The 6 Best Uyghur Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"Karamay Uyghur is hidden among shiny offices and grab-and-go lunch spots in the City. Its original branch in Leicester claims to be the first Uyghur restaurant in the UK. Whether or not that’s true, we can’t verify, but its food certainly stands up in the fiery, flavour rankings. Given its location, the space feels a little slick—its big windows look out on to more ancient bodies of the City as suits search for sustenance, and the unapologetically green chilli-filled Chinese murger comes on a chopping board. But the handmade noodles have just the right amount of bounce and given the big round tables and light-filled room, we can think of few better places for a big Friday lunch around Fenchurch Street." - jake missing, rianne shlebak

The 10 Best Restaurants In The City - London - The Infatuation

"Among the gothic architecture and shiny new builds of the City, you’ll find Karamay. The Uyghur restaurant mixes the fiery flavours of the north western Chinese cuisine with a slick, big-windowed space that looks out on the busy worker bees wandering the streets below. If you’re coming for a quick lunch, then a plate of hand-pulled stir-fried noodles that sing with spice will do nicely. Otherwise, if there are a few of you sharing, a steaming big plate chicken, some sweet and savoury Uyghur pilaf rice, and a few green chilli-filled Chinese murgers are essential." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak

I was very disappointed by the flavours ins Karamay. I was really looking forward to a crispy flavourful somsa but I got a pastry that was flaky, not crispy at all and quite bland. The crispiness of the somsa's is what made me love them and these ones were not good. Not sure what failed. Maybe the lack of a proper somsa oven? The Langham noodles were also disappointing. They were too soft. Overcooked. They were lacking that bite and texture so characteristic of them.

Super tasty! 😋 The owner from Xinjiang and the Canadian waitress were both really nice and friendly. Great place to have lunch with friends — only 2 minutes from the tube. A bit pricey, but the food is worth it — big portions and full of flavour. 👍🏻 Highly recommend the baked buns (eat them hot!) and the lamb skewers with rice. Best Xinjiang food in London! ❤️

The food was delicious and very filling, the flavours were unique and I'm so gratefull to be able to try uyghur food. Our table had lots of requests and we came during a really busy time, we were served with kindness each time even though we had a lot of requests. I would definetly come again the experience was wonderful!

The food here is always great. I come pretty often, and I always have to get the lamb rice! It’s my favourite thing on the menu. Everything tastes fresh and well seasoned. We went on a Tuesday night and it was still pretty busy, but the service was really good and the staff were friendly and attentive. It’s a comfortable place with consistently good food. Definitely recommend.

I visited this restaurant on a Friday night with friends, and even though we arrived quite late, the staff welcomed us warmly with genuine smiles. We ordered the beef and chicken lagman along with Manti, all of which were flavorful and beautifully presented. To our pleasant surprise, we were offered complimentary drinks, which added a lovely touch to the evening. The interior design truly stands out, the rug on the clay wall immediately caught our attention, evoking a strong sense of cultural connection. Downstairs, there’s a spacious “tapchan” area that can comfortably accommodate over ten people, perfect for larger gatherings. The entire atmosphere felt cozy and inviting, almost like being back home. It’s also great to note that the food is halal, making it an excellent choice for those seeking authentic halal cuisine. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this restaurant to others. And we will be back soon

Food: The food was pretty good overall and was something that was enjoyable. We got two dishes between the two of us and the spicy lamb was tasty. The chicken and noodle dish was also decent as well but not mind blowing. Was a little bit disappointed in the filling of the dumplings as the skin was done well but the met inside was a bit tough but maybe it was a culture thing I did not expect. Service: It was a quiet service but it was solid if unspectacular, nothing that made it stand out, but nothing terrible either. Atmosphere: it was extremely hard to judge, especially as there were only three tables in the restaurant with people during a muted spell but it was still comfortable to be in. It's a decent meal and experience with uyghur food which I am looking forward to trying again.

Staff were lovely, place is nice, food is Halal and good but nothing special. It was my first time having Uyghur food so I expected more out of what I had. Some of the dishes do have ready made noodles so you may want to ask. Other than that, it’s definitely a good try ☺️
