"The Indonesian food scene has long been thriving in Amsterdam, and Kartika, which has been around for decades, is still the best of the best. The a la carte menu is a sure bet, but the specialty here is the rijsttafel (something like the Indonesian answer to dim sum). You can request the vegetarian version or opt for the meat, either way, each of the dozen or so lovingly prepared, incredibly flavorful dishes promises to be exceptional."

The food here is exceptional! First time I’ve ever had Indonesian food and it was amazing. My party and I split the rice shareable meal, and we enjoyed every dish. The meats were very tender and flavorful. The service was also very attentive and kind. I also love reading the owners responses to the 1 star reviews, they’re well deserved because this place was nothing but great!

We've been in Amsterdam for 4 days and this is the best meal we've had the entire trip! The staff were so kind and friendly, the atmosphere was nice, and the food! The two of us had the Ramayana and it was a wonderful way to try a range of different foods. The homemade peanut sauce was especially good! It was a really generous amount of food and well thought out with flavour pairings and recommendations. We were offered more of any dishes we liked best free of charge! Although we were much too full to accept the kind offer. Included in the meal was some lovely cracker starters and for dessert was fried banana and lemon ice cream - not a combination I thought would work but I was very happy to be proven wrong! I would absolutely go again and will be telling any friends who visit to make sure they eat here!

We heard that Indonesian food was delicious in the Netherlands, so we chose this place based on positive reviews. It did not disappoint!! Due to peanut allergies, we ordered items a la carte. We chose both tofu dishes, one chicken, and one beef dish. The service was wonderful, and the food delicious! One tip is to make reservations. On a Thursday, the restaurant was packed with a line! We got lucky walking in because we got there early (6 pm).

Excellent Indonesian (rijsttafel) dinner! We had to wait about 25min for a table (because we hadn’t made a reservation). But the staff were very efficient and kept us updated (“people will be paying soon, we’ll have a table for you in 10-15min”). Once seated they gave us menus and got our orders very quickly and the food was delivered promptly thereafter. It was so flavourful, and plenty (we were three and stuffed afterwards!) Waiter was so kind and friendly and gave us an explanation of what each little dish was. Even though they were busy and others were waiting for a table - we never felt rushed. Absolutely worth it. I will definitely go back!

Google
Bright yet cozy atmosphere, SCRUMPTIOUS food, and such lovely and kind staff members! I visited by myself for dinner and even though I was extremely hungry as this was my first meal for the day, the plate I ordered (fried noodles with three different kinds of meat) and the chips I got as starters were very filling. The ice cream and tea provided on the house were also very nice. I’m not an expert on Indonesian food but this did taste different from all the Indonesian food I’ve had so far. All in all a wonderfully satisfying experience and would recommend to anyone.

Google
The nicest wait staff ever. So friendly and happy to share the joy of Indonesian food. The satay sauce is something I would slap on everything I could. Very reasonably priced with a menu open for exploring many different dishes. A meal set comes with crackers, selection of mains, dessert and tea. Great vegetarian options too - love a good use of jackfruit.

Charming tiny place with delicious food and top notch service. The servers are so lovely and they even gave us complimentary icecream at the end. really lovely experience ❤️

Google
Food was exceptional! Highly recommend the rice table for two. It was nice to get to try a little bit of everything. The dishes were unique, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. It was even rounded off with some delicious sorbet and warm tea service. Overall, I think it's definitely worth what you pay and I'm glad that we had this experience here while in Amsterdam. I have a friend who is traveling there this month and I suggested she visit here!

Yelp
Our first time to Kartika in Amsterdam. Their food was amazing delicious! We ordered Ramayana on their menu which is recommended by their staff. It is a little of everything of their specialties includes rendang, stew meat and vegetables . Total of about 10 different types. Guess what .. we were happy and very satisfied with our choice to go with Ramayana! The portion was good for 2 persons. They served some rice as well to go with the dishes and some crackers as appetizer. Their sambal and peanut sauce were yummy. Highly recommended! You may want to make the reservation beforehand. We were lucky to get a table during their opening hour.

