Miami’s 13 Most Iconic Restaurant Dishes

"Pastelitos are flaky turnover-style pastries made from a thin dough crimped at the edges and fried, a Cuban pastry that, in Miami, is eaten for breakfast, lunch, and even as dessert. Years of family baking tradition passed on to generations is why Karla Bakery maintains its popularity. Take a number and gaze at the selections available filled with tropical fruits and cream cheese, but make sure to pick the fan favorite pastelito de carne packed with a hearty serving of its marinated ground beef, followed by a sweet guava iteration." - Juliana Accioly, Olee Fowler

This location is always clean and the temperature inside is always refreshing compared to some other cafeterias that are so hot and uncomfortable inside. The food is great and the service is just perfect!

Google
Just do yourself a flavor and have a ham and cheese, cheese or beef empanadas with your favorite coffee at Karla Bakery! Their pastelitos (guava is my favorite) are also to die for! The team is super kind and efficient. Love, love, love!

Google
Karla Bakery Review We visited Karla Bakery with a group of four adults and one child, and we had a wonderful experience. We tried a variety of items from the menu, including the cheese tequeños, Cuban sandwich, and the mango and mamey smoothies. Everything was delicious, but the standout for us was definitely the Cuban sandwich – it was perfectly made and packed with flavor. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, and it was clear that everything was fresh. The total bill came to $59.29 for all our items, which felt like great value for the quality of the food. There was plenty of room to sit, and parking was free, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Overall, we will definitely be coming back, especially for breakfast. Highly recommend!

Good and Service amazing. Highly recommended.

This bakery has been in business for many years, the quality increased after the new acquisition, love the place and the food. When ever they renew the place they had everything with high quality, but las time I went the pastry where blown out and burned, the photo that I posted it's really old. I wonder what happen because that picture it's evidence of one of the best guava and cheese pastry puff I've tried before. Edit: you can see the diference between the first Pic on the guava and cheese pastelitos on the pics I've posted, tastewise the still the best I've eaten!

The cortadito was really good, but I wasn't a fan of the cheese on top of the omelet.

Google
I rarely give bad reviews, but the Cuban pastel de Carne although beautifully heart shaped was hard and dry. The meat also not good at all. The croquetas de jamon and bacalao had zero ham and cod flavor. I never have leftovers when I ordered Cuban pasteles, and croquetas, but I couldn’t finish these. A 24 bakery should have fresh pastries all day, especially at 1pm. If these items were at least edible, I would not be leaving this review steer clear of this place. On a positive note the young man at the counter gave good service.

Edward Gutierrez

Google
Over all great place. Best coffee I have had in a long time. Food was good and all were the pastry.

Yelp
Pros: The location was perfect. Our Airbnb was right by the airport, I assume there are a lot of bnbs around that area, all serviced by the same Karla. Ambiance inside the store was nice and clean and well lit. I loved that it was open 24 hours, because as an early starter, I didn't have to wait until places opened to get some food. Service was super friendly. There was a bit of a language barrier, but we got through it just fine. Food was excellent. Warm, fluffy, crispy little pasteles. Sweet, savory, everything you could want. They even have unique little sandwiches on their amazing Cuban bread. Cons: No cons. Tips: Anything you could get would be good. The craziest thing we had was a croquette sandwich. Wow, how unique and delicious!

Yelp
Stopped by Miami for an Airbnb place to sleep on my way to the Florida Keys. Went to sleep, woke up, hit the road, and of course, when in Miami, you get breakfast at a little Cuban bakery. So on my way to get gas, I spotted Karla's. It was pretty early, but luckily this place is open 24/7! Ambiance was nice. It was in a dimly lit part of town, but inside was nice and bright and friendly and inviting. Service was nice. The ladies behind the counter were very patient with me as I tried to pick an appropriate amount of options from their vast menu. I ended up picking a wide array of things. Some sweet, some savory, some fried, some baked. It was all delicious. No issues with any of it. I even think this place fills their stuffed things with a little more stuffing than average, so take that into account. Also, they had a very unique thing, a croqueta sandwich! A big ol' croqueta in between two slices of that amazingly soft Cuban bread with some sauces and maybe some cheese I can't remember. Either way, it was dynamite. Please get this. And just get everything. I couldn't find a bad thing to eat here.

