Kashin Japanese Restaurant

Google
Much cuter than it should be given that it's in the Crossroads and has a strip mall exterior. Friendly staff and quick service, the quality of the fish here is very good. Even though I live downtown and have options for sushi, I drive here for the quality. Had the sushi lunch special today and it was definitely worth the price!

A Cozy Japanese Gem I went to this Japanese restaurant on my own and had such a lovely experience. As soon as I walked in, the cozy atmosphere made me feel welcomed—even though the place was full, they accommodated me quickly near the bar where I could watch the chef prepare sushi. The staff was attentive, and I got exactly what I wanted. The portions were generous—I even had to take most of it home! Everything tasted fresh and well-made. Prices matched the quality and quantity, and I’m definitely coming back. A beautiful solo dining moment that turned into a little highlight of my day.

Google
Very nice server and cozy atmosphere. The sushi was amazing especially with some Asahi. I recommend trying the traditional specialty rolls I thought they were really good.

Carlos Ortiz N.

Google
My server was amazing and the sushi chef, Jesus was very helpful and gave excellent recommendations. Atmosphere was authentic and comforting.

Google
Authentic Japanese food with a truly welcoming touch. The young lady who served us was so kind and patient, taking time to explain each dish with care. She even brought us a gluten-free menu to choose from. The owners’ kindness and sincerity made the experience even more special. We’ll definitely be coming back again soon. Arigatou gozaimas!

Google
This was a super cute restaurant. Food was great! Traditional Japanese food (sushi, tempura, katsu, ramen/udon, teriyaki, etc.) plus they've partnered with a poke bowl place so they also have poke! I got the Over the Rainbow poke bowl. My mom got donteri(?) Both were excellent. Miso soup was great! Salad dressing is the more sour version of ginger dressing. Parking is pretty easy, and there's a lot of it, though if it's a super busy night, you might have to park behind the building.

Google
We enjoyed trying this new gem that we discovered. From the moment we walked in the door, we actually thought it was a poke restaurant. We quickly realize that there’s also Sushi here! We were greeted fairly promptly and the atmosphere was good. The place is a little small and service took a while. But food was delicious and we really enjoyed our experience. I would recommend anyone looking for a good Poké or a sushi place to give this small gem a try! My favorite roll was the one they grilled! Unfortunately I don’t remember the name, but I will post a few pictures and videos below! It is a little bit on the price your side, but certainly worth trying at least once. We do plan on coming back.

Google
I really enjoyed dinner here! I got here at about 5:10 and within an hour they were busy. The customer service was amazing! And the food was too. Literally the best katsudon I’ve had in NC! Will definitely be back to have dinner again soon!

Yelp
We moved here 2 years ago from Los Angeles, I I grew up on japanese home cooking and this place reminded me of it :) We've been to so many japanese restaraunts out here, and nearly gave up hope of trying new places until tonight and very happy we stopped in. Definitely going to be a regular.

Yelp
Loved the whole experience here. I came with my wife and our young daughter (4 years old). The server was very sweet to her and even brought out a to-go cup with water, such a thoughtful gesture. The interior felt just like the small corner restaurants I grew up with in Japan, but a bit cleaner and more polished. Zaru Udon was one of my favorite dishes growing up, and Kashin delivered a nostalgic, comforting experience. Thank you! The yellowtail was also spot on, fresh and flavorful. For dessert, we had the sakura mochi. Loved, loved it. Sweet, warm, and perfectly gooey. Just perfect.

Yelp
My elderly, Japanese mother enjoys, going to Kashi on Saturdays for authentic Japanese food. Everything is at the highest quality in the service is attentive. We love it.

Rw F.

Yelp
Good Japanese food with affordable prices. The decor is typical of American Japanese restaurants but come for the food and service. Some of the seaweed tasted off but that wasn't an issue as the fish and rice were so good. If I'm in the area, I'll be coming back
google avatar

Meg L.

Yelp
Really loved the miso soup and salad that comes with the entree. It was pretty busy on the weekend so would recommend making a reservation. Our favorite was the house dessert and the poke bowl. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Six years later and this place is still my favorite sushi restaurant in the triangle. It's not fancy but if you want authentic Japanese food, this is the only truly Japanese restaurant in the area. Food is always fresh and flavorful. Service is beyond excellent. Nothing but friendly faces and attentive staff. Chawanmushi is a must try, traditional Japanese dish and this place does it right. Smooth and jam packed with flavor. And the Chirashi is my go to dish so I can have a little bit of everything on a bed of sushi rice. If you are a sushi lover in the triangle and you haven't been to Kashin, I don't know what you're doing. Again, it's not all fancy like some other joints in Raleigh and Durham but if you want good food, look no further.

