Kareem’s, located near Jama Masjid, is one of Delhi’s most iconic restaurants with a long-standing reputation. However, if you’re not familiar with Old Delhi, it can be a bit difficult to locate, as it’s tucked away inside a narrow and crowded alleyway filled with shops and street vendors. The area is lively but hectic, so be prepared for a bit of a walk through the lanes.
Once seated, you’re greeted with a plate of sliced onions, a lemon wedge, and mint chutney, which is a nice traditional touch before your meal.
Items I tried:
Tandoori Roti
Mutton Korma
Mutton Seekh Kebab
Chicken Seekh Kebab
The dishes were decent overall, though I felt the Mutton Korma had a dominating rose-water flavor that didn’t quite suit my taste. The kebabs were tender but didn’t live up to the high expectations I had after watching several online reviews.
Also, the prices are slightly on the higher side, especially considering the portion sizes and the overall dining setup.
In summary, an average food experience for me — perhaps my expectations were too high — but still worth visiting once for the legacy and atmosphere that makes Kareem’s such a well-known name in Delhi’s food scene.