Yelp
By far, one of the best meals we've had on our recent trip to Amsterdam. I've heard a lot about the huge Indonesian population and influence in Amsterdam, so an Indonesian meal was a must on our to-do list. I was glad we'd called first to reserve a table as they fill up fairly quickly in the evenings, and the restaurant itself isn't too large. They have a decent-sized menu, but if it's your first time here, the rice table (rijsttafel) is a MUST. Think of it as a taster menu with 10-12 different dishes plus appetizers, rice, and dessert. For the rice table, they have 2 options, the Ramayana which includes chicken and beef, and the Shinta which is vegetarian-friendly. My husband is deathly allergic to anything from the ocean, so you could imagine his excitement when they told us that they don't have any seafood in the restaurant so he didn't have to worry about any fish sauce or shrimp paste. The dishes were mindblowing, each variety so packed with flavor that paired so well with the sticky rice the meal came with. I am still dreaming about that meal and only wish we had rice tables available in the US. Unfortunately, it's more of a Dutch-Indonesian thing. If you're in Amsterdam or planning to make a trip there soon, add this place to your list!

Yelp
The flavors for their 'Ramayan' Rijsttafel (rice table) is the best I have had in Amsterdam and Hague. The mini buffet was perfectly portioned for two, with distinct flavors. Only nit is that they don't serve any complementary tap water, but that can be overlooked for the food and service otherwise.
google avatar

Yelp
What an incredible dining experience. The ambiance was excellent, as the restaurant is set up beautifully. Everything in the Ramayana was delicious. The ingredients were fresh, and each dish was flavorful. The service was attentive and thoughtful. This is the best Indonesian restaurant I have ever been to.

Yelp
A spontaneous walk led us to this fantastic Indonesian restaurant. There was a bit of a wait for dinner since we didn't make a reservation (about 30 minutes), but the host was super kind and kept apologizing for the wait. But it was ok because it gave us time to look over the menu, stare at a couple of people's orders and pick what we wanted. The vibe of the place is pretty simple with common asian design. The interior space is pretty small but the dining area does spill out into the street for more seating on good days. We got the Ramayana which is a few small plates of different orders. The food was fantastic. They were all so flavorful, perfectly spiced and a great contrast/break from the pub food we had been eating all over Amsterdam. The food can be a bit spicy, especially after eating food without much spice so just be ready.

Yelp
Very, very good but have had better. We arrived for our reservation and were quickly seated. We asked for a 6:30 reservation but was asked it we could arrive at 6:00PM so we did. We didn't have much of a problem ordering dinner as we had already decided on the rijstaffel. We ordered the meat option. It came with about 10 different tastes. Wish I could list them all but that would be impossible unless I went online and copied them. Just trust me. This place is very good. The food was tasty but some of the small tastes started tasting a bit alike. The prices are more reasonable than most Indonesian restaurants in the city that serve the rijstaffel. So therefore we would recommend. My pictures should show the abundance of food served for two. Good luck. We couldn't eat it all. Highly recommend one make reservations. We saw many people get turned away at the door. Service was ok, not the absolute best but ok.

Yelp
Loved everything about Kartika, from the welcoming staff to the ambiance to the delicious food. There were three of us and we stopped by at opening without a reservation (actually tried to make one, but they never answered the phone) and they sat us with the stipulation that we would have to finish within an hour and a half; we thought we could, so we sat. Since this was my first time in Amsterdam and the first experience with a rice table (, we decided to order it. We were going to order for three, but the wait staff suggested that we order for two and split it if we weren't ravenous; so glad she suggested that because there was more food than we could eat! The food was amazing; there were so many different items and we had fun trying each one. Most were mild but a couple had some kick to them. So delicious!

Yelp
Great Indonesian food experience! If you're in the area don't miss out on visiting Kartika. I love that they compiled an option to try all of their dishes in small portions - Ramayana option . All options consisted of meat, poultry or vegetables and did not included seafood (which is a win for me). Everything was delicious and the service was spectacular. The ice cream and hot tea in the end was a nice touch too.

Yelp
Straightforward, yummy rice table. Ironically, the vegetarian choices were a bigger hit with me teenage boys than expected. Efficient service, comfortable unrushed. A really great way to try rice table.

Yelp
Everything delightfully familiar about Indonesian cuisine, from the small restaurant feel to the authentic, scrumptious dishes. The service was bomb and hosts very generous, seating us without a reservation and not rushing us out before the restaurant closed for the night!

