Kathak Rhythms

I have danced at Kathak Rhythms for about 7 years. I recently quit as I wasn't able to sub par the treatment I received as a student by the owner herself, Akhila Rao. I would constantly get put down about my abilities and would get insulted over the smallest mistakes. It was evident to the class and myself that I was constantly getting picked on. I started Kathak as a 4th grader who was extremely passionate about the art, but as I grew up I have unfortunately grown to have a resentment towards my passion because of the harsh nature of the instructor. Though, I miss dancing I stand by my decision of leaving a toxic environment. Most of the reviews are by parents who want to see their kids excel in Kathak. No doubt you will excel by sending your kids here, the teachers are extremely talented. Unfortunately the reviews are missing the experience of the kids who go through the process of being constantly discouraged which eventually leads to them losing their passion. Though I still respect the establishment as a whole, this is just my experience.

My daughter has been going to Kathak Rhythms for past 3 years. Guru Ahkila Rao just hosted the 10th annual recital Kathak Bahaar on Sunday. It was such a splendid show to complete perfection - be it the parking instruction, or the details on dress up... everything was thought about and communicated! We were blessed to be able to witness the FULL Kathak Bahaar program of 33 dances! Each was different with vibrant colors, choreography, outfits, music and a story to depict. Rupa is lucky to have Akhila Rao maam as her Guru and be part of her ecosystem. Thank you 🙏

Good for kids and elders

Highly recommend this place to learn kathak dance form. Guru Akhila Rao is a terrific teacher and pushes the students to do their best. Every year students get a chance to Perform on stage, which is a plus. You give exams as you finish each level and move on to do your bachelors and Masters in this dance form.