Yelp
asked for no mayo probably 6 times. got mayo on my sandwich. can't eat this $20 sandwich yes $20 cus after the combo w the orange juice it ends up being $20 and i can't eat it. there is no actual cuban flavor in this place capitalism took over lol, ladies were nice nothing to say about the place save your money and go somewhere else. i've come here a couple of times and i guess it's my fault since i continue to have bad experiences here, last time they forgot my empanada. this time the mayo thing. the time before that they didn't give me an order of tostada i had to go back and pick it up and they gave me attitude like crazy. my boyfriend has had his orders messed up too, the orange juice is sour. A waste of money disguised as a bakery i'm telling you. sorry to be gross but included is the pic of the sandwich i will be throwing away bc of the mayo and it tastes gross anyway, also the orange juice was sour. no vibes.

Yelp
My friend had a flight flying out at 5 in the morning, which meant we were up at 2 am trying to find a last bite of Miami food before leaving. This place was super close to the airport. PARKING: Plaza has a parking lot. Pretty empty late at night. FOOD AND COFFEE: All the croquetas, papitas rellenas, and the guava pastry were pretty standard, and nothing stood out particularly to me. My favorite though was the guava and cheese tequeno, which had the perfect amount of guava and was heavenly eaten hot. The chicken pastry was also unique to me, a little sweet. The cortadito was also pretty solid. SERVICE: The ladies working were super super sweet and friendly! We joked around a little bit and were very accommodating when we had questions or asked for boxes or straws. VIBES: We ordered to go, but there was no shortage of seating in there. BOTTOM LINE: Pretty good! As a non-Miami native, I don't really have a lay of the land when it comes to Cuban bakeries so I'm sure there's better. But for me, everything tasted good and I was happy with my order.

Yelp
No stars. Do not purchase food using Grub Hub thru Yelp ! Customer service for grub hub is outsourced. I had scheduled my order for 6am, it apprently didn't go through and status of order never changed. I checked with the bakery directly and they never received my order. 2 calls to Grub hub to please make sure to cancel my order . repeatedly asked to cancel at least 20 times, as I could not wait any longer and Bakery had confirmed they did not have the order, fake outsourced customer service put me on hold and purposely reentered the order for a later time ! Intentionally knowing it would arrive late. Grub hub pushed my order through , re orderedand it arrived an hour later than my original time . I was no longer home and food spoiled outside. Never ever will I use Grub Hub and never order food through 3rd party Yelp. There is no one that is going to help you. Go directly to uber eats. This was not the fault of Karla Bakery who has a good product.

Kevin V.

Yelp
they don't care about their delivery orders, please be mindful that they will send you spoiled food if they have already ran of any fresh item your ordering,

Emilio C.

Yelp
The cuban tost was so bad soft, mushy they dont have a tost or a grill and was full of margarina without spreding inide the toast and price is to high for the quality of the food this Karla is located at 7004 SW 4th St., Miami, FL 33144 70 near Flagler in a wharehouse aerea the place is disgusting they place the Cuban bread in a plastic bag and the plastic in a paper bag that is not good bread will get soft, mushy, limp, or floppy SOCATO!

Yelp
I love a good Cuban Bakery. Let's just say this is not one I recommend. I thought I should give it a try. The pastelito tasted off and the cafe con leche was watered down. I am all for giving a spot another chance so I might pop in again. But there's other better Cuban spots around.

Yelp
Different look but familiar taste! At first glance these don't look like your typical Cuban pastelitos. Wife and I decided to give Karla Bakery, located on Flagler and 64th Ave SW, a try. Inside seating is minimal but they have a large open space. We wanted to try the basics of a good cuban bakery, the tostada, croquettas and pastelitos. Their pastelitos didn't look like what typical Cuban pastelitos look like, shape wise. They were a bit larger than normal and most seemed to be encrusted in sugar. The queso and guayaba pastelito had a thick sugary crusty layer but inside was gushing with guava and cheese. The regular pastelito de guayaba did not have the sugar encrusted topping and I enjoyed that one more. Sometimes less is more. The croquettas were ok. The OJ was just perfection. The tostada good too. Be warned that if you ask for extra butter, your tostada will be floating in butter. The lines move fast and they crank customers in and out. Staff is nice but seemed overwhelmed on occasion. Wish they had a water station with paper cups as most Cuban bakeries. Overall everything was good. At $1.70 for pastelitos it seemed a little pricey but considering that they are a bit bigger than normal and at least the ones we got were stuffed with filling it was reasonable. Although 3 dollars for a tostada felt a bit much especially considering a whole cuban bread was 2 dollars. But nonetheless we were pleasantly stuffed leaving. Overall I would prefer a more typical Cuban bakery but they hit the spot if in the area.