Tina C.

Yelp
Go here and eat. Just do it. Trust me. The spices? The variety? The lime ice cream after? Perfection.

Yelp
The food was amazing, just like the service. We went with out a reservation but the made room for us. The staff was so accommodating and happy, it just made the experience even better. I recommend the item that's first on the menu, it serves two people and it's a little bit of everything, just amazing cuisine!!!

Yelp
This little restaurant serves up some delicious food. We had the variety menu (it has a special name that I don't remember)with samples of many different dishes. They were all delicious and only one was too spicy for my mid-west American palate. It was cash only the night we were there so we did have to dash over to the atm nearby. Our server was attentive and the whole experience was one of our top meals in Amsterdam.
google avatar

Mauli P.

Yelp
An absolute must go kind of place! All the food is so deliciously flavored, it was so hard to decide which was the best one. The service is exceptional and welcoming! We got ice cream and tea to top off our meal! Cozy interior with great ambiance. You can't skip out on this spot!

Yelp
Will write a longer review later, but hands down the best meal I've had in Amsterdam.

Yelp
I came in with a group of nine and they immediately sat us down and made room. They said we could only do the Ramayana menu with a group that large. We didn't mind trying it since it had a taste of many of there dishes. The chicken satay with peanut sauce was one of my favorite dishes, I used that sauced to add on the rest of my food and just elevate the flavor from the sweet and salty aspects of it. After we got done, we thought there was nothing else and they brought all of us a last round of ice cream, which was the perfect vanilla flavoring to end the night. They also brought the food out soon after we order without any wait. No one left hungry and we thought it was the best restaurant of the whole trip.

Yelp
We had heard so much about the rice table Indonesian food in Amsterdam and was very excited to try this place. When we arrived, there was a sign indicating they do not serve tap water...which is perfectly good in Amsterdam. We felt that was just forcing us to order bottle water. We ordered the Ramayana which offers 13 different dishes. Most of the dishes had similar tastes. Nothing exciting about any of the dishes. We were thinking maybe we've been spoiled by all the wonderful Asian food we have in Los Angeles? The service was also mediocre. Our waitress shuffled around the restaurant...it was just very odd.

Yelp
Overall tasty, but the "salad" is completely drenched by sauce, which seems to be the norm in the NL. A but heavy overall, but great to go with friends and to share things.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Great experience overall. We got there around 540, waited a bit - 20 min or so - for a table. Apparently you can make reservations. Would totally recommend.

Yelp
Excellent food, recommend their rice table or choice of rames. Small, cozy place with a line out the door, but worth the wait. Very hardworking, attentive and kind waitstaff. So good came back a second time during our trip. Very convenient to museum quarter hotels.

Yelp
Delicious rice table. Perfect size so that two people can sample 10 dishes without being overstuffed. Food was excellent.

Yelp
Good food with great service. Authentic Indonesian food. We enjoyed the "Rice table", Indonesian elaborate meal adapted by the Dutch. Everything is good. It comes with appetizers and dessert. Price is also reasonable.

Yelp
So happy that we stumbled upon this place!! Highly recommend making reservations as it gets very busy. Food is delicious and staff was helpful!! Definitely try the tasting menu.

Yelp
Best dinner!! Reservations recommended but we were able to walk in and get a table. The staff were very friendly, helped us decide what to order and it was two thumbs up! Sooooo good.

Yelp
This was my first time having Indonesian food and I think it has quickly become one of my favorite cuisines thanks to Kartika. The restaurant itself is pretty small and gets busy during dinner time, but there was never a long wait for anyone who walked in whenever we were inside. There were three of us there and we shared one of their set meals that came with 10 different dishes, as well as two generic starters of shrimp chips and regular chips. When the 10 dishes came out, our waitress explained what everything was, but I quickly forget it. Unfortunately I have no idea what I was eating the whole night, but I thoroughly enjoyed it all! This place is great for other adventurous people who like to try a lot of food at once and it has made me crave Indonesian food back home where the options are more limited.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant. Incredible staff. Delicious food. I did the Ramayana experience which sampled through many of the popular dishes in Indonesia. I would highly recommend this location!

