Kate Weiser Chocolate’s Beautiful Confections Hit Fort Worth Today | Eater Dallas

"A handcrafted chocolate shop known for beautifully hand-painted bonbons and other in-house confections has opened a Fort Worth storefront at 5182 Marathon Avenue in the Shops at Clearfork. The proprietor, a former executive chocolatier at Chocolate Secrets in Oak Lawn, grew the business from making chocolates at home with support from the Trinity Groves incubator and now produces nearly 18,000 bonbons per week; this is the first concept from Trinity Groves to expand into a second stand-alone location. The shop offers 26 signature bonbon flavors—including strawberry basil, mango habanero, sweet potato, and red wine & berries—alongside candy bars, caramels, desserts, ice cream, and seasonal items such as chocolate skulls and filled pumpkins for Halloween and “Carl the Snowman,” a dark chocolate shell filled with powdered drinking chocolate mix and mini marshmallows, in winter. Store hours are Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–9 p.m. and Sunday noon–6 p.m." - Alaena Hostetter

"Kate Weiser Chocolate, known for its beautifully painted chocolate confections and elevated ice cream dishes, is opening a third outpost at the Shops at Clearfork this September. The new 600 square-foot Fort Worth location will offer bonbons in 26 flavors, candy bars, and seasonal chocolate sculptures. For more than a decade since Kate Weiser first opened in Trinity Groves I've been a huge fan and supporter, and have introduced countless people to it and gifted probably $10,000 to $15,000 worth of KW chocolate over the years. Recently however, it's been sad to see both the prices going up and the quality and attention to detail that made KW chocolate such a special experience going down. I have only the best wishes for KW and hope they have many successful years ahead. My feedback is being given in the spirit of helping, not criticizing: 1) Cost: The prices have hit $4 per bon bon, which even in a luxury market is pushing it. It makes an $8 slice of pie or $6 frappe seem cheap by comparison. It makes KW chocolate a gift/treat for only very special occasions rather than a more attainable and more frequent treat/gift. It also makes people more judgy by increasing expectation, which can quickly result in lower reviews and ratings and lost customers (both current and future). Ultimately, it means all the costs of running the business have to be amortized over fewer and fewer sales, which means a continual cycle of higher prices and more cost cutting measures. 2) Presentation Quality: The bon bons no longer have Kate Weiser printed on the bottom, which may be a small detail--but it was so classy! I've also noticed an increasing variety in the precise shapes and heights of the chocolates. Some appear 10% larger or taller than others, or are round instead of oblong. The order sheet has gone from glossy cardstock (beautiful) to ordinary printed paper, which doesn't look as great and tends to bend at the corner. During the holiday season, the boxes for the 10 piece ran out and generic (non KW) boxes that could fit 12 bon bons were being used in their place. These looked too small and had no artistic KW sleeve which makes the packaging beautiful, and nowhere to put the order sheet identifying the individual bon bons inside. 3) Service: for the first time ever, I've experienced receiving an empty box (they forgot to fill it with any bon bons and I didn't realize it until I was about to give it as a gift), having incorrect bon bons placed in my "build your own box", and being unable to tell which bon bon is which while comparing the order sheet to the actual bon bons in the box due to slight differences in shapes and colors. 4) Innovation: now that KW has been around for more than 10 years and it's not as novel as it once was, it would be great to have innovations beyond seasonal flavors, which often aren't as impressive in taste as the mainstays. In previous years people were so excited to receive KW as a gift. That excitement has waned. Innovation could be in terms of product or service: chocolate subscriptions, mini bon bons that could be added to espresso or coffee to create indulgent coffee drinks, etc. 5) Loyalty: it might be worth considering some type of loyalty program, like how credit cards offer small perks to boost spending.

I drove 30 minutes to pick up an order. The store was supposed to open at 10:00 am. I have waited 45 minutes and the door is STILL locked. Edit: I left a voicemail and the CEO actually called me back and assured my order would arrive to my home by courier that afternoon (which it did). They even included a few extra goodies, and I am very appreciative of their willingness to make sure this was taken care of!

Google
We're long time Kate Weiser Chocolate fans in this household -making the sweets our go to gift for many occasions. We had never visited this store (as we're Dallas residents), but today decided to check it out. It's a smaller storefront, but nonetheless well organized, welcoming, and easily accessible. We were fortunate enough to try some samples, and pick up some of our favorite bon bons! The staff member present was well informed about the classes, holiday items, and each flavor/offering. Great experience all around.

