Wowza! What an unexpected surprise to walk into the Japanese garden style atmosphere with a brewery anchored in this gorgeous spot. It’s a brewery so you can expect great beer but the other star is their food. Poke nachos delicious. Korean bowl with Salmon also delicious. Ditto for the Truck stop burger. Completely loved the Mahi blackened fish tacos! Service was excellent!

Wow! What a hidden gem this location is. I loved the Zen Garden and the relaxing vibe here. Take a few photos if you can! As usual, the food was amazing. This time, I got the Birria Beef Dip, the homemade sauce made it extra delicious! 🙂

We got fries, Salman Korean BBQ rice bowl and mixed vegetables salad. Not bad for the food. The garden and pond are pretty.

Hadn’t been back in like 20 years. Shared a great bowl! I like going to the other KS locations better, especially when they brew on site so you can get something unique. This one is the prettiest though. Doing construction right now though.

I’ve been to Karl Strauss many times. Food is always good and their beer is even better! Servers are always really cool too. Great place to go for work lunches and on the weekend and evening still a great place for going and bringing kids along as well. I should have many more pictures of their awesome food, I recommend the Salmon Cesar. The Drunken Shrimp is great as well, reminds me of when they used to serve Shrimp and Grits way back when!

We hosted a co-ed wedding shower there. The venue was beautiful, the food delicious, and the staff so accommodating. I couldn't have been more pleased. Danielle was great with all the upfront planning and questions. Rachel and her staff were so accommodating the day of the event. We had about 50 people in the back Karl's room and adjoining areas. It was perfect. Thanks again all who helped that day. It was a very special day for us.

Yelp
Lunch anyone?! The have a great special for 20$ (2024) you get a burger and a beer! And it's a GOOD BURGER! Love their ahi nachos, and Mac and cheese on tap, my favorite brew by far is their Octoberfest, but as that's seasonal I'll go with just about any IPA. One of the coolest parts of this place is their gorgeous gardens. They have a huge koi pond and a deck and it's just a peaceful fun place to grab a beer. Service at this location is alway on point, and everyone is chill. It's right in the middle of Sorrento, so be prepared to see your coworkers!

Yelp
We were there for a basketball tourney and went to lunch on Sat Feb15 and staff and food/drinks were great. We decided to go back the following day and made dinner reservations for 8pm. We came across the worst & ruddiest manager I have ever met in all my dining experience. I will never go back to this restaurant because of him..... His name is Kobe and it started with his huffing and puffing everytime we asked for utensils which we never got. Then he rushed us all to order as kitchen was closing at 9pm which was not mentioned when we were ordering food with large party. We were a party of 45+ people and a two of our 15 year old girls arrived at 8:50 which was before cut off time to put order in and we had to almost beg for him to put order in, which he finally did with an attitude. I asked Kobe if he can bring out any kind of desert with a candle on it as it was one of our girls 15th birthday and he said kitchen is closed. I asked kindly to bring out anything that was available and he refused by saying kitchen is closed. I finally asked if he can just please bring a single candle out and we were going to manage something ourselves with the food that was in front of us and his exact words were "I don't want to" At this point, we were all furious with him but just wanted to finish and leave as our experience was horrific due to "Kobe" Finally, Kobe topped it off by coming up to us and said "you guys need to rap it up" " I'm kicking you guys out now" At first, I thought I didn't hear him correctly so I said excuse me what did you just say? He repeated himself again and said "Im kicking you guys out now. It's time to go" When one of our guests said I will leave when I am done with my plate, he said you need to leave now and wanted to start a fight. I found out later that he had told another guest to leave now......" I'm kicking you out now" At the end, he had to be held back from another staff member and one of our guests as he was trying to rush at our table as if he was ready to fight It's a shame that our group that spent over $3000 in the two days at this resturant had to deal with this Kobe (manager). He clearly doesn't belong in the service industry and I'm glad his staff pushed him into the kitchen to calm him down. We are strongly considering taking it legal as he was a direct threat to me and my guests. Be careful if you ever want to dine there

Yelp
I've been to a few of the locations and this place is big with nice outdoor area. Being holidays there was a big party inside and many of them had their dogs which made for a loud, barking experience, but is what it is. Staff were pretty tough to get a hold of and very short in communication so could be better. I again had the pork chops which I think are probably the best item on the entree menu. My friend said the fish tacos were good. A friend had the steak which he disliked and said his medium rare was like shoe leather so maybe steer clear of the steak. Beers are good.