Yelp
Always come back to Kashin Japanese family style food, some like chawanmushi and ochazuke are not easy find in other Japanese restaurants. We also ordered soft shell crab appetizier, my always go-to wherever there is one plum shiso roll, chef's choice 5 sashimi (15pcs - red meat tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snapper, escolar), and a shoyu ramen. This is not the finding a gem good, but the good as I will return when I cannot find another new place to try. Comfort Japanese food with fair price (consider inflation), Kashin is like a Japanese diner for me.

Betina Hinnant H.

Yelp
This is our favorite sushi/poke restaurant in Cary. The "make your own" poke bowl is terrific- love the matcha rice. The noodle bowls are great too!
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Japanese Sashimi is delicious.Kachin is a modest place. The sashimi here is tender, and delicious. It's so fresh. They offer several choices. The deluxe sashimi meal is the way to go.

Wesley A.

Yelp
I had the eel roll and the typhoon roll. Hands down the best sushi I've ever had. The typhoon roll has so much flavor it blew my mind!

Yelp
One of the few Asian places that earned my five stars. Come in and you are greeted by friendly staff that will show you to your table. You can choose to sit at the bar where you can watch your meal being prepared in front of you. The bar filled up quick the night I went. Kashin aims to be as authentic as it can in its Japanese cuisine. The staff did a great job. My sushi dinner was presented well and had the type of wasabi I liked. Mom's tempura was crunchy. The seafood was fresh. It had the look and feel of the kind I'd find at the real deal in Japan. They had a bottle of Asahi too. I'm happy to say my experience brought back memories of my trip. Arigato!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Awesome awesome awesome. Walked in the door and to my right was a table over 8+ Asian men having dinner. That is a great sign. Place is small and cozy with typical Asian restaurant decor. I set at the sushi after a spot was vacated and cleaned up. I experimented with a Ten-Don Meal which was delicious and a Aburi Salmon roll that was possibly my favorite American style roll ever. Oh my goodness. It was delectable. I would have gotten another if I had not ordered the Ten-Don. Great little family owned place. A definite stop next trip.
google avatar

Darby S.

Yelp
Plain hole in the walls didn't have normal dragon but the numbered roll I had was similar to what I consider a dragon. Sorry can't remember specifics. There was a female sushi chef and the owner is a female. For that reason and the sushi was good enough, I'll return.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Wait time: 2/5 Price: $$ - $$$ I visited a 2nd time with family. We always arrive the moment dinner time begins because the restaurant fills up very quickly. The food here is delicious almost all around. You can't really go wrong with any of the nigiri, rolls, or small dishes. They use fresh cuts of fish. We chose the following items: * (5/5) Maguro Yamakake * (4.5/5) Assorted Deluxe Sushi Dinner * (4.5/5) Alaskan Roll * (4/5) Spider Roll * (4/5) Beef Tataki A complaint of ours was the wait time for kitchen-prepared food, again. Unfortunately, there was only 1 chef in the kitchen during both visits and an almost full restaurant (albeit small). It caused a long wait time for food to be served, which was difficult to endure since we were hungry. A positive note is that the server let us know an estimate time to wait if we ordered anything further mid-meal (could be 20+ minute wait). Overall, tasty Japanese food and kind servers and sushi chef.

Yajaira G.

Yelp
The service is horrible, they are not nice at all, they take so so long to give you the food and the food was just nasty.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
Nothing fancy or flashy just quality food and great service. I still love this place. I got the Rainbow roll for lunch. Fish slices are thicker than most other places. Flavor was great!
google avatar

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for the first time tonight and we had an amazing experience! The service was amazing, the staff made us feel super welcome! The restaurant is smaller but I prefer that to a larger restaurant, it felt very intimate. The food was so yummy! We got sushi, ramen, dumplings, and the house dessert and everything was wonderful. The dessert was my favorite thing ever!!! Loved it so much!!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious authentic traditional Japanese Cuisine. Delivery was fast and accurate thtough DoorDash. The Sunumono mix was fresh and crispy cucumber with seaweed and an assortment of seafood. The spider was softshell crab in a nice roll. I recommend this Excellent Lunch choice.

