The 31 Best Restaurants in Kolkata (Calcutta), India | Eater

"Situated in the bustling New Market area, Kasturi is packed most days. The kitchen serves Bangladesh’s Dhakai food, distinguished by robust flavors and the bold use of mustard and chiles. The menu features different kinds of bhorta (various ingredients spiced and mashed) and shile bata (spiced chicken or dried fish, ground into a paste on a grinding stone), Dhaka’s famed morog (cock) pulao, and a rich bhetki bhapa (thick slabs of sea bass slathered with a mustard-based marinade and baked in foil boxes). But the star dish is kochupata chingri, taro leaves and tiny prawns cooked together in pungent mustard paste and finished with lashings of sharp mustard oil." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

We visited Kasturi for lunch, and overall it was an average experience — not too good, not too bad. We ordered the veg thali, kachupata chingri bhappa, and aar begun bori diye macher jhol. The veg thali was good, similar to what you get in other Bengali restaurants — nothing particularly special. However, the real highlight was the kachupata chingri. It tasted amazing and was definitely the star of the meal. I would strongly recommend that everyone visiting Kasturi should try this dish at least once. On the other hand, I personally didn’t like the aar macher jhol. The taste was below average and didn’t meet my expectations. One area for improvement is the staff behavior — they need to be more respectful and attentive to customers. Otherwise, it was a decent experience overall.

I had ordered Chicken Dak Bungalow this afternoon from Kasturi Restaurant via Zomato, as an emergency meal after my home-cooked curry got burnt. I was genuinely disappointed by what I received. Despite paying ₹244, the quantity of gravy provided was shockingly low—barely enough for a few spoonfuls of rice. This is simply not acceptable from an established restaurant. Moreover, the hygiene of the dish was quite poor, which is extremely disappointing. The chicken pieces and taste were decent, but that does not make up for the unhygienic presentation and lack of value for money. A reputed outlet like Kasturi should uphold better quality standards—both in terms of quantity and hygiene. Sadly, this experience has made me hesitant to order again and I would not recommend based on this order.

I used to go to this restaurant sometimes., I found out from someone I know at the restaurant,They have been treating their employees very badly for few months..Which will have an impact on their food quality in the future..They didn't even pay their employees' salaries...It is very striking from a social and human perspective..I will request to kasturi owner Bishal saha to solve this problem as possible & talk to management about this problem..👍

If you want to satisfy your tastebuds with authentic bengali food then it's the right place. We like the diamond fish fry most. Enjoy the fish dishes only.

Went to katsuri to taste Bengali cuisine and it was very tasty. We had the jumbo prawn malaicurry and the shrimp in taro leaves, both were delicious but the shrimp was slightly on the small side for a jumbo. Unfortunately they didn't have the shrimp cutlets that we were really looking forward to tasting, as well as the medium shrimp curry. Also, we asked which cold drinks they had and they offered an option that we accepted (lime soda) and they ended up charging us the price of a fresh juice and not the price on the menu for the "cold drinks" when we asked what they had. They should've said they didn't have any cold drinks and that they had x, y & z fresh juice and that they're more expensive.

Authentic Bengali dishes with authentic taste. The interior is okish. We went there for an aiburovat ceremony. Their arrangement for that ceremony is too satisfying. The taste of the items included in the special iburovat thali is nice. Rather than that we order Dhakai Murgh Pulao. It is also tasty. Overall a good experience with well behaved staff.