Yelp
Douglas was out bartender and he was awesome. Very attentive gave us recommendations for beers. They have a huge establishment great for big groups. Their outside pond is beautiful. They do have heaters if you opt to sit outside. Their menu has a great variety of options. They have a huge parking lot but we opted to uber.

Yelp
Rocking the two new seasonal pairing menu items tonight! The Pizza Rolls appetizer with Red Trolley and the Birria Beef Dip sandwich with the Karlito's Mexican Lager! Well done to the kitchen staff. Great choices and flavors on everything. They Chilli Crisp on the Pizza rolls would also have gone great on the Birria too !!!

Yelp
Food- omg where has this been all my life? Service- nice and friendly but not around much Ambiance- clean and the outside patio is beautiful at night First time trying this place out and let me say, their duck fat pretzel bites were highlight of the show. Everything we got was incredible but those were wild. I got the pork strudel sliders and loved it. The pickled red onions cut through the richness and overall was fantastic. My friend got their ginger salmon and that was so flavorful as well.

Yelp
My friends and I were on the hunt for a restaurant with a nice garden area, and a quick Yelp search led us to this spot. We're not big on beer, but we decided to give it a shot anyway. Since it was a Friday night, we made a reservation just in case. Finding the place was a bit tricky due to some construction in the area, but once we got there, everything went smoothly. There was plenty of parking, which was a great start. As soon as we entered, we felt like we'd been transported to another world. The lush greenery and cheerful atmosphere were incredible, and there was plenty of seating, which added to the charm. With our reservation, we were seated right away on the outdoor patio with a lovely view of the pond. The setting was absolutely beautiful! The menu was QR code-based, making it easy to order right from our phones. I got the mac and cheese, while my friends tried the truffle fries and the hummus platter. The dishes came out quickly, and we were impressed with the food. The hummus was fresh, and the veggies were a nice addition, though the fried pita chips felt a bit unhealthy. The truffle fries were perfect, and the mac and cheese was also tasty. Overall, we loved the ambiance, and the server who brought our food was super sweet. This place definitely has a vibe, and I highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
- Asada Fries | Carne asada meat, jalapeño beer cheese, gorgonzola, avocado-chimichurri, pickled onion, and cilantro. The melding of flavors did well for this dish. - Mac on Tap (The Norm) | Elbow noodles, cheese sauce, and topped with parmesan breadcrumbs. This is rich, so share it. - Crispy Brussel Sprouts | Reviewed this before and came back for more. Feta and brussels sprouts just go together! - Beer Flight | Mosaic IPA, Aurora Hoppyalis IPA, Mango T., and The GodFather. Favorite continues to be their Aurora Hoppyalis IPA for its strong hoppy flavor and tropical under notes.

Yelp
The food was super tasty here! All the ingredients were fresh and the flavors were unique and complimentary. Service was really good! My meal came out perfectly as did my dads, my moms never arrived but when we asked about it there had been a mix up, they got us her food and took off her meals expense from the final check. I really liked how they handled this, it showed just how good the service here was! The Ambiance was SO COOL they had a koi fish pond, lots of pretty lights and good vibes, I highly reccomend checking out if you are in the area

Yelp
Pretty spot to come for a lunch date. Very beautiful The food menu is just basic to me and I wasn't super flavorful. Great beer selection and I really enjoyed the open seating and fish. The service was great and on top of tables and turning over quickly without rushing Will be checking it out again

Yelp
if it were just for the food, i would give karl strauss 3 stars. i am bumping it up to 4 stars for the location and the service. i ordered the salmon caesar and it was just fine. for the price ($22), it should be more than just the salmon carrying the dish. the blackened salmon was indeed good and cooked well (flaky, not too dry, well marinated), but the salad had nothing else going for it. i also tried the fish and chips which was decent but nothing to write home about. the location is currently going through construction so parking is a bit difficult, but when there is no construction it actually has very nice vibes and is a great midday lunch spot for anyone who works nearby. the service was outstanding - our server was very on top of it and i felt very taken care of.

