"We really like picking up cinnamon rolls from this Edgewater bakery and cafe, but for Thanksgiving, they also have pies like apple, cherry, sweet potato, and pumpkin. And if you don’t want to eat multiple full-sized pies by yourself, you can order a flight of three 5” pies." - john ringor

We ordered from Edge of Sweetness for our wedding cake in 2021, they did an amazing job! We ordered a 2 tier naked red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, it was gorgeous. When we picked up the tasting box (best thing to come out of the pandemic) it didn't have red velvet, which was of course the one we were 99% sure we wanted to choose. Kate was so sweet and gave us a freshly baked red velvet cupcake to try for free! We just ordered a smaller version of our wedding cake for our upcoming first anniversary, Kate remembered us and even gave us an anniversary discount! We will definitely continue to be a customer of this amazing bakery.

My little sister and brother in law chose this lovely place for their wedding. The ceremony was beautiful, and the setting/environment as well. The food was delicious, my kids loved it too and it surprised me because they are so picky. The staff was very friendly, i am beyond grateful they helped in making my little sister's wedding ceremony so memorable.

Google
This place has great atmosphere. There’s these unique tiles on the ceiling, local treats for sale, and a lot of options. Something I really appreciated was that they accepted my personal cup for my order. I always love supporting business that are willing to support my gosh for less waste.

Google
Very cozy local bakery with free Wi-Fi. The Serbian Pitas are wonderful and the best Ooey Gooey Butter Cake I have ever had. They are also very active in the community and have partnered with the local high school to help students learn about entrepreneurship and emerging tech uses in business. I would highly recommend popping in and checking them out.

Google
A very great experience! Presentation, quality, customer service, taste, taste, taste, just unbelievably delicious cake. My 7 year old nephew loved his custom anime birthday cake, and so did our guests and family. They are still talking about the cake and how they could go for some cake again. Kate was exceptional with getting in contact with my sister regarding this custom cake order and even allowing us to pick up the cake on a day they were closed. Just an amazing experience. Will definitely order from them again for any cake event!

Google
German Chocolate Bar is a bargain at four bucks: large enough to share. Pecans and coconut top a moist, dense chocolate cake. Not too sweet. Coffee, cold brew, teas, baked goods, and sandwiches. Portions are large but lack rich flavor. Edgewater corner storefront with lots of big windows let in the sun. Front counter height, two-tops, and a few larger tables. Easy walk from Thorndale or Granville stops on Red Line.

Such a warm welcoming I received when I came inside this shop! I usually get black coffee but barista Kristina made my day with a lavender honey latte with oat milk.! Such a treat!

Google
I went with edge of sweetness bakery for my wedding cake and it was amazing! We wanted to go with a local bakery as we are residents of Edgewater and it was the best choice because the cake was DELICIOUS! We went with the lemon cake with a raspberry buttercream in the middle and I watched as people ate multiple slices at my wedding! Working with the team here was a joy and they made the whole process stress free. We even got the cake tasting box and my husband and I had so much fun trying all the flavors and picking out what we wanted. Could not recommend them enough!

Yelp
Edge of sweetness hits the sweet spots with a variety of desserts and caffeine choices If you need somewhere to relax, meet a friend, do work, or just in the mood for something delicious? VISIT NOW!!! The service is sweet and the ambiance is a cute Cafe and you can even take baking classes like that's so cool!!!

Dovi Amor S.

Yelp
Indeed they have the best cinnamon rolls! I ordered half dozen but it seems that they gave 7 rolls. The presentation is good, the lady who gave out the box is friendly. The order was ready ahead of the pick up time.

Courtney F.

Yelp
We came in here for Luciana's empanadas and ended up trying a few more things. The server was so sweet and soft spoken, she made us feel very welcome and was happy to answer any questions. The place itself was very clean and had a cute, modern counter. It was very welcoming. I ended up with a blueberry tea which was great. They use tea bags, but it tasted super fresh and high quality. My mom got a blueberry scone and she really loved it. Definitely a sweet little spot, I would definitely spend my Sunday mornings here!!

