better, and I should just share. I normally buy take out (which is a separate entrance around the side towards the back of the restaurant), but I have dined in. Like I said, little gem.

Intensely red, booth filled Mom & Pop Chinese restaurant. Floral wallpaper combined with dark red leather and dark wood seating gives a cave-like impression. Doing the most with the space means narrow walkways and tight corners. Unexpectedly, the main entrance with the hostess counter and cashier is on the side of the building, not the door facing the North Marks Avenue parking lot. Menu has standard favorites as well as noodles cooked with various styles.

Wanted to try a New Chinese restaurant. Me & my 3 year old got the orange chicken, noodle pork fried rice plate (was big). It was delicious 10/10 we will definitely come back .🥰

11/30/25 Getting a soup lunch for this cooler weather. I called and ordered their chicken noodle soup with vegetables & tofu added & their Fried Won Tons appetizer. The worker was very kind and said it would be ready in 20 min. Arrived! Restaurant is safe & clean. Antique like. Calm & comfortable. You go to the back and they have a pick up area. Greeted by kind worker and order was ready. I paid for it with good day wishes! Appreciated! =D Love the way the order is set up. In s box & organized. Easier to prevent spill. Lunchtime! Chicken noodle vegetable tofu soup was GREAT! Perfect with the weather! Erin better that they included a good amount of chicken, tofu and veggies!! Just great! Perfect veggies, tofu & chicken!!! Fried Won Ton appetizer was DELICIOUS! Tasty & Flavorful!!! Mother said hers was REALLY GREAT!!! Fortune cookies for dessert! More GREATNESS! Lots of leftovers! Another lunch & more!!! Great service & GREAT lunch! Highly recommended!

Food was good. They were busy I ordered my food with no onions, and they prepared it correctly My order did take longer than they originally told me, but it was busy.

My daughter recommended this place. She gets take out on the regular because she loves accross the street. It was 8:30 I called a few places that said they closed at 9. By the time I called this place it was 8:45 and they close at 9. The lady who answered said come in cause I know u r hungry...so we did! We ordered two family dinners an order of sizzling rice soup and chicken wings. There was plenty of food for all of us. The chicken wings were huge and cooked very well! The waitress was great and made sure we had our drinks full and we had extra napkins and came back quite a few times... service was great. The portions were a good size. I wish the chile oil was hotter but we were all satisfied and we will be coming back again.

This restaurant is very nostalgic for me, I love that they have not changed any bit of the interior and it is just like walking into my childhood. I grew up in the bullard high area and my parents always ordered takeout from here every Friday as a child and into my teens until they moved to Sunnyside Estates 10 years ago. Luckily, I do work on this side of town and I will come here once in a while for some delicious Chinese food. Everything that I've had here is so flavorful and fresh. I love the Chinese chicken salad, the egg rolls, chow mein, dishes, and the number one star of the show.: cashew chicken, it is the best chicken dish in my opinion here. I don't frequent this place but once in a while when I want something flavorful and delicious I will come here and it's definitely a treat. The food quality has not changed a bit it the last 30 years!

I am from Fresno and my fam used to eat Kar Wah every friday. Ive moved away since but every time i come home to visit i go to Kar Wah. I love thier Chinese chicken salad, broccoli beef, and the pan fryed noodles. The serice is different but still good. I like the old chinese ladies. The ambiance has not changed, they have the same wallpaper since the eaely 90's.

We Love Amy......She is so helpful she is a big reason why we come to Kar Wah. She gets 7 stars. We have visited many other Chinese restaurants. They do compare to Kar Wah. Love Kar Wah!!!

Picked up some Mongolian beef and a combination plate. This place must have gone through new management. The food is not the same. No flavor and much too much soy sauce in their fried rice. Will have to find another place for Chinese food!

Please give this place a chance. It does not disappoint. The food is absolutely amazing. The staff is friendly. Very authentic Chinese food. They pack your left overs for you. How sweet!

Since Shanghai closed we don't have a go to spot for delicious Chinese food. We took a chance and stopped here and I believe we have found our replacement. Food is cooked fast, delicious and still hot. Kids loved it, so did the wife(boss). Sorry that Shanghai closed but now we got our spot!