Yelp
This review is for takeout orders although we have been to their Sunday brunch, which was fabulous although that must've been five years ago. They do a good job of packaging to-go orders and everything we have ordered has been delicious. There are not a lot of "home cooking" type restaurants along Mira Mesa Blvd, but Karl's is our go-to when I don't have time to cook after work. Try their brined pork chop with mashed potatoes. We always order their Mac&Cheese and they also sell mini portions if you feel guilty eating it all alone.

Yelp
Came here for Father's Day for dinner and we were seated right away by the huge koi pond. First off, this place is really nice, but still laid back, and family friendly. The service was great as well -- everyone was accommodating and kind. What we got: - Beer pretzels: warm and fluffy on the inside; the spicy honey mustard and jalapeño cheese that they came with were the perfect accompaniment! - Duck fat pretzels: these were good as well, warm and perfectly baked - Crispy Brussel sprouts: charred and crispy; the balsamic reduction was really good and balanced everything really well - Poke nachos: I have been on a poke kick lately and these were so good! - Truffle fries: crispy, flavorful, delicious! - Mac and cheese (piggy bank): cheesy, perfect amount of meat, really yummy! - Beer sausage: I did not try this, but according to my brother-in-law, they were good! All in all, we all enjoyed our time here and I would definitely return!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! I've been coming here ever since I've started working in the area due to work happy hours and friend meet-ups. It's one of those places that you should take your family/friends when they are visiting you in San Diego. The ambiance is lovely and the vast seating area makes it a great place to meet with people and the koi pond makes makes all my stress melt away. The food --- i love love love love the mac and cheese and the fries. The burgers are good too, and the ahi poke nachos are too die for. I've tried almost the whole menu and nothing disappoints. The menu is an all-arounder, good for a variety of taste buds. I went lately after a few months of not going and it looks like the portion sizes have decreased a bit, and of course, the prices have gone up due to inflation. Nonetheless, the food is well worth the price. Service is always quick and easy -- even during happy hour. The wait may be a bit sometimes, but you could always grab a drink! There is a lot of parking and its all free, although it is sectioned a bit weird now -- i'd advise driving slow in the parking lot!

Yelp
Tried this place for my son's birthday and loved the food here. We now come often to grab their Mac n cheese. Amazing food and drinks. The Mac N cheese is so delicious a must try.

Yelp
Went there with a group of 12 for a company lunch. We made a reservation so we were able to be seated right away. To our surprise, it was not busy for a weekday lunch. The waitress and waiter were both very attentive until we ordered. They took our drink drinks and appetizer orders which came out fairly quickly however after that we had to flag them down for extra silverware plates, etc.... We got our food, which was very very expensive ... however being that it's one of the only sitdown restaurants in the area of a bunch of corporate offices, they will jack up their prices because they know people will pay!!! My salad was average nothing to write about. The mac & cheese was very watery. Took it home and tried to spruce it up to make it better, but didn't work. Don't think I'd ever go back if I had to pay for my meal....

Yelp
This brewery was solid, we ordered the poke nachos and the mixed greens salad. Not somewhere that I would drive out of the way for, but an okay option for the area

Yelp
Karl with a K Tucked deep inside a tech park in the Sorento Valley area in San Diego is this beautiful place. It looks like it was built decades ago atop a wooded pond you will find this stylish and calm respite from all of the corporate entities that surround the place. The menu is rather small as they really specialize in all things beer but there is just enough on it to find something for most, as although small, the menu is well thought out. Entrees that we had included the Salmon with quinoa, a turkey burger and I had the fish and chips. My friends liked their items a lot and I have had better fish and chips at plenty of other places. About those fish and chips, they were cooked well, the fries were crisp and satisfying, cole slaw was Ice cold and had a nice flavor, but the pre-fab fish fell flat as it was right out of the freezer and not beer battered at least not battered in house. Cute little fish triangles seemed better suited for fast food, but at least they were cooked well enough. Service was just fine and our dockside table outside was nicely heated on a cool night. Beers and Beeramisu might be tried if we make it back someday as there is no reason to not to return if in the area.