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for a while but it wasn't until they featured their breakfast sandwich on their Insta story that I got lured into trying on the same day. It's yummy baked egg that's firm like quiche but very hearty. You can get it with or without bacon (baked in) and regularly served on a pretzel bun. So good. For my husband, I picked up the Norwood melt which is a turkey sandwich with fixins also on a pretzel bun. He gave it a two thumbs up. Go early. They do small batches of bagels but we couldn't try them out since they were sold out. Staff is super friendly. Oh- might come back and try their cakes! One of the staff members brought out a new creation for a baby shower. It looked BEAUTIFUL.

Michelle S.

Yelp
I got my daughter's first birthday cake from here. I priced a few bakerys in the area that I found on yelp, but ultimately chose them. The cake came out adorable, but also was reasonably priced! I would recommend this bakery for regular ol sweet tooth days, but also if you need a fancy fondant cake. Also, the inside of the bakery is super cute and for a place in walking distance from my house, I'm highkey shocked we've never popped in. Will be doing so in the future!

Sally Z.

Yelp
I ordered my gender reveal cake from edge of sweetness and I was very very happy with it. I requested a simple design from the outside. The cake was vanilla with banana caramel filling and it's so so so delicious, the cake itself regardless of the filling was delicious, even the frosting was so good! Not overwhelming, just perfect sweetness.

Emily R.

Yelp
We love Edge of Sweetness! It's a great place to hang out and have a coffee and snack, and we love to send their cinnamon rolls as gifts. We just ordered a cake for our daughter's birthday and it was so delicious!

Brynn P.

Yelp
The CUTEST little coffee shop in Edgewater! I have lived in Chicago for 6 months, but only recently had the chance to come here! The food and drinks are FANTASTIC! The staff is also really nice and personable as well. There is such a wide variety of food and drinks here-you can't really god wrong. This is now my new favorite local coffee shop! Can't wait to go back again!

Christina L.

Yelp
I love this place! I've been here a couple of times and every time it makes me day. Not only is the food mouth watering, the staff is exceptionally kind. Today, I ordered a to-go order and my bag was filled with cute, positive messages. Couldn't say better things about it.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Bought a whole apple pie from them at Apple Fest yesterday and it's already moldy! They must have baked these a while ago for it to go bad so quickly. Disgusting.

Abby P.

Yelp
So I haven't actually had the pleasure of eating anything from Edge of Sweetness, but I have had a great experience with them. I wanted to order cupcakes for a friend that lives in the area as he was going through a hard time. Edge of Sweetness is very close to his residence and I found it via Yelp so it was the perfect fit. Their delivery is done through GrubHub which wasn't a problem because I was able to make sure that he was home. However, GrubHub had listed Edge of Sweetness as closed when they were not so I wasn't able to order. I called the store and they got on it right away. Within an hour they had fixed the issue with GrubHub! I was able to speak with the nice lady from the shop on the phone before placing the order and told her what cupcakes I wanted and she even offered to write a note on the box. I ordered via the GrubHub app, but she knew what I wanted from our conversation so I didn't have to do very much! My friend said that the cupcakes were amazingly yummy and he was so grateful. I'm glad that it worked out and appreciate Edge of Sweetness for helping me out!

Sal D.

Yelp
Wanted to buy some coffee and pastries. My partner and I got turned away because we had dogs in our tote bags barely peeking their heads out. We came in with our dogs in totes before and wasn't a problem, but this woman I've never seen in there turned us away.I'm also trans feminine so idk if that was the motive. LGBT+ & Allies beware.

Elaine U.

Yelp
I haven't been inside this place yet, which is a shame but I have bought some goodies from the farmer's market on several occasions now. Today I got a gooey butter cake and am in love. Absolutely delicious!

Rebecca W.

Yelp
This place has potential, but it could be really great with a few improvements. No. 1 would be the coffee. The drip coffee is weak. Also, the staff don't seem trained in making espresso-based drinks. For example, I ordered an iced latte, and the person who made it made a hot latte with steamed milk and put ice in it. The cold brew is also weak. No. 2 would be getting orders correct, whether that be over the phone or in person. On numerous occasions there has been a mistake with our order. We haven't ordered any of their cakes, but the cinnamon buns are delicious. We have faith that with a few tweaks, Edge of Sweetness could be our No. 1 neighborhood bakery and coffee stop!