Yelp
Loved this little cafe! The food was amazing, and the Cuban coffee was even better. We were greeted with a smile, and the sweet lady helped up pick out some food that we should try for our first time. We felt like we were at her home in her kitchen because she was so friendly and treated us as family. Definitely try this place if you're curious, and they will make you confident in your visit!

Yelp
I've always come to this bakery to pick up pastries for my family when I visit their place and the service never disappoints. The staff is really nice, very helpful. I love their Beef Empanadas and their selection of sodas and they offer these big wrapped dishes full of pastries perfect for family reunions and other things. The ambiance is calm, not that many chairs to sit at though. This place was remodeled a few years ago and the people working as the staff changed, but the quality of the service and the food has never changed.

Yelp
I've stopped in to Karla's twice now; both times were around 9 pm. The place is super cute and clean and they have your usual assortment of pastelitos and treats. I enjoyed the little mini chocolate cakes. They were fresh and tasty. The service was ok. No complaints. They are open 24 hours, and are def a nice option if you are hankering for some Cuban treats at any time of the day or night.

Jack R.

Yelp
The best service and the best food. if you love Cuban cuisine you should definitely check out Karla's bakery
google avatar

Annia A.

Yelp
I love Karla's croquettas. If you're not a bechamel lover like me, you should try it out. This time around, I ordered catering trays of mini croquettas, bocaditos and assorted pastelitos. Obviously, there were no leftovers. Stop by for a pastel de coco & an epic colada!

Yelp
amazing service with excellent food variety. The clerk was gracious and very attentive in meeting my needs. I would say that she deserves a raise on my count for the great service provided by her. This location was on 8754 sw 40st miami fl 33165. Her name was ELIS R AND THIS visit took place on 01/02/2025 at 3:31 pm .

Yelp
I was down south attending my workshop. Using Yelp, I found this place. It was a clean and cute place. I ordered media noche and it came hot and nice. I also ordered the side of croqueta de bacalao. Delicious!! My American friend also liked her media noche and she enjoyed guava y queso pastelito too. The communication was bit hard since the ladies at the counter spoke limited English. But the food was good and I was happy with my cortadito too.

Jorge R.

Yelp
Pastelitos are good and fresh again and back to normal size! Ok but I can only afford 1 for me and one for my mother. lol. Cuban bread is nice and fresh too. Not open 24 hours is probably better, because everything tastes better now. Quality before anything when it comes to what I eat.

Yelp
I visited this bakery yesterday, around 1:30 there were literally 2 people in line including myself.. the lady in the front was unbothered, slow.. I waited at least 15 minutes in line I ended up leaving.. what a way to loose business because of terrible employee!

Yelp
I really enjoy the pastries and pastelitos from Karla Bakery. It's also a plus that the employees are very sweet and friendly.

Yelp
This is where you can get energized in the morning. Sometimes, service can take a little while, but you get what you want here. The coffee is delicious and fresh. The pastries are scrumptious like a delicious biscuit from New England- Cuban style. The ambiance is Beyoncé-Ing. It's good. The service staff treat you like family.

Trinidad M.

Yelp

Yelp

Amy M.

Yelp
Great service. Always timely delivery. The pan con bistec is amazing -Amy Definitely will not regret it.

Yelp
I was meeting a client in the area and stopped to get breakfast. The place is nice, the staff is friendly. They have baked goods and can make items from the menu. A few things to keep in mind: - almost nobody speaks English - there is no tea - when you order coffee, specify, otherwise you will get Cuban coffee with small cups. Also, I repeated numerous times that my coffee is without sugar or milk, and still got coffee with sugar. So try it before leaving the place. Overall nice place. I recommend it for breakfast.

Roger G.