Aimee N.

Yelp
I am so glad that I found this little gem. I found this on Yelp and I am so pleased. This is one of my favorite type of restaurants. The kind that you would never know how amazing it is from the outside. Nestled in a shopping center, you walk into a sushi heaven. The sashimi quality was top notch I had the lunch sashimi which was served with their house salad with ginger dressing (absolutely perfect dressing). It was also served with a miso soup and white rice. There were 8 nice size pieces of a variety of chefs picks. Service was great and place was clean. I loved it and would be back all the time if I lived here. I think this would be my go to lunch spot.

Yelp
I've been to this place before, except it was in Jamestown, NY; Duxbury, MA; Atlanta, GA...in other words, like a thousand other sushi joints. Nothing really special, but they do offer a pretty nice selection of sakis and the food was good. I'd eat here again.

Kim B.

Yelp
Our first time at Kashin. Sushi was delicious. All very fresh. Our sever was attentive the entire time. Hope to go back next time we make a trip to Cary.

James B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our dinner at Kashin. Two thumbs up, or 5 stars! They pay real attention to the quality of the food.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
The food was Great and authentic. I lived in Japan and finding a place where I can go and enjoy all the flavors and choices. Noodles are great, Udon is one of my favorites. From Tonkatsu to Katsudon--it's delicious. The sushi is fresh and if you're alone, just sitting at the bar while they make it is delightful. They even have green tea ice cream! It's delicious and fun. The service was pleasant and hearing the Japanese phrases were music to my ears. They even have a party room with seating on the floor--call to reserve in advance. I'm planning my next birthday there.

A G.

Yelp
Best sushi place in town. Almost didn't want to post a 5 star review for fear of people catching on and making it harder to get a table here! But it's well deserved and the wait staff are excellent.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
The service and food were top tier. I sat at the sushi counter and got two rolls that were very delicious. Everything was quick, the place was clean and I look forward to going back

Molly C.

Yelp
I got a california and spicy tuna roll and my boyfriend got the lobster roll. I liked my rolls, but my boyfriend didn't think his lobster was any good. I was sitting at the bar and the people making the sushi were talking about things that I didn't want to hear about as a customer... It felt like a long wait for the sushi despite there being not many people there, but overall I enjoyed my meal.
google avatar

Kobe B.

Yelp
Kashin is good for a date night or dinner with a friend. However, there is limited seating so not good for groups. Additionally, I did find the pricing to be a bit steep compared to similar restaurants. Food was pretty good, but the salmon roll and sushi roll with lemon I got were nothing special. I did get the matcha cheesecake, which was also good but had a little too much matcha powder dusted on it. Service was good, as well.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Great katsudon--I've lived in Japan (and am half Japanese) and the food here is authentic and quite good. When I brought my mom (who is Japanese) for the first time to Raleigh, I brought her here for sushi and authentic Japanese cuisine--and she very much approved. Staff is always friendly, service is good. And of course the food is awesome. Some staff members are Japanese--so mom had fun chatting with the staff (and likely making fun of me, but that's another story lol). Sometimes if they're packed the wait can be a bit long, but that's just because everyone else is ordering the excellent food. Every date I've brought to this restaurant have been impressed.
google avatar

Adriele B.

Yelp
Really great sushi! I had the Alaska Roll and Dinamite. Both delicious! The place is very cute and the service was great.

Chris C.

Yelp
Kashin is always top-notch! Date night for us and they did not disappoint. Sushi was excellent and the staff was super attentive! I regret not trying the special curry dish, but my heart was set on sushi! Go taste for yourself and enjoy this gem of a restaurant. The atmosphere in this dinning room radiates the feeling of "at home".