Noell C.

Yelp
Came here for the first time a few weeks ago. I love the vibes and the neighborhood. Tried their peanut butter latte and it was the best latte I've ever had, definitely returning! Smaller menu and it takes a minute to get orders out but it's worth it!

Craig N.

Yelp
I've never waited so long for a coffee. More than 10 minutes without a line is ridiculous

Karen C.

Yelp
I ordered a wedding cake for my son and daughter-in-law's belated wedding reception at Edge of Sweetness. I had never been in before, but had past by on numerous occasions and saw on their website that they took special occasion cake orders up to two weeks before the event- which was awesome because it was so last minute. The staff and baker here are AMAZING and so friendly! When I walked in I was able to sit down and actually talk to the woman who would be baking the cake- I ended up doing a yellow cake with lemon butter cream frosting. The baker delivered our cake the day of the event right on time and set it up for us. she stayed to teach me the proper method to cut and serve the cake. The cake itself was delicious! This is coming from a person who typically does not like cake very much, but it was SO GOOD. Super fresh and didn't have any gross artificial taste like many other bakery cakes. I highly recommend Edge of Sweetness! You get the entire package- locally owned, helpful and friendly staff, and a product that everyone will enjoy!

Robert B.

Yelp
What a wonderful jewel of a bakery in Edgewater! Kate and her crew whip up fabulous bakery goods. Their love of baking and their care for their customers shines through.

Tony S.

Yelp
Stopped by on whim a few weeks ago. Some of the best coffee in Chicago. Super friendly service. Stopped by again for a repeat performance. I'll be back.

Patrice C.

Yelp
The cake was amazing . . . Everyone loved it and the look was so fab i imagine it was hard to cut it. AH-MAZING LOOK!

Thomas S.

Yelp
This will be a quick review from a pop-in and a cookie. I stopped in to see what was going on at Edge of Sweetness. Upon entering, it appears to be a nice, clean bakery/cafe for the local community. The space was quiet and a good place to work and hang out. They have internet for customers which is a big plus. I just ordered a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie that was a little under $3. It wasn't huge but overall flavor, taste and moistness was good. Prices are not listed next to items in the I will revisit for more info later. Prices might be a little higher from what I read but at least it was quiet and a good place to work

R R.

Yelp
Delicious and cute cake! The bakery was able to help me when I was trying to plan a super last minute party. I will definitely be back for a fully custom cake in the future.

Cam M.

Yelp
I finally stopped by. I'm glad that I did. I've been seeing this place from the L and my walks around the neighborhood and stopped by today for a sweet treat to-go. The staff was friendly. The sweet treats (butter cookie & lemon bar) were great. I'll be back to this place. I'm glad that it's not right down the street from me because I'd be here daily. I wish it was closer because I think it would be a great date spot, study spot, or just a nice place to enjoy a coffee/tea and a bakery item.

claudia l.

Yelp
what better way to end the Summer than a delicious blueberry pie from Edge Of Sweetness. I ordered the pie to take to a potluck dinner and everyone raved about its goodness!!

Joseph R.

Yelp
I so wanted for this place to be successful when they first opened in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the menu is very limited and I was extremely disappointed with the recent order I placed. One of the items wasn't available and even though the menu states that the lemon loaf is sold by the slice, I was called and informed that it was only available as a whole loaf. I agreed to get it anyway only to have it delivered and find that it was so dry that I threw it out. So dissatisfied.

Alexandra H.

Yelp
Cute shop that just opened in the Edgewater neighborhood. They have coffee, teas, and lots of treats to choose from. I tried the chai tea, which was very good. They gave me my open tea pot to pour out as much tea as I like. The treats look very scrumptious! I'll have to try one on my next trip here.

Gloria P.

Yelp
I am using the Edgewater Library while our local one is being remodeled. I had this really good Twyla Tharp book on hold so I hopped on the el to pick it up. I forgot to check the Edgewater schedule first so I had a half hour to kill before the the library opened. I thought it was a perfect time to check out this bakery. I had a cup of coffee and a veggie quiche. With a tip it was almost $11 but it's really fresh, home made food so who cares. I am pretty certain even after our Merlo Library opens up I will come back. It's really a beautiful little place.

