This casual eatery offers a simple menu and quick service, but the execution lacks refinement. The minimalistic interior with few tables and loud pop music creates an energetic but unpolished ambiance. We ordered a pork sandwich, honey walnut shrimp sandwich, and wagyu waffle fries. The food arrived promptly, and sandwiches were neatly sliced in half. However, the soft, flavorless bread left much to be desired. The pork cutlet was juicy but lacked seasoning. The honey walnut shrimp sandwich fared better, though the thick sugar coating on the walnut made it difficult to bite through. The wagyu waffle fries with melted cheese curry dipping sauce were the standout, carrying most of the flavor. Despite their name, the fries contained no wagyu beef. The most surprising aspect was being prompted for a significant tip at checkout, when there was no table service. The default tip options of 20-25% felt unjustified given the lack of any real service. I adjusted the tip to 10% to reflect only the minimal order taking and food preparation involved. I simply placed my order, picked up my ready food, cleaned up, and left. Overall, this restaurant offers convenience more than an exceptional dining experience. The menu needs refinement for the flavors to match the attractive presentations. With improved bread, seasoning, and sauce balance supporting the simple preparations, this casual eatery could achieve its potential for a quick, satisfying meal.

Google
A friend introduced me to Katsu Sando before & glad they opened up a SGV location. They have a variety of selections you can order from. I got the Katsu sando & slaw because it was my first time here, but I can’t wait to try the other options. They also have fruit sandos & onigri. Even though the sandos are best eaten right away I think it would still make great picnic food.

Parking can be a challenge and the wait times can be long, but still worth it! The cashier recommended the chicken sando, but we tried the pork too. So good! Messy, but not greasy. Sauced, but not too much. My kid devoured the fruit sando too. I already love this spot!

Google
The walnut shrimp sando is a must-try! 🍤 I also love that they have some ready-made food/snacks like onigiri, fruit sandos, and a potato salad and egg salad sando. I really like the bulgogi onigiri. There's also a good selection of Japanese drinks like Milkis and Ramune. The place is a bit small but we got there right before the rush and snagged a table. With about 4 people ahead of us, the wait for food wasn't too bad either!

Google
So happy Katsu Sando in SGV! Soft Opening today and tomorrow 12-5pm Ordered the Menchi Katsu Sando for here and the Egg Sando for to go. Both Sandos hit the spot and were very tasty. I need to order a dozen of the Egg Sando to put inside my fridge for breakfast. I’ll be back and wish the owners much success. The staff super friendly too!!!

Google
Everything I heard about this restaurant is true! Best katsu chicken sandwich around! The lightly toasted honey milk bread is perfect with the chicken katsu (panko-fried chicken) and coleslaw. The spicy sauce adds a little kick and good flavor. I would like it a little more spicy but for people with not a lot of spice tolerance, they will like this sauce. I can't wait to try the other menu items!

Google
The chicken katsu sando was crispy, juicy, and very tender. Honey walnut shrimp had decent amount of shrimp, well seasoned, but felt like the walnut was a little too hard to be in a sandwich. The wagyu waffle fries was crunchy and the cheesy curry dip was so goood. Thick curry with great flavors. Will definitely have to come back and try the curry plates

Google
Clean place maybe too clean. Looks brand new kinda plain looking but not a problem. Small selection of items but everything looks quality and hand made except for the snack bar and drinks. Staff is friendly and helpful. Got busy fast so come at a good time. A bit pricey as I paid 28 dollars for 2 sandwiches and order of fries. One bathroom. Small parking lot also so drop someone off the find parking if you solo you sol. No cash only card. As for the food. Got the Menchi thick pattern still a little pink in the middle. Juicy but lacks flavor. Fires are crispy but were not that hot suace was ok not hot at all. Sandwhich needs mustard or ketchup or mayo whatever you perfer. Pickels and some onions would make it better imo. I will come back to try the pork sandwich.

Yelp
Easy, convenient, tasty sandos! Tried this place with a friend and wanted their honey walnut shrimp Sando. It was thicker shrimp patty put together in a patty and deep fried with little honey walnut pieces inside, and I believe a condensed milk sauce. Love the flavor especially with the OMG sauce (a spicy sauce recipe) This is more of a unique food item as I would normally go for pork/chicken but I was glad I tried it. I also ordered the Katsu chicken tenders with the waffle fries. Nicely fried and crispy, it came with three sauces the ranch, honey mustard, and omg sauce. Ranch was garlicky and flavorful, and their OMG sauce is a must try for spicy food lovers. The honey mustard was okay. Waffle fries were great and seasoned. I also took an egg Sando for the road and it held up well a day later. Would recommend! Staff were nice and informative, they told me their plates also come with additional items like (potato salad?) and the katsu plate would come with rice. They also had extra snacks and drinks for sale and acted as a mini-mart. Looking forward to eating here again when I come to the area next.