Yelp
Not a big fan of there pastries but all the locations are spot on. Great service and cleanliness. But i was a little disappointed this morning when I went in for breakfast this morning. I'm not a big fan of their cuban bread so I ordered my toast on sweet bread. The cashier advised me that wouldn't be possible and I thought you couldn't make any changes so preceded to order the breakfast the way it comes with a side order of sweet bread toast and that wasn't possible either. I could see if they didn't offer that type of bread but they have several sandwiches with that option. I really wish they had that option being that their right up the street from me. But then again I'm thankful to live in a country full of options. Got my breakfast up the street for half the price and had table service. It's the little things like this that leave a bad taste in your mouth. I wish much continued success and be assured I will never step foot in any of your establishments.

Yelp
Amazing !! Been coming here years ! I love to come here late at night ! I can always count on them to have fresh yemitas !
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Open 24 hours a day! They have your regular array of pastelitos and desserts but they also have combos including sandwiches. The steak sandwich combo is like $7 and it is huge! Includes French fries and a soft drink which you can change for a cafe con leche if you like. The steak is really soft and not hard to bite. That to me is really important. All in all I was very pleased with this Karla bakery and the 24 hours thing is just impressive. Update: I'm taking away a star because they did away with their combo and are charging the same Price, fries and soda are apart now for an additional charge. Why do away with a good thing? This was your hook.

Luisito M.

Yelp
Is to spensive ,8 dollars 1small cafee and 1pandebono is not fair . ???????????????????????????????????????????????... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
We were shocked at how bad the food was (some of the desserts are another story). The only reason this didn't get one star is that some of those are good. Our party consisted of three generations of Cubans--we may have tasted some Cuban food in the past. At first we were all silent, a rarity in our culture. When someone finally talked, we all had the same thought. That the food was so shockingly bad we assumed it had to be just ours or just our tastes. But no... Papas rellenas: The outside was perfectly crispy, thin, and light. That's where the awesomeness ended. The meat was completely cold, and the potato was insanely salty. Like hurt your mouth salty. Just awful. Croquetas de jamón: Seemed like they had been out in the case for a day. Very mushy outside and just a weird texture. Extremely salty also. Croquetas de la casa (beef): SALT!!!! SALT!!! There were some spices hidden in there somewhere. Did I mention that salt is all you taste? Even the person in my party who adds unnecessary salt to everything said this was too much. The pastry that should be filled with real guava and some cream cheese was instead filled with some sort of thin jelly that tasted like a bad jelly donut, and some kind of strangely lumpy cheese. (I'll upload a photo of it.) The person who ordered it left 2/3 behind with the comment, "Not worth the calories." I didn't try it, but a 48 year old Cuban knows what it should taste like. The pastry with ham and cheese inside was described as "plastic cheese with some paper-based ham." No flavor, oil texture. At least it wasn't salty. The cod croquetas got a good review from two people. I personally didn't like them, but that's only my taste, the others did like them. The two shakes tasted like tiny amounts of fake fruit and a little sugar. Both people discarded them. The two family-size desserts we picked up for a party were well received. I don't eat junk food, but everyone who tried them said they were very good. They are the only reason this isn't a 1-star review. Oh, service was super friendly, but also super disorganized. The cashier had to figure out how to find each item every time we added one. She had trouble adding more quantities of each item as each person ordered. The order for five people took close to ten minutes. Friendly and patient, but inefficient. Then they brought out some items, but left others on the counter. Took a long time to get water, and we were needed in NOW because of all the salt. It took several hours for the salt sensation to leave my mouth.

Yelp
el mejor bakery del mundo al estilo cubano mi instagram es abiel.blanco asegurate de probar los pastelitos de queso y guayaba

Yelp
I asked for their pan con bistec to go and unfortunately for me when I was able to eat my sandwich, I realized it wasn't nothing like the menu's descriptions. It was literally just bread and steak and some onions. Very disappointed, specially cause I couldn't do anything about it.

Ariel E.

Yelp
me encanta los dulces de Karla Bakery los más sabrosos y fresco. Tienen muy buen servicio

Yelp
NOT FRESH!! NO SON FRESCO LOS PASTELITOS! Went this morning at 7:30 AM to buy pastelitos for breakfast, bought a huge assortment out of the display case. They were not fresh!!! My whole family agreed they were not fresh, and stale. What a waste of money!! We threw them out. Even the Cuban bread felt like it was day old. Hadn't been in a few years, and we won't be back.
google avatar

Arlene M.