Mia S.

Yelp
I was in search of a new coffee shop close to my apartment in Edgewater and I'm so glad I found this place. I got a 16 ounce drip coffee this morning and when I got to the register it was only a $1! There ended being a special promotion going on today, but when I checked out there menu, their prices were reasonable. Plus, the light roast was an instant hit for me. I will most definitely be back

Samantha M.

Yelp
I hired Edge of Sweetness to make a small cutting cake for our wedding. They did a fantastic job! Very simple process to order and we worked together on a design, they delivered on time to my venue, and (most importantly!!) the cake tasted delicious. I was happy to support a neighborhood business for my wedding.

Nicole C.

Yelp
I adore this place! It's super cute, always clean and put together, beautiful display of (very good!) bakery items, wonderful customer service, and fantastic coffee. I'm a local photographer, and another photographer friend and I stopped by here on a weekend day, and had coffee and cookies and a cupcake and it was perfect. Everyone was so nice, it was super cozy despite it being chilly outside, and we were able to hang out and people watch since it's right on Broadway. Decor is really nice - it's light and bright, perfect spot to meet with a friend or bring in a laptop and get some stuff done with a cup of coffee.

John S.

Yelp
Very nice place. I live at a walking distance from here, so I come here regularly. Service is friendly. Their coffees and cakes are good. Their quiches are a bit too oily, and somehow takes 10 minutes to come out. Still, this will be my regualre place to go, and Ill take this place easily over Dunkin or Starbucks.

Andrea W.

Yelp
I used to be a cocktail enthusiast. Then I went and had a baby and have turned into one of those crazy coffee people I swore I'd never be. I know I have a problem when I'm already looking forward to my morning cold brew before I go to bed. What are you gonna do, right? Edge of Sweetness has the best cold brew. Seriously, it's awesome and it packs a punch, which is definitely needed these days. When I saw the description of the Kyoto Black saying that it has flavors of cognac, stout beer, and chocolate, I was sold. They somehow managed to combine all of my favorite things in one glass. Yum! The baked goods are pretty great as well. I always go in thinking that I should get the quiche, which is delicious, but most of the time I end up getting a cinnamon roll. They are the best cinnamon rolls I can remember tasting and totally worth the calories. The folks who work there are always friendly and it's just a pleasant place to be. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Sid B.

Yelp
So I would have posted a picture, but as soon as my 1/2 dozen of cupcakes were *delivered* - yes *delivered* - I didn't anticipate their sudden disappearance. So I would have to show an empty box with finger buttercream icing prints and crumbs. So if you're somewhat of a cupcake aficionado and have tried a few spots here in Chicago Far North (especially Andersonville), you've probably noticed something about your cupcakes; prices rising/smaller portions. Well I'm happy to report that's not the case with Edge of Sweetness. They're a hair cheaper than most of their competition, but the size is 10% larger than their better competitors. Now let's get to what you're really waiting to hear about, taste. In a word delicious. Their execution is on par with what you would expect from a bakeries in the area but more importantly, they don't add so much sugar that you struggle to get through one half of a cupcake. I purchased the 1/2 dozen sampler and between me and my SO, they disappeared within minutes. What's worse for us is that you don't have to leave your house to get them. Did I say delivery already? LOL. I'll absolutely be either stopping by for more or getting more delivered. And I promise to actually have real pictures instead of making excuses about an empty box and crumbs. :)

Kenya T.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with Edge of Sweetness! I've stopped in a handful of times and the quality of food and customer service is wonderful. Every item on the menu is crafted with love and freshness! My favorite is the ooey gooey butter cake. I brought some to a work potluck and my coworkers were fighting over the last piece.

Skyler B.