Yelp
Hidden gem! I guess hidden for some, I live in Cary, which is so large that the "new Cary " is suffering from growing pains, and has totally crap food. Anyways, I digress, and am just sad that this place is in Cary, but literally 20 minutes from my house, because I wish it was across the street. Small little place, very unassuming in a strip mall next to 4 other restaurants, and when we walked in, I was very hesitant, as we were now 1 of 2 tables in the joint, but probably only like 12 tables in all. The server was very nice, and we went old school and each had a large Sapporo to start. We had a couple simple apps, edamame, and gyoza, but wish I had some of the other apps which looked plentiful and delicious, because the were perfect. They have a dinner menu that pretty much has something for everyone. 4 of us, and the guys were in mood for noodles, girls sushi. I had the Shoyu ramen, and my buddy had the Miso ramen. Very impressed with the ramen. Mine came with a poached egg, which I love, and the flavor was amazing. My millennial friends swear by Dashi in Durham, but this flavor blew it out of the water. My buddy loved his Miso ramen, and said it actually had a pretty good spicy kick. I can't say much for the sushi, except the presentation, as I didn't have any, but our dates said it was very good. Unfortunately, I will not be back soon, as it is too far, and I am too busy to spend 1.5 hours of my day driving to and fro for a meal, normally. But, I would highly recommend that if you are in the area, definitely eat here. Delicious!
google avatar

Sungmin S.

Yelp
- Katsudon and nabeyaki were delicious - sushi was of great disappointment - spicy tuna roll used siracha and quite flavorless, uni was not fresh - our waitress was very sweet, but we never got soy sauce for our sushi I am not sure if I would come back anytime soon.
google avatar

Lucy Q.

Yelp
This is a review for takeout. I got the mackerel lunch and the portion was really small for the price ($14). Considering mackerel itself is a small fish and relatively cheap, was disappointing to see not even a whole filet. What's pictured is my takeout portion. A friend ordered the same thing and theirs was even smaller. I don't know if it was an off day but I definitely had to get a second lunch after.

Yelp
Well when family came to visit this Easter and we couldn't decide on what type of post meal to prepare... naturally we relied on our love of sushi. First, we ordered the extra ginger and edamame they're a way too reasonable price, and such great palette cleansers. The separate containers for the ginger were great for using later too. Sashimi is my main spotlight here the salmon was fresh, buttery and filling slices were given. I like to try the Salmon and Squid each place I go, and really can't recommend the Salmon here enough! I might have snuck some from the chefs box as well... Everyone else really enjoyed their rolls- they were so filling and didn't rely on too much rice, and were tightly formed- is it not annoying if your roll falls apart not a problem here at all- thanks Kashin. This spread was for 5-6 people and it did the job perfectly Thanks so much for the quick delivery and delicious food. Will be back soon. xoxo Doms

Yelp
This has always been my "go to" for Japanese food and poké. It's consistent and delicious. I highly recommend!!

Yelp
Kashin was recommended to us so we decided to give it a whirl. We were a little hesitant when we drove into the Crossroads plaza and found that it was in a corner next to a Subway. Once we entered, we felt like we were in a great little Japanese restaurant. It was early Saturday evening and every table was full. We sat at the sushi bar. The sushi rolls are pretty standard, but delicious. We ordered beef tataki, aburi salmon nigiri (which was the special that day- yum!), the crunchy roll, and a variety of nigiri. The sushi chef, our server, and the host were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We noticed that everyone in the restaurant ordered the noodles. We will definitely need to try those on our next visit.
google avatar

Vivian W.

Yelp
We had lunch at this crossroad plaza sushi place, First all, they don't have white sauce for teriyaki, the second, we need a to go box for noodle soup, but the lid can't seal the box, I asked another time, they brought another one didn't fit too. By the way, the price is weigh higher than the similar restaurants and taste average.
google avatar

Sammi W.

Yelp
we made reservations here as we were told the seating was quite limited & i would recommend that if you have a larger party. the atmosphere was very peaceful & i loved the calm yet tasteful music choice they played (mix of kpop & jpop)! we ordered a few appetizers, two takoyaki & one beef tataki. the takoyaki was very delicious that we had to order two (each had six per order) while the beef tataki was a bit tougher to chew compared to other places. it did take about 30 minutes for our meals to arrive, given that it was lunar new year, however, everything was so well made & scrumptious! we had ordered a hana lychee sake, which they seemed to have forgotten to put in, but it was brought out shorty after we mentioned it. overall, the food left a great umami flavor but the service was a little lacking. there weren't too many other tables while we were there but noticed many take-out orders so it's understandable. we were a party of five & the tip was included in the bill. i definitely think arriving shorty after they open in the evening is great if you want a peaceful dinner. it was a bit of a drive for us so if we're in the area next time, we wouldn't mind coming back again to try other dishes!

EJ S.