Yelp
In a small shopping center is a Mini Mart with convenient sandwiches, snacks and soft drinks. They are pre-packaged and ready to grab-and-go. The vegetarian option is Portobello Katsu on a toasted honey milk bread for $12.99. They do offer made to order hot meals at a reasonable prices. I got the 2 piece Boneless Chicken Tenders with Waffle Fries for $10. The chicken was fried perfectly with a little crunchy breading that was very delicious. The chicken was bigger than I expected and the Waffle Fries were very tasty. They do have a 4-piece combo for $14.99. Katsu Family Meals are available for $55 - $60. This deal comes with 4 proteins, 2 large rice, a large potato salad and cabbage slaw or a large Wagyu Curry. Other side options are Potato Salad, White Rice, and Curry Cheese Fries (sorry, I do not have a photo of this), it does sound intriguing tho. There is free parking in front of their Cafe. There is seating for about 25 customers if you want to dine indoors. I really felt I got my money's worth and was very satisfied. Give them a try, they are open Tuesday through Sunday (11AM to 8PM)... don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya.

Yelp
Decided to have a catch up lunch with some friends of ours here. They hadn't been here before so we recommended as we've had it in the past. Small venue, not much seating but it's a cute little cafe with drink selections and fun sandwich and box set options. I got the Katsu Sando which was delish and just the right serving size. The service was polite and relatively quick but we were there for a catch up so we didn't kind the short wait. But the staff were friendly though. It's also in a nice area with good parking.

Belinda D.

Yelp
First time being, was really great! Ordered the chicken katsu curry plate, was delicious. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Stop #2 on our Friday Sammy Tour! Small sando/mini mart located on Mission and Las Tunas. Parking is limited in the plaza lot during busy hours. Very nice shop. Open. Bright. Clean. Sam greeted us as we walked in the door, provided us with food recommendations, and was nice enough to let me switch my drink out when I changed my mind later. Went in for the katsu sandwich but fell in love with the honey walnut shrimp sando. So much flavor and plenty of shrimp. We also ordered the waffle fries with furikake and curry on the side. Super filling. Sam must have seen me eyeing the egg salad sando because he graciously offered one to us for free on the way out. Made my freakin day :) Will definitely be back for more.

Aftin J.

Yelp
The parking here is awful, best to try and find a spot in the neighborhood. Small, unassuming spot with clean interior. Some tables for you to dine in. I got the chicken Katsu curry plate. The chicken was perfect, not dry at all and had the perfect amount of crisp. The curry was smooth and delicious.

Magda N.

Yelp
3 star review for the fruit sando only. I have yet to try the katsu sando or any of the made-to-order food from the kitchen. I got the strawberry cream filled sandwich. Smell & taste a little off. Not quite spoiled but just not right. Not fruity, not milky, not quite sure how to put it. Also, the bread is thinner than I'd like & not soft. I went on a weekday around 2-3pm so it could be not-freshly-made product. For $6-7 bucks per tiny sandwich I'd expected better though. They have other stuff to grab n go like triangle kimbap, japanese egg sandwich, unique snacks, & drinks. Convenient. Staff are nice. This place is located in the bonchon plaza. So ofc parking is terrible.

Cassidy I.

Yelp
The pork katsu curry was fantastic! And way too much food - plan on sharing this meal or having leftovers. Staff were friendly and served us within about 10 minutes of ordering. The store is extremely cute, with vintage themed packaging.

Yelp
So normally I think Japanese fast-casual yoshoku places are kind of cringe in the United States because they tend to appeal to bougie customers who want to pay $30 for something that I used to pay $1.25 in a cafeteria for as a student in Japan (this is literally how Japanese curry usually works). But this place WAS NOT like that! Let me be clear, the fried chicken katsu was better than the vast majority of katsu I've had in Japan. It's actually just legitimately, incredibly good. And while kind of on the pricey side, that's really just an artifact of being in California (as opposed to being able to upcharge customers who want to pay extra for cafeteria food because it's Japanese and thus 'fancy'). First, the fried chicken itself is intensely crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. And that's really the judge of fried chicken most of the time because you really aren't changing the basic flavor profile of chicken that much. That being said, the sauces were good and the sandwich had a lot of flavorful veggies/other stuff in it. Love the coleslaw. All my homies love coleslaw. So I will be clear that both the standalone chicken and the sandwich is really good. I would honestly consider this a top-5 chicken sandwich I've had in my entire life. Second, they've got other stuff besides chicken. I tried a bite out of the honey walnut shrimp sandwich and it was good. That being said, it's hard to make a bad version of honey walnut shrimp, so that's my only real commentary. It's good, but I thought the fried chicken was better/more unique. I'm also not sure I would order this to-go or via delivery. Fried chicken is best when it comes right out of the fryer and gets more or less worse every minute after. Furthermore, there isn't a lot of sitting space, though there is some and I guess it's a sandwich so it can be eaten while loitering outside ("wow it's the authentic Japanese delinquent experience"). Service was great and attentive, especially for a counter-serve place! Parking is horrible, so good luck. That plaza is insanely fisted and always will be. You will never find parking nearby, so godspeed. It's still worth it though. Hoping to try the menchi next time!