Yelp
I live pretty close to this place, and I wish had started coming here sooner. I came here around 9:45 on a Wednesday morning and got a 16 oz. Mexican Dark roast coffee ($2.50), and a potato and onion Burek (a Serbian pita) ($6). The coffee wasn't super dark, but it was good and the mugs they have are really cute. The Serbian pita was delicious and fun to eat because it's like a big coil of warm flaky pastry with shredded potatoes. They also have an egg and cheese one and a spinach and cheese one. The rest of the food and bakery items looked wonderful as well, and they also have more substantial food like sandwiches and salads. I didn't see any vegan bakery items, but I think some of the salads or sandwiches could be made vegan. I also think you can order a vegan cake. The prices aren't too bad and they are very worth the quality. At least 3 or 4 times while I was there, someone would walk in and the guy behind the counter recognized them and knew their order. It was so nice, and it was good to see that they have so many repeat customers. There is a fair amount of seating and free WiFi so it's a great place to do work. The guy working there was really nice and attentive. I'd recommend this place to anyone, and I definitely plan on coming back to try more things.

Matthew G.

Yelp
This place is a secret gem. I hosted a small baby shower for family this weekend and they made the perfect blue icing cupcakes made with red velvet, chocolate, and white cake! They were awesome and beautiful!!! Would recommend this place to anyone!

Brian B.

Yelp
When I lived in Edgewater, Edge of Sweetness was one of my regular stops for coffee, baked goods, and of course, their amazing bagels. Last summer I moved to Andersonville and since then haven't made it into the shop as much as I used to, but when I saw they were doing online orders with in-store pick-up during the current coronavirus closure, I immediately decided to get a half dozen bagels. They're currently only open for pick-up at certain times, and my workday got crazy yesterday and I knew I wasn't going to make it to Edge of Sweetness before their 4 pm closure. But around 3:55 pm, my phone rang and one of their store employees, Laura, called to ask if I'd be coming in for my bagels. I told her that sadly, I wasn't going to make it and I'd have to eat the cost of the bagels since they wouldn't be open again for pick-up for another week. She then asked where I live. I told her, and she said she could come drop them off to me. While I told her that wouldn't be necessary, she insisted and 20 minutes later she was in front of my building with bagels and cream cheese in hand. Long story short, Edge of Sweetness has great baked goods and coffee but what really makes them a local treasure is their amazing staff. Please support this business during the stay-at-home order and long after!

Christopher B.

Yelp
Personal service. Excellent coffee. Local business! Tasty baked goods. Cakes. What else can I say to make this long enough for a review?

N N.

Yelp
It has been twice now that Edge of Sweetness saves the day for us. I always forget to order the cake so here I am, last minute day before event calls. And it's all special request. For this last one my exact words were "I need a cake with a scary clown, nothing fancy. In fact a "nailed it" version would be great." And they delivered. With less than 24 hours notice. A delicious red velvet buttercream frosting. With the best clown ever. Bravo EOS.

Steve S.

Yelp
Grabbed a couple of cupcakes for my husband's birthday. Place is kind of cute inside, if a little sparse. When I was there, there was one customer working on his laptop. I ordered a chocolate and vanilla cupcake and then the employee then walked to the back and was gone for like five minutes. I guess the items in the front case are just for show. He came back up the cupcakes. My vanilla cupcake was okay. Gotta say it was kind of bland. My husband's chocolate cupcake was much better. Nice chocolate taste. I might be back but I'm in no rush

Ewa B.

Yelp
Great cozy neighborhood spot! We pop in often since it's just a few minute walk from home, especially today 1/30/19 being home from school and work because of the -20 temps. Hot lattes and toasty bagels hit the spot. The treats are yummy and the staff is always friendly.

Nicole S.

Yelp
My fiancé came home with a Chocolate Pecan Pie today from Edge of Sweetness, and it was delicious! Not your typical pecan pie, and not super sweet either. It was a pie with traditional pie crust, but the filling was a brownie, topped with pecans. Excited to find this gem in Edgewater, looking forward to trying some other sweets.

Andre G.

