21 Best Restaurants in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"At Kasalta, a casual bakery and diner, glass display cases house luscious-looking pastries. Expect typical Puerto Rican diner food: meaty, oversized sandwiches, all-day breakfast plates, homemade empanadas, and hearty bowls of soup. The thing to get here is the ham and cheese on sweet Mallorca bread, the perfect interplay of creamy, salty, and sweet. For dessert, don't miss the the guava pastelitos, quesitos (cream cheese puffs), and pistachio tres leches." - Kris Fordham

This place is a great local spot. They have their operational procedures down. The food is spectacular, and the coffee is great too. I had the Cuban and an Americano. Their pastry case filled with sweets was tempting, too. The place was always filled with people coming and going but it never felt crowded. I would highly recommend coming in for a visit.

This place looked charming, and with such a large menu, we walked in with high expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the warm hospitality we’d experienced elsewhere on the island. The service felt a bit cold, and the food followed suit. I ordered the Mallorca with bacon and cheese, but it was overly dusted with powdered sugar, and the amount of cheese—about 10 slices—was just overwhelming. I also tried the bread pudding, hoping for a nostalgic taste from my childhood, but it fell flat and lacked the richness I remembered. It’s a beautiful spot with potential, but sadly, our experience didn’t match the promise.

This is a great spot for both savory foods, like sandwiches, and sweet foods, like pastries! There were two of us, so we were able to split up and wait in both lines at the same time which was useful for saving time. The lines didn’t move very quickly, but it wasn’t too bad of a wait. All of the food, sweet and savory, was delicious! The sandwich on Mallorca bread was unique, and I’m glad we tried it!

This place is iconic in Puerto Rico, given that President Obama had a Cubano here. The best quesitos in town. Awesome breakfast sandwiches: cubanos OR jam, eggs and cheese. All pastries are to die for. The coffee is good. Just make sure you try the natural orange juice.

I had a sandwich and coffee and my husband had a mallorca. The sandwich was really good. It is a little pricier than other bakeries but the food is really good and I would recommend. We will come back. It wasn't as busy as other bakeries as well which was good.

First off let me tell you. This place can get busy and feel disorganized but it is such a thrill to experience. The richness in culture is thick, the food is hella authentic, and the people are openly straightforward (my favorite). When ever I get into town I always stop at Kasalta. For the last 4 years it’s been a joy to walk in, receive love and appreciation… and get some of the best guayaba in town. Today I got the Bistec Sandwich and a Pastel de Guayaba. La unica tia helped me today. She knows who she is ;) Would highly recommend if you’re in ocean park, or going to travel the rest of the island and need some grab and goes for the road. Don’t skip the coffee it’s very strong. Fuerte como la gente. Suave!

Kasalta is a piece of home away from home. The soup was both delicious and comforting. We also had the codito (macaroni) salad and a flan de queso and coco. Yum, yum, yum. Great service and clean atmosphere!!