Yelp
Got delivery. Ordered the chirashi dinner. Was very disappointed. Seemed like I got the scraps of leftover fish as half of the sashimi was inedible- couldn't even chew the pieces- and had to throw it out. There were maybe 6 pieces of fish total so was not a good meal- almost $40. i don't know if they don't care as much for delivery customers but I'd never go there in person.

Yelp
With the lost of Sushi Tsune, I am sad to say Kashin might the only family style Japanese restaurant around. (Please let me know if you know other ones!) So given that context. I rated this restaurant hoping to keep it around. And since it's a family restaurant, get something that's homey! My go to are the simple rolls, katsu don, or any other don (rice bowl). I had the grill mackerel lunch and it was absolutely delicious. And I probably won't get the sashimi set... Overall, a cozy restaurant with many to offer!
google avatar

Adonis L.

Yelp
This was my second time I had the plastic wrap in my Nagasaki. I had called them and complained once in March. But seems like nothing has changed. Food hygiene is a problem.

Nathan W.

Yelp
good stuff! Crab stick was the best I've had, and the miso ramen was great as well! Our salmon appetizer was a little burnt but not a big deal. Service was nice too.

Mary M.

Yelp
Food is good but they cannot handle running two restaurants: sushi and poke. Took 30 minutes past the time my takeout order was supposed to be ready for me to get my food. Will find another sushi place for takeout.

Carole M.

Yelp
Best Japanese food in the area. Tonight was the fourth time we've eaten at Kashin, and once again everything was great. It was busy on a Thursday, but we were seated fairly quickly by a friendly server. The Miso Ramen was delicious - great broth, tender pork and lots of tasty bits. Tempura was the best I've ever had - the batter is fluffy and light and the shrimp literally melts in your mouth. The Chicken Teryaki arrives on a sizzling platter with a generous amount of tasty sauce and is tender and juicy. Honestly never had a single dish that wasn't better than every other Japanese restaurant we've tried. We'll be back.

Yelp
The sushi at Kashin is fresh and delicious. Kashin is tucked away in a little shopping stretch by Cold Stone in Crossroads. You go through a little curtain as you step inside and the dinner hours are normally 5:30-9. There is a room on the left in traditional Japanese style where you sit on the floor. There are a few tables and then the sushi bar on the left. The decor is minimal. You pick the sushi items and then mark off what you would like. As you are seated, you will receive a nice hot towel to refresh and clean your hands. Our waiter recommended the Aburi to start and it was a seared salmon sushi bite with a creamy yellow sauce. For sushi we loved the Dragon roll, salmon roll and eel. We also had sashimi and the fish was very fresh. The prices are also very reasonable and I will come here again. It is a very unassuming restaurant and was impressed by the quality and service.

Whodis B.

Yelp
Don't come in a group of more than 4! The restaurant is VERY small. I came in on a Wednesday around 6pm and most of the tables were empty but we were told that our party of 6 would have to sit at separate 4 person tables. We were so lucky that these two very kind people offered to move so that we could have their smaller table to push next to another table to fit the 6 of us. Thank you so much to those two people, it was really appreciated!! Other than that, the food was very good and prices are decent. I would love to come again but with less people.
google avatar

Mary Ellen G.

Yelp
Very small unassuming restaurant but the food was wonderful! Huge selection of Sushi. Poke and traditional cooked entrees. Our party enjoyed all we ordered Staff very friendly with great service. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Jo T.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Hearty portions of fish for the nigiri and real mochi which was fabulous. It made me miss Japan!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
WOW. This place, although very small in size, serves up amazing food, with very fitting/cultural decor. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the elevated room in the corner meant for serving private parties, but on the floor! This reminds me so much of eating at home at a small Korean table...close and personal! Was in the mood for sushi prior to arriving, but got here and settled for the Kotdonsu (...I think?), which is a rice bowl covered with a cooked egg, pork cutlet, and cooked onions. It may not sound very intriguing for many, but I found it to be extremely delicious! I'm glad I decided to try something new rather than just stick to the status quo of my choice in Japanese restaurants... My boyfriend got the Udon, with chicken and shrimp. And with a couple sips and tastes, even his food was delicious! And paired with the veggie and shrimp appetizer, it was perfect. The service was friendly and quick, but our waitress disappeared halfway through our meal. And most people would get upset at this. However, as a former server of a family-owned business myself, I've done this and understand it completely. So I was in no way offended. DEFINITELY recommend for anyone trying something new in the Cary area!