Yelp
We came here for a birthday party. The entrance is beautiful! Good first couple date night spot. Given the size of our group (10+ people) the servers were very helpful. We got beer, a cider (chai me a river), and beer pretzels. The chai me a river was so delicious and perfect for a fall themed drink. The beer pretzels were good and I liked the spicy mustard sauce.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've come here for drinks but decided to grab dinner here. The drinks were the same as I remembered - pretty good! Treehugger Mac & cheese - saw that their Mac and cheese had won awards so decided to try it. It was pretty disappointing as the sauce was extremely runny and it lacked flavor. I did like how they had vegetables though. Food truck burger - definitely go for the burger. It was much better! The fries were also double fried so it made it extra crispy!

Yelp
The kids in I took an evening flight in from Colorado so arrived in San Diego pretty hangry! This location is a stone's throw away from the hotel we were staying at so it was super easy to park the car and walk over before they closed for the night. It's pretty casual and family friendly with pond/fish right outside the restaurant. I really enjoyed the IPA I had and it paired really nicely with the cheeseburger and fries I ordered. My husband had the fish & chips which I tried and I really liked those as well. Everything hit the spot! If you are in the area or see a location around the area, def check it out. The beer and good are really good. Service was excellent too - super attentive and helpful!

Yelp
I love the consistency of the service and food here. Carla is always so sweet and makes sure that I feel welcome.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in San Diego. I love to sit outside. Super peaceful with koi fishes in their pond. They are also super dog friendly. There are also lots of variety of beer. I love their Italian Pilsner. The food there is also delicious. I can eat their chili lime sweet potato fries everyday. They also have the best buffalo boneless wings. Highly recommend checking this place out and their service is great.

Yelp
This place is not only delicious, but so beautiful!! The location looks like a beautiful Japanese garden with a large pond. They have a large parking lot and from the outside you can't tell how beautiful this place is until you walk all the way in. They have indoor and outdoor sitting available. Service was great, our food was served not so long after we placed our order. My husband and I both ordered their Ribeye Steak. The steak was so tender and juicy. Everything tasted perfect. My husband ordered their Hefeweizen and he really enjoyed that as well. We loved this restaurant so much we have been there a couple of times already and we will be there again soon!

Yelp
My friend recommended this restaurant as we were around the area, and she was craving fish and chips. She mentioned there was a nice scenery to enjoy our food. It's located in the business, industrial district, a little north of McDonalds and Planet Fitness on Scranton Rd in Sorrento Valley. There's a huge parking lot with ample parking. My friend got her Fish and Chips with garlic fries, and we shared the Ahi Poke Nachos. The poke nachos were alright. The chips were very light and crispy with a delicious sauce. The portion amount of poke on this dish was kind of lacking for the price. The poke wasn't bad though! My friend's fish and chips were really lacking in flavor. There were two batter fried fishes which I thought were quite oily and small. The garlic fries were delicious but again, small portions. The garden view was nice though! Very zen feeling and a great location for lunch. I had a drink prior to arriving to the restaurant/bar. Their list of beers/cider all sounds very good. I hope to be back to grab some drinks with a nice, relaxing atmosphere. Aside from the beautiful garden, the food here could be better. I definitely do see this place more as a bar and hang out with friends and family. I most likely will be back for only their beer/cider selections in the future.

Yelp
I am not one to take the time to write a negative review and avoid confrontation, but this was such a poor dining experience that it needs to be communicated to whoever did the hiring at this establishment. Our party returned a 2nd day in a row because we enjoyed the food and restaurant so much, but this time around we were greeted by surprise with such rude conduct. We are all very respectful families visiting every year for a sports tournament, just looking for a place to gather to enjoy good food and each other's company. A few things happened prior to this as well with the same manager, Kobe, but what I experienced was that I was sitting waiting for our husbands to finish enjoying their meal that arrived later in the night. The manager Kobe came out and told me, "I'm going to have to kick you guys out now. We are closing." I was completely shocked by his words, since all our young kids and adults in our very large party were all conducting themselves very congenially and politely the entire night despite the fact that he wasn't. I asked Kobe to repeat himself thinking maybe I heard wrong, but he repeated the same rude words. I felt that his rudeness was completely uncalled for. I then was very surprised to learn that he was a restaurant manager and in that brief interaction, it crossed my mind how he earned a managerial title with such poor people skills and complete lack of understanding of customer service. There was no reason to be rude to any of us. I was glad the husbands stood up for our group. No one deserves to be treated so poorly, especially when they are being cooperative and paying customers the entire time. We were a returning party of 45 + people, 2 days in a row and my husband even took my son and his friend that day earlier for lunch. The boys both raved about how it was the best burger they ever had and my son even had a 2nd burger for dinner that same day. Sadly, I will have to tell my son and his friend that we won't be able to return to this establishment due to such poor customer service.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday around 2 PM for his birthday. Our friends came at a later time and in total had a party of 16. We didn't have a reservation and they were able to accommodate us. Josh, our waiter, was so AMAZING! Seriously one of the best waiters we've ever had. We were able to switch to a bigger table and the service was so organized and fast. The food was tasty and the outside venue was serene. Our party only had good things to say.