Yelp
For a true Indonesian feast, Rijsttafel is an experience that simply cannot be missed when in the Netherlands. The word Rijsttafel means "rice table," and this is offered as a set menu that comes with a huge variety of different dishes, served along with white rice. At Kartika, the Ramayana Rijsttafel came with a dozen different traditional meat and vegetable dishes, so you really get to try the gamut of deliciously spiced Indonesian flavors. While we were waiting for the feast to arrive, we were started with baskets of shrimp chips and cassava chips, along with three homemade sauces: a creamy, savory peanut sauce; a sweet chili sauce; and a spicy sambal sauce! And then came the different Rijsttafel dishes all at once, and they were served on a metal tray with candles lit underneath to keep everything warm. My favorite dishes were the Sate Ayam, which were tender chicken skewers topped with decadent peanut sauce; and the Daging (Beef) Rendang, which were chunks of tender beef in a spicy coriander and coconut sauce. The Daging Semur was made of chunks of beef in soy sauce; the Ayam Bali was chicken in a spicy Balinese sauce; and the Ayam Kecap was chicken in a ginger and soy marinade. For the vegetarian dishes, the Gado Gado was a salad of cooked and raw vegetables, topped with more of the amazing homemade peanut sauce and cassava chips. The Tempe Bumbu Kecap was made of chunks of crispy tofu and creamy tempe in a ginger and soy sauce; the Sambal Goreng Buncis were green beans in a spicy coconut sauce; and the Sambal Goreng Telor were hard-boiled eggs, also in a spicy coconut sauce. The Sambal Goreng Kentang was a flavorful side dish of fried potatoes tossed in a spicy red chili sauce, and to round it all out were the Serundeng (roasted ground coconut for garnish) and Acar Campur (marinated cucumbers and carrots to refresh the palate). All the different sauces, meats, and vegetables went perfectly with the white rice that was served on the side, and though the number of dishes seemed overwhelming, many of the flavor profiles were similar or only had slight variations, so you could appreciate the similarities as well as the distinctions. Overall, this was an amazing feast of a meal, and it came along with friendly service, a great price (just 20 Euros per person), and a scoop of rum raisin ice cream as dessert!

Yelp
The Ramayana was super flavorful and filling. It was my first time having Indonesian food and certainly not the last. Our order consisted of a variety of meats and unique sauces. They have a vegetarian option as well. Loved our server! Note: cash only. There's an ATM across the street.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Oh my gosh my husband and I loved this place! The manager is a bit picky about how you enter, as they are an open patio. However he wants you to go through the door and wait in the hallway while masked, so that was a bit off putting at first. But they made up for it by giving great service and explaining Indonesian food, which we had never had. We got their version of a tasting menu and it was so tasty! Sort of a cross between Thai and Chinese. If you are in Amsterdam, get off the tourist track and try this little gem. Just make sure you go in the correct door and wait your turn ;)
google avatar

Liya P.

Yelp
The menu at Kartika gives you the option to either do a set menu or choose items a la carte. We opted for the set menu and loved the little dishes that came packed with flavor. I couldn't name all the dishes even if I tried, but they ranged from veggies to meat like chicken or beef. The sauces they came simmered in were salty, sweet, spicy, and just scrumptious. Highly recommend the Ramayana set menu!
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
So unique and delicious! We are from the Western US and have nothing like this. Service was great and you can tell they are very proud of their food.
google avatar

Kimmy U.

Yelp
Great deal for the amount and quality of food they give you! it is a small space, but you can make a reservation or walk in early They do not have a menu, so don't expect to order a la carte. Everyone gets a set menu and you can either choose one with meat or all vegetarian. This is all served family style! Even if you have a vegetarian in the group, there were still a lot of non-meat options. Each set comes with about 10 dishes, and there was more than enough food!! This was my first time having Indonesian food, and it reminded me a little of Thai and Malaysian. They go heavy on the coconut, so if you're not a fan.. you might not enjoy. But there's so many dishes to choose from, you'll probably like at least a few things served. Service was great and very attentive! You def can't beat this deal for 20 euros per person
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Just had lunch here. Average place. We had traditional Ramayana. It was a bit off putting to be told when we arrived at 5:30pm that our seat are only good until 7pm. Very strange. My partner wanted to try it, so we stayed. You basically get mini portions of various dishes, barely warm. However, they do place them on two rectangular trays which have lighted candle under them. I was so underwhelmed. I guess most of the positive reviews are from people unfamiliar with good Indonesian food. But food, like art, is subjective. We were also told they don't serve tap water. You have to buy it. Insane!!! Amsterdam city water is proudly sold at supermarkets here.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was right across from our hotel and we had heard Indonesian food is pretty good in Amsterdam so we thought we'd give it a try. Because it was high season, they only offered a set price tasting menu option. At first they brought us two types of crunchy "chips" with two sauces. Pretty yummy! Next were all of the meats and veggies accompanied by a big basket of rice. Overall, very tasty though many of them are spicy, so make sure to ask so you know which ones! For dessert they had fried bananas with powdered sugar which was also yummy and a fun touch, though they can out with everything else so by the time we got to them, they were a bit soggy. Overall it was a fun change of pace and good to try something new! Make sure to check about water too - we paid for bottled water but they'll do regular tap water, you just have to specify which we didn't know.