Yelp
Second time trying the Carrot Cake Cupcake, was hoping for a better tasting experience this time. The frosting was bland and tasted very oil based, like I was eating vanilla lard. As for the cake, it was moist but basically flavorless, no taste of carrots or spice. Great packaging and nicely decorated, but I honestly expect more from a small local bakery. May try again soon because I enjoy local small businesses, hope they get it right next time

Emily L.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that i almost didn't write this review because i felt bad. This is a really cute spot and the people that work there are exceptionally nice and i like local businesses I was Really disappointed the two times i went there. Got the cake of the week twice and it was stale each time but there was more than half the cake left. The butter cream frosting was soaked up by the cake that's how dry it was. Lemon bars didn't seem fresh either The girls that work there are very very nice but don't seem to know much about making coffee, my drink was watery. I REALLY hope this place gets better and produces more quality goods. I would like you guys to succeed. I see people in there all the time. Maybe I'm getting the wrong things?

Julie H.

Yelp
Today was my first visit to Edge of Sweetness but it won't be my last! I had a cinnamon roll and it was beyond delicious. I'm looking forward to trying something else next time. Honestly, it all looks fabulous!

Ivana H.

Yelp
Edge of Sweetness knows something about Customer Service! They filled my order for the day before Thanksgiving. Awesome! My cake was absolutely beautiful and even when I was not completely satisfied with how everything turned out, they were more than willing to accommodate me. I give Edge of Sweetness two thumbs up for knowing how to do business well. I can't wait to try them again for my next event.

Ali K.

Yelp
Every time I come in, these sweet treats (and fresh coffee) do not disappoint. I even had a cake made custom here and it was not only fantastic, but done in 2 days!

Rachel M.

Yelp
I've been here numerous times in the past few weeks and it's becoming one of my go-to places for a comfortable place to get a little work done while having a tasty snack. Every person I've encountered here is friendly, easy-going and kind - one of them even offered to warm-up my coffee the other day! I've tried a brownie, a few cookies, the zucchini bread and the banana bread, all of which have been delicious. The cakes look amazing (the stuff they had out going into Pride weekend were stunning) so one of these days I'll need to try to a slice. I love that coffee and tea are served in an actua mug! It adds a welcoming element and I'm not just throwing something away when I don't need to. This has a nice "neighborhood" vibe and I like the simplicity of tables, chairs and local art on the walls. It's hard to launch a business like this so I'm not looking for a lot of bells and whistles. I want friendly, tasty and comfy. This has all three so I'll be back!!

Brett N.

Yelp
I'm all for supporting new, local businesses. I want them to thrive, in fact. However, this place doesn't do much to impress. Nice corner location but the interior space, with a modern country vibe, seems uncomfortably barren, cold and uninviting. The furniture doesn't balance the expansive room and concrete floor. The lighting is too high and too small. No bold decor, texture or branded character to break up the space. It just doesn't "embrace" you or inspire your senses. That's a shame because the large bank of south-facing windows could be a wonderfully sunny place to sit. Functionally, there's one small counter/case tucked into the back corner with no clear menu board - only small chalkboards scribbled with limited info at the sides of open shelves. The case labels don't feature any prices as if to say "we'll surprise you later." There is no apparent offering of breakfast, sandwiches or other food items. My iced coffee (unlisted "cold brew") looked like iced tea and was so weak I couldn't taste any coffee ($3.50). The costly grocery chain across the street serves a much better coffee for the price. The minimum collection of basic baked goods in the case was adequate but not terribly enticing. The soft peanut butter cookie was small but tasty with delightful hints of salt. The butter cookie was unexpectedly masquerading as an almond marzipan. Perhaps there was a mistake. Cookies are a hefty $2.25 ea. Ouch! My total was $8.50 for the 3 items - two of which were very disappointing. Understandably they're experiencing growing pains. It's tough to go from farmer's market to sizable shop. However, in this market you can't simply offer baked goods without creating a solid, well-executed and immersive experience. The popular frozen custard place up the street is a successful example. With a fun interior, an expansive collection of goodies, a clear menu board with rpicing and excellent base product, it ensures a logical reason to return. I probably won't return to Edge of Sweetness. Dang it! I had hopes.

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
This place is a major find! I'm so happy they are open. Everything I have ordered from here is phenomenal: great coffee drinks (lavender latte A+), cinnamon rolls and scones are my go-to and the breakfast sandwich is also so good. The staff is very nice and everything is clean, spaced out per covid precautions. Thanks guys & happy upcoming Anniversary! :)