Yelp
AMBIANCE Sorrento Mesa's Karl Strauss BrewPub is a brewery and restaurant serving an ethnically diverse range of award winning food and drink in an open and zen atmosphere. SERVICE Quick, knowledgeable, and friendly FOOD CARNE ASADA FRIES: everything about this was delicious - crispy fries topped with Gorgonzola, jalapeño beer cheese, avocado chimichurri, and slices of tender ancho marinated Carne asada. TRUFFLE FRIES: definitely worth the upgrade if you're thinking about elevating your plain side of fries into a savory and herby-fresh blast of flavor. RIBEYE STEAK: I was able to try a tender bite from a generous colleague's 12oz slab. PARKING Parking is easy in a big lot with ample amount of stalls for patrons.

Yelp
Flavor City! Not typical flavors but so much better! We loved it all especially since the flavor profiles were so darn delicious. Asian flair sauces made our night! Everything well cooked and so seasoned! First time ever I didn't need to add salt! Highly recommended. Great service. Beautiful. It got a bit chilly so bring a sweater! Lots of parking in the evening. Random location in the middle of tall buildings but don't let that discourage you! 10/10 food!!!

Yelp
We ended up staying at the Marriott across the street and didn't realize it's a commercial area. The only restaurant in the vicinity is Karl Strauss and with hungry kids, we needed an easy option. We went across the street to check it out... First off, the place is super cool! It's surrounded by trees and has a beautiful koi pond that the kids loved. The majority of the tables are wrapped outside on a wooden patio with heaters and TV screens everywhere. It wasn't very busy on a Friday night so we were able to really enjoy the ambiance. When we walked in and asked for a table, the hostess wasn't very friendly and seemed upset that we didn't have a reservation (again, it wasn't busy) and angrily walked us to a table. It was a red flag at first but the rest of the experience made up for it. Our server was super kind, welcoming and on top of everything. She had tons of food recommendations and seemed very passionate about how good the food is. The bar was set high... As a group, we got... - Duck Fat Pretzels - Chipotle Chicken Sandwich - Steak Frites - Salmon Salad - Kids Burger - Kids Butter Noodles - Tropical Butter Cake We can confidently say that all of the food was top notch!!! The chicken sandwich was on of the best we've ever had (seriously!), Steak was cooked to perfection, kids at all of their food and dessert was amazing. The meal was so good that we came back for dinner the next night. Haha. It was interesting that we received the same attitude from the same hostess but ended up with another, also spectacular, server who was great! We highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area for great drinks and amazing food!

Yelp
We had such a nice early afternoon at Karl Strauss! We have been looking for good places to take our kids and everyone was so nice to our entire family. The kids loved their burger and fries and the fish and chips! They don't skimp on the kids food AT ALL! And the adult food is always so good! And the beer of course is always great!! The golden stout was on tap and it's one of their best if you get a chance to try!! If you want a relaxing place to take your kids, I would definitely recommend it! Thanks to Karl Strauss for such a nice experience!

Yelp
Beautiful setting + impeccable service + delicious food. I had the Korean BBQ Chicken Salad and my husband had a burger. Our waitress even brought some water for our toddler. Super nice service and its a nice place to have a quiet family dinner away. It's definitely a hidden gem and we can't wait to return.