Yelp
Katsu Sando has kakigori, which is a welcome treat on a hot summer day. The katsu sandwiches and plates are made-to-order so can take 20 mins to prepare. There's a parking lot in the complex. For the food: The hot cocoa kakigori is super cute and a little messy to eat. I picked up strawberry sando and coffee milk drink for snack.

Alicia C.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Katsu Sando for a while. I got the chicken katsu sando, fruit sando, and the egg salad sando. All of them were tasty in their own way. I particularly enjoyed the sauce that came with the chicken sandwich. It is a must! Service was quick and the chicken sandwich was freshly prepared, and the prepackaged sandwiches are made fresh daily. There are many tables and seats for casual dine in option as well. 10/10 I will return again!

Yelp
I placed my order through Grubhub and came to the store and picked up. The order was ready and aligned with the ETA from the app. Pickup was easy and straightforward. For parking, I arrived around 5:30, and was fortunate to find parking pretty easily. Normally, you would have trouble finding parking during peak hours. I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp Sando and Wagyu Curry Cheese Fries. For the Walnut Shrimp Sando it was really good and sweet. There were nice little pieces of walnut and shrimps between the Sando. There was also a bit of coleslaw, which I wished they had more of. This was the highlight of the order. The waffle fries itself was crispy and has a mayo sauce which tasted great. However, the sauce wasn't evenly coated. Only the top layer was coated with mayo, while the bottom fries were just plain. Additionally, the curry cheese sauce was overwhelming. There was also way too much of that sauce, so I ended up not even using it all. This was my least favorite part of the order. I do think the waffle fries tasted better by itself, but would recommend sharing it, since it's a large portion.

Janet K.

Yelp
Oh hi! You cute little store! I came across this eatery going into this shopping center. I'm like this is such a cute place so I wanted to try them out. Customer service is excellent, she was sweet and answered all my questions since it's my first time. They have loaded area of triangle kimbap and egg sandwiches to strawberry filled sandwiches. I didn't get them I just went straight to the cutlet. It was delicious and portions are on the slight small side. It's not much to share with two for sure. Maybe you'll still be hungry with just one cutlet meal. Would I come back? Definitely! I'll definitely try all the items they have. It's super clean but not much place to sit.

Samantha C.

Yelp
Got their kakigori to share, yum! What a refreshing dessert to eat on a warm, sunny day. Service was good and restaurant is clean. Parking lot can be a little busy. Their flavors rotate, so will be back!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Came in for a quick grab and was quite surprised how tasty their sandwich was. Since the name is katsu sando, I got a pork katsu sandwich (and you can choose other types of protein). The sandwich is made fresh. Bread is fresh with a tasty Cole slaw in it. The pork katsu was thick, juicy and crunchy with just enough sauce. It also came with a hot sauce, which paired very well with the sandwich. I highly recommend. It's a little pricey for a sandwich but the pork katsu is really thick. You can likely share with someone as a snack.

Peggy V.

Yelp
Great food and even better service! I believe it was the Owner who greeted me and helped me order. Answered all my questions and was super kind! I ordered their Manchu Katsu and it was tasty! Especially dipped in their curry! Chef's kiss! I was super excited to try their fruit Sando, but maybe I should have waited a little because the bread was kinda tough sitting in their fridge. I was expecting soft white bread, but overall yummy food. This is their new location with parking and much bigger space. Restaurant is clean and has a ton of seating.

Emily C.

Yelp
Was looking for new place to try out one night and stumbled upon this place a couple doors down from Bonchon. We ordered the chicken katsu sando and honey walnut shrimp sando. The chicken was nice and meaty but we both agreed that the honey walnut shrimp was the winner here!! Service was chill and there's some tables to sit down out at while waiting for your food, as well as a little water station available. If you're not sure what to get and you're a fan of honey walnut shrimp...Get the honey walnut shrimp sando! It's was crispy, warm, tasty, and packed with shrimp. No ragrets

Tiffany N.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place out for quite awhile but just never made it an eating priority. We came here for dinner Friday night & I was thinking that it would be packed but nope, we were the only ones in there. My husband got the katsu sando and I got the katsu plate. Everything came out fresh & pipping hot in 10mins give or take. I really liked the plate because I felt like it was a huge portion. The chicken was on the bit of a dry side though, even dipping it in the sauce didn't help. My husband said the sando was okay. The fries were so good! So crisp & they give so much. I'd come back to try the honey walnut shrimp one but wouldn't get the chicken sando again.