Food is very flavorful, good portions and customer service is excellent. I want to go there now but I'm sure they are closed on Mondays

I love everything about the people here. Been going to them since 2013, and the food has always been great. Lunch special is the best and no one can beat them. This place will always be my favorite once a month Chinese place and nothing can beat them.

Yum! Delicious food that I could hear being cooked in the back. I was in the area visiting from out of town and I googled for a place to have lunch with my husband. A few options nearby like Sizzler LOL a Texas Road House, Outback Steak House, and even a Chuck E. Cheese amongst others. I'll always choose and small restaurant like this over anything else and give it a try at least once. The restaurant is small and the decor is dated, very dated, but that's no problem for me. No other customers dining as we dined, but multiple customers picking up orders to go so my husband and I enjoyed a quiet and delicious lunch which is something we both enjoy. Peace, quiet, and food Mongolian Beef is a must-try! The beef melts in the mouth, so soft and tender, but best of all full of flavor. We also enjoyed, Pot Stickes, Rangoons, Sizzling Rice Soup, Veggie Chow Mein. Everything was made to order and came out piping hot from the kitchen. The nice lady who I assume was the owner was very sweet and attentive to us. One Con: The restroom was out of service, and the area may be a bit sketchy for some, but other than that, try this place. I think many will like it

Special chow mein went up it's $17. 00 and some change. They now make the chow mein with extra small shrimp. Over priced, with over cooked shrimp.

Very good food. Tasty and always hot. Chinese chicken salad was good. Just. Not too much dressing. Maybe order the dressing on the side. Both the Kung Pap Chicken and Ginger Beef were awesome. Service is pleasant and attentive.

First time here but I've seen it for years as my parents live nearby. Very good and fresh, different style of Chinese food from my usual place, but good. I had the beef broccoli over noodles good and fresh but maybe needed a bit more seasoning ( I added a couple packets of soy sauce) my wife enjoyed her vegetarian dish which was tofu curry with vegetables over noodles, she loved it! Also had Mongolian beef over noodles and pot stickers, all were delicious!

The food is amazing. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Fresno. I've been coming here for over 7 years and I've never been disappointed. Price is cheap for the amount of food you get. Ordered four items a la carte for $50. I have a family of three and we can eat and always have leftovers.

Everything tasted reheated. Fried in old oil. On a positive note, the broccoli was fresh.

Never, EVER again. The fried shrimp was ancient. Looking up the place is filthy too. I'm good, lesson learned. If your order takes less than 3 minutes, it's not fresh food.

I had been going to a few Chinese restaurants trying ti find one as my go to and well this is the one! This place has hit the spot each and every time my family orders from here. We order a good variety of food such as egg foo young, pan fried noodles, teriyaki chicken, beef and broccoli, vegi egg rolls, won tons, and chow mein and all are fantastic! It can get a little spendy but it is totally worth it I highly recommend the pan friend noodles with teriyaki chicken absolutely love it. Also recommend the vegi spring rolls they are perfect for my taste. Definitely try this place out if your looking for a good Chinese restaurant.

First time at this restaurant and I was impressed. So was my family. We ordered both chicken and veggie chow mein. The noodles were crispy and not at all greasy. The vegetables were fresh and lightly sautéed, just like they should be. The sauce was not overpowering. The price was reasonable for good quality food. I definitely plan to visit again when im in the mood for Chinese take out. Give it a whirl.

I was hesitant to try this place because of the location, and I'll be honest that's the only reason this isn't a 5 star review. The service here is great, servers are very friendly and recommend their favorite items. We ordered potstickers and beef broccoli plates and the potstickers are easily the best I've ever had. they got eaten before I could take a picture. Beef and broccoli was really good too! I think the next time I'll try this place will be in the daytime though or takeout after dark, at night the area gets very sketchy with some shady "deals" going on around the area of the restaurant. But don't let it deter you! That's definitely not the restaurants fault, just an FYI for you readers.

We love coming to kar wah. Everything I've tried so far I've liked. The service is hit or miss as far as the wait time but other than that the people are very nice. We love the Kung pao chicken, orange chicken and the spicy Szechwan beef!

Delicious curry noodles, highly recommend! We did get burnt orange chicken once. The house special chicken was weak. I recommend a dinner combo with saucy chicken. I really like their style of noodles, over all. Rice is yummy.