Yelp
Make sure you go to Denny's instead of this place overpriced and low quality food not your typical miami sandwiches we are accustomed too sad might as well order toast and butter
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
I found Karla's bakery later in the evening when most bakeries had already closed. I was glad to find one open that sold señoritas, so I could buy them to take on my flight. Karla's bakery is a nice size with tables to sit and eat. They had easy menu options with pictures and prices. Right at the time I was ordering, a new batch came out. Four señoritas were just under $5. I don't know if I got a bad batch, but I've had my fair share of señoritas and none tasted like Karla's. It had a nutmeg flavor that isn't usually there. Also, the pastry crust was darker than normal. See picture. The señorita was edible, but it was not the delicious, classic señorita. Karla's is convenient and satisfied my need; however, i was not satisfied with the taste of the señorita de azúcar. There are some other bakeries open 24 hours and I might check into them instead.

Yelp
Pretty decent bakery. They got our order wrong, but when we did get the right order, it was pretty good! Ordered a mango shake and a guava pastry
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
My most recent visit to Miami has been something akin to a Croquette tour... Karla's have been the weakest by far. Mediocre coffee. Average pastries. Go somewhere else.
google avatar

Angelo R.

Yelp
Good 1st time experience. I had an office pot luck luncheon so I searched online for a reasonable bakery. This was out of my way but I read the Yelp reviews and this place was decent. I was helped by one of Cuban ladies behind the counter. She had difficulty understanding English but she took the time to point which ones were there most popular items. I tried their chicken, beef, ham & sausage empanadas cuban style (they also offer bake Argentinian ones), ham croquetas and beef papas rellenas. I liked all of the them except for ham & sausage emapandas. It was little dry for me and not enough filling inside. So I ordered a platter for next day pick with the ones I did like. It was also inexpensive: Empanadas - $1.52 - 1.77 Croquetas - $ .77 Papas Rellenas - $1.27 They also have a huge selection of desserts and cuban pastries on display, plus full service breakfast and lunch menu. I will order here again for the next pot luck party or bring some treats for my staff :)

Yelp
What Happened to this awesome bakery?? Their signature pasta Leto's have changed to something generic very thin and very hard. I don't know what to say but what I just received is not what I'm used to getting at such a great bakery also the place change the menu is different don't know what to say even the Cuban bread was bad.
google avatar

Debbie C.

Yelp
The pastelitos are not the same recipe. The guava pastelitos are awful and if you don't tip they will give you an old pastry that has been sitting. Publix seems to have everything more fresh and original recipes.
google avatar

Nadia Carmen C.

Yelp
This place is good if you are ordering a special hot order. But, if ordering pastries they are cold and I asked if they can be warmed up and they said they don't have a microwave or anyway to do it. Also, expect to wait 15 minutes minimum in line. Very slow! It's a shame because they used to be much better.

Milena E.

Yelp
Best bakery in Miami ,good service ,and the coffee tastes delicious .Don't hesitate to stop and try .
google avatar

Maria Elena L.

Yelp
I have no idea what happened with this bakery. Pastelitos are not any Cuban recipes that I recognized. We spent 24 dollars in 6 pastels a cortadito and batido de mamey. Everything was awful. Pastels are light and fluffy, these pastels are heavy and all filing very artificial from the meat paste like filling. To dry paste cream cheese. The Cuban toast was fine but it was not butter but something else spread on this bread. My advice if you find yourself in this neighborhood don't stop here keep going.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Open 24/7!! However, since we came late (around midnight on a Sunday), there definitely seemed to be less of an assortment of pastels to choose from. Not everyone here speaks English, but there is at least one person who can help you if you can't speak Spanish. I ended up trying: -Pastel Guayava ($0.95), Tequeto Pequeto Guayaba Y Queso ($1.27), Pastel Guayaba Y Queso ($0.95) [http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=9y53ivHtDbLlyuTtyq7jaw&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg]: The tequeto was definitely the least favorite since the piece of queso in here was giant and salty- skip! The guava & queso and plain guava were both good, but nothing special. I thought they needed more filling to pastry ratio. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but it is very convenient they are open 24/7. Since we came so late there was plenty of parking, but their lot isn't that big.

Yelp
Good customer services but low quality of the products I don't know what happened but they always has the best products we asked for croquettes sandwich wasn't the same like before was horrible with different types of bread and no quality at all