Hannah L.

Yelp
Katsu Sando is a charming little spot that blends a mini mart vibe with a fast-casual experience. The service was top-notch. I placed a takeout order for the walnut shrimp Sando, chicken katsu Sando, wagyu fries, and a hibiscus chamoy mango kakigori (Japanese shaved ice). The person who took my order over the phone was thoughtful enough to let me know they'd prepare the shaved ice once I arrived, so it wouldn't melt on the way home--such a nice touch! One unique thing about this place is that they offer just one flavor of shaved ice each month, so there's always something new to try. This time, it was a fluffy, soft shave with house-made hibiscus chamoy that struck the perfect balance between tangy and mildly spicy. Paired with sweet, juicy mangoes, it was a refreshing treat that I can't recommend enough. 5/5 for sure! When it comes to the sandos, I have to say the walnut shrimp Sando really stood out. It was the star of the meal, even over the chicken katsu Sando. My family was pleasantly surprised by how filling these sandwiches were, with generous portions of protein. The house miso honey mustard deserves a special mention--it might just be one of the best condiments I've ever tasted, and it goes with everything! The Wagyu cheese fries were another hit. The waffle fries come with a side of wagyu cheese gravy that was rich and full of flavor. If you're feeling like smothered fries, just dunk your fries in the gravy and you won't be disappointed. This place really knows how to elevate comfort food. Hope to be back soon!

Chris R.

Yelp
Oh my Goodness! Scrumdiddilyumtious! What a yummy and wonderful treat! So glad I came into Katsu Sando! I ordered the honey walnut shrimp plate and it is absolutely delicious with all the sauces! The rice is cooked perfectly and the shrimp is amazing! I Definitely give this place five stars check it out

Joanna L.

Yelp
I was pretty skeptical at first but came to try Katsu Sando out of sheer curiosity! I came on a Wednesday evening around 6:30pm and there was only one parking spot left! The store was pretty much empty. I got the honey walnut sando and shared a curry waffle fries. The honey walnut shrimp sando is delicious! The bread is perfectly QQ and chewy. The shrimp patty is made with lots of shrimp and cooked very perfectly. The patty is deep fried and coated in a sweet mayo. There's also candied walnuts that give it a nice crunch, as well as a cabbage slaw. The waffle fries were average. Wait time took around 15-20 minutes despite us being the only people in the store. Service is pretty friendly but not very fast. There is one gender neutral restroom and it's pretty clean! The interior is very low-key and gives "diner"-vibes. I love that there's lots of drinks, dessert options in the plaza for afterward!

Samson A.

Yelp
Well, I've been wanting to try this type of egg salad sando because I've heard so much about them. Granted, I had to pull it out of the cooler, it tasted like a regular old egg salad sandwich w the ends cut off. I do not recommend it. On the other hand, I tried the pork sando, and it was very good-juicy and not dry at all. I also tried the loaded fries which is pretty good too. They also gave me the gravy w the cheese sauce and a spicy sauce which was ok. The gravy was kinda meh for me. I did without it. I wanted to add that the coleslaw was like ok, but it's what they put on the Sandos . It's not really worth the buying. As for the place, it's simply a dive-pretty simple place. It's a place you'd want to eat and go or take out. Lastly, I'm like, what is up with prices here? It was pretty pricey. I'm not too sure if I'd come back, but hey, I'd wanna try other things and do a reevaluation. Take care and maybe I'll see you there !

Joann V.

Yelp
2.8 stars Came in for an early dinner and got an Egg Sandwich ($6.95) and Waffle Fries w/ Curry Cheese sauce ($8.95). The egg sandwich is basic, but good...just regular ol' egg and mayo filling. The waffle fries and curry cheese sauce was pretty good. I never would have thought of curry and nacho cheese, but it's a combination that just makes sense! Service was quick and efficient. Ambiance is casual and nothing to write home about. Overall, I think it's a very average fast food spot that is not worth the pricepoint. I didn't try any of the katsu sandos, but those prices were in the double-digits. I might come back if someone drags me here, but I probably wouldn't come back on my own.

Christine T.

Yelp
We came here after seeing lot of good reviews and wanted to give it a try. We ordered a pork katsu plate which came with rice and cabbage salad and 2 piece chicken box with waffle fries. The pork katsu had strange smell as the meat was old so we couldn't finish the plate. The portion was just okay compared to another place. The chicken katsu was better as it's juicy and meaty while crunchy on the outside. However, some of the waffle fries stuck together and left uncooked as you can still see the batter in between them. Service was friendly.

