Karina’s Is Bringing Mexican Seafood to La Jolla - Eater San Diego

"Karina’s Cantina is set to replace the former Saffron Thai location in La Jolla. It will be a Mexican restaurant and bar similar to Karina’s Ceviches & More, offering a seafood-based menu with tacos, burritos, ceviche, and a full cocktail bar. The restaurant includes a large patio and covers 2,000 square feet. It is expected to open by the end of July." - Candice Woo

Great Mexican Seafood in La Jolla!!! My husband and I found Karina's Cantina on short notice and it did not disappoint! It was the best seafood mexican we've had in a very very long time. It was so good we came back a second time within a week and brought our Canadian friends here too :) For our first visit, my husband and I ordered the campechana: mix of shrimp, octopus and scallops, ahi poke tostados, surf and turf quesadilla, and baja style fish tacos. As per service, you order at the counter and they assign you a number. Your food gets delivered to your table and there's a couple check ins. Otherwise, you'll have to go inside to address your needs/concerns. This was no problem to us because we had everything we needed prior to indulging. There is a self-serve water station for your convenience. The food came out incredibly quick and fresh. We loved that the variety of the mex-seafood options were different and abundant than what we have in the mid-west!

The mango jalapeño sashimi was really well done. The horchata was also really refreshing. The guava mojito was alright. It wasn’t the best but at the same time it is not bad. Pretty decent for a hot day IMO. We also ordered chicken quesadillas but were served cheese quesadillas instead. The cheese quesadillas were good. And we were too tired (after a hike) to quibble with the staff. All in all, nice place too cool off after a hot day

Very friendly staff and amazing food! Very fresh taste and flavorful, a real Mexican experience in the heart of La Jolla with a large and well decorated outdoor space. Makes tou feel comfortable and safe. It’s an huge upgrade for whom already enjoy the Jose’s La Jolla restaurant style. You guys should give it a try! Hugs

Pretty cool spot that lends itself to hanging out. Atmosphere is great! Nice outdoor patio, lots of seating space. Drinks were pretty good too. My whole group got the $10 margaritas (menu was already obsolete). They also did have a full bar and some singsture cocktails. Food was where a point gets taken off. It was decent, but had some flaws. Carne asada fries had a good piece of meat, but the fries were a bit undercooked and the cheese was not melted. The guac was good. The chips and salsa was an okay sized portion, but the salsa tasted mostly of tomato - not much in spice or other flavor. Overall, this was an awesome place to hang out and get a drink. But the food was very bar / pub quality.

Very good Margarita, Sea food is on point . the canpechana is 🔥 Marlin tacos Bomb as well. My favorite is the shrimp Burrito in Katrina's sauce to Bad this location would not make it for me. Here's a picture of the shrimp burrito they made for me on my last trip.

Honestly, some of the best food I have ever had. This restaurant was recommended to my wife and I by the owners of La Jolla Kayak.