Yelp
Food is decent, similar to any bar food The service is also decent Really like the ambiance, it's very pretty and strangely situated inside a plaza but, nonetheless, a worthy spot to check out for some good beers, scenery, chill vibe

Yelp
food was fantastic, service was subpar. came here with a group of 11, all of them were out of town relatives. I'm not sure if it was my dad's idea or the bartender but my dad told our whole table to just go up to the bar and tell them our table number and order. I was so disappointed. my relatives were so confused and didn't know what to do so I WAS THE ONE that ended up walking around the whole table taking orders and then sending them all in to the bartender. I think if I can do that, and all the staff does is bring the food out, I should get 50% of the tip, no? anyway, food was still delicious so I still have to give at least 4 stars. just hoping that next time I'm there with a big group the treatment is a little better.

Yelp
Checked this place out because it is so close to my house and soon became one of my favorite places for happy hour!! Beers are like $6 and all their appetizers are $10. Service has always been good when I go, and there is also an option to just order on your phone from a QR code so you don't need a server. This way you can pay on your phone, which is convenient. My fav foods are the Ahi Poke Nachos and the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. I've also had the buffalo wings and carne asada fries which are good options as well. My friends and I LOVE the outdoor seating. The koi pond and patio is so peaceful. The whole restaurant is like a little peaceful getaway. I highly recommend coming during the week before 6pm for happy hour!! You get a great deal for a yummy meal.

Yelp
Unique beautiful location; spacious wooden structure with lush Japanese garden, large koi pond and multiple surrounding outer decks. I've just recently started going here and great items so far are the excellent fish and chips and very tasty brined pork chop. I would avoid the pastrami sandwich as with the thin sliced meat you're tasting mostly bread. Roommate raved about the Mesquite chicken sandwich and Mud pie. Great beer of course and fine, friendly service. Well done Karl, Cheers!

Yelp
This is the nicest brewery I've ever been in! Apparently Karl Strauss is a known brewery and I'm glad my friend brought me in. This is like, brewery meets zen garden. The environment was just so beautiful and relaxing. I was only here for a bit but I wish I stayed to try the food. Most of the other reviews had a lot of good to say. Bet this place gets pretty crowded but for a Saturday it was very chill. I had a milk stout and I definitely enjoyed it. A little expensive for $8, just because I didn't really get much. They still have typical brewery quirks like decorated wood panels displaying the beers. Definitely an awesome looking place, makes me want to work in the area so I can enjoy the vibes during afternoon lunches.

Yelp
12/10/2024 My husband and I had lunch at the bar. Imperial Red Trolley was solid, calamari, fried Jalapeno was amazing, and the bone in pork chop was stellar!!! We are still talking about it. The highlight of our stay was the beer tender who was down to earth, knowledgeable and friendly. He just rolled through each step effortlessly and efficiently with a smile and was seen making sure his guests were taken care of in a timely manner. Briefly chatted with the manager and he was so humble. Yes!, we can see why they are always busy. We will definitely come back!

Yelp
Tried their Oktoberfest beer on its first day release (tasty marzen, but a little too forward on the smoke for me). Husband had a burger and I had their Mac n cheese with bacon, ham and andouille sausage...both delicious. Also had their pretzel appetizer, and their beer cheese dip sold me on their Mac n cheese...also delicious. Great views overlooking a hidden koi pond in the middle of a business park. Very nice service too, would come back again.

Yelp
Fantastic brewery, bar and restaurant. Lots of beer and really good ones. Menu is pretty good too, and staff is super friendly. It seems happy hour is busy and popular with large parties! Hefeweizen beer is fantastic. Probably the best US brewed one I had. Hummus was delicious and sausage plate was just right. To top it all off these guys will put beer in the can, seal the can and let you take it home! The only downside to this establishment is a tiny bar seating area. I have never seen bar that seats only 4 people at the bar! Will gladly return

Yelp
Came here with some coworkers for lunch and the view is absolutely stunning! The plants, bridge and koi pond were just soo fun! We were seated outside where we could continue to enjoy the view while eating. It definitely added to the experience. You have to order your food using a QR code and it was actually a bit difficult. Apparently one of the dishes was out of stock so it ended up deleting out entire group's order and we had to start over. This isn't exactly helpful when you are on a timecrunch from work. The worst part is it didn't even tell us which dish was out of stock so we had to do trial and error since we couldn't find a server to flag down and ask. For appetizers, we got the Beer Pretzels and the Double Truffle Fries. The fries were really good, but pretty expensive for the amount we got. The pretzels were big, but weren't anything special. Even the sauces it came with were pretty standard. For my entree, I got the Ahi Poke Nachos with no cilantro aioli and added avocado. This is supposed to be an appetizer and the amount you get makes sense, but not for the price. It is way too expensive for how little they give you. Plus an extra $2 for not even a quarter of an avocado. I also ended with soo many leftover tortilla chips. The flavor of everything was good and it all blended nicely together. I was happy at the freshness of the ahi tuna as well. While the food was pretty good, the price is ridiculous for what you get. I wouldn't come back here for this fact alone. I can get better tasting food for less at other places.