Daikon R.

Yelp
I was out getting boba when i looked across the street and saw this place and thought "hm, why not? Let's try it!" And drove across to do just that. First of all, the parking lot is pretty small and for some reason theres a valet service? Not sure what that was about but I was lucky I went when it wasnt too crowded and secure a spot for myself. Walking in, the place is pretty spacious, pretty empty. It would be nice to see more decor around just to fill the emptiness. The worker at the register was really nice and friendly as I looked over the menu. I settled for the pork katsu sandwich. OH MAN was that the best katsu sandwich ive ever had... the pork slice was big and juicy and CRISPY. For the cost of that sandwich, it's well worth it. Standard for california honestly. The sauce in the sandwich along with their spicy sauce is so GOOD!! So satisfying, i'm still thinking about it. One critique though: I wish it came in a box rather than sitting at the bottom of the bag since I ordered it to go. Maybe it was to keep the food crispy? But the bag is pretty thin; if I didnt eat it close to getting it, I would be worried that the sauce would leak through the bag. Other than that, delicious place!!

Yvonne C.

Yelp
While browsing on UberEats, I found this little gem! I got the katsu curry plate (Menchi wagyu patty which cost $1 extra). Not sure if it's actually wagyu but it was tasty. The patty was juicy, a little pink on the inside and perfectly crispy. The portion is on the smaller side esp for the price. A bit pricey I'd say. Also got the egg salad sando which was sooooo good. I feel like you can order a few of these and leave it in the fridge to eat later. I'd def order from here again.

Meena N.

Yelp
I came by again to get their shrimp sando, but ended up getting a plate. I asked the guy at front, and I must have misheard him or something or wasn't paying attention, because all I heard was coleslaw, and I imagined it was like a combo plate of coleslaw, the sandwich and maybe fries? It's not, btw. It's the shrimp with rice and coleslaw. DO NOT GET THAT. Get the sandwich, trust me. I made that mistake. I got the pork katsu sandwich to go and ended up eating that later.

Caes F.

Yelp
Parking is a hit or miss. The Plaza has so many stores that parking can be tricky during peak lunch or dinner rush. Katsu Sando is a hybrid convenience store and fried katsu sandwich place. Ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp. $13.95. Pretty tasty. They fried the Shrimps into a patty and put some Walnuts, Katsu Sauce, Mayo, and cabbage together. I also got a Calpico to drink $3.95. Service took a little longer than usual due to outside bulk order. They do have Kakigori but today's flavor was Watermelon so I passed.

Miranda T.

Yelp
Katsu Sando is one of the newest additions to the 626! Although it's a bit bare in terms of decor, it's definitely a cute spot for a hangout with friends! The food is delicious as I got the Wagyu Curry Cheese Fries, and the sauce/seaweed on top is yummy!! Service is good as the person taking my order was polite, but heads up that they do get a bit busy, so you can order ahead! Overall, I would come to Katsu Sando again!

Kristy L.

Yelp
I've been to the katsu Sando over in china town and tried out their mushroom katsu which I thoroughly enjoyed. When this location opened, I came with my boyfriend and he got the chicken sando and I got the pork. The chicken sando was decent. I will say, everything is quite expensive. As for the pork, I don't think I'd ever get it again. It had a really bad taste like it wasn't thoroughly cleaned. It tasted gamey but also a little bit like iron. No amount of sauce or toppings could mask this terrible taste. Ducks also located in San Gabriel also serves up a killer pork katsu that never tastes off so when I had the pork from here, I didn't know it was possible for pork to taste that way. That being said, I would stay so far away from the pork. I told my mom about the taste and she said when she had tried the pork katsu from the china town location, she experienced the same thing. Maybe it's their cleaning protocol or maybe it's where their pork supply comes from but it's not it. This time around we got the Menchi which is essentially a beef patty. On the menu, the menchi curry was written as about $17 but upon seeing our receipt, we were charged a dollar or some more for "wagyu" which honestly I can't tell you if it was actually Wagyu or not. Regardless, we didn't ask for an upgrade to Wagyu if that was the case. I just feel like if the standard meat for the menchi was "Wagyu" include the extra $2 into the price advertised. Overall, I've given this place a couple of chances and it's just not worth it for me to make my way back. Their mushroom was good but not worth $12 and their chicken was only mediocre. They do sell drinks and little snacks here which is a plus I guess.

Motoko D.

Yelp
It reminded me of Japanese katsu sando. It is expensive but it is quite filling. I wish the bathroom was cleaner though.

Sally D.