Yelp
First time having Indonesian food, but because of this experience, definitely not the last! Showed up at 630 pm on a Friday, and the place was almost full. Not to worry! Even though it's a sit down restaurant, things turned over quite quickly so please be patient. And honestly, given how easy the experience was, being patient was the least I could do! You have a choice of either the traditional or vegetarian options. We opted for the traditional, and waited to be amazed. The chips were tasty, and you have a choice of peanut, sweet, or spicy dipping sauce. The spicy definitely has some kick, and I don't recommend this for anyone who can only do mild. Like, you're gonna have a bad time. Spice lovers though, this is your jam. I also really loved the peanut sauce, but a girl's gotta pick one and I chose the spice life #noregrets. The main course was a series of small bowls, each filled with delicious, mouthwatering things. I won't list them all out, but will highlight the soy beef, two chicken dishes, chicken satay, and string beans as my favorites. I also really liked the potatoes, and remember them being the only really spicy option. Don't forget to sprinkle some of the roasted coconut over...like...everything. It's magic. Also! For people who love pickles, the side dish of pickles were really good. Very sour, but in a pucker-up-so-good kind of way. The meal ended with a small scoop of ice cream, which was alright. Honestly, it couldn't hold a candle to what we had. Also, the metal table helped keep everything warm while we ate. What an ingenious idea! Our amazing waiter was managing the entire place by himself, and although you could tell that he was working super hard (like seriously, non stop zipping around with drinks, dropping off food, the check, making sure everyone is happy and full, greeting guests, bussing tables, and wiping down mats...what CAN'T this man do???), he was the epitome of grace, welcome, and professionalism. I was astounded by the care and love he demonstrated to each guest. So don't be an impatient jerk to this man!! He doesn't deserve it!! Treat him with respect and enjoy!!!

Yelp
The best food we had on our trip. There was so much variety and service was great! Next time in Amsterdam I'll be back!

Yelp
The most amazing Indonesian culinary experience! Service was amazing - our server (I think his name was Michael) was incredibly hospitable and all of the dishes we got were amazing! We had a group of 1 vegetarian, 2 non vegetarians of which one ate beef and one did not. Our server was able to tailor the experience to create a meal that pleased us all! Of course there are 100% pure veg meals as well but since our party was a mix it was not an issue Service was very quick as well - we were in and out within 30-40 minutes!