I have been a long time customer, right from the start I supported this small business as a small business owner myself. Recently the customer service, shipping times and overall product size have all decreased. For a premium priced product this is just unacceptable.

They really are fabulous little mouthfuls of delight. We had fun picking out a birthday box full. I'm looking forward to trying all the new seasonal flavors.

Google
The exquisite beauty of the chocolate makes you not want to eat it. Yet, the amazing flavor combinations draw you to take a bite. Yuzu is so so good as is the key lime and cookie butter. You really cannot go wrong so try them all.

Google
Very cool experience and worth the stop if you’re in the area. Custom flavor and color combinations make this a one-of-a-kind experience if you’re looking for a sweet treat. Plus it’s right next to a wine bar, which is sort of perfect placement.

Google
Cute place. Good customer service, but the chocolate was NOT IT!!! For the price we were expecting some amazing, unique tasting chocolate...the chocolate turned out to be pretty gross!!! Would not recommend unless you like overpriced chocolate that looks better than it tastes.

Yelp
When I die, I want my coffin filled with these chocolates in case I'm not really dead! Worth every single penny (and it takes a bunch of them) - but everything I have ever had from Kate's is sublime. If you love chocolate, you've found Mecca. If you hate it, you'll be converted.

Yelp
The chocolates are not only eye catching, they are also delicious. I recommend the key lime pie, cookie monster, and passion fruit, but you cannot go wrong with any of the caramel flavors either.

Yelp
Treat Yo Self! I love gifting both myself and others any chance I get with these chocolates. Located in the Clearfork Shopping Center, look for the doors with the neon glass. If you've been before or know exactly what you want and there's a line, fill out a build a box sheet found on the left upon entering. The chocolates themselves are a work of art! If cut in half, every layer can be seen and displays how skillfully made each one is. All of the flavors are so delicious and divine.

Yelp
So I had been ordering chocolates from a world famous chocolatier out of New York City, but thought there's got to be some really good chocolatiers in Dfw. I went on a search and I found this wonderful place. Every piece of chocolate is artwork. It's absolutely beautiful and my wife said it was even better than the candy that I got New York City. The girl behind the counter was extremely nice and helpful. Will definitely be getting our chocolates from here from now on.

Yelp
Oh, they get a 5 star for the chocolates, but having to suffer through their Clover Point of Sale system asking me to tip someone whose job it is to put chocolate boxes in a bag and hand them to me is insulting. As a customer you feel pressured to provide a tip, when there is no real service performed. My store uses Clover as well and I know you can disable tipping so that it is a straight transaction. Kate Weiser - If your employees need tips to survive, pay them more, stop putting your customers on the spot. It's enough to keep me from treating myself in your store.

Yelp
Amazing artistic chocolates and Kaniqua is absolutely amazing. The customer service was truly inspiring and I'll definitely be returning to make more purchases!!!

Cameron S.

Yelp
I'm giving this three stars because the chocolate is good; however, the customer service at the West Cliff location was horrible. I don't write reviews often, but the employee assisting us was very condescending and rude! There was nobody else in the store and she acted like we were inconveniencing her by making her work.

Yelp
Outstanding. They are so beautifully prepared. They taste just as great as they look. Yum Yum!

Yelp
I think I'll have to make a trip to the Dallas location with 200+ reviews and 4 1/2 stars. I didn't see the hype in this place. This location only has chocolate. They couldn't do ice cream because of the gelato place in the area. They can't do macarons because of Joy. The chocolates we had, I didn't care for. I don't even remember the names. The husband also thought it would be cool to get a $30 hot chocolate melting snowman named Carl. Carl could've stayed on the shelf. No one liked him.

Yelp
Yummy chocolates, very cool & unique paintings on each truffle/bonbon. Pretty pricey. Staff was informative & patient as we tried to decide! Unique dessert option.

Yelp
The most esthetically beautiful candies you ever want to see. The taste of these bonbons is divine. Nice gift section, as well. I highly recommend.

Yelp
They're out of all the good flavors right now. The lady working there said they are probably going to shut down before Christmas. The lady working there was also very rude to us when we asked why they were out of most of the flavors. (We came at 1 PM on Dec 21st).