The beef chow mein was more like beef and broccoli considering how the whole dish was drowned with a salty sauce that doused the weirdest noodles I've ever had--they were not your typical chow mein noodles, too skinny, overcooked yet some parts were crunchy like they must've gotten stuck to the bottom of the pan and even if I did enjoy the noodles they were shadowed by the overabundance of vegetables. My boyfriend and I also had the chicken fried rice which was pretty tasty but not good enough for us to even consider going back.

Food taste authentic. Normally can't handle Chinese food but, no problems here for me! A lot of food for a good price

This place never disappoint! From their spicy Mongolian beef to this long green beans and beef stir fry and their hot & sour soup, their food always comes out good, packed with flavor and peeping hot and fresh! Services is always great and fast as well, I have yet to dine in as most time I just always order to go for lunch since work is near by.

Don't let looks deceive you. I was not going to go there but the hubby convinced me to try the place. You won't be disappointed. I promise. Two entrance Parking is good Restaurant is a little out to date but hey it's the theme (Probably) Customer service was good for one person running the front and serving Didn't check out the restroom.

I came here today for takeout. I came during the day. At night, it is kinda sketchy. The inside is a little run down, but it is not a dealbreaker. I have heard good things about this place from a number of people. I walked in to place my order, they were not busy. The staff was very nice and helpful. I placed my order and waited. The wait was not long. I brought the food home and it was absolutely wonderful. I had a combination plate and some potstickers. I am all in on this place. I will be back.

I highly suggest to anyone interested in something new that the Chinese style chow mein here is TOP TIER.

The food is so good here! We got the Mapo tofu and Mongolian beef. Service was great and I liked the atmosphere.

we used to go to Shanghai in Fresno all the time for Chinese! we loved that place but unfortunately they recently closed. We have been searching for somewhere new to eat so we decided to try Kar Wah. It was a pretty great experience, everyone was nice and food was really good! The chinese chicken salad was great and so were the pan fried noodles! The restaurant was also clean and tidy.

I don't know how they are almost rated a four star but it should be like a two star. Orange chicken was garbage and fatty, I really didn't chew on any actual meat. Their fried rice is probably one of the worst I've ever had. And their Chinese style chow mein also not like any other Chinese style, chow mein, and not good at all. $35 for two combo plates. Smh.

Kar Wah has been part of our neighborhood for at least 40 years. The food is excellent - served hot and delicious. The service is attentive without being intrusive. It isn't stylish but it's kept very clean. This is the only Chinese restaurant we patronize. We highly recommend it!

I ate here today for the first time and ordered the cashew chicken, no rice and never noodles... it was delicious. What distinguished it for me was the various levels of cooking achieved on the ingredients in the wok. Done properly, there should be some caramelization on both the vegetables and the meat a variety depending on each element. And here there was. You may not have noticed that really adds another level to the way everything comes together. I rarely get this fundamental cooking standard done properly in many places. The cashew chicken unfortunately came without cashews so I took it back out and they put them on as they should've. No big deal since I was eating in the car. Both on the phone and in the restaurant the gentleman who took my order was very friendly. I'm not sure if he was the guy mentioned in the other reviews but all I could think is, never try to order or get things done at their busiest hour when people are most stressed. The neighborhood is pretty low income and probably not the safest so even in the car I kept an eye out... Thanks for the tip Lila! By the way I think the total meal was $10.50. Worth every penny and a good portion (to leave absolutely nothing left in the container after eating in the car). Can't wait to try the asparagus or Szechuan beef with that magic wok char on it... I resent chopsticks and perfect spoons. Let nothing hinder....:) -G

This is probably one of the good gems in Fresno food was good I'm not of fan of the chow mein the chop suey way it was either pan noodle or chop Suey so that made this post a 3.5 stars. However sweet sour was good meat tasted fresh, orange chicken was good as well. We also ordered egg rolls I have them a 5 my daughter gave them a zero.. over all I think this place has fast, neat, clean service food is fresh, hot n good. Kids are picky eaters they might only like the meat like mine did but as a complete score they coooool.

Absolutely amazing and tasty food. My son ordered the orange chicken combo. I ordered the rib combo with the shrimp appetizer. Huge portions! Fast service. Super friendly. Highly recommend.