Yelp
I was visiting our Amsterdam office and had just flown into town. My staff and I were feeling hungry so I popped out the Yelp app and looked for a nearby restaurant. Since Indonesian was once upon a time a Dutch colony, there was a fair amount of reverse influence which resulted in an excellent Indonesian culinary scene in Amsterdam, much like the Indian food scene in London. Kartika appeared to be one of the more popular and higher rated place nearby. It was that way for good reasons. The service was super friendly and quick and the food was delicious. To be honest, I was jet-lagged and very hungry so I have a hard time recalling the details of each dish. I just remember is was all good. Ordering was very easy if you are not familiar with Indonesian food. There are a number preset menus to choose from and you can't go wrong with any of them. We ordered the Ramayana, which was a sampling of 11 or 12 small dishes. I love the idea of being able to try so many dishes at one time. It's almost like a buffet or having tapas. When the food came out, the dishes were placed on sort of a warming plate with candles underneath. It didn't really do much to warm the plates; but, it was a neat idea. The spiciness of the food was toned down somewhat and the dishes were not quite as hot and the Indonesian food I am used to; but, that was perfectly fine with me. Kartika is a little ways away from the city center; but, it easily accessible via the metro. It's definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Quirky staff, if you can get past that, they are extremely courteous and hard working. While waiting for a table, there is a sign that clearly says where to wait. If you cross it, the staff will ask you to move back. I liked this, because if I was seated close to the door, I wouldn't want people breathing down my neck while I'm eating. People often end up coughing and sneezing, it's a kindness that the staff is so diligent with asking people to stay back until seated. We had bottled water, but they told us not to drink it. I didn't love this. But I assume their food prices are based on them making a little off the drinks. We ordered a couple of Indonesian beers, which were good. After dessert, he brought us some free bottled water with lemon. They had me order before I could be seated, which I appreciate, because we have allergies that they may not have been able to work around. So it was nice to not have to walk out. All in all, it's very different. I'm from Miami, and I'm not used to this. Even by European standards, it was quirky. But the service level was honestly a notch above most restaurants in the UK and Europe that I've visited. They were just genuinely nice, but they had a few rules. The food was all good. It tasted like a grandma made it, which is great! The only thing is that some things tasted overcooked. Like the hard boiled eggs, they were very well done. If you don't mind a few rules this is a great place!

Yelp
Very interesting way to get a table..? We walked into the restaurant around 6:30pm. They still had a good amount of tables open. We were told everything was reserved for 7:30pm tables. Our local friend spoke to the host in Dutch and then suddenly he changed his mind. We were now told if we ate quickly and did the prefix meal, it could work out.. So tada! We got a table? Throughout dinner, other people walked in and were told the same thing, but now the time changed to 8:30pm! It's like keeping a line outside an empty nightclub just to build the hype.. Weird, but sure.. Towards the end of our meal, it did fill up quite a bit. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Quick to refill water and bring anything we needed. The prefix dinner had about 12 different dishes with all types of protein: beef, tofu, chicken, etc. You can also request the vegetarian prefix meal. My favorite was the chicken skewers, beef stew, and salad. It comes with a dried and shredded coconut to sprinkle on everything, super delicious! I mixed it with the rice and potatoes. Finish everything off with coconut ice cream, green tea sponge cake, and hot tea. Definitely worth a try if you're in Amsterdam. Good luck getting a table?

Yelp
We randomly selected a place for dinner and came by this restaurant. The restaurant is small and is very busy. It might be hard to get seats for a party bigger than 4. We had a party of 5 and was lucky to get seats. Since this was our first time here and first time having Indonesian food, we asked the staff for recommendations. They recommended the Ramayana. It was definitely a good choice. It came with rice, 9 mini bowls of entrées and 1 dessert. We get to taste all the different flavors of food. The Staffs even explained and describe all the different food offered in this set. PS - The iced tea was also pretty good.

Yelp
We ordered the Shinta for 2 people at Kartika, which included 14 little sample dishes and cost 18 euros per person. Almost all dishes tasted great although my favorite were the fried spicy potatoes and bamboo shoots salad. It is a great way to try a new cuisine and not have to order large dishes without knowing what you'll get. I am not super familiar with Indonesian food so cant comment deeply on authenticity, but the food was tasty and staff was friendly. The artwork around looked pretty authentic and added to the ambience. They did tell us we had 1.5 hours when we were starting. We started at 7 pm and were done by 7:45 pm. The potions are fixed - it is not a buffet - so I think 1.5 hours is totally fair for the experience.

Yelp
We ate at Kartika in our last night in Amsterdam and I'm so glad we did. We arrived at 9:30pm and had no wait and were happily seated by our waiter. Knowing we don't have much in terms of Indonesian food back home I came here specifically to try the 12 or so dishes accompanied with rice. This meal did not disappoint as it included chicken, beef, tofu, salad, and so much more. My favorite was probably the beef stew - hands down, but just about everything was delicious (just not a fan of tofu). They even included fried bananas for dessert. Before asking for the check we were offered housemade mango sorbet which was very good as well. I had read previous reviews about long wait times and rude service but we didn't experience either. The service was wonderful - the only hiccup was we had a waiter in training who would describe each dish but then his boss would politely correct him since he seemed to mixup a few of them to us. For anyone in the area looking to try Indonesian food, this was a definite bang-for-your-buck type of experience.

