My group of close friends, my family, and I have succumbed to participating in the latest sports craze aka Pickleball. Since many of us are past the half century mark, this sport is our way to stay healthy and to get together, which can be difficult with our busy lives. After a few hours of burning calories, we usually decide to chow down at a local restaurant to gain back the lost calories and to catch up. After our Sunday Pickleball adventure, we chose to eat dinner at Karl Strauss Brewing Company 4S Ranch and we had a fun time enjoying each other's company.
Karl Strauss has several locations throughout San Diego with this location being one that I had my eye on for sometime, but never tried until we dined here Sunday evening. The restaurant is located within an outdoor shopping center called the 4S Commons Town Center, which houses Ralph's, World Market, Ulta, Miguel's, and Wendy's. There is plenty of parking available. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the following: how spacious it is; the bar with its large selection of taps; the brick facade on the wall with the gigantic phrase "Make Beer, Not War"; the colorful light fixtures, and the distressed wood paneling. There is plenty of seating with tables, booths, bar, and outdoor. The young blonde lady, who was our waitress, provided attentive, friendly, and quality customer service.
As I stated above, this was my first time visiting Karl Strauss and I was looking forward to grubbing here because I had heard positive things about the restaurant. I don't drink alcohol or beer, so I wanted to know how their food stacked up to other breweries I've eaten at. The menu is pretty straight forward and has a variety of choices for any type of palate. I was un decided between two choices, but I decided to try their Nashville Shrimp sandwich, which comes with crispy shrimp, hot honey, pickled onion slaw, tomato, arugula, and chipotle remoulade on a toasted sesame baguette with fries. This is a hefty sandwich and you're going to need napkins. I really enjoyed the majority of the components of the sandwich and it was really tasty. The shrimp was hearty, it was finger licking delicious, and it wasn't spicy. I really enjoyed the seasoned just right and thick fries. My only qualm was the sesame baguette. It was not soft and a little tough to chew. I recommend that a softer bread is used because that sandwich was the bomb diggity except for the bread. We finished our dinner by sharing two orders of Cali Mud Slides using 8 spoons. It satisfied our sweet cravings.
It truly was a blessing to spend quality time with my close friends and my better half playing Pickleball and spending time at Karl Strauss. I definitely want to visit again to try their Beer Sausages main dish, which was the other choice I had in mind.
