Kari Apla is one of those rare restaurants that immediately makes you feel at home the moment you step inside. It’s a small, warm space in Khar with a simple, earthy charm — the kind of place where you can actually hear conversations, enjoy the aroma from the open kitchen, and feel connected to the food being prepared.
The menu is a beautiful mix of coastal, Kerala, and Maharashtrian flavours, but presented in a very thoughtful and modern way. Every dish has a story, and you can sense the amount of care the chefs put into balancing comfort with creativity. The curries are rich without being heavy, the spices are well-rounded, and the seafood is exceptionally fresh. Even the vegetarian dishes stand out with bold, homely flavours.
Their weekend brunch is especially worth trying — soft appams, dosas, light stews, filter coffee — everything tastes like a regional home kitchen brought into a modern dining space. Portions are satisfying and plating is elegant without being overdone.
Service is polite, patient, and genuinely interested in helping you choose. Because the space is compact, the whole experience feels personal and relaxed rather than rushed or commercial.
Prices are on the higher side, but completely justified considering the quality, originality, and the chef-driven approach. It’s not a “quick meal” type of place — it’s somewhere you go to slow down and enjoy food with intention.
Overall: Kari Apla is a wonderful blend of nostalgia, regional flavours, and modern presentation. If you enjoy coastal Indian cuisine or simply love trying thoughtfully crafted food, this is a spot you shouldn’t miss.