Yelp
Truely an unique Indonesian experience that you can not pass up while you are in Amsterdam! I had no idea Amsterdam had great Indonesian food until I learned that it was a Dutch colonize from the multitude of museums in tours in the area so I was pretty excited to get as close to authentic Indonesian food as I could while in Western Europe. We came here for dinner around 5pm, which was extremely early for dinner. However, I was glad we got a seat before the dinner rush! The restaurant isn't big and there is only in door seating so definitely get there early if you want a seat. The experience was very unique and I think it's important for people to understand that this is closer to a food-experience than a restaurant. Why? The first thing the waiter tells us is that there's a set menu: regular (includes chicken and beef) and vegetarian. The regular set does have vegetarian dishes though it does pose a difficult situation if you are a group that has different food preferences. We (table of 2) were asked to chose only one set menu but I feel like you might be able to order two set menu options if you had a bigger group. Also, probably because of the seating restraint, they limit your visit to an hour and a half (1.5 hours). I thought it was plenty of time to eat everything and enjoy the meal at my own pace but it is something to keep in mind if you are a group that likes to take their time and chat around. I loved the Satay chicken and the tofu dishes. The fried banana was a nice dessert at the end as well. Our waiter also gave us complimentary chocolate chip ice cream which was nice. The set menu was around 18.50 which wasn't bad considering you can sample 11 dishes. It takes out the anxiety of choosing a dish and allows you to sample flavors you might not have otherwise ordered.

Yelp
My wife and I dined here on a Tuesday night and it was very busy! There was a 20 minute wait outside, but once seated service was good. The good here is excellent! We had the ramanya meal, which has a selection of very nice veggie and meat dishes. Our favourite was coriander beef or soy beef. The banana fritter was the only dish we didn't enjoy, but we don't usually go for desserts anyway. Bottles of Bintang lager were €4,60 each. Service could have been better as was very busy, but the food was so good!

Yelp
We definitely didn't understand the menu here which is basically a 10 dish prefix menu. Somehow they allowed us to do the meat and vegetarian plate (a combo of both). The service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a rush. However they were super friendly and even took a picture for us! All the dishes were extremely flavorful and we left very full despite the dishes looking very small. I enjoyed the spicy potatoes and some house chicken dish the best, but everything was really good. I would definitely come back here as there's nothing like this in the States by where I live.

Yelp
Decided to check this place out since I've heard Amsterdam has really good Indonesian food and I've never had Indonesian food before. We arrived and realized it was a fixed menu with a variety dishes. We though we were going to be able to order off of a menu but that's not how it works. We were told we had two options vegetarian or non vegetarian. We told the gentlman that we had one vegetarian and he said you have to choose one. He was a bit curt but I just think that's his personality . Just a little different and maybe cultural difference. We tried to look past it and not let it determine out decision if we were going to stay or not. We stepped outside to talk and we decided to get vegetarian since the vegetarian doesn't eat meat . We sat down and were immediately welcomed again and drinks brought out right away. When our dishes began to come out the gentleman told use he was going to switch out a couple of the dishes with non vegetarian dishes so the meat eaters could try some of the dishes . That was very nice of him. The food was great and it was a really cool expierence. Definitly a place to try out.

Yelp
Amazing service from our server Michael along with delicious & authentic Indonesian dishes. We had vegetarian rijsttafel which was super tasty & very filling - especially the tofu satay and jackfruit. Great value at €19/pp. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
The Good: :: it's a local business :: ambiance is great--very casual :: food is absolutely delicious and authentic. You get a medley of small servings of a variety of things. There something for everyone! Everything is so flavorful and perfectly cooked. My favorites were the stewed beef and chicken dishes, as well as the skewers. :: they offer a vegetarian and non-vegetarian version of the main offering :: the coconut ice cream was so delicious! :: service was very friendly :: they take all major credit cards, which is helpful since a lot of establishments don't take anything other than the Maestro card The Bad: :: it can get really really busy here...be prepared to wait The Ugly: :: none Would I go back? Most definitely yes--for some delicious authentic Indonesian food at an affordable price, you can't go wrong. This place is IN.