Yelp
Stopped by this Karl Strauss while visiting some friends in San Diego, and we were pleasantly surprised to find this chain nestled in the midst of a Japanese style garden! The ambiance was amazing, with a koi pond right next to the outdoor patio, and lily pads everywhere. Our daughter had a great time and was entertained throughout lunch. The food and drinks were pretty standard for Karl Strauss, but we especially enjoyed the summer special sausage platter. The service was also pretty standard, and since it wasn't a busy day we ordered everything via the bar. PRO-TIP: request a space on the patio next to the pond and sit the kids next to the water!

Yelp
Service was terrible we waited at least 45 minutes to get our check after we asked for it. The ahi nachos was not fresh. Nice location- a surprise but this doesn't make up for poor service and eh food.

Yelp
Beautiful hidden gem with a koi pond and Japanese garden!!! It's located in an industrial/office park but don't let that fool you. When you enter the establishment, it feels like you're walking into a hidden oasis with bonsai trees, zen garden, and pond with koi fish! There's indoor and outdoor seating but the prime seats next to the koi pond are limited so be sure to call and reserve if you're coming from out of town. Their beer selection is great per usual. LOVE LOVE LOVE their golden stout!!!! Their Korean bbq bowl was a good healthy option. I went with the ahi protein option so it was basically a poke bowl/bibimbap fusion. I tried a bite of my husband's food truck burger with fries and that was also delicious. Place was nice and clean (including their bathrooms). Ample parking too. What's not to like?!

Yelp
Food and beers are good and prices are reasonable. They are kid friendly and have a good kids menu. I like the pond and trees as it creates a nice atmosphere. On the other hand, the pond needs some cleaning and has a bad odor. I also think the tables and chairs need to be updated as some chairs are mixed matched. Overall, it's a nice spot but needs some updating.

Yelp
We made an online family order and had my snl picked it up. I couldn't decide what to get for dinner and ended up ordering the Korean BBQ rice bowl. I wasn't impressed, but I guess it was a light meal despite having rice. I think the sauce didn't pair well with the meat I chose, so maybe next time I'll try something else.

Yelp
This feels like a lovely little hideaway, which I love. I come here to meet a group of people on a regular basis, and we always meet in the bar. The food is fine for what it is - tavern grub. Service - not great. In an effort to save money, I would guess, in the bar there is no actual service for food and drinks. There is a scannable QR code on the table that you used to order from your phone, and then the food is brought out to you. It works OK, and maybe I'm old-school, but I'd rather have waitstaff. And honestly? If it's saving any money, it's not showing up in the prices.

Yelp
Poor service, my wife has to ask for her Ice tea up to four times, food was ok, we were a group and asked for separate bills. By the time they give me my bill I was charge for two beers and a can martini that the other people on our group ordered. I was not going to complaint I just paid my bill. Yes I leave a tip (I'm a bartender and I like to tip people).. Service definitely was bad. Carl Strauss was my favorite place (I may give another chance to Carlsbad, but not the one in Mira Mesa.

Yelp
Solid work lunch option in the area. I never expect much from Karl Strauss because it feels like a San Diego staple that has been around forever, but every time I visit, I am pleasantly surprised by my experience. I called in the day of for a lunch reservation for 10 and they easily accommodated my request. We pulled up the menu with the QR code when seated and placed our order. Everything came out within 20 minutes. Really smooth experience for a group. I got the Salmon Cesar Salad and really enjoyed how the salmon was cooked and seasoned. Still juicy on the inside and not dry at all. Our group also shared some brussel sprouts and french fries. The french fries were also nicely fried. Would definitely recommend for lunch and HH if you work in the area.