Yelp
This wasn't the first time I ordered from this place but it sure would be my last. My wagyu curry was more like curry water. It did not have the consistency of curry at all. The coleslaw I received was missing half the ingrediants and the sandwich was cold and half raw. Ordered the honey walnut shrimp.

Josephine C.

Yelp
On a Tuesday at 5pm in February, I stopped by for katsu curry dinner plate. This place was on my list to try and I finally made it. The guy behind the counter was nice and friendly. I bought pork katsu curry plate and egg sandwich. Inside interior is nice and clean with few tables. To go drinks, egg sandwich, onigiri, snacks and merchandise. They put it in a nice cute plastic bag and package my food in a cute box. My pork katsu was juicy and crispy with rice and potato salad with separate container of curry. I got really full. Next time I would try the fries and the sandwiches.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Used a third party app to place an order for pickup since I wanted the sandwich to be ready when I got there. I ended up phoning in to follow up since these apps usually gives you a time range when the food is done and I didn't want my sandwich to be just sitting there. The staff that answered was friendly. Even gave me an exact time of when to pick up. When I got there, it was ready to go. I can still feel my sandwich was nice and hot, which meant they didn't make it ahead of time and just let it sit there, which I appreciated. I got the Honey Walnut Shrimp Sando. It's not really photogenic. But I can tell you it was delicious in my mouth. The quantity is huge. So if you're hungry, you won't be after you're done. They don't skimp on the fillings. Unfortunately, one slice of the bread was rather soggy since the dressing had absorbed into it. The filling wasn't overly sweet; right balance of sweet and salty. Quick Notes: -3rd party app pricing and in store pricing are the same -parking in this plaza is terrible -ambiance is not a sit down, tables are waited on; grab your food from counter and find a table yourself.

Yelp
There's not a lot of places that sell Japanese egg sandos in the area. It's located in the same plaza as Bonchon. [Food 3/5]: I only tried the famous Japanese egg sando. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. The bread was kind of dry and the egg was kind of lacking and didn't meet my expectations. [Ambiance 4/5]: The store reminded me of a small convenient store with a compact kitchen that serves fresh food. The egg sandos were already pre-made in the refrigerated section. I also noticed they sell a lot of Japanese drinks and snacks. If you wish to dine in, there are a few seats available indoors. Not sure how long they've been there, but overall the store looked clean and modern. The egg sando was a good try, but I've had better.

Yelp
Finally got to try Katsu Sando on a recent Sunday's lunch.  We shared: Egg salad sandwich - nice little snack while waiting for the main course. You just grab this from the open fridge. Although I think it should really be at most $5 for what you get. Honey Walnut shrimp Sando - this was really delicious and juicy! Although a bit messy! Chicken Katsu - This was dried.  They had a free curry dip promo with a purchase over $20 and it was definitely needed. Waygu Curry Chizu Waffle Chizu Fries - waffle fries that comes with a cheesy curry sauce. I'm not sure which part of the sauce or fries has Waygu? Small Kakigori mango shave ice - this was the best item actually out of everything ! It has fresh mangos and pandan tapioca.  So refreshing on a hot summer day! Overall I wish the chicken would be moist and the bread would be better toasted,  the highlight was definitely the mango shave ice. I do appreciate they have a self serve water station.

Yelp
PRO-TIP: There's a couple days left, but you can still do a Yelp check-in for a side of curry dip with a $20 purchase as part of the month-long "Travel Like an SGV Local" series of events, experiences, and goodies. I've been meaning to try Katsu Sando for awhile now, especially seeing the hype around it and the fact that I keep passing by each time I stop to shop at Paper Cola. I think this same brand is having a Uniqlo shirt collaboration upcoming as well? Needless to say, finally got the opportunity to do so! They have a pretty simple, straightforward menu, as well as a small refrigerated area for some of their prepared food like onigiri, their fruit and potato/egg salad sandwiches, and canned/bottled drinks. For summer, they have a mango kakigori shaved ice as well. In the back there's also a small merchandise shop with shirts and other goods of their brand, as well as snacks like chips. Service was helpful and patient especially with the line building up. Very casual eatery with most people doing pick up orders and an okay amount of seating inside. Plaza does get fisted with traffic so the method is to either park at the free lot like a block or so down or park at Blossom Market and walk over. On top of the Yelp check-in offer, we also got the: 1) Egg Salad Sandwich: -This was a prepared sandwich you can get from the front. -Not too sour and mayonnaise tasting. Solid tasty egg salad, just wish the bread was a tad less dry. 2) Pork Katsu Sando: -It comes pre-sliced in 2 huge portions. Very shareable or perfect if you want to save half of a sandwich for later! -The katsu is not too dry and decently meaty and moist on the inside. -I feel like the bread would have been a bit dry too but the slaw, bit of curry, the sauce, and the dips we had compensated for that with flying colors. -Pretty solid katsu sandwich. 3) Wagyu Curry Cheese Fries: -I am guess the wagyu is boiled into the cheese that they make as a dip/for you to drizzle on later? That or maybe the fries themselves were fried with or prepared with wagyu in some way since it's not like a carne asada style fries with pieces of meat with it. -Regardless, nicely crispy on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside waffle fries. Great junky snack to go with the curry and cheese dips we got. -We also got a sweet Tabasco style sauce too, not bad but we preferred the richness of the dips. I'd like to stop by and try one of their curry plates and potentially their new seasonal items or something unique like their walnut shrimp sando.

