Yelp
Again, thank you fellow Yelpers! Without your posts and photos to pique my interest, I would not have tried these amazing momos this evening (7/24/20).
Kathmandu Momocha shares the same commissary/catering kitchen as Smokin' Pete's BBQ (I still remember their former Ballard location). Who knew tasty momos existed in a non-descript strip mall along sketchy Aurora, the ghetto part of Snoreline? I mean, Shoreline. I live nearby for nearly 18.5 years, trust me on this.
After parking my car near a cannabis shop and Chinese/Korean restaurant, I cross the parking lot to their location. The Smokin' Pete's staff alert the KM presumed owner. After a brief wait while she was handing over a large order to a food delivery courier, I then placed my order with her. Very pleasant and welcoming demeanor despite both of us being masked. With incomplete facial expressions, one reads a lot from others eyes. I can tell she enjoys and wholeheartedly promotes their product line.
I've had momos years ago at Everest Kitchen in Lake Forest Park and Himalayan Sherpa House in Seattle's Tangletown neighborhood. There were okay, nothing to get overly excited about though. But I love all things dumpling-like and bite sized and finally, third time's a charm with this spontaneous visit to Kathmandu Momocha. By sheer coincidence, I was at a Himalayan cafe in Lynnwood earlier for a late lunch. Kismet.
The half order option (5 each for $6) works well when initially sampling and don't want to commit to a full order. Carnivores, vegetarians, vegans, and gluten free diners all have menu choices available. Fresh momos are served hot and steaming. They also come with dipping sauces. Dangerous to know their momos are also available in frozen bulk quantities!
Me and The Homie shared both the pork momos and the tilapia/shrimp momos back at home. Nice ratio of protein to wrapper, chockful, juicy and flavorful with Himalayan-Tibetan-Bhutan spice and herb profile. Best eaten while fresh and hot.
I was kindly given samples of the potato cheese balls and the chickpea pakoras. Light, nice crunch, not greasy. The momos and these samples were simply outstanding.
I thought briefly whether I should go back before they close, yes they were that good, lol. Open only Thursdays through Sundays from 5-9pm. I definitely will plan to try other menu items, next time by walking to/from home. Missed out on the lone dessert option, Mango Kulfi, all sold out. The strip mall parking lot was pretty full when I got there an hour before closing. Better planning next time.
If you're in the vicinity of 150th and Aurora, along Metro's Rapid Ride E route, stop by and checkout this farmers market and food truck favorite.
Highly recommended!