Yelp
I've heard about the rave for chicken katsu sandos and found the closest shop within my location. I ordered a chicken sando which took about 10 minutes to get to me. The chicken sando was delicious. I loved the crunchiness and crispiness of the chicken katsu patty which retained its crunchy texture even when slathered in sauce and slaw. I loved the slight sweetness from the sauce too. I'm not a fan of having toast as buns but in this case, it was perfect for the sando. My only dislike was that there wasnt enough slaw to match the size of the chicken katsu patty. Overall, the chicken sando was better than what I was expecting. I'm more used to trying out the american hot chicken sandwiches so I was unsure what to expect coming in. I will eventually come back to try something else on the menu

Yelp
Nice place to get a Katsu Sandwich, or as a plate but I'd recommend Kazumori for Katsu plates. Prepare to wait a little as everything hot is made fresh. The hidden gem is the shave ice--they really do import the ice block from Japan, where it's made to certain standards. Crazy clean ice--you should watch them make it. For up to a few people, a small should work.

Yelp
Heard about this place a long time so finally tried the Pork Sando as take out. The size and flavor are pretty good. Meat is quite tender...but at $15+, I expected more...

Yelp
In the past 2 years, Japanese style sandwiches made fresh have become somewhat trendy in the LA area. I've seen quite a few locations, from Katsu Sando to Pillow Talk in Pasadena. I knew Katsu Sando had opened a branch in San Gabriel, and eventually I decided to give this place a try. Compared to Japanese sandwiches in Japanese convenience stores, these sando restaurants tend to be slightly pricier, which was why I held off for the longest time. However, given this restaurant also has unique things like curry waffle fries, I decided to give it a try. Katsu Sando is a fairly small establishment, with a few tables and seats. Ordering is done at the counter, no waiters. The staff are nonetheless very nice and attentive. We ended up sharing a menchi katsu sando and curry cheese waffle fries. Menchi katsu sandos are everywhere, but I'd never had curry cheese fries before. The waffle fries were fresh, and went super well with curry and cheese. It's an excellent combination, especially for someone like me who loves chili cheese fries. The menchi katsu sando came with an optional spicy sauce on the side. The beef was super juicy and tasty, and the bread was crispy. The spicy sauce definitely added some accent to everything. It was an amazing experience, and definitely I will come back again.

Yelp
I was so excited when I heard Katsu Sando opened up in SGV! I haven't been to their Chinatown location but I always heard great things about their sandwiches so I had to try Katsu Sando right away. Oh also, parking in that plaza is kind of a battle, so we chose to park elsewhere and walk over! I was pleasantly surprised when I first walked in because of the deli-like decor and how open and inviting it is. Love their logo and the colors! They sell quick to-go options like egg sando and onigiris, they even have chips and other snacks! Menu is pretty straight forward with a lot of options. Aside from sandwiches they also have curry plates, yum :) There's tables and seating, but by the time we got there (11:30 am ish on a Saturday) it was already full. You would order at the front, and kinda wait on the sides wherever there's space for them to call your name. Sandwiches roughly take 15-20 mins to make so there was quite a bit of people waiting too. I have tried (on 2 separate occassions) the pork katsu, honey walnut shrimp katsu, and the snow crab korokke roll. Also have tried the curry cheese fries. Pork katsu is so crispy and delicious. You cannot go wrong here, especially when pairing with the curry sauce from the curry cheese fries! My favorite is the honey walnut shrimp katsu because of the sweet and savory combo. I love the candied walnuts for added crunch. I recently tried the snow crab korokke roll which is 3 crab croquettes in a bread roll. Delicious :o Aesthetically pleasing also, like art in a sandwich box!! Definitely pricier but, hey, every now and then you should treat yo self. Definitely want to try the chicken and mushroom options next time!

Yelp
My wife insisted we try a new place instead of going to Bonchon and at first I was very hesitant because I wasn't too sure how this place was going to be but it was okay. I should've got what my wife got though because i got the Katsu Sando but it was a little dry. The fries were really crips and good and omg they give you so much. Would I come back? Probably not, especially if Bonchon is literally right next door. Service wasn't too welcoming either. It was a little off-putting.

Yelp
Second time visiting the SGV location, but last time we only came for kakigori shaved ice. This time we had dinner first! Go in with patience because even though it looks empty inside, they were getting tons of phone and online orders all night - the food took about 15 minutes to prepare. I enjoyed the menchi sando, flavorful and juicy patty, you can try it with their spicy sauce or the tonkatsu sauce...or shoot, both! My husband got the menchi curry plate so I was able to enjoy a few sando dips with their rich and smooth curry sauce. The kiddo enjoyed her tonkatsu plate - any kind of pork chop is her go to but she said there was too much cabbage - oh kids! The main protein is already cut up for you which makes it easy to eat there at the restaurant or if you take it to a picnic, but I would worry it gets cold quickly if you take it to go. We were lucky to grab the last two servings of corn potage...the sweet corn flavor they got into this soup is impressive! It's so smooth and creamy!!! Inside is clean and small cafeteria like looking, not very cozy though I see they are trying by adding some Christmas decor. Sam brings the warmth though, my daughter had lots of ideas for new flavors for the super soft shaved ice and Sam patiently listened and laughed with her. It was sweet. We will definitely go again.

Yelp
So happy that this location is open! I love Katsu Sando and have been going to their OG location in Chinatown but now that this SGV location is open I will be coming back here since it's a lot closer and parking is much easier to find. The inside of their space is SO cute and spacious for customers to be able to enjoy their food right away. Service was nice at this location. My friend and I were greeted right away. Once we were ready to order we made our way to the cashier and placed our orders. We got the fruit sando and egg salad sando from the ready-to-go case; wagyu curry chizu waffle fries; honey walnut shrimp, menchi and chicken sandos; and used the check-in offer to get a free curry dip. Our food was so good when we brought it home to eat. My honey walnut shrimp sando was delicious and had just the right amount of sweet, crunchy, and slaw. Their curry dip with the cheese is also yummy. I've never had or even thought to add cheese to curry but it's really good and goes so nicely with the waffle fries. Overall great place to grab lunch! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The food was a complete 10/10. Honey walnut shrimp sando is a must have. The crispy chicken tendos with fries were so hot and fresh. The choices for sauce--all made in house--I would rate the yuzu kosho ranch 10/10 with the fries and tendos. The miso honey mustard and the OMG sauce you can use for the sandwich, but the sandwich on its own is already a 10/10. We tried the yuzu soda as well, it was very complimentary to the meal. And for dessert, we had the fruit sando, and I don't know how they make it so good. The bread is perfectly pillowy-soft and the whipped cream goes so well with the sweet fruits in the middle. It's hard to find a really good non-full service fast food restaurants nowadays but I assure you this is a 10/10 but everything was so good that I thoroughly enjoyed even the hospitality of the cashier (Kaylie) and the chefs (Sam and Ken). The ambiance is like eye candy. Everything is pleasingly aesthetic to look at. They keep it clean and organized.

Yelp
I ordered the pork katsu sando and waffle fries recently and while the waffle fries were crisp and seasoned nicely, I really wasn't impressed by the pork katsu sando. I loved that the bread was toasted and everything was freshly made, but there wasn't a lot flavor. The pickled(?) cabbage was not the best and kind of overpowered the rest of the sandwich. I would've enjoyed it more if it was more representative of a katsu dish, with more thinly sliced cabbage and perhaps plain or even sesame dressing. At the minimum, perhaps the pork cutlet itself needs more dressing or seasoning. The service was pretty great but I'm not sure I'll be back.

Yelp
I ALWAYS love coming here!!! The service and food never fails! I think their egg sandwich will always be my go to but this time I decided to also try the potato salad sandwich. MINDBLOWN! It was equally amazing! Another favorite is their curry fries. Forgot to take a picture before it was gobbled up. The curry isn't overly salty and pairs perfectly with the fries. I love cheese so it being in the curry is perfect. It's a small parking area so I recommend to park on the nearby streets, if you are coming during peak hours. The restaurant is also small with only a few tables.

Yelp
Tasty, yet pricey is how I would describe it. I was overwhelmed with excitement after finding it in the refrigerated section. I think I was expecting it to be made fresh in the back but since I was there and still a little hungry I bought it. Maybe next time I'll come back and try their curry. This sandwich was about $7 and I guess because of inflation that's how it is. The place was clean with no business except mine. The clerk answered my question and I paid and walked out. The egg salad sandwich filled my tummy for now. The white bread was soft with no edges and the filling was mainly egg whites and yolk with probably mayonnaise and seasoning.
